Perrin Alders |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
"Hold on." Perrin raises a hand in a "stop" motion, freezing in place and focusing intently. "Hear that? Some sort of voices, just beyond those hills."
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
"And look! Loads of tracks pass right through this gap. This... this could be it!"
Perrin looks around in panic for a moment, then takes a quick breath. He makes eye contact with Pebbles and jerks his head toward the hills. Seeming to understand, the elemental dives smoothly into the ground beneath him and disappears, leaving not a ripple to track his movement.
Pebbles is using earth glide to pass beneath the ground, then moving forward to square J9. His tremorsense ability allows him to pinpoint the location of anyone within 60 feet that is in contact with the ground.
Pebbles Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Vors Falchen |

Vors holds while Perrin takes care of reconnaissance, but makes sure his trusty halberd at the ready. He whispers, "Can't say I like being the one to walk between hills. Always tried to be on top of them, if I could. Anyone feel like sneaking up that rise over there?" Vors points to the hill on the north side of the pass.
(Staying put, trying to send someone to I7 or J7)

Cyrus Lem |

Cyrus gets out his mace.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Aye, I hear it," he said quietly to the others. "Sommat speakin' some foreign gabble up ahead."
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
"Could be lots of 'em, or else a few but they pass in an' out a lot," he said. "See all them tracks goin' all over and back."
Glancing at Perrin, he adds "Is your, err, pile of rocks gone to find out what's there? Good idea. I'll send Rally to peek over th' other way."
Rally is going to move cautiously to J11 and see what can be seen over the tops of those hills, then return to Cyrus and report. I doubt she can give much detail, but she can probably do presence/absence of creatures, general size of creatures, carrying weapons or not, that sort of thing.
Rally Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
@#$#. Natural 1. Hopefully anyone on the other side of those hills will think nothing of seeing a fox in the woods.

Brookside GM |

Brookside GM |

Pebbles earth glides back towards the group and emerges next to Perrin. He utters some odd grunting noises to Perrin.
L7, and Q3. You can share this information generally with the rest of the party but Perrin would have to draw some sort of map if you want to tell the party exactly what squares you mean.

Brookside GM |

The fox slinks back into your midst, her bright eyes darting nervously back towards the narrow pass to the east.

Perrin Alders |

"Perrin, what'd your creature there say they were?"
"He couldn't tell, he just felt their movements in the ground."
Perrin looks back at the pass nervously as Rally rejoins the group. "I think I know a spell that could make some webbing to trap them in... but do you reckon we should try to lure them here, or sneak up there and attack from above?"

Cyrus Lem |

Cyrus reported: "Rally says she saw a whole encampment in there, on the north end. Three tents, big ones, up on the side where Perrin's rock ... err ... friend went. There's a tree with chains on it past them; could be mebbe that beastie we fought earlier was tied up there."
Listening further, he added "There's a really big guy with green skin and a longbow down south-ways. He saw Rally, but there was some kind of argument going on up on the north side, so she pulled away before he could do anythin'."
Cyrus rubbed a hand along one shoulder, feeling a sudden chill. "Your rock-friend found 8, Rally saw 1 more. Sounds t' me like there's a whole heap of trouble on the far side of those hills. We got 5 of us, plus Perrin's rock-friend, and Rally. I dunno about Perrin's friend, but Rally probably can't do much in a real fight. Maybe distract one, at best. She's great for trackin' and lookin' ahead, but ..." he shook his head.
"If we just charge in willy-nilly, I figure we are like to die. We got to get the drop on 'em, or else back off and try t' lure 'em out so we can fight 'em one at a time, or at least in smaller bunches. And we need to pick fast before they quit their arguin' and find us."

Cyrus Lem |

"Sounds good to me -- maybe we could circle down south, make some noise or somethin' to lure him into the trees. The trick is gettin' him far enough away that he can't just shout for help. He sounds big; I doubt we can take him down before he could holler to his buddies."
Cyrus has Ghost Sound prepped, which could be used to lure one into an ambush. The hard part is not getting all the others at the same time!

Hirda of Kirin |

Ugh, sounds like orcs. I was hopin' never t' see another of 'em. Well, I'll foller you-all south t' take out the scout. Might be an idear t' send Sir Fox n' Sir Rocks here up t' the north side o' their camp. If the main group 'ears us n' starts movin' our way, they can make some noise on t'other side, mebbe buy us some time.

Brookside GM |

Each square on the map represents 5 feet. Perrin has some information on their positions.
It is difficult to tell because the yelling voice is on the other side of the line of hills.

Perrin Alders |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Pebbles Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
"Yeah, it sounds like that yelling has moved closer to the spot where Rally was looking." The living pile of rocks makes a soft rumbling sound, and Perrin shoots it a quick glance of alarm. "Pebbles says very close. Like, ten feet. Do you think more of them could be over there now?" Perrin looks concerned, but prepares to follow the rest of the group as they head to the south.

Brookside GM |

The shouting dies down for a few minutes. Then you hear a sharp cracking sound and a cry of pain. The cracking sound repeats and as does the accompanying cry. The paired sounds continue with gut-wrenching rhythm.

Perrin Alders |

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
A look of horror crosses over Perrin's face. "It sounds like someone's getting whipped! That... that scared-sounding person from earlier." Perrin takes a couple small steps from side to side, wringing his hands in uncertainty. "Shouldn't we do something?? It kind of really feels like we should do something."

Cyrus Lem |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Well, crap," Cyrus said. "Could be Goodman Higgins. No time to be fancy, then."
"Doc, we'll try your spider web thing. I'm gonna run in there and get their attention, try to lure 'em back through the gap. When they come after me, web as many as you can get without hitting the rest of us. Hirda, Vors, be ready to stand and fight."
Glancing up at the sky, he finished with "I really hope somebody up there decides to like us today!" And with that blunt but heart-felt prayer, he turned and charged through the gap.
Cyrus double-moves 40 feet due east to L9. GM, if I can snatch up a rock on the way to wing at one of them next round that'd be great, otherwise I'll have to content myself with hollering insults at the top of my lungs. Gee, I hope there aren't any traps along the way. That would be bad.

Perrin Alders |

As Cyrus dashes forward, Perrin rests a hand on what passes for Pebble's shoulder, giving a low hiss in his demonic tongue. The rocky creature then dives beneath the earth once more. Casting bull's strength on Pebbles, who then glides underground and returns to J9.

Brookside GM |

They seem to have heard you dashing towards them but are relatively surprised at the abrupt appearance of a human.
None of them readied an action to attack you. Speaking/yelling is a free action that can be taken at any time. Also, you have successfully snatched up a fist-sized rock.
Brooksiders' Initiative:1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Unknown's Initiative:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Hirda of Kirin |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Aye, we'll all stand t'gether. See how these beasties fight when they's not overpowerin' lone folk in the dark. Now Cyrus, don't be too obvious aboot leadin' 'em inta a trap.
Hirda takes a few practice swings with her pole-arm.

Brookside GM |

Anyone who wishes to may take or ready their actions now or delay their turn. Brooksiders won the initiative.

Cyrus Lem |

untrained Knowledge (Local): 1d20 ⇒ 2
Well, at least it ain't Goodman Higgins bein' whipped, Cyrus thought. Wonder what the heck those are.
Throwing a rock suddenly seemed like a bad idea. Made him seem less like prey. "Whoops!" he said to the green-skinnned folk. "Err ... bye!"
And with that, he turned and fled back the way he came.
Cyrus moves 20 feet back to I10 and readies an action to smack his first pursuer with his mace.

Brookside GM |

The rest of you observe Cyrus run through the gap in the hills then immediately head back towards you. Some surprised cries come from the other side of the hills but you have a moment to act before they gather themselves.

Brookside GM |

Since readied actions happen before the actions that triggered them, would we still act on the normal Brooksiders initiative count next turn? If so, Pebbles will ready an action to stab the first enemy to pass within his reach. Perrin will delay.
Yep. That works.

Ezren the Lesser |

A lithe, female humanoid moves into G6, triggering Vors readied action.
Vors, I'm assuming your readied attacks and AoOs are power attacks. Correct me if you'd like me to use a different assumption in the future.
Readied power attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Vors' halberd deflects off her armor.
She whips up the bow she had in her hands and nocks an arrow, letting it fly at Vors but leaving him an opportunity to strike again as she readies her bow.
Power attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Damage: 1d10 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
This time, she sees Vors' halberd coming as it swings back and she nimbly dodges it while letting her arrow fly.
Arrow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Arrow damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Hamin Jezar |

A second orc, the one noticed by Rally, moves into K8 to fire at the retreating Cyrus. Pebbles erupts from the ground and swings at her twice.
Readied action and attack of opportunity for making a ranged attack while threatened.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 = 23
Damage 1: 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Pebbles' longspear catches in the orcs side, leaving her bleeding.
Attack 2: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15
Damage 2: 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 2 = 7
Pebbles' next attack is deflected by her armor while she brings her bow to bear on him.
Arrow attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Her arrow manages to pierce Pebbles' armor and thick hide.

Strange Old Lady |

Screaming at the top of his lungs, a bulky male orc charges south into the gap, chasing Cyrus. His face is so contorted in a mask of rage it is impossible to tell if he is surprised at the sight of Pebbles but he immediately swings his greataxe at the small elemental, while Cyrus swings his readied mace at the charging marauder.
Cyrus' mace attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14 smashes into the orcs chest but doesn't stop him.
Mace damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Orc double moves into position in J9.

Brookside GM |

Brooksider's turns again. Perrin, Titania, Hirda, and Rally may take a free move action to finish up their round 1 action economy. Then everyone go ahead and take your round 2 actions..

Pebbles the Earth Elemental |

Pebbles grunts in pain as the arrow sinks into his earthy hide, swiveling to thrust his spear at the bellowing orc on the hill and sliding backward along the ground.
Power Attacking the orc warleader in I7, then taking a 5-foot step into H9.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 3 + 3 = 13
Bleed Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Perrin Alders |

Rushing forward to face the sudden onslaught, Perrin gives his loudest bellow yet and flings his arm out toward the approaching mob. In the same instant, a grotesque web of clinging fibers bursts from the ground in their midst, spreading outwards and enveloping everything in its path.
Moving to F10 and casting web, centered on the corner between L7 and M8 and anchored to the hills on the west and the trees on the east. So it should cover I 7-8, J-K 5-10, L-M 4-11, N-O 5-10, and P 7-8. All creatures in these squares must make a DC 15 Reflex save or gain the grappled condition. Additionally, the squares become difficult terrain and provide cover, and anyone who moves through them risks becoming grappled as well.

Cyrus Lem |

Rally tucks her tail firmly between her legs -- but rushes in anyway, wanting to be closer to Cyrus.
Rally uses her move action from Round 1 to move to I 11.
Arriving at Cyrus' side, she yaps her head off to distract the brutes.
Round 2 standard action: She's going to use Aid Another to give Cyrus a +2 AC bonus against Orc Brute 1's next attack.
Rally's attack roll vs AC 10: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Then she slinks back a bit.
5-foot step to H12, and that's the end of Rally's round 2.
Cyrus feels a rush of gratitude towards Rally for risking herself on his behalf. Shifting to one side, he attempts to shove the brute backwards into its ally.
Cyrus takes a 5-foot step to J11 and attempts to bull rush Orc Brute 1 north towards J9. This provokes an AoO from Orc Brute 1; the +2 bonus from Rally's aid another would apply to this attack, I believe. I'm applying a +1 bonus on the CMB check for higher ground; GM, if that doesn't apply, please just treat the result as 1 lower. It's a little hard to tell exactly where that does and doesn't apply with portions of the map obscured by the tokens.
Cyrus' bull rush attempt vs Orc Brute 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Heck, I forgot to put in that +1 bonus I just finished typing about. So that's actually an 11. I rather doubt that succeeds, but just in case it does, here's a second bull rush against Orc Brute 2 at a -4 penalty because he's in a straight line with #1.
Cyrus' bull rush attempt vs Orc Brute 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Dangit, I forgot the modifier AGAIN. That second one is +1 for higher ground, -4 because it's the second one in line, so effectively the result is 10.
Well, crap, Cyrus thought as he shoved ineffectually at the massive green fellow. I thought that'd be real clever, but these guys are built like a brick outhouse.

Brookside GM |

No problem Cyrus. You're interpretation was correct but I'll keep an eye on things. No big deal if I have to correct a calculation because my map is getting a little cluttered. To help some, I put the numbers of some of the enemies on the their tiles. Also, I put a gray w for those who are currently grappled by the web.
Pebbles' attack draws a pained grunt from the orc warleader but the chieftain is much more surprised by the appearance of webbing all around him.
Reflex saves:
Orc warleader: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Orc berserker 1: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Orc berserker 2: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Orc berserker 3: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Orc berserker 4: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Orc scout 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Orc shaman: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Orc 2's attack of opportunity on Cyrus: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 - 2 = 26
Orc 2's greataxe damage: 1d12 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

Hirda of Kirin |

Charge to H10, attacking Orc #2 with glaive. +2 to her attack, -2 to her AC next round.
Aaaarrrr!!! Hirda lets out an inarticulate bellow and bounds awkwardly towards the nearest orc, bringing her bladed pole down on its shoulders.
Glaive: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 2 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Whaddaya done wit me Nolly, ya big green galoot? Time fer ya t' pay up!
