Haru of the Tanuki |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

The dust settles as your small canvas covered wagon comes to a rest at the top of a small hill. Below you lies Kikowa, a quiet rural village in the middle of nowhere... which is actually quite the metaphor for your current situation. Homeless, Jobless, Penniless... not a fine way to live your life you might say.
In fact, if you hadn't met Haru of the Tanuki you'd probably be dead by now. The little guy took pity on you and offered you a ride to his hometown. Surprised, more so by the fact that a drunken Tanuki was offering you a wagon ride than by this opportunity, you decided to join in.
"I can't say it's much, but anyone can start from scratch here."The Tanuki waves you off his wagon. "I need to make it to the Shrine by nightfall so I best be going. Before I forget though, here's a little something to help you." Haru hands you a small sack. "Don't open it in front of me. It'd be quite rude. Now, I must be off but come stop by the Shrine when you have the time. Sayonara my friends." And with that, the Tanuki is off.

This Campaign is much more Roleplay oriented than my other recruitment. I am only looking for 2 players interested in spending time exploring and making a living in the rural town of Kikowa. You can develop your character as you want, meet the people and start a business. Perhaps you'll become a famous blacksmith? Marry the beautiful daughter of the village chieftain? Who knows.

Here is the character I would like to submit for your consideration.
Jiang Li Fang
A slave of the hobgoblin empire Kaoling Li Fang has lived a life of misery and toil. The hobgoblin overseer of the farm where Li Fang lived noticed how strong Li Fang had become, and thinking to curry favor with his superiors, ordered him trained to be a gladiator for the arena in the district capital. Li Fang was turned over to an old hobgoblin sergeant for training. The sergeant didn't know anything about gladiatorial combat so taught Li Fang what he knew which was how to fight like a soldier. When the farm overseer felt Li Fang had been trained enough he sent him to the district capital. It was on the way to the district capital that Li Fang finally got a chance to escape. He took it killing one of his guards and running. He managed to make it to the Lingshen border just barely a head of his pursuers. He has since been traveling trying to put as much distance between him and Kaoling as possible.
5' 6" with black hair and black eyes. He would be fairly good looking young man if it weren't for the crude tattoos that marked him as a slave in Kaoling. His clothing is worn and fraying at the edges. It is the same simple clothing that peasants all over Tien Xia wear.

Interesting idea for a game... I am unused to a game based on character development, so I am curious as to what spurred you to want to create such a game.
On another note, why 2 players? Should they know each other? Seems to me like they could barely interact with each other if their only goal is to develop in the town.

Haru of the Tanuki |

I'm starting with two characters because I don't want an army of characters running around. With two main characters, perhaps three maximum so that I can easily keep track of where/what players are doing.
And honestly, the idea of just having a couple players exploring life in a rural asian village seemed interesting. Also, there's a Tanuki as their main ally.
There is still some combat but it's very story based.

Changed my mind again! For good, this time. I'm going to submit a Bard (Archaeologist) character with sort of an Indiana Jones-esque feel to him. Would that be alright, Haru? Also, you said that the story will be taking place in Minkai, but is it alright if the characters came from elsewhere, such as the Inner Sea?

Character submission:
Even as a child, Gideon Ross was deeply interested in exploration and investigation, particularly of ancient civilizations. His mother and father, both explorers in their own right, often regaled him with tales of how they'd been all over the world, particularly the region of Minkai, where they'd spent a great deal of time when they were younger. He spent much of his time then daydreaming about how great it would be to explore the country himself, studying the region and it's inhabitants, learning to speak Minkaian, educating himself as much as he could in both exploration and how to defend oneself while exploring.
Scrimping and saving every penny he had, he was finally able to buy passage on a caravan crossing the Crown of the World to Tian Xia; it took every cent that he had to his name, but he didn't care. The thought of exploring the part of the world he'd spent most of his life dreaming about was too great an opportunity to pass up. Unfortunately, the ramifications of spending all his money on the transport didn't occur to him at the time.
After arriving, he found himself penniless, ultimately depending on the good graces of one of the locals, a curious creature he'd read of previously called a Tanuki. He was overjoyed to meet him, of course, and incredibly grateful for his help. Learning his name was Haru, the Tanuki said he would give him a lift to a small village near his shrine, a placed called Kikowa.
Upon being dropped off, he gave his word that he would visit Haru at the shrine. As he rode off, Gideon drew in a slow, deep breath, staring at the village below him before slowly walking down the path to Kikowa.

Won Hung Lo was born in a time of plenty, and his birth was viewed as a blessing to the village. His life has been blessed and his skills great. His parents were poor farmers, working the rice paddies and small vegetable garden of their farm. Their land was also contained a small clay deposit on the edge of the stream which fed their paddies. As a youth, Won Hung Lo use to play in this 'mud', creating many small figures out of clay. He would leave them to dry and the following day would take them to the village and give them to the other children as gifts. His skill grew as he moved from small figures to more utilitarian items, like jars, water bottles and pots. He would also mend broken pottery, taking the shattered pieces and fitting them back together so that none could see the breaks or cracks. It was almost magical!
While still a young man, a wandering priest came to the village. A follower of Kofusachi, he stayed with the young Won Hung Lo for a number of months, teaching him the tenants of the god of joy and prosperity. So impressed was Won Hung Lo that he followed the travelling priest back to his monastery and took vows to become a wondering cleric himself. He still practiced his skills with pottery, but now for the greater glory of Kofusachi.
So it has been several months since he left the monastery, and it was by chance that the Tanuki can across him, resting at the side of the road. He was more than happy to join the fellow and travel with him to this small village, so much like his home.

Finally appearance..
Won Hung Lo is a large man, perhaps not in height, but certainly in girth. He is usually clothed in the tan robes of his order, tied around the waist with a golden-yellow sash. About his neck sits the holy symbol of his god, a leather thong with 7 coins threaded upon it. A simple straw Jingsa keeps his hairless head from burning in the harsh sunlight, and light leather sandals cover his feet. The only other item he carries, is a short staff (bo staff)which he uses to walk with, or occasionally swat a pesky villager.
