The Deceiver |
I'll give you a circumstance bonus for moving slowly. Taking 10? It'll take quite a while to kill everyone. Up to you guys.
I'd rather do it that way. We can't handle the pirates if the alarm is sounded prematurely. Also, Kruelaid, will you give me an additional circumstance bonus for matching my movements to the movement of the ship.
Pharasma |
Ropes are clattering, wind is roaring, the hull is groaning. These guys are exhausted and have phased the noise out. As per PHB Listen they have -10 for the noise and another -10 for sleeping. You guys roll a 1 and have no stealth bonus, they roll a 20 and have a high bonus, you're f@@*ed. Otherwise this is a cakewalk.

The Deceiver motions for the other to keep silent as he performs his bloody task.
He moves stealthily to the pirate slumped over a table and stabs him in the throat, taking care to keep the pirate's mouth shut. The Deceiver repeats the process of each of the other pirates.
Luckily, the Deceiver can finish this task before the next change of the guard.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume Ryor wants in on this. Anyone else who has stealth might want a crack, too. Someone else might want to keep an eye on the hold and ladder doors, which are battened for bad weather.

When you kill a sleeping pirate: coup de grace with sneak attack.
Don't worry about AC, they don't have any armor so it seems ridiculous to make the roll.
If he survives he gets a fortitude roll and may wake someone else up while he dies.
Coup de grace gives you your attack damage + crit + sneak attack.
Ryor takes his dagger and creeps up on one of the sleeping pirates.
The repeating crossbow has 5 shots and does 1d10 damage. I posted its stats on the previous page. It is laying on top of Mooj. It does make a bit of noise, though, but then so does a struggling victim.

5C-Mooj, dead on some sacks.
8C-Pirate, asleep under the table in a coil of rope.
9B-Pirate, On the floor sleeping on some sacks.
9A, 10A, 9D, 10D-Pirates, in hammocks.
The red square signifies the hold doors, they are battened down from above because of the storm, but could be opened.
The yellow rectangle signifies a ladder up to the deck, it is covered.
There may be others you can't see in the back.

You each have three pirates to kill, Ryor has killed one of his.
Remember: crossbow crit is x2, saber crit is x3.
There are no reloads for the crossbow in plain sight.
Note he not going to use it now
Roger that. Let me know what you're doing if you want to change that instruction.
Ryor Saar'Narlok |
Use your dagger!
Ryor gonna take out the pirate at 8c-Stealth 1d20+9=11
[ooc]2d4=7, 1d6=6 13
pirate at 9D-Stealth 1d20+9=10
2d4=5, 1d6=4 9
pirate at 10D-Stealth 1d20+9=26 2d4=3, 1d6=6 9
What kind of weapons do these guys have? and or rings, treasure?
Pharasma |
I'll allow max damage on coup de grace [when there are no threats/no combat] because it makes sense. Interestingly, that's not how I learned it.
Coup de Grace: As a full-round action, you can use a melee
weapon to deliver a coup de grace to a helpless opponent. You can
also use a bow or crossbow, provided you are adjacent to the target.
You automatically hit and score a critical hit. If the defender survives
the damage, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + damage
dealt) or die. A rogue also gets her extra sneak attack damage against
a helpless opponent when delivering a coup de grace.
Delivering a coup de grace provokes attacks of opportunity from
threatening opponents because it involves focused concentration
and methodical action on the part of the attacker.
You can’t deliver a coup de grace against a creature that is immune
to critical hits, such as a golem. You can deliver a coup de
grace against a creature with total concealment, but doing this
requires two consecutive full-round actions (one to “find” the creature
once you’ve determined what square it’s in, and one to deliver
the coup de grace).

Summary
Once the party breaks out of the cage Ryor and The Deceiver move toward the aft first. The Deceiver drives a saber through Mooj’s neck. Ryor moves back with the crossbow and a dagger. Jon follows.
Bohdan, Nerius and Syd take guard below the hold door.
The Deceiver and Ryor each kill three pirates, Jon helps them. Not a sound is made by the party but a few of the pirates need a little extra attention, luckily Jon is holding them down and they don’t thrash.
I’m going to assume the following.
Ryor, Jon, and The Deceiver take rapiers and daggers from the pirates. Ryor keeps the crossbow, it still has 5 rounds.
The Deceiver moves to B12 to check the rooms and find more pirates, it’s very dark, but he thinks there are 4 more.
Jon guards the ladder up.
Ryor returns to the bow hold with 3 Sabers and 4 daggers in case anyone wants them. Syd has fighter levels and is proficient with saber. Bodhan, who doesn't have proficiency, keeps his chain.

The Deceiver |
The Deceiver delivers the pirate in A11 to Pharasma, thrust to the neck. He then stealthily moves to C13 and efficiently butchers the remainng pirates there. A thrust to the neck and clamping down on their mouths to prevent any sound.
This bloody work creates a very powerful thirst. Raises a toast to every one.
Bohdan |
Bohdan distributes any surplus knives to the two boys among the prisoners, just so they have something to defend themselves with. After that he quickly moves around the hold to cover up the bodies of the dead sailors, no need to traumatize the womenfolk anymore than necessary.
If any fresh water is to be found he'll dab some on the white haired man's face and try to rinse both his own and the man's nostrils as much as he can, to try and remove as much of the powder as possible.
Rackham Pulsifer |
Still manacled and straining at his restraints, Pulsifer begins chanting anew, louder this time. His eyes roll back into his head eerily.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the Lady, and the Word was Iomedae. The same was in the beginning with Her. All things were made by Her; and without Her was not any thing made that was made. In She was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not..."
Blood drips from his nose onto the decking.
"'E's making it up as 'e goes!"
Yeah. Haven't read the Paizo blog in a while.

The first pirate in this room proves to be a problem. The muscles in his neck tense and slow the knife, as if you are now cutting through thick rope, and it takes some sawing to get through.
As he struggles he awakens the other two.
At the same time The Intractable cuts into a colossal swell and aft plunges down, everyone must make a reflex roll (or acrobatics) DC 15 to remain standing in the surprise round that begins now.
Bohdan |
Reflex or Acrobatics, doesn't matter, same modifier (1d20=5)
Bohdan, very unaccustomed to the swell of the sea, quickly loses his balance in the heaving weather.
Pharasma |
Pulsifer strains even more at his chains, but in his weak and drugged state, his struggles are in vain.
Strength check: 7 + 0 = 7
"There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor!"
Pulsifer, in a peak of hallucination, strains at imaginary chains, not realizing Ryor removed them moments ago. When the swell hits he goes slamming into the bulkhead at D3, which wakes him up a little.

It's too late for me to be posting on PbPs. That's two f##@-ups in a row. I think I have a problem with my brain being missing.
Rackham staggers to to the nearest section of hull. Bracing himself against the wall, he shudders with drug-induced delirium, clutching his head and retching.
