Syd was raised in the Whippersnipt Orphanage in Korvosa, a rather Dickensian place which raised him to always be polite to a lady and to know one's place, but also how to handle oneself in a fight. "Be grateful for what you have" was one motto and he certainly is. He loves the sea and working on boats.
