The Age of Worms is an age of darkness and despair heard of only in ancient prophecies. The herald of the Age of Worms is said to be the undead deity Kyuss, who will call forth an undead apocalypse on the world. It is upon you!

Hi all! I am a veteran of RL rpgs and my favorite is the classic AP - Age of Worms. I have run this game with a number of parties (i.e. it is quite deadly!). I want to try it out here in PbP, skipping to the good parts, starting at 12th level. I am looking for 5 brave characters!

Character creation:
12th level
No evil
HPs: Max + 1/2+1 per level
No traits, unless you take feat
108,000 wealth level
No summoners or gunslingers
Races: all welcome, but preferential treatment to more common ones

Application:
Be a team player (as I said, AP is quite deadly!)
Physical description
Mannerisms, tics, personality...what makes you unique?
Personal achievements - why and how did you get into adventuring? How are you 12th level? What are your goals?
Do you prefer Greyhawk World (original setting) or Golarion?

I will leave recruitment open until the 30th. If I get a great share of applicants, I reserve the right to cut the recruitment short.

Any questions, let me know. Cheers!

What is the stat generation method?

I knew I forgot something! 20 point buy.

How much of the adventure is being skipped? Like estimated percentage?
Also, I do like stories, so any chance we can get a synopsis, either before or after the game starts as to what happened so far?

DG:
1. The AP takes you from 1-20, so you do the math. :)
2. I have a cool intro in mind to get the players into the heart of the action as heroes and to the attention of the major NPCs in the game.

Um, talk about awesome sauce!

I'm all over this!

Less work for you if we keep the setting in Greyhawk, but Golarion's the default for Pathfinder, so I'm ok either way.

Name: Thak Val Zsing
Race: Male Dwarf
Class: Cleric (Theologian) of Haborym
Alignment: LN
Backstory: Following clan tradition, Thak was given at a young age to the Drouthsin, an order of jailers sworn to protect the most dangerous prisoners Sky Citadel Janderhoff had to offer. Among the Drouthsin worship of Haborym was encouraged, the order admiring the devil's absolute dedication to protecting what cannot be allowed to escape in the face of all greed, laziness and mercy. Thak grew to become an elite member of the order, cutting his teeth as a guard on prisoner transfers through some of Golarions' most dangerous places. Under his watch a jailbreak lead to the escape of a prisoner, a powerful servant of Kyuss, who went on to aid the coming Age of Worms. Feeling powerful guilt for seeing the servant escape, Thak has left the order and joined the crusade against Kyuss' minions.
Personality: Agoraphobic even for a dwarf, zero humor recognition ability, strongly lawful and loyal, older, curmudgeonly. Thak seeks to return his escaped prisoners as well as others who belong there, and rebuild his order; many were killed in the jailbreak. Works well with a team after some adjustment.
Description: Bald older male dwarf with no beard or eyebrows, pale, plain grey cloak atop chainmail with the embroidered quest of Citadel Janderhoff, small chain of red stone meditation beads always around left wrist, small plain dagger at waist, heavy brown rucksack over back
Sheet

I confess I've never played in Greyhawk.

interesting. see what i can do

Thank you for the interest. Look forward to reading your characters.

!!!!!!!!!GREYHAWK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Name: Kaydanna
Race: Half Elf (or human still kicking it around)
Class: Warpriest of Mayaheine (or a LG one in Golorian if it changes)
Alignment: LG
Backstory: Orphaned at an early age, Kaydanna was taken in by a sisterly covenant of Pelor and was raised to be a cleric. Kaydanna wanted to be a holy warrior but the Abbes also scolded her when she was caught rough housing with the local town boys, and usually winning. Kaydanna was eventually mentored by a battle cleric of Mayaheine spending time healing. She eventually left to be that Lady's female squire and eventually earned the right to be a battle maiden for Mayaheine. During one adventure the Lady fell and became an undead. Kaydanna was forced to put her down after slaying the evil priest of Nerull. Kaydanna adventured on her own and with others for many years until she found herself at her present location. She is especially angered by slavery, abuse of innocents, undead and evil outsiders.
Personality: Kaydanna is not one for trickery. She would like to be a paladin but her rough manners did not incline her to that profession. She is blunt and quick to anger. If she knows they are evil, then why toy with them, just kill them is her standard philosophy. She is tolerant of other faiths, especially Pelors and Heironius' but is intolerant of evil cults.
Description: Kaydanna is tall for a female and broad shouldered with blonde hair. She has weapons fastened to her belt and wears plate mail and carries a shield.

I've never played at such a high level, in fact I've only been playing pathfinder for just over a year. Would you still consider my application? If you look at my profile, you will see that I have several PBP adventures going, including GMing two, and one of them has been going for over 6 months.

I don't know enough about Eberon to have an opinion on this question. Part of me thinks it would be more true to the intentions of the adventure to keep it where it was written for, but Golarion is what I'm familiar with.

I think I would make a halfling unchained rogue. She would be built for traps and for sneak attack damage.

As others I'm wondering what setting this is for. I too would prefer Golarion, but understand it if you want to go with the original.

Either way I'm probably interested, though I need to figure out what I want to play, though probably some kind of arcane caster, wizard, sorcerer or arcanist? I'm thinking either a undead bloodline sorcerer focusing either on enchantments or illusions, a wizard focusing on summoning (with the Acadamae Graduate feat) or someone focusing on evocation spells (with heavy use of dazing spell). Would you allow me to use Ring of Relevation by just UMD for the sorcerer (with awesome display from Heaven's Mystery)?

Is there any restriction on sources?

I think Redelia mistyped - Eberron is not a consideration. It is between the original Greyhawk setting or the current Golarion of PF. I am still debating it.

Redelia - all applications are welcome. You will get fair consideration.

Oyzar - Ring does not work for non-oracles. PF sources only; no third party.

The Axadamae Graduate feat is from Curse of the Chrimson Throne which was originally made in 3.5, but by Paizo. Does that mean it's not allowed? Do you have any preference between the 3 ideas I described above? I could see going with either of them. One thing I'm considering for the evoker idea is the arcane trickster prestige class. I don't suppose you would let a spell book user still get spells known?

One huge advantage to playing Golarion is that there is a lot of things based on deities from there etc, for example Divine Obedience. Another thing I'm considering is the Evangelist PrC, but that would only work in Golarion or if we use that pantheon.

If my casterlevel is lower than my character level, would you allow magical knack to stack with for example Mage's Tattoo to bring caster level to character level+1? If I make an Orc Bloodline Sorcerer with the Arcane Trickster PrC, would I get the +1 to damage on the sneak attack dices as well?

CoT is a paizo source, so that feat is fine.
I would allow them to stack, as long as they do not exceed your HD.
No, to the sneak attack damage.

I obviously wasn't clear enough in my question. They pretty clearly stack if they bring CL up to HD, but it's unclear if they do if it would bring CL above HD (it depends on the order you apply them in), so that is what I was wondering about. I wasn't planning to lose more than 2 CL anyway, so magical knack would have been enough by itself. With them not stacking it's worthless for bringing CL above HD though. Losing the spells per day/known/levels from prestige classes is already bad, I'm not sure if I can afford to lose caster levels too if I can recuperate them with magical knack. I guess I just have to go with a more standard build, paizo makes it so hard to make anything work that sacrifice caster advancement :/.

Silver Crusade

Interested. I am thinking Paladin/Oracle going into the mystery cultist PrC. A true Holy Badass.

I vote Greyhawk, my favorite setting ever

Dark Archive

When playing older PCs, do we apply aging effects?

Maximum Age (Elf): 4d100 + 350 ⇒ (22, 97, 61, 55) + 350 = 585

A holy badass fits this campaign perfectly. :)
Sir Longears: Yes

GM, any thoughts on my application?

Looks good, Thak, except you can't modify fireball spell more than once with DS. Also, the concept that dwarves pray to a LE devil is difficult to grasp. But it has some nice hooks.

Tsk missed that sentence, thanks for pointing it out. I'll fix it up.

It is a bit unusual, but reading up on Haborym it seems that all he does is basically operate Asmodeus' super-gulag for evil creatures. I believe some dwarves could admire the dedication to lawfulness that entails. Plus, child-taken and raised cults/groups tend to have some extreme beliefs, encouraged by their ruling class.

I can't really make my character before I know if we'll be in Greyhawk or Golarion. The pantheon in Greyhawk is different right? If you do settle on Greyhawk, would you allow using the boons from Golarion deities (from defic obedience) for appropriate deities from Greyhawk?

Yes, if I choose Greyhawk, I would allow boons/classes/etc from Golarion pantheon to transfer over to appropriate deities.

Was thinking of the crossbow build, but it didn't really satisfy me.

Here's a character I used to play in Living Greyhawk who seems appropriate.

Siggut Frost
A tank dwarf fighter. He's been adapted to PF. He's a miner by profession who tends to be a loner by nature, but learned that he needed a team for survival. Originating in the County of Urnst, he got swept up in the unrest that happened there, and ended up a significant player in the local events. He played a key role in putting down the devil lead take over of the county, and stopped other major necromantic incursions as well.

After watching his homeland get invaded by devils, he changed from a purely neutral outlook to one more altruistic. He's always had a grudge against evil spellcasters, and has focused his abilities on defeating them.

He is not overly concerned with his appearance, having spent too many years by himself with only the company of a couple mules while prospecting. Baths are something others suggest to him, or he obtained by crossing a river. He uses only as many words as he absolutely has to in conversation. He is extremely loyal however, and has been willing to die to protect his homeland and compatriots several times in the past.

Appearance is fairly typical, with brown hair and eyes, wearing heavy armor and wielding a heavy pick.

I'll vote Greyhawk for setting.

Does Greyhawk have anything like the Bellflower Network in Golarion? I'm thinking of recycling the background from a rogue that I build that was rejected from another AP. I really liked the character, but if it doesn't fit in, I need to come up with something else.

Sir Longears: Yes

Ok then, He will be a secondary fighter, condition removal, healer support kind of holy badass

Greyhawk has the Bone March, a northern province of the Great Kingdom, that fell to humanoid invaders. Though it once held a sizable population of halflings, most (as well as humans and gnomes) in the area were enslaved or killed, though it is believed that hidden enclaves of halflings are holding out. The Network would fit perfectly there so go right ahead.

I always wanted to play Age of Worms ever since the good old magazine days! I am dotting this for extreme interest. I will most likely have a PC for your review later tonight. I am very interested in a highly team oriented group.

To be completely honest, I have very limited experience with PBP, but I am very interested in learning and I am willing to post daily at least, typically several times daily.

Silver Crusade

Greetings Citizens TFY here

Complete applications:
Tywynn
Siggut
Thak

Here is my submission filled out.

Nice! By the way, I have chosen Greyhawk as the setting. But as I said, we can transfer any Golarion themes over.

I am running two PBP homebrew Greyhawk campaigns so I was hoping you were going to pick Greyhawk so I can play in the lands I love.

I should note that I will likely modify stuff a bit when the Weapon Master Handbook stuff finally comes out for Hero Lab.

hmmm...

Tywynn- Oradin of sorts
Siggut- Dwarf fighter
Thak - Cleric

Currently the last thing the party needs is another divine. If selected and there is no arcane I can switch Kaydanna over to an arcane of sorts...

I was thinking to make a caster, though maybe with some rogueish stuff, that should go well with the rest.

maybe 1 ftr, two casters and two divine...?

I think you should apply with the character you most wish to play. My 2 cents.

Silver Crusade

I have my character mostly built, including gear, but I don't know what consumables are assumed at this level. I have a diamond worth 5000gp, as well as a wand of cure moderate wounds (with UMD high enough to auto activate it), with about 5500gp left. I'm not sure if there is an attack wand or two, or if I need some status removal potions. I also can buy and use scrolls and be almost guaranteed to succeed as long as they are low level spells (UMD is 20).

edit: Or is it OK if I wait until I see if I am chosen to finish up the gear? It seems that who is in the party may chance what consumables are needed.

Dark Archive

Hi Death-Lok! I'm working on an undine adept and should be finished by tomorrow. As a druid, he will work primarily as a caster, but could do a lot of stuff.

I intend to take the Spell Focus (conjuration) and Augment Summoning as feats, but the undine adept archetype already lets the druid summon creatures with the "water" subtype (which are mostly water elementals) as affect by Augment Summoning... if I take those feats, this class feature will become pointless. What is your thoughts of substituting the Augment Summoning of the archetype for the Superior Summoning? It wouls still just apply to creatures with the water subtype...

I'm working on my Sorcerer, but it will take a day or two to get up, especially since I have to built him to level 12.

Redelia: Yes, you can finish gear later. Do you have a sheet? I am curious to see skills, feats, saves, etc.

Sir Longears: Substituting Superior summoning is fine.

DG: You have time so no worries.

Silver Crusade

Yes, I have my character sheet done, I just wanted to make sure that I didn't need to finish buying stuff before I do all the work of importing it into the forum profiles. I plan to do that later today after the kids are tucked in for the night.

This is Lorani, Redelia's rogue character. Her background is a little vague due to unfamiliarity with the world this adventure is set in, and not being sure where the adventure will be starting. If chosen, I will be happy to adapt the background a little to fit in better.

As I said earlier, this alias was made for another campaign where I was not accepted. I really liked the character, so I have rebuilt her for this campaign.

Work in Progress under this alias.

crunch mostly done. need to work on background.

Silver Crusade

Ok, I believe I am finished. He will be a secondary reach fighter type(Protector of squishies), condition removal and a decent amount of healing.

I am going to close recruitment earlier than originally stated: January 27th by 10:00 pm EST.

I'm building a sorcerer. It doesn't look like anyone else is putting together an actual heavy duty arcane caster, so that's what I'm up to.

Updated completed applications:
Siggut - fighter
Thak - cleric
Kaydanna - warpriest
Tywynn - Paladin/oracle/cultist
Lorani - rogue

Expressed interest:
Longears - Undine adept
Sorek - Barbarian/monk/magus
Doublegold - sorcerer?
12.5% - sorcerer
Oyzar - caster
Spazmodeus - ?
Chillblame - ?
