Game Master GM-Gathrix

Journey to Sovyrian, the ancient home of the elves.

The book is People of the Stars

Okay, here he is. Completed character.

I almost never play elves but this seems interesting.

Actually, I think I'll see if I can put a Monk together instead of a wizard, seeing as how most of the submissions are wizards...

I was thinking perhaps a Magus (Kensai/Eldritch Archer) for flavor.

Isn't Eldritch Archer from Heroes of the Streets?

And Magus (Spell Dancer) was my second idea. Then Magus (Eldritch Archer.)

If Ultimate Combat were allowed, possibly a Paladin (Divine Hunter.)

And.. Just to actually represent the Elf's iconic/named weapon in PF, a Fighter (Two-Weapon Fighter) specializing in the Elven Curve Blade.

But, yes. Wizard it is.

I have noticed the High Trait is popular ha, don't blame you being "screened" by ethnocentric Elves is a bit unnerving.

For me it's mostly that the other non-restricted ones just don't quite fit the character vision. If it weren't Ancient Lorekeeper only, I'd probably go with Ancestral Lore instead because of his focus on wanting to know everything. Not being ostracized certainly doesn't hurt, though :P

Yeah I really think the Ancient Lorekeeper is perfect for this campaign so I made that trait specific, also fits as those secrets would be closely guarded.

Averadlon:
Looks decent, I think Winter Council Acolyte would fit your concept more than High Elf campaign trait.

Theodemar is updated; and nearly done. I still need to do purchases. I've been writing his backstory on a word document, and it is nearly done. I'll paste it into his sheet today or tomorrow.

Other than fluff, background skills, and a campaign specific trait my character should be good to go. If you have time Gathrix can you take a look and let me know what you think?

I should also be all done. Updated my Traits properly, and edited background to explain all of them.

Official PRD A lot of people are coming up with some odd material found on other websites. The above link is the official PRD and you can find all of the approved sources for this campaign there with the exception of the Inner Sea World Guide.

Faunra:
Looks good so far keep it up.

Vesryn:
Eyes and Ears of the City is not from an approved source, but given your character concept I would allow it.

@Gathrix-
Apologies! And also thanks. I'm doing this all on my phone so trying to keep track of the sources using only the SRD is a pain :/

If you use Archives of Nethys website it has ISWG and nearly everything else paizo published. It's what I used to find my Sovyrian trait :)

My background is gonna change to better fit that I changed to Ancient Lorekeeper trait. Update coming soon-ish. Any other input would be appreciated if you wish to dole out :)

lol is first page, bottom ish of the page.

GM-Gathrix:

Long Reply:
Okay, so basically I flip-flopped back and forth between High Elf and Winter Council Acolyte for awhile before deciding on the former. My reasoning is as follows. Note that it's based largely on PF canon lore that you may or may not have altered for your game, so if anything differs point it out, since that might well affect my rationale!

While the Winter Council wasn't always a super secret society (as it is depicted in the Second Darkness Adventure Path), it seems like it always employed a bird's eye view/chess game tactic. They established a top secret, nearly impenetrable tower base in the middle of the Fierani Forest rather than in/near a major settlement. They DID take a direct interest in the Azlanti, but accomplished their investigations by establishing a satellite organization – the Elves of the Mordant Spire. It was the Mordant Spire Elves who started to “feel out” the Azlanti, which later turned to outright spying for purposes of a preemptive attack if necessary. The Mordant Elven diviners used their gathered information to predict Earthfall, and then told the Winter Council. This is what prompted the Council to convince almost all Elves to retreat to Sovyrion.

Additionally, I was more or less equating the High Elves with the Gray Elves of D&D Pathfinder publications. While the stats obviously aren't reflected any with the current system I believe the older “fluff” still holds as canon. If I recall correctly, the Elves of Sovyrion were originally stated to be Gray Elves (or maybe its leaders.) Since the Gray Elves of Kyonin were written to primarily be of Noble lineage, with the Winter Council being made up almost entirely of Nobles and its Noble pawns, I kind of folded that into my character's background.

Does that all make sense? Even if it does, and you still think strongly I should change the Trait, cool with me. :)

Averadlon:
That is fine. I based this idea on the Pathfinder Wiki that made the early Winter Council out to be more of a diplomatic envoy than a secret society. I plan on illustrating their rise to power in Sovyrian and give an idea as to why they may behave the way they do now based on the events that will take place during this campaign.

Cool cool! The Winter Council has actually been one of my pet infatuations in the game for some time. Heh.

This is the character I would like to submit... if there's room that is... seems your getting lots of interest.

Should be fixed! I took a drawback that I think fits perfectly, it's on the SRD. I think it's from Champions of Corruption, it's called Foul Brand.

I also added Spells Known!

Sooooo....I think I may have just copy pasted the completely wrong character and then saved it. (maeglin starcaller)

So I have to rebuild and rewrite from memory.

Fml.

Fixed it. Sooooo annoyed. That was dumb of me.

This is a list of those who submitted a character so far. If I missed you let me know I tried to catch everyone. There are others that talked about a concept, but have not submitted yet. April 2nd is the deadline.

Faunra-Bard
Vasryn-Fighter
Aeryaviel-Ancient Lorekeeper
Aodhan-Cleric(Mystic Theruge)
Theodemar-Wizard
Raina-Ancient Lorekeeper
Averadlon-Wizard
Elrinides-Spell Dancer(I will give you some feedback on this soon)

This is the profile for Browman's druid. Still in progress but the basics are there.

I will make an alias for my animal companion if selected. Rex is a T-rex animal companion.

Homebrew campaigns are always some of the most interesting. And one that explores ancient history? Count me in!

GM Gathrix, I see that there are a couple of role restrictions on the kinds of elves allowed to pass through. Half-elves and evil elves are explicitly left behind. What about Forlorn? If allowed, I'm contemplating a Forlorn elf with the High Elf trait returning to Kyonin to escape the Starfall. While they were ostracized by their fellows from Golarion, they find new acceptance among the elves of Sovyrian.

He didn't mention the Forlorn probably because the first Forlorn came after this very event, actually.

Forlorn Link 1

Forlon Link 2

The More You Know!

Wow! Thanks for the background info; somehow I never picked up on that. I'll come up with something else, then.

I get it; I actually only know that because I was researching this very premise for this very submission!

Exactly, good question though others might have had it. This incident is what caused the forlorn and also the Winter Council's rise to power. In this time the Winter Council is a group of elders that are basically diplomats. We are going to explore what events caused this organization to become so powerful and secret.

Looks like a good start. I did not see any traits, have you considered what campaign trait you would pick? Native by Nature seems an obvious one, but I know High Elf is on a lot of lists. I worry a little that no knowledge skills will be passed for some time, but that is what it is to be on a new planet I guess.

My campaign trait will be native be nature. I should have traits and gear sorted out later today.

Background:
Born to be an heir for the Genthyra house Lanliss was always an oddball in his family and was regularly the Black sheep. Instead of pursuing magic and swordplay with his siblings he instead pursued alchemy. It was as a child that he played with chemicals and eventually found combinations that emulated the magical effects he was seeing around him. Instead of studying hard in spellbooks Lanliss worked through chemistry and the nature of the universe to pursue the esoteric and strange. With explosions coming from his living quarters on a more and more regular basis his parents threw him into the wild to fend for himself. He happily did. It was out in nature that he started gathering rarer and stranger ingredients for his stronger and stronger extracts and potions. Using a natural area he could create sticky bags, find natural cures for ailments and find ingrediants to make himself faster.

It was only when a retainer of his parents found him that he went home. There he learned of the deaths of his siblings in what was being called The Barbarian Wars. Saddened by the news he stayed to console his grieving parents. It was later that same year that Lanliss’ mother passed away, dying of a broken heart and with blood on her mind for the barbarians that killed her children. Lanliss’ father, Pelleus, clutched Lanliss to his heart harder than ever, becoming a shadow never far from Lanliss himself. When news of the Starstone impact reached the Genthyra lands and the planned escape using the Sovyrian Stone to get to Castrovel Pelleus became single-minded of a new goal, get Lanliss back to Sovyrian to continue the Genthyra line. This led to the purchasing of much equipment, old and new to protect Lanliss and make sure he made it to the otherside ready to make a new life for himself.

Lanliss was sad that his father insisted on staying where his wife and other children died, but promised to make a good life for himself on the other side. Once he was convinced of the rightness of this path Lanliss could not contain himself thinking of a whole new world, with new ingredients and concoctions to create. Gathering all of the gear Pelleus so painstakingly gathered for Lanliss stepped through the Aiudara and into Sovyrian.
.

Goals:
I always like my characters to have at least 2 goals
  • To gather new materials and discover how they can be applied in alchemy
  • To find a wife or a way to advance the name of Genthyra

This is very interesting to me...have to see if I can think up a solid submission.

I'll be back!

Dotting in. First thought is a middle aged Elf, a former military man, and after a lengthy career as a scout for the military, turned himself to the Winter Council. Thinking a rogue, maybe an inquisitor.

Has Magus from Ultimate Magic been tentatively approved? Or is that a case-by-case basis situation?

GM what is your feeling on elven martial traditions? The official sources don't have much in the way of fluff for elven fighters besides archery. Are we free to make up our own?

Unfortunately, due to a combination of not finding a character concept I was truly happy with and wanting to keep my campaign workload the way it is, I'm going to bow out of this.

Here's hoping the rest of you have fun. :)

The Spelldancer Archetype from the ARG is approved, but others are a case by case.

A lot of traditions are being formed at this time, and that is something I want to develop with the group. You will all be seen as unrefined and barbaric in your ways, some of you will want to retain some of that some of you will want to become more orderly as the Sovyrians. As such you have a bit of artistic freedom as to what your traditions were before you entered Sovyrian. The only real piece of history I got from the internet research I did was that there was constant battles with the Barbarians of the North.

The Sovyrians do have a lot of traditions that I have created, though I recently picked up a few new supplements that I intend to pour over and I might refine some things. Those traditions are largely unknown to you, with the possible exception of the Ancient Lorekeepers.

@Drahzar looks good, nice to have some nature types
@Lanliss I have not detail looked at your submission, but I like the idea of wanting to further your name and being a Sole Heir I think that makes sense.

Updated who has entered in a character

Faunra-Bard
Vasryn-Fighter
Aeryaviel-Ancient Lorekeeper
Aodhan-Cleric(Mystic Theruge)
Theodemar-Wizard
Raina-Ancient Lorekeeper
Averadlon-Wizard
Elrinides-Spell Dancer(I will give you some feedback on this soon)
Drahzar-Druid
Lanliss-Alchemist

Few more with concepts not yet submitted.

Elrinides:
this was a while coming apologies. It looks good, the background is short but sweet. Glad to see a spell dancer in the mix.

You know what I should do? Make some Elven spells.

... Yep.

Oh, and, as far as leveling up rules will go - do we roll for HP at each new level or take the average?

I do full hit points. It makes everyone a bit more survivable and lets the healer focus a bit on combat rather than just having to channel or heal on their turn.

Cool!

Redid my character's backstory. I just have a few things to buy and figure out, but otherwise I am all set to be judged :)

I believe Theodemar is all done, except for his purchases, and I want to add a little more to his backstory. I may not have purchases done by tomorrow. Otherwise, he's complete.

Great well 24 hours before selection begins. Game should be up early April 3rd (very early I work grave yard shift with access to a computer so around 3 am MST)

Ok the following people please report to discussion. I wish I could take you all, but 6 I think is a good limit and gives us a bit of room in case someone can't post for some reason.

If your name is not here, I really appreciated your submission and if something happens where someone needs to drop out I would love to call you in as a replacement.

Drahzar-Druid
Vasryn-Fighter
Aodhan-Cleric
Elrinides-Spell Dancer
Raina-Ancient Lorekeeper
Averadlon-Wizard
