Vors grunts hard when the arrow hits. Been too long since one of those hit me, he thinks, before closing on the archer to try and take her out of the fight. Seeing her nimble dodge of his earlier strikes, he holds back some of the weight of his swing in favor of better accuracy...

Pebbles' blow strikes home, drawing blood and a grunt from the orc chieftain. Perrin's web spell catches several of the orcs off guard, tying them up in it for the time being. Cyrus' attempt to bull rush one of the restrained orcs found the bulky, broad-shouldered humanoid extremely difficult to move and costing him a sharp blow, despite Rally's best efforts to distract the orc.

Hirda, however, seized the opening created by Cyrus and Rally, charging the orc and striking him a solid blow with her glaive. Vors' blade found home similarly, crunching through the light armor of his attacker. Titania rushed to engage the orc chieftain, failing to land a blow but forcing him to give her his full attention.

Dead

The chieftain's side continues to bleed from Pebbles' blow but he turns on Titania, drawing a greataxe from his back which he swings at her.

The orc nearest Pebbles attempts to force his way through the webbing and strike Pebbles with his greataxe.

Pushing past the magical strands, he strikes at Pebbles with a great bellow, but not before Pebbles' longspear strikes home.

Pebbles' damage: 1d6 + 4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 3 + 3 = 15

Pebbles' blow momentarily stops the berserker as the longspear punches through the orc's torso but the greataxe continues to swing.

The two-handed blow cleaves through Pebbles' armor creates a gap in the elementals torso, felling him. A triumphant look gleams in the orc's eye while he gasps desperately for breath.

The berserker near Cyrus attempts to free himself from the webbing,

Cyrus emitted an inarticulate shriek as the second orc smashes a greataxe across his chest. Severely wounded, he backs slightly away but continues to stand and fight.

Cyrus takes a five-foot step to I11 and attempts to smack Orc Brute 2 with his mace.

Cyrus' attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Cyrus' damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Cyrus lines up a heavy swing, but at the last moment his leg -- still wounded from the fight with the first beastie -- falters beneath him, and the blow swings wide.

Rally, clearly terrified, hesitates a moment.

An INT check for Rally to do something clever: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

Overcome by fear, Rally shifts anxiously back and forth between her two front paws, on the edge of flight but unwilling to abandon Cyrus.

As the orc's axe slams Pebbles into the ground, Perrin starts forward in horror, pulling a flask from his pocket. He comes to a stop just in front of the orc berserker, standing over the motionless body of his loyal elemental. No longer demonic or otherworldly, the cry he gives now is one hundred percent Perrin. "No!" A look of grim determination settles on his face, and a blast of flame springs from his hands, consuming the flask and rushing toward the oncoming orcs.

Moving to H9 and casting burning hands with a flask of alchemist's fire as an alchemical power component, pointing directly east so that it covers squares I9 and J-K 8-10. He is making a concentration check to cast defensively, and using his Volatile Conduit trait to add an extra 1d4 damage.

Just going to move things along since we're only waiting on one, relatively straight-forward action.

Cyrus falls heavily to the ground with the orc's blow as the web continues burning near him and singes the grasses of the forest floor, threatening to set them on fire. The orc warleader also takes damage from the expanding fire of the web.

The orc's blow almost bisected the unfortunate Cyrus. His mace fell from nerveless fingers, and as he toppled forward the orc's jaws finished the job.

The first blow took me to -11. Once unconscious, I lost my dodge and DEX bonuses to AC, dropping my AC to 14, which is what the brute rolled. My CON is 12, and I am now at -18 and officially dead.

Rally gave a sharp cry of grief as Cyrus fell in red ruin.

GM, Rally is now yours to run. The rules don't really specify what happens to a familiar after their master dies; I've always assumed that they retain their familiar abilities for 24 hours afterwards, then revert to a typical animal of their kind over course the day following that. But pretty clearly, if Cyrus isn't around to give her instructions, then she should be treated as an NPC.

As weeds lash at his feet and his friends begin to fall, Perrin scrambles back from the growing inferno in grim silence. His head rolls back, his eyes flash, and that dark power comes over him once more.

"Cyrus, no!" Vors yells. He sees his own life flashing before his eyes as the warleader slices into Titania, but does his best to slide into position and ready a strike against the warleader.

"Titania, get on the other side of him and help me keep him off his guard!"

Waiting for Titania to take a 5' step and flank the warleader with me, then Vors will attack. If Titania doesn't make that move, he'll just attack.

The dice have seriously decided to hate the party this combat. Cyrus didn't roll anything above a 6 the whole time. Bleargh.

Small Earth Elemental Improved Familiar 6

Well... maybe we've got one more chance!
The healing from Perrin's channel makes Pebbles stable at -1 hp, and the variant channeling allows him to ignore the unconscious condition until the end of Perrin's next turn.

As the doctor's magic washes over him, the elemental on the ground begins to stir, then slowly pushes himself to his feet. He makes his loudest rumble yet, lashing out at the warleader with supernatural strength.
Standing up as a move action, activating his fury of the abyss domain ability as a swift action, and Power Attacking the warleader.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 + 2 - 1 = 23 +2 if Titania's flanking
Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 15

With that, Pebbles seems to fall backward, swallowed up by the ground itself. Taking a 5-foot step downward into the earth (and out of the difficult terrain), moving down and to the southwest into the ground below G10.

Brookside Campaign Journal

Pebbles is still disabled by negative hit points, though he is temporarily ignoring his unconsciousness, so he can take a single move action or a single standard action. If he attacks while prone, he takes a -4 penalty but that attack will still hit. He does, however, lose 1 hit point from taking a strenuous action while disabled and resume dying.

Cyrus will be sorely missed. I will resolve Rally's actions.

The orc warleader drops from Pebbles' heroic attack, but so does Pebbles.
