Way of the Wicked AP Recruitment - Phase One
Guilty. You are a lawbreaker – the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains before a magistrate and condemned you. They sent you to the worst prison in the land and there they forever marked you. They held you down and branded you with a runic F. You are forsaken. You won’t be at Branderscar Prison for long. Branderscar is only a holding pen. In three days – justice comes. In three days – everything ends.
What a pity. If only there was a way out of this stinking rat-hole. If only there was a way to escape. If only...
No. No one has ever escaped from Branderscar Prison. This is where your story ends.
...Or is it?
Rules System:Pathfinder
Theme:You are villains trying to exact vengeance against a nation that cast you out, guided by a Dark Overseer, serving the great Asmodeus.
Available Books:Pazio published Pathfinder books. No third party.
Alignment Requirement: LE, NE, or a slim chance with N. Can you be a minion who follows orders? The diabolic mafia is recruiting, but is not taking orphanage bombers or crazed serial killers. NO CHAOTIC alignments allowed.
You are evil and have been convicted of a crime. Yes, you were actually guilty of that crime and more. One last opportunity comes along before you are to be beheaded, or burned at the stake or hung as it may be. This goody-goody culture around you sure has several ways to kill off people they don't like.
The characters begin with nothing. They have no money, no weapons or armor, no gear, no animal companions of any sort and no material possessions besides tattered, dirty prison clothes. Equipment will be acquired in game.
Alchemists begin without their formulae book, extracts, bombs or mutagens. They must have access to an alchemical lab or chemicals to have any of these abilities restored.
Bards begin without their instruments.
Cavaliers have lost their mount. Presumably their mount was slain or given to another during their capture. It can be presumed that their week of mourning is already in the past.
Clerics begin having chosen all their spells for the day. They do not have their holy symbol or any material components however.
Druids also begin having chosen all their spells for the day. They do not, however, have their animal companion with them. Presumably such a companion was slain during their capture or escaped and awaits them outside. Regardless, such beasts would never be allowed inside the prison. Only if they escape from Branderscar prison will they have a chance to reunite with their companion or conduct the ceremony to acquire another.
Inquisitors and Oracles lack their holy symbol if they need one.
Summoners begin the game with their Eidolon unsummoned. They begin the game shackled so they are unable to perform the necessary ritual until they are free.
Witches, Wizards and Magi do not have their spell books, material components, familiars or bonded objects. They do however begin with a full selection of memorized spells from before their incarceration.
Minimum Requirements
* I need a commitment to post a minimum of once per day Monday through Friday if not more.
* I need grown-ups. The game will have adult themes.
* I want players who give detailed and interesting posts. Not one-liners and blocks of speech text. The rule of three applies here. What is your character thinking, doing and saying.
* Expect your actions to have consequences. Don't be stupid. Play smart. If I give you lots of hints that opening the box will unleash fiery death. Don't open the box and expect to live.
* I'm a story teller, the rule of cool applies. If it's cool, cinematic and epic, screw the rules- I'll probably allow it. If this grates against your rules lawyer soul...we are not meant to play together.
* Unless I tell you otherwise...assume you can play with the scenery to help craft the story.
If haven't scared you off yet then keep reading...
A letter from your GM
Have you ever wanted to play an evil character? Have you perhaps played an evil character, only to have your every move thwarted by the good-aligned heroes in your party? Or perhaps did you play an evil character in a party full of evil characters, only to have everyone kill everyone else by level 3?
If you answered yes to these questions, then perhaps this is the right game for you!
Way of the Wicked is an extremely well written adventure path that will take you from level 1 to level 20 over the course of six books.
This adventure path is unique in that you will be playing in a group of evil-aligned characters, bent on gaining revenge against the goody two-shoes empire that tried to have you executed. It is even more unique in that you will be creating and managing evil organizations (as in minions!), defending evil rites, infiltrating temples of good, and battling celestial beings. You know all those good aligned outsiders you never really get a chance to fight against? This is your opportunity to smite them down and bathe in their blood!
In this Player’s Guide you will find information on the empire you will be toppling, the world it is placed in, organizations within it, as well as rules and instructions for creating villains. There are some variant options presented, as well as different options and potential house rules discussed that we will all discuss once the time comes.
For now, familiarize yourself with the setting and the guide and start thinking about what kind of villain you would like to be playing.
The application process will be done in 3 phases. In the first phase (Hey we are already here!), you will come up with an idea for a villainous character, fill out a questionnaire, and make decisions on what variants (outline in the player's guide). This is also where you will vote on whether this will be a campaign for 4 regular characters or 6 regular characters.
Phase 2 will see the variants and house rules finalized and you will finish a 10 minute (misnomer) background and fill out another questionnaire for your character.
Phase 3 will see you actually roleplaying your character (probably the crime they committed, being arrested, condemned, etc), so that both you and I can get a feel for your character.
Character sheet creation will not occur until the final 4 or 6 people have been chosen. Feel free to waste your time if you like, but I'm not telling you how ability scores are generated, or other vital pieces of information for creating sheets.
The deadlines for these 3 phases are as follows:Phase 1: August 31st 11:59pm CST
Phase 2: September 7th at 11:59pm CST
Phase 3: Will be decided depending on the number of applicants and how long the in character part goes on for, and will last until I've chosen the 3 or 4 players.
I look forward to this villainous campaign and hope you do too!
Phase 1 Questionnaire
1. Your experience with the rules
2. Your experience with PbP
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
5. Why you are applying to this game?
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
Phase 2 10 Minute Background & Questionnaire
The 10 Minute Background:
Link
The Questionnaire:
1. How does your character interact with the others within a group?
2. What is your character's role in a group?
3. How is your character not as they seems? I want one or two skills that would surprise others if they found out he knows them. Also include personality traits, positive or negative, that would similarly surprise others.
4. What are your character's goals, conscious and, perhaps, subconscious?
5. How easily does your character love? Have they been in love?
6. Is your character racist at all, either now or in their past?
7. All people believe something that is not true, both about the world around them and about themselves. What lies/untruths does your character believe about themselves and the world around them?
8. How is your character about material possessions?
9. What does your character perceive their major problems to be?
10. What does he perceive the solutions to those problems to be?
11. What are your character's religious beliefs?
12. What does your character fear?
13. How much of a temper does your character have? What sorts of things set them off?
Q&As
Are you expecting any progress done on Phase 2 before the deadline of phase 1? Wondering the order of operations as this is probably one of the most thorough application processes I've seen yet.
People can progress in any order they choose, as long as they complete the necessary steps before the deadline for each phase.
Are psychic characters allowed?
I'm going to say no to psionics for this one.
Should each part of our application be public, or is private ok?
Completely up to you.
What kind of races might be allowed?
All standard races and some monstrous races. There's a blurb about it in the player's guide, but if in doubt, ask me specifics and I'll give you a response.
It says all of them are allowed in the Player's guide, but some might have to sit out portions of the campaign. It's pretty vague.
So if nothing else, what kind of Race Point range are we looking at? Can you play something like a Centaur, with 28 RP? A Syrinx, with 16?
I want to keep in mind scale of power- because while playing a Drow Noble (41 RP) might be awesome from a backstory standpoint in some areas, it's only not pure cheese if that kind of choice is available for anyone else who wants it, or if adjustments can be made.
I'd say nothing above 19 RP, so nothing super crazy. That still leaves things like regular drow, goblins, hobgoblins, tiefling, aasimar, and changelings.
Can we add templates to other races up to a cap of 19 RP?
I'm going to say no to templates. Templates add to CR directly, unless you're talking about something different than what I'm looking at, and templates aren't really designed with PCs in mind.
If we are looking at building races up to 19rp might try my hand at a subrace of human, something long thought to be lost.
If you want to try your hand at building a race with a cap of 19, I wouldn't be immediately opposed to it, but we would have to work it out down the line during the character creation process.
I was thinking more along the lines of the creature types in the race guide- such as making a human with a few extra goodies to keep up with other PC's who have a higher RP race.
If an issue of party balance comes up during the creation process, I'll deal with it then.
What method in the players guide will be used for ability stats.
Focus and Foible is how stats will be rolled, but the last 4 stats rolled can be moved around.
Not sure if anyone else asked, is the rule about allowed LE anti-paladins allowed?
LE anti-paladins are allowed.
Are gunslingers and firearms available in this campaign?
I've decided not to have firearms in this campaign, so Gunslingers and any firearm archetypes will not be allowed.
A Final Note
I am aware that this application process is both unorthodox and, perhaps, intimidating. I do this on purpose. I have a responsibility to the players I select to have chosen 4 or 6 dedicated and talented individuals so that all of us can reap the rewards of a long, successful adventure path.
Please do not hesitate to PM me, call me out on something, disagree with me, ask questions, bite your thumb at me, or anything else you need to do for me to get your application. I don't bite.
I look forward to your applications and good luck!
PLEASE READ THE PLAYERS GUIDE ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND THEN RE-READ IT PRIOR TO STARTING THE APPLICATION PROCESS!!
Sorry to scream but I do not want the thread cluttered with people that do not read.

Dotting for interest. I would love to play. I'm going to work on a character and get back to you soon. I've got a couple of ideas in the mix. This is awesome.
1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
2: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
3: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
4: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Strength=18+2 (Focus)
Dexterity=15
Constitution=16-2
Intelligence=15
Wisdom=8 (Foible)
Charisma=17+2
Potentially looking at a Dampir (Moroi-Born) Antipaladin. That just the concept, I'll work on the fluff, I've got some crazy RP ideas I want to sort through.
I'm very happy to post upto twice per day and I love a rich RP game, especially the change to play as an evil character.

Grand Moff Vixen |

Sorry to scream but I do not want the thread cluttered with people that do not read.
That's a long post there. If you want people to read it, you should take your own advice. Your list is so long that any desire I had to play has been decimated.
Your past games that influenced such a harsh attitude should not be taken out on the players. Deal with your issues first and then come back to us.
Until then, toodle-oo!

Hello. DM Barcas here. I ran this fellow through a now-on-hiatus Way of the Wicked game that was fantastic. Depending on the quality of players applying, I may create a new character for this game. My expectations are very high for playing in a game (as seen by my Kingmaker and Skull & Shackles games that I run), so I'd prefer to wait to see if other quality roleplayers arrive. I can poke some of my players to see if they might be interested.
If you don't mind suggestions, I have one: place the game in Golarion. Specially, make Talingarde a former colony of Cheliax. Being able to add a lot of verisimilitude based on the rich Golarion lore adds a lot to the game.

If you don't mind suggestions, I have one: place the game in Golarion. Specially, make Talingarde a former colony of Cheliax. Being able to add a lot of verisimilitude based on the rich Golarion lore adds a lot to the game.
Talingarde will be set in Golarion. It will take the place of the island of Hermea in the southern steaming sea/north Arcadian ocean.
Talingarde - Geography
Welcome to the island kingdom of Talingarde. Talingarde is an independent nation located in the southern Steaming Sea. Originally settled by humans of Varisian decent, their many centuries apart from their homeland has cooled their normally hot blood. Interbreeding with Ulfen raiders has created an interesting mix of the two disparate bloodlines.
Several clans of dwarves live among the humans rather then in their own citadels like most dwarves. These city dwarves are valued highly for their stonework. In fact, several great fortifications of dwarven make help protect the heartlands from the hordes of bugbears known to inhabit the northern reaches of the island.
Talingarde - Religion and Recent history
Talingarde was once a place of religious tolerance. Temples to the Dark Father Asmodeus co-existed alongside temples of Iomedae and Saranrae. The religious factions lived in an uneasy truce for hundreds of years. Perhaps inevitably, forces from outside the small kingdom eventually broke the fragile peace. Cheliax agents began inciting Talingarde priests of Asmodeus to wrest control of the city for themselves. Surely Father Asmodeus would reward the strong, and the weak would reveal themselves to be unworthy. And if Cheliax gained a puppet kingdom in the process well...That would be icing on the cake.
Unfortunately for the Asmodean clergy, they were severely outnumbered. The bulk of the knights and nobles of Talingarde followed Iomedae, with a smaller contingent following Saranrae. When the civil war began, the combined armies of the Saranraen and Iomedaen knights crushed the infernal forces. The leaders of the civil war begged for mercy, negotiating a surrender with a knight captain in service to Saranrae. However, the Iomedeans would hear nothing of it. The Asmodeans were slaughtered to a man. Every temple was leveled and not an acolyte was left alive.
The followers of Saranrae protested such a brutal action against a foe that had clearly surrendered, but their voices were lost among the cries for justice from the followers of Iomedae. Today, the followers of Iomedae reign largely unopposed. The royal family are devout followers of the Iomedean church, as are the bulk of the nobles. The church of Saranrae has been relegated to fairly minor role in the kingdom, having lost much of the support of the common folk and the nobility after the war.
A peace heretofore unseen in the region has settled over the land. The people are content and have faith that their rulers will protect them from any threat that might present itself.....For now.

Just getting the dice rolling out of the way now.
1: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
2: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
3: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
4: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Okay, neat. I can work with this.
I am thinking a LE Half-orc (or maybe a Demon-spawn Tiefling or a Skinwalker?) Oracle of Battle. Been looking at maybe trying a Wolfscarred/Deafened Dual-cursed Oracle, which might be really flavorful and neat overall. Obviously a worshipper of Asmodeus. As far as his crime, he'd probably have the Attempted Murder trait, for having tried to slay a high-ranking diplomat or knight and failing miserably. I've got some concepts for the character rolling around in my head, but we'll see.

Way of the Wicked? Check.
Not some crazy or/and unnecessary variation of it? Check.
Thorough opening post? Check.
Golarion based? Check.
Most almost-exaggeratedly elaborate recruitment progress ever? Asmodean Check.
Color me really interested. :D
98% I'm submitting a character for this (that 2% is for the maybe focus and foible method: I hate rolling for stats...).
If I submit someone it'll be surely this character tough: I made her especially for a WotW campaign, waiting for one that looked nice, and I think I found it. :)
I'll sleep on it, and I'll let you know tomorrow.
EDIT: A question tough: I understand the multi-phase recruitment, but why are you making it this long, time wise?

Vrog Skyreaver |

stealing that guy's hat to throw into the ring.
PHASE 2 (Just like marvel studios films! =P)
The Questionnaire:
1. How does your character interact with the others within a group?
Davian is likeable, outgoing, and sociable, but when he switches to his hunter personality everything about him, including his body language, changes.
2. What is your character's role in a group?
Scout, planner, brains, and masked vigilante.
3. How is your character not as they seems? I want one or two skills that would surprise others if they found out he knows them. Also include personality traits, positive or negative, that would similarly surprise others.
Davian is (was) a member of one of the richest families in Talingarde, until his parents were killed in front of him. vowing vengeance on all criminals, he travelled the world training with investigators, mystics, and law enforcement officials until returning home, ready to begin his war on crime: only to find that the people who had killed his family had been tried, convicted, and executed for the crime (in other words, the system worked). Seething at being denied his chance for closure, Davian began maiming and beating "criminal scum" who committed "heinous crimes" (in reality normal people who made minor infractions of the law).
As the law was want to do, they organized a manhunt for the madman who was attacking random citizens. Davian saw this as the corrupt government and guards trying to destroy him for rooting out their evil, so he began attacking them as well.
Davian has the bruising intellect and world traveler (sense movtive) traits.
4. What are your character's goals, conscious and, perhaps, subconscious?
To overthrow the criminal empire that is holding the populace of talingarde under it's clutches, and free said people.
5. How easily does your character love? Have they been in love?
Never. It would distract him from his mission.
6. Is your character racist at all, either now or in their past?
Davian only sees guilt or innocence, not skin.
7. All people believe something that is not true, both about the world around them and about themselves. What lies/untruths does your character believe about themselves and the world around them?
Davian has convinced himself utterly that the ruling family is full of mastermind criminals propped up by a corrupt regime of tin soldiers.
8. How is your character about material possessions?
Anything can be a tool.
9. What does your character perceive their major problems to be?
I'm surrounded by criminal scum.
10. What does he perceive the solutions to those problems to be?
Violence, mostly.
11. What are your character's religious beliefs?
The gods don't exist. They're just powerful beings pulling a con over on mortals.
12. What does your character fear?
Allowing injustice to spread, or losing control of himself.
13. How much of a temper does your character have? What sorts of things set them off?
Davian is surprisingly calm. He never allows himself to become angry, as that would mean a loss of control.
In a nutshell, Davian is Batman, if Bruce Wayne had gone down a different path. Mechanically, he's going to be a ninja, as he learned ancient combat techniques and dying esoteric arts during his journey of training. I'm headed home from work now, so i'll get the rest of his submission posted when I get there.

DM Asmodeus |

A question tough: I understand the multi-phase recruitment, but why are you making it this long, time wise?
It may not take that long, did not know how many applications I would get and how quickly. I also wanted to give everyone that was interested the proper time to respond as I am looking for the top notch role players and not just to fill player slots. The same can be said for the lengthy questionnaires, I do understand this process is not for everyone and I certainly can see why some would not be interested.
Not everyone has the patience to serve Asmodeus and his selection process is difficult. To weed out the weak. The undecided and the uncommitted. He will only take the best servants to his cause and will only select the chosen ones that show dedication and determination to overthrow that which is good. The rest will die in Branderscar Prison.

DM Barcas |

Phase 1 Questionnaire
1. Your experience with the rules
I am quite experienced with the rules, having played Pathfinder since the beginning. Prior to Pathfinder, I played 3.5. I generally prefer to be the DM, so I know the rules very well.
2. Your experience with PbP
I have two very long-running games on the boards, linked above in my post as Mikhail Halancoun. I also have extensive experience with characters.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
I have extremely high expectations for rich characterization and powerful emotional moments. PBP allows for lengthy and detailed posts, forcing you deep into your character's head. Please see Mikhail's in-character posts for the sort of style that I prefer, and the thread for the style of game that I prefer.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
See #3. PBP is a role-player's dream. With a good DM and good players, it can far surpass tabletop in getting to the heart of your characters and telling their story.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
I like Way of the Wicked, and the stringent requirements make me believe that you would create a strong party.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Good roleplaying is consistency in-character, interacting with the other party members (and not just the NPCs), talking in-depth about the situations that they face.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I have played as Mikhail Halancoun through the escape from Branderscar and the entry into the Knot. Beyond that, I don't have any knowledge.

Chill Dude |

Yes! A WotW PbP that isn’t swarmed (yet) with people. I’d better throw my hat into this ring!
I have in mind, if you’ll consider me, an elven asmodean cleric with a dark backstory (goes without saying), with a horrid view of life. I imagine this guy as a fanatical servant of Asmodeus, like a fundamentalist view; he lives and breathes the dogma of Hell. An obviously LE cleric, he can serve as a versatile support character, as well as a party face.
1. Your experience with the rules: I have been playing Pathfinder for 3 years now, so I consider myself quite adept with the rules.
2. Your experience with PbP: Very little, but I’ve followed a few PbP and I think I get the gist of it.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience: A fun, welcoming, rp heavy group that is willing to explore the darkest corners of our own psyche and use this campaign as a wonderful catharsis
4. Philosophy as a PbP player: Write good, and roleplay even better.
5. Why you are applying to this game?: I have wanted to play this adventure path for 2 years now with a working rp group. So, I hope this can be my chance.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.: Almost like a paragraph, or two, in a well written book. Telling what the character does, says, and thinks in detail, but not to a ridiculous wall-o-text degree.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?: I have been trying to play this for 2 years now. I know it’s beginning story and I have created characters using it’s rules in the Players Guide.
Will you be using focus and foible for this campaign, or the 25 point buy? I’d like to know soon, so I can make a character for you to examine with either system. And hello DM Barcus! I followed your WotW PbP and was a huge fan of that game. I would consider it an honor to game with you, if you so inclined to join this game.

Phase 1 Questionnaire:
1. Your experience with the rules - I've got over a year of experience with Pathfinder as a player, and a couple weeks as a DM.
2. Your experience with PbP - Prior to a significant break (about a year) from PbP games, I was involved in at least six separate PbP games. I am currently in two games on this forum.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience - I want to get a chance to roleplay something I usually never would play. I almost always play LG, LN, NG or TN characters, so I want to give something that's outside of my experience a go. I expect to have a lot of fun and do some stuff I normally would never do.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player - I try to fit in as much as I can in words as physically possible. I want to show what my character is doing to the best of my ability with the means I am given.
5. Why you are applying to this game? - It sounds like a fun adventure, it lets me play a character I normally never would, and this interview process means that the final group is really going to be focused and prepared for the needs of the campaign.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP. - Using every method you can to tell a good story. Text can be very dry, but a good roleplayer can make it fun and interesting.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path? - I have almost no experience with the AP. I was accepted into a WotW PbP game before my break, but I don't think anything ever really came of it.
Pretty sure I am going to go with Half-orc for this character. Drath Longtooth is going to definitely be a LE Oracle of Battle, but everything else is still up in the air. He'll probably be super intimidating, but beyond that I'm still crafting him.

Thank you DM Barcas, Seranov and Chill Dude. I have started the application process for all of you. The only thing I am missing from the three of you for Phase One is your vote for the number of players. The option is either 4 or 6. Just let me know.
Will you be using focus and foible for this campaign, or the 25 point buy?
Focus and Foible is how stats will be rolled, but the last 4 stats rolled can be moved around.
* However please note, character sheet creation will not occur until the final 4 or 6 people have been chosen. I won't even start looking at number stats and crunch till then. Frankly they are not important in my selection process. I am more concerned with the character as a person and outlook, background, etc. I need characters with personality to build the story off of first and foremost. The mechanics are there to support the story.

Whoops!
I'd say 6 people. Let more people in on the fun, and lets us cover more bases. It sounds like we're going to be stretched thin as far as skills and such, anyway, so having a pair of extra heads should make it a smoother game overall.

2. Focus and Fobile it is then! However I can wait till you have selected your players.

Once I have all your information for Phase One of the application, sit back and relax let others start their applications as well. I will inform everyone when and how to complete phase two in a few days, after the initial applicant wave has passed.
I will be starting another thread for phase two for the applicants that have completed phase one at that time as well.
Just keep watching this thread and I'll let everyone know when we are ready to proceed to the next step. If you have any questions please let me hear them and I will do my best to get you an answer.
Good Luck everyone.

DM Asmodeus |

If you want to start working on Phase Two of your application then here are the details below.
Thanks for completing Phase One of your player application. Phase two instructions are below.
First you have to make a choice about the houserule for the game. You either choose to use it or you don't. It is all inclusive or nothing.
If you choose not to use it then 1's and 20's will be as normal and you will not have access to hero points or have the ability for another player to use their hero points on your character.
It is completely up to you, the below mechanics will only effect the characters that chose to use them.
Critical Hits
A Natural 20
Critical hits that fall in your crit range that is not a natural 20 work just like the Pathfinder rules state, they must be confirmed, etc. The only houserule change is on natural 20’s.
Natural 20's always are a critical, no need for a confirmation roll. They also have a chance to have another boon effect as randomly determined by the GM.
Who gets the new natural 20 effect?
All player characters, named NPC’s and named opponents. Un-named foes do not get the natural 20 boost and always have to confirm their criticals, they also get no chance of a boon effect.
Critical Miss (Fumbles)
A Natural 1
On a natural 1 there is a chance of a mishap occurring, dependent upon what type of action you were taking at the time of a natural one.
Who gets the new natural 1 effect?
All combatants. There is no exception.
Hero Points
A player can have up to 3 Hero Points maximum in reserve at any one time unless they take a feat that allows otherwise.
How do I earn additional Hero Points?
Hero Points are story based awards. You do not get Hero Points for leveling your character. They are given out at set points for completing story adjectives. Hero Points cannot be traded between players. However you can use them to boon fellow players only if you are in an adjacent space and could have an effect on the outcome of an action.
Uses for Hero Points
Hero points can be spent at any time and do not require an action to use (although the actions they modify consume part of your character's turn as normal). You cannot spend more than 1 hero point during a single round of combat. Whenever a hero point is spent, it can have any one of the following effects.
Act Out of Turn: You can spend a hero point to take your turn immediately. Treat this as a readied action, moving your initiative to just before the currently acting creature. You may only take a move or a standard action on this turn.
Bonus: If used before a roll is made, a hero point grants you a +8 luck bonus to any one d20 roll. If used after a roll is made, this bonus is reduced to +4. You can use a hero point to grant this bonus to another character, as long as you are in the same location and your character can reasonably affect the outcome of the roll (such as distracting a monster, shouting words of encouragement, or otherwise aiding another with the check). Hero points spent to aid another character grant only half the listed bonus (+4 before the roll, +2 after the roll).
Extra Action: You can spend a hero point on your turn to gain an additional standard or move action this turn.
Inspiration: If you feel stuck at one point in the adventure, you can spend a hero point and petition the GM for a hint about what to do next. If the GM feels that there is no information to be gained, the hero point is not spent.
Recall: You can spend a hero point to recall a spell you have already cast or to gain another use of a special ability that is otherwise limited. This should only be used on spells and abilities possessed by your character that recharge on a daily basis.
Reroll: You may spend a hero point to reroll any one d20 roll you just made. You must take the results of the second roll, even if it is worse.
Special: You can petition the GM to allow a hero point to be used to attempt nearly anything that would normally be almost impossible. Such uses are not guaranteed and should be considered carefully by the GM. Possibilities include casting a single spell that is one level higher than you could normally cast (or a 1st-level spell if you are not a spellcaster), making an attack that blinds a foe or bypasses its damage reduction entirely, or attempting to use Diplomacy to convince a raging dragon to give up its attack. Regardless of the desired action, the attempt should be accompanied by a difficult check or penalty on the attack roll. No additional hero points may be spent on such an attempt, either by the character or her allies.
Cheat Death: A character can spend 2 hero points to cheat death. How this plays out is up to the GM, but generally the character is left alive, with negative hit points but stable. For example, a character is about to be slain by a critical hit from an arrow. If the character spends 2 hero points, the GM decides that the arrow pierced the character's holy symbol, reducing the damage enough to prevent him from being killed, and that he made his stabilization roll at the end of his turn. Cheating death is the only way for a character to spend more than 1 hero point in a turn. The character can spend hero points in this way to prevent the death of a familiar, animal companion, eidolon, or special mount, but not another character or NPC.
After answering the question about the house rule then you need to create a 10-minute background for your character.
1. Write five things essential to your character’s background including previous adventures and events.
2. List your character’s goals and things you want to see happen to your character.
3. List two secrets about your character. Keep in mind secrets your character may not know yet.
4. List three people that are tied to the character through blood, romance or honor. Remember to include positive and negetive reflections.
5. Describe your character in detail as you see fit. Relate any additional information you believe is important or required. Include personality and mannerisms.
After you have completed the background then you will need to answer the Phase 2 Questionnaire.
After that you are all done. Please submit everything above at one time grouped together so that I can add it into your application file.
Good Luck.

The following is a current list of completed Phase One applications that I have received. If you don't see your name on the list then please contact me to see what is missing in your application.
* This list will be updated each evening CST
Player Name and Character Concept.
Chill Dude - Elven Cleric of Asmodean
DM Barcas - Dhampir Monk/Anti-Paladin
Lord Zekk - Dhampir Female guilty of sedition.
Seranov - Half-Orc Oracle of Battle
Seth86 - Dhampir Anti-Paladin

Tirion Jörðhár |

Still trying to decide on a character concept.
First thought - Fetchling Sorcerer(Shadow(Umbral) Bloodline)
--> would be open to also playing a dhampir if the whole party is dhampir, although my last character for WotW was a dhampir and I would prefer something else.
--> not locked into this as I will need to figure a background which may greatly alter the class/race
Here are the basics:
1. Your experience with the rules?
I believe I have good knowledge of the rules although whenever I get a chance to play in a tabletop game, usually at conventions as I have not found a local game, I usually discover that some minor point I have thought was one way is actually another.
2. Your experience with PbP?
I began playing PbP here on the Paizo site just over 3 years ago. Before that, I had not played in several years. Essentially, I went from AD&D, with a little 2 edition, to PF and managed to completely miss the debacles of 3rd ed and 4th ed, and the slightly more successful 3.5 which apparently kept the diehards playing this great game until PF arrived.
As far as PbP experience goes, I have just over 21k posts in about 38 months. I have many campaigns that have died, generally due to a DM either going AWOL or the DM realizing that he/she had taken on too much. I have 6 different aliases with over 1k posts, and several more with close to that amount.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience?
I love the interaction between characters and players. With rare exceptions, I have found that games with less than a 4-1 IC to OOC ration rarely survive long. Thus, I look for a game with people who are in for the long haul and are interested not only in their characters, but in the party and in talking/joking with the other players. In addition, I am looking for a creative DM who keeps the AP on track, while simultaneously allowing the party a reasonable amount of freedom to sidetrack without completely derailing the game.
One thing that I really do not like is characters who always want to go solo - party scouts/rogues are frequently in this category. It is something that happens of necessity on occasion, but is also one of the most frequent causes, in my opinion, of other players losing interest in a game if it becomes a regular occurrence.
I also look for players who care about the game. To me, one of the ways people show that they care not about their character, but about the other players and the game is when a person regularly posts that they are going to be away from the game for more than a day or so. There is nothing more annoying as being in the middle of a conversation or battle, and suddenly having everyone sitting around twiddling their thumbs waiting for several days for an absent player to post.
Finally, I look for players who care enough about the game to make a character sheet that is actually readable, not the unintelligible output from HeroLab which makes everything hard to find, usually does not include untrained skills, globs equipment into a long horizontal string, and for some reason places ability scores in the middle of the sheet. For anyone who likes my format, I will happily email the template.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player?
As much fun as it is to create the grittiest most disgruntled character in the world, I find this to be very poor for PbP role playing. I have seen many people create this type of character - usually CN or NE characters and I do not think I have seen a single one that I enjoyed playing with as this type of self-centered character, even if run by a very experienced role player, just ends up dragging the entire campaign into a morass of depression and distrust - not something that is really good for making a fun game.
Whether I am playing a free willed CG character or a LE rules advocate, I find a way to make the party a center of my game. The purpose of this game is to have fun. PbP is not like tabletop where if you are testing out your newest demented half-orc Geisha bard and discover you do not like it, you can just create a new character for the next weeks module. With PbP, you are effectively creating a character that you, and the rest of the party, are going to be wed to for 1-5 years depending on the game's speed. Thus, as mentioned, I believe in creating a character who will work with the party for whatever the purpose of the party may be - saving damsels, finding treasure, or overthrowing LG governments.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
To put it simple, this is probably my favorite AP I have had a chance to play, even if it has only been for a small part of the game. I really enjoy some of the options that are available such as the Path of the Vampire or the Path of the Lich. I also really like the ability to play a dark character with a lot of depth of character. This is a person who committed some atrocious crime, why did he/she do it? Self benefit? Revenge? Coercion? Duress? The options of how the character fell out of the wonderful happy happy joy joy world of Talingarde are almost infinite. Seeing how the character grows from that fall from grace is why I play this game. Will the character seek redemption (unlikely as it would mean the end of the campaign)? Seek personal growth? Try to rule the world? The underworld? The church? Magic?
In the end, this game gives one far more options that the usual good character because morals and ethics are at best malleable guidelines designed to keep the character from getting caught.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Pretty much answered in 3 and 4 above. Good role playing is using descriptions for your actions not just "Attack". Good role playing is telling the party and DM when you are going on vacation for a week. Good role playing is posting something when your character is not the focus of the scene. Post you sneeze, or stare absently at the defaced picture of Iomedae, or leer at the serving wench, or go outside to check on the horses. And, as referenced above, one of the most important parts of good role playing is being part of a semi-regular OOC discussion which allows others to at least get to know you as a player. Otherwise you become just a character on paper.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I don't want to know how many times I have attempted to start this campaign. As far as games that actually seemed to follow the AP, I have probably started this campaign 4 or 5 times. Three of those ended with the DM either disappearing or canning the game before we made it out of Branderscar. One made it into the tests, but I do not think that we finished the tests, or if we did, we did not make it much farther.
I was in one long running WotW, but from my experience with other short lived WotW campaigns, the long running one was HIGHLY modified with us interacting with powerful demons and devils and many of the NPC's being highly modified to create much deeper enemies and associates. This campaign Doug M's Way of the Wicked was an awesome campaign which racked up about 13,500 IC posts and another 6,000 OOC posts in about 18 months before RL got in the way and the DM sadly had to put it on hiatus. I cannot tell you exactly how he changed the game, but as an example, one of the tests in Doug M's WotW involved a long sloping corridor with several switchbacks. We had to run down the corridor while being followed by a 10' diameter boulder which slowly gained speed each round. In the end a friendly NPC picked me up and carried me as I was encumbered and would have been crushed. I then, as a summoner, started summoning suicide ponies that charged the boulder slowing it a little each time and enabling us, after getting past several other situations, to all survive. Here is the start of this interesting sequence. Also shows some of my pbp style, I was the Judge.
Player vote - probably 6 due to expectant attrition. I would not be unhappy with 4, but think that 6 allows for a more diverse party.

TarkXT |

1. Your experience with the rules
Extensive.
2. Your experience with PbP
5+ years
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
More or less what I'd expect at a regular table. Lots of good roleplay and story telling with some or lots of actual thoughtful and interesting combat.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
Try to keep things moving. It's something I admit I struggle with.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
My old one died and I'm trying to fill the gaps as more and more of my games seem to fade.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Good prose that remains within character and a willingness to allow things to happen rather than be a force that stalls or stops things from happening.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
Some. There was a lot of skipping about and we didn't exactly explore a lot (this AP can be rather unforgiving).

Okay, I think I'm going to try and submit a character that I'd been thinking of for another evil campaign, I'm just going to change the race a tad. I had an idea for a Skinwalker Inquisitor of Malacoda, one of the generals of Hell. Flavor-wise, he's an Asmodean, but he believes that the only real way to spread the word of Asmodeus is at the edge of his sword, as some of the Malebranche (especially Malacoda) do. I'll be expanding that in Stage 2 later. For now...
1. Your experience with the rules
I've been playing Pathfinder for about 2 years now, and I've tried my hand at GMing a few times, even though I'm much better as a player. I feel like I've got a fairly good grasp of the rules though.
2. Your experience with PbP
I'm currently taking place in three PbP campaigns on the forum-Skull and Shackles, Carrion Crown, and Rise of the Runelords. However, all of these campaigns are being run by friends of mine, and I've never done a PbP with just complete strangers before. I'm hoping that won’t be counted too much against me, although I’d understand if there was some trepidation because of that.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
Plain and simple, I want to have fun. I love playing evil characters (my first ever character, a gnome sorcerer, claimed to be descended from Asmodeus himself. Ended up meeting him and going down to Hell to live with Daddy for a while.) and I’ve always wanted to try out an evil campaign. I feel like if it’s played right, and the PvP’s kept to a bare minimum, we could have a ton of fun slaughtering the innocent and destroying any semblance of good in the world.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
In a standard tabletop game, many times it can be a combat-centric game with a scattering of RP moments in between encounters. In PbP, it’s the exact opposite-there’s only so many ways you can write “I swing my sword at him” before you start getting bored. If you want to really create a character and flesh him/her out, PbP is the perfect place for that.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
Like I said before, I love the concept of evil campaigns. I’ve also had my eye on Way of the Wicked for some time now, ever since I found out about it. The sheer rigorousness of this application is also fairly attractive to me as well-I feel like anyone who’s going to put this much time and effort into just applying to this game is going to be someone who can make this an awesome campaign.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
I touched on this before, but really fleshing your character out is most important to role-playing to me, or at least trying to give them something of a personality. Do you have a backstory? Great-I don’t want to hear it all right now. Tell me about your guy’s past through what he does and says over the course of the campaign. Making characters grow and change over the course of the campaign never hurts either-maybe your world-weary, cynical hobo character really just wants someone who won’t screw him over first chance, and over the course of adventuring he finds that he’s gotten exactly that. Good roleplaying isn’t done all at once-it’s done over the course of the campaign, in order to create an actual person instead of your typical adventurer.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I flipped through the first bit of the first book, and I read a brief synopsis of the first and second books-I was thinking of trying to DM it for some friends once I got back to uni, but I’m probably not doing that now.
As for the player count, I'd be comfortable with either. 6 would be preferable, though-lets us be more diverse, as well as allowing for just more character interactions. Let me know if there's anything I missed!

Khelreddin |

Wow! This is a recruitment thread that means business. I have started this AP twice on these boards, both times with solid DMs who just vanished during the first book, and I’ve wanted to play it through ever since. I even got to play one of the Minionquest side adventures GM’ed by Gary McBride himself at PaizoCon last year, giving me an even stronger thirst for the particular flavor of this adventure arc.
I would love to try again with the character concept I started both times: Felrin Vennax is a tiefling inquisitor of Asmodeus, who for decades has managed to pass for human – passing, in fact, as a skilled clockmaker who has to leave each city he works in before anyone notices that he doesn’t seem to age. Eventually, his past catches up with him, and he has to kill to try to protect the secret of who he is. He has killed before, but this is the first time he’s been caught, and it leads him to Branderscar and fills him with a burning hunger for revenge on the self-righteous Mitrans who have dogged him for a century.
If you want to read more at this point, his alias, with a much more in-depth background, is here.
In the meantime, I’ll run through your Phase 1 questions and give some thought to Phase 2.
1. Your experience with the rules
I’ve been playing D&D since 1981, and Pathfinder for about three years. I don’t have instant recall of all the rules, but I know the system well and know where to find what I need.
2. Your experience with PbP
I started in my first PbP a little over 18 months ago. Almost 7,000 posts later, I find it to be a very rewarding, fun way to play the game. I’ve had a few experiences where DM’s were not terribly thorough or exacting in their selection processes and have suffered through some pretty poor writing – and just plain crappy spelling (I was raised by an editor and literally got ‘grammar tickets’ as a kid). As a result, I’m a lot more selective in what I take the time to apply for.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
I want to have fun. I want to laugh and make others laugh. I want to have those moments where I’m reading a post and my heart starts to pound as I imagine what’s coming next. I want to try to create those moments for others. I want to feel the relationships build between characters in the story, so the injury or death of one really means something, and the triumph or failure of us all means even more.
I post frequently, and write carefully, and greatly appreciate it when others do the same.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
As I said above, the building of relationships among the characters in a PbP means a lot to me, and I try to work that in from the very beginning of the story. I speak to other characters, I ask them things and tell them things and include my thoughts in what I write so they get to know me a bit better as well. That said, I also really enjoy a brutal, challenging fight where we just barely survive by working together.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
I’m particular about what I apply to, and I’ve been trolling the recruitment board for a Way of the Wicked game that looked like it would deliver a good experience. This looks like it could do that, and then some.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
My answer to this is similar to #4 above: push and pull with other players to build relationships, having an idea where your character is going so there’s inner development as well as connection to others, and not taking myself too seriously. I have a number of characters who are the class clown of the party, and others where I’m the grim, antisocial type, or somewhere between these two poles – I like to mix up the kinds of characters I play, and I like to express the moods of an individual character depending on the circumstances. Having a single-note sort of character works well to make the persona clear in a short game like a PFS scenario, but gets old over the course of a longer adventure.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I have started this AP twice, both times as a PbP. The first time we didn’t even get out of Branderscar, but it was still fun. The second time we escaped, made it to the big house (being vague to avoid spoilers) and underwent some of the tests there, though I know the DM customized those a lot, so I don’t know how much of the story-as-written I’ve actually played. I found the setting and tone to be really excellent, and I loved the feeling of just scraping by with what you had and being on the run, and the air of menace throughout was fantastic. I also played MinionQuest II, so I have a feel for what things are like later in the campaign, but have not had direct experience with the main adventure path at that stage.
I look forward to the next phase of this. I’ll be camping the rest of this week and unlikely to be checking this thread, but I’ll look in when I’m back and see where things have gone!
Oh, and on the question of 4 vs 6 characters - I'd probably go with six.
And to Barcas - hello! It'd be fun to be on the same side of the table with you.

DM Asmodeus |

alexgndl and Khelreddin thanks for your submissions. Your Phase One application has been recorded.
Vrog, I look forward to it.
To the rest of you. I have received 10 applications in the first day of the recruitment thread so a new time table needs to be set up.
Phase One: The last day to submit a Phase One application will be Sunday, August 17th at 11:59pm CST. After this time the open recruitment will be closed to new applicants.
Phase Two: All applicants have completed a Phase One application will have until August 24th at 11:59pm CST to submit the Phase Two application.
Phase Three:The RP testing of applicants will begin as soon as all Phase two Applications have been received. Instructions will be given the day before for what thread to report to. The time of the Phase Three process will depend on the total number of applicants. Phase three will be a RP challenge that will be evaluated by me and your potential peers in a set of roleplay encounters that lead up to your characters imprisonment. With scheduled elimination voting or extermination of your potential character by your peers. This will be a role play event only and stats and numbers will not be needed. The four to six players making the final cut will then submit a full character sheet for approval.
*Note: Yes I know it is totally evil to have some of your potential player partners help eliminate you. Isn't that the point of being evil?
That's all the information I'm giving out on Phase Three right now, stay tuned for more.

Darkness Rising |

Dotting! I'm thinking a human wizard (conjuration specialist). I'd prefer 6 characters, as that means there'll usually be someone around on the thread to interact with. Should mean the game doesn't lag. Also, more villains is better (worse?)...
1. Your experience with the rules
Extensive - I've been playing D&D for over 20 years and Pathfinder for nearly 4. That said, I've played a number of gaming systems over the years and sometimes get the rules muddled. Hope people will bear with me/correct me as needed.
2. Your experience with PbP
Limited; I "discovered" it about 2 months ago, but I'm very committed and post regularly on the two campaigns I'm involved with (Skull & Shackles and Throne of Night (dwarves)).
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
I want to have fun! I want to help create a great story about how we bust out of prison and took the country down. I want to play Lawful Evil: co-operation (with an agenda) in the service of a non-Good cause.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
Interaction with the other players is central to the way I play; the adventure itself obviously matters, but the PbP format gives huge scope for role-play and I do my best to make the most of that - while trying to avoid the Wall of Text.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
This is tied in with (3) above - I love the idea of giving Lawful Evil a go and co-operating (admittedly, perhaps for a given value of co-operate...) in a Bad cause. This campaign offers a chance to try playing Evil without worrying too much about murderhobos or Chaotic Stupid types.
As to why this game specifically, I'm impressed by the rigour you're putting in as DM into the selection process (that probably sounds sycophantic, but it has to be acknowledged - this is going to take a huge chunk of your time) and I think/hope it will lead to a great gaming experience.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Something that gives a good sense of your character and their personality, but also permits the other characters to have their time in the sun - not to be a special snowflake demanding all the attention.
Having an idea from the outset of how your character is going to grow in response to the challenges they face, but being flexible enough to change that in response to circumstances.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I submitted a character as a replacement in a game that was already ongoing (about halfway through book 1). Apart from that, none at all.
I'll do Phase Two of the questionnaire when time permits.

Saltykid |

I'll put my name into the pile. I'm thinking of a human rogue eventually going into assassin, mostly like charged with either murder, attempted murder, or high treason. I am also okay with six people.
Played 3.5 for about a year and played pathfinder for about half a year.
2. Your experience with PbP
Less than half a year, In a couple of threads.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
Storied focus experience, not usually seen IRL. Generally something fun and unique.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
The players are the real storytellers. What they do next makes it fun.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
I seen this AP all over the forums and want to give it a shot.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Having to detailed what your character is doing, but yet not going overboard on it.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
None

Etna Agnes |

Phase 1
Ok, Adhan_Cielo's formally submitting for recruitment as Etna Agnes.
Let's get the painful part out of the way: rolls. D:
Focus: Charisma
Foible: Strength
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Stat Roll: 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Eh, I can work with those. At least there aren't odd numbers.
Now to the fun part!
Character Concept
It's an evil campaign, so I want to play Devil's Advocate. More precisely, a Devil's Advocate: Etna,a Wishcrafter Sorceress, works as a Lawyer and a Bank Clerk, and she's been orchestrating her mother's bankruptcy for years now. She's doing it to avenge her father's death, for which she suspect her mother is responsible.
In play, I'm itching to play the Wishcrafter archetype, as I think that it mesh combat and dialogue in interesting ways (I try to get them to talk, they say the wrong thing and BAM! off they go).
Phase one questionnaire
1. Your experience with the rules
I started actually playing Pathfinder only 7-8 months ago, so I still do some rookie's mistakes here and there (I.E. I hope I don't ever get grappled/have to grapple someone <.<). I mostly played around with previous edition of Dungeons and Dragons when they were used as rule system for PC games, like Torment, Baldur Gate, Neverwinter Nights etc. I know all the important stuff and then some more, and I have the habit to search on the rules forum for everything I want to use prior to actually using it. Better know how that spell actually works before firing it. :P
I still have to use Herolab to build most of my characters, otherwise I always lose a Skill point or two on the way <.<
2. Your experience with PbP
I got interested in PbP around October of last year, when I stumbled upon Painlord's guide to advanced PbP. I lurked around for some time, and then tried: I got lucky at the first try. :D
Now I'm in 2 PbP that hopefully are going for the long haul: I can keep one post a day with no problems! I only had one game die, because of serious RL problems of the DM. :(
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
I'm hoping for a RP-heavy campaign, full of different ways to resolve situations and the like (something I've heard this AP does a very good job at), and hopefully not one of those 'hyper-lethal' games: I get attached to my characters. :(
I would prefer if we could keep a rate of one post a day, but I know that RL happens, so no biggies if we have to stop for a day or two: as long as things keep going, everything's fine. And by 'keeping things going' I don't mean OHMYGODWEHAVETORUSHENDTHISDUNGEONIN3DAYSRUNRURUNRAGELANCEPOUNCETHEWALLDOEEE EEEET. A week passed around a campfire, with the PCs talking and RPing is 'keeping things going' (and a week well spent, I'll add). :)
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
Most important thing and center of my philosophy of gaming: we're here to have fun! :) That means not being a jerk and helping out when you can, making things easier for the other players and the GM. Try not to be a spotlight hog, and leave 'hooks'(as Painlord calls them) for other players to react to.
And I agree with Tirion: joking around in the Discussion thread is required. :P
Also, warn when you'll not be able to post: not being able to post is fine, people suddenly disappearing is not-so.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
Well, WotW offers an opportunity to play character concepts that you won't be able to play elsewhere: I also heard really good opinions on the AP and on Fire Mountain Games in general.
Now for why I'm applying to this WotW game...
At first impact, I always put a lot of importance on Opening Recruitment post, and yours is one of the best I've seen: I think that shows how much a GM cares for his own campaign. Second, I like your determination and thoroughness. Third, I had a good gut feeling: don't laugh, that's important for the games I pick. :P
I found that if something doesn't catch me at first sight it probably never will, but this game did, so...
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
As I already said: hooks, hooks everywhere! More hooks than those that there are at a convention of pirates!
Seriously, giving others something for interacting with your character is important: I like PbP a lot because it trades speed of play for the advantage of putting an emphasis on PC interactions and character development. The possibility of writing your character thoughts and describing in detail their actions are a crazy powerful tool.
And that's good RP in PbP: giving a chance to your character and all other PCs to develop. :)
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
I know something about the opening sequence and the encounter with cardinal Thorn. For the prison break, I mostly know that a chick called Tiadora (spelling) gives you a veil with some items and ask you to break out of Brandescar. Then the prison break happens, you have the chance to free a friendly ogre called Grumblejack, and you arrive at Cardinal Thorn's house and sign a contract. Then I don't know anything else.
And 6 people! The more the merrier!

Throwing my hat in the ring. Thinking of a rogue, likely a killer for hire or something along those lines(maybe changed later). Unsure as for race, but thinking teifling. As for the questionnaire...

3. I want to try my hand with an evil character, break the paradigm so to speak.
4. Keep the posts simple, direct and on point. Try no to get verbose when talking in character.
5. See #3.

1. Your experience with the rules
Have been role playing since I was 8, 25 years now. I have played pathfinder since its conception and have a vast knowledge and high system mastery.
2. Your experience with PbP
I started 3 years ago. I am in 10 games now. Though It looks like 3 of them may be going away. I work in IT so have no trouble posting or keeping up with games. It feels my free time at work.
3. Expectations for playing and what you want out of the experience
I wish others could post as much as me, but I know from other games that it's not possible. A game that I tell my friends about when we get together to play is nice. Way of the wicked tells and awesome story. I'm just looking for those willing to complete the ride.
4. Philosophy as a PbP player
Post as often as needed in the game. Keep the pace moving even if others are dragging behind. This is a game. We all have invested time and its unfair to others to have to wait on me. I have a wife and family so I get it. I don't post much on the weekends as its family time and I don't sit in front of the computer much b/c I do that for a job, but if we are in a combat I will check in and keep things moving. I try and make sure others are having fun and enjoying the game and hope that I'm one of the reasons why.
5. Why you are applying to this game?
The story is super sweet from what I have played of it. I like the challenge of it. It gives me the chance to explore more adult themed and dark roles. I think evil done well often brings the party closer than a good aligned group. The us against the world mentality is very fun.
6. Define what you think good role-playing is in PbP.
Tough question to answer. Everyone plays a little different. I don't want to lable anyone as bad, b/c they do it differnt then me. Having fun with your character is the most important part I think. Thats what keeps you posting. Its a ballance that each person needs to find.
7. What is your experience with this adventure path?
In real life I have completed the first two books, though that was when it came out two years ago. I have broke out of Brandiscar three times. Three of my PBP games are WoTW now. One is in book 2 that I joined when they lost players and the other Two are in book one still. I would love to be in a well paced game and finally learn what happens in the the other books. I'm a very mature player and like to think I don't metagame. If you feel that I am please call me on it.
I will use the house rule. The AP was made for 4 players and will take adjustment for you if we do 6, though since its PBP I like 6 so when we lose one or two wich we will. We can keep going while we recruit more.
I usually favor martial types. I think I will do a Tiefling Ranger. Father is a soldier, raised to be a soldier. People turned against him when his heritage became known. He was even force out by his family to live on the streets or wilderness. He became a bandit. Crime may be treason. Raiding military supplies and selling/tradin them ot he Orcs/Goblins beyond the wall.

Having thought about it more, I think that I will submit a Human Oracle(Heavens) with the Blackened Hands or Legalistic curse. I would love the Dual Cursed archetype, but the replacement spells at low levels replace some of the most important spells for the Mystery.
Background, may vary dependent upon the curse, is a sickly child who loved to read and study. He would take out books from any source, temples, libraries, civic centers, etc, and read continuously. Because of this, he was frequently picked on by the other youths, he was called names and generally abused as bully children are frequently want to do. Eventually, his studies lead him to discover the darker gods, specifically Asmodeus and some of the other dukes of hell.
He went to school and became a barrister. However, the insults and abuse from many who he had grown up with continued. At some point, this is where the curses would come in, the abuse lead to him becoming injured and finding true salvation in the First.
Unsure about the exact Campaign Trait, although extortion or something of that sort is a strong possibility.
--> I will greatly expand upon this. Usually, my backgrounds, as can be seen from most of my other aliases, are much more in depth, which requires more time than I have today.

On the 10-min background, do you want us to answer the list the same way as Phase One, or provide a backstory in the form of detailed paragraphs, answering the requests on the list? I assume the latter.
Correct, the 10 minute background should be in story format with all the questions answered.
@ Etna Agnes and Ashe
I have received your Phase One applications and they are complete.
@ grimdog73
I have received your Phase One application and I still need a vote for 4 or 6 players for it to be complete.
@Vrog Skyreaver
I have received your Phase One application, I am missing a race for your concept ninja, I also need a vote on 4 or 6 players.
I have received your Phase Two application, I am missing the 10 minte background, please prepare a background for the character that answers all the 10-minute background questions.
