Just a little taste of what we've been doing - current investigation brought us face to face with A certain devil
I thought that was pretty cool, really appreciate the effort you put in JZ.

Sweet! That means I'll be able to get the tough as nails boon instead. Alright, Garent'heymo'nesba'vasriel is almost done as far as his character build goes. From there I'll add a bit more to his backstory to show what he was doing before getting to earth and so on and so forth.
Oh, yes, I do have a question for you! There is a feat called... http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/bat-shape/. It's a racial feat for the chassis I built the 'Dragon' race from. Would I be allowed to take it and refluff it? Mechanically it would work the same, changing him into a tiny creature with decent flight. However, instead of describing him changing into a tiny bat, he'd change into a tiny drake. Mechanically still the same tiny bat but different fluff wise. I planned to play it as a... 'this is his true form' sort of deal.

Anthony Foundling |

Here is Sir Gabriel, ready and done. As fascinating as the Shifting was I decided to remove the thing and make him a straight Humanoid (Dragon). Mechanically, I think this means he should qualify as a dragon for anyone that has it as their favored enemy, since it is something I made up for the game. I also ended up changing the concept a little too. He is a dragon, but he is a pretty young dragon, and the reason why he's got the form he does is explained in the description!
I also found and then fell in love with the Barbarian Archetype called the Savage Technologist. The mechanics basically mean he can melee with one hand and shoot with the other while in melee, though only while raging.
I calculated the resources a character with his charisma would have and apparently I have enough bank to get a few good things, so the equipment list will probably grow a bit as I look things up.
Oh, and finally did the math on just how much 'super strength' he has while raging. It doesn't give any bonus to damage or the like but out of combat, dealing with walls or lifting heavy crap, he can lift about 2 metric tons as his max load, nearly 4 metric tons off the ground and push/pull 9 metric tons. It's not Thor or Hulk strength but he can lift up small cars... for about 48 seconds a day. I think that's just plain fun.
Dragons are immense, majestic, powerful creatures! Their young, however, are not. When a Dragon is younger then a century they have not even the simplest of abilities, such as their breath weapon, to defend them. In many cases Dragons change their young to a humanoid form so that they might better protect themselves. This form is typically stronger then the race it copies as even the youngest dragon has great magical potential that leaks through the spells bindings. Below is but a single permutation of what a Dragon Hatchling may appear as.
Ability Score Racial Traits: +2 Strength, +2 Charisma Dragons are strong, majestic creatures who are born with inherent powers tied to that majesty. (2 RP)
Size: 'Dragons' are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Type: 'Dragons' are humanoids with the Dragon Subtype
Base Speed: Dragon's have a base speed of 30 feet
Fly Speed: Dragon's have a fly speed of 30 feet (Clumsy) when they are young and in their mortal guise. (4 RP)
Languages: Dragon's speak Common. With high Intelligence scores can choose any languages they want (except secret languages, such as Druidic).
Feat and Skill Racial Traits
Natural Armor +1 Dragons have a tougher hide then some creatures. It is hard to spot but one can see that some of the more vital spots are protected by a light layer of scales. This is likely to grow stronger the older the dragon is. (2 RP)
Lucky Younger dragons do not have the full immunities that their elders do but they still have some natural resistances to dangers. (4 RP)
Racial Feat- True Form
Able to switch between the Humanoid (Dragon) form and the form of a tiny, immature dragon as a standard action. The tiny form acts as if you were changing into a Tiny Bat using Beast Shape II.
Normal: Unable to shapeshift without the help of an elder dragon.
Total 12 RP
I couldn't find anything saying if there was a cost to gain access to a racial feat. It seems very thematic to me so I refluffed the Bat Shape feat I was talking about. I asked in the post above so this isn't me asking again, just describing everything on the profile so there's no confusion. If it doesn't work I can think of something else.

Daedalus the Dungeon Builder |

I'm just going to clarify that my last question was intended as a sort of "summoner, but not really," as I liked the idea of a mystic creating a suit of energy armor around themselves (i.e. synthesyst summoner), but didn't want to bog down the gameplay if I decided to ever use my SLA. But, if like you said, a Synthesist gestalt is too intimidating, I'll go with a different idea.

ElegantlyWasted |

ElegantlyWasted wrote:I would also ask if you'd consider a Synthesist Summoner because I'd love to play a person bonded to a symbiote :pA gestalt synthesist scares the bejeezes out of me.
I'm sure the same concept could be pulled off in fluff with Called Armour or something and then I don't have to worry about ten attacks a round.
Fair.
And, c'mon, they only get, like, five...at full BAB...with free Trips...and crazy movement...and flying...and DPR easily in the hundreds...and AC in the 40s...and are still 6th-level casters...What's broken about that? :p

ElegantlyWasted wrote:Would building an Asgardian as an extra-terrestrial be cool? Obviously they wouldn't be nearly Thor-level in power, but it was a thought I had.No problem with that, that's exactly where my thinking was for this type of thing. Thor would be an Asgardian race (whatever that is) with about 18 levels in Oracle/Barbarian (not saying that's actually what he is in the game, or even that he will appear in the game - just an example)
That was nearly exactly what was in my head for him :p
The Asgardian gods are so varied that there's a lot of options, though, and I can think of several builds that would fit this pretty well...I'll whip something up over the weekend.

A DM with a good posting record, and an interesting proposal? Sounds great. I skimmed over the document a of couple of times.
My first idea is for a minor "demon" (in the Marvel sense of the word) who is trapped on Earth. His name is Valefar and he's got a thing for thievery, and tempting others to thievery. Race wise he's probably an Extra-terrestrial. I want to mimic the caligni race, but I don't know how many race points it is. I'd love to improve the race by getting rid of light sensitivity or adding another racial feature if there are enough points to do so. His classes would probably be ninja and telekeneticist. His boon would probably physical perfection 2.
I think he'd be staking out the bank to rob himself, when the robbery goes down. He flees the scene and is caught by your two Shield people, thinking he might be an accomplice. He talks his way out of it, and meets the other PCs. What do you think, GM-JZ?
Hey Jelani, good to hear from you.
Seems like a cool concept. Out of interest, what are you getting thematically from the Caligni that you dont get from, say, a Teifling?

You mentioned this was kind of a blend of the cinematic and comic universes. Are Asgardians aliens or gods? That's mostly for my backstory

Aliens who were once worshipped as gods

M. Arillius |

Makes sense! We're talking scales and the like or tough skin. I think I will change the Boon to something else then. I like Incredible Mettle a lot.
That'd be an interesting feat for the game mechanic though.
'Bullet Proof Hide'
Prerequisite: Natural Armor +1 or higher
Natural Armor counts toward Ballistic AC.
Especially useful for beings who rely on thick skins rather then armor. I could see Hulk types and Luke Cage types using it, since they're all about Nat Armor.

M. Arillius |

Okay, I made an assumption yesterday, but I think I should make sure since it's relevant to the last question I asked involving resource points. Resource points are like Prestige Points. When you increase your Fame, you get Prestige Points. Does this mean that when you create a character who starts with 5 Fame (lvl 2 + 3 charisma), they start with 5 Resource Points? Again apologies for all the questions.

During his rage, he is also faster, gaining an additional 10ft. to his base landspeed during the period of the rage.)

Alright I think I know what I want to create :) I am thinking of creating a Lex Luther inspired Metamind. A seemingly normal human with a forceful personality and iron will. He is someone who can control the situation and people around him for his own purposes. When properly channeled he can be a great party support as he enables those around him and hinders his foes.
Are Occult classes allowed? This would be my first time playing one.
He will be a Mesmerist//Ringleader Bard.
He will be a human with strong Chrisma, good Int but only a "normal" humans physical capabilities. He will also have the Silver Tongue racial trait.
As for boons, he will have Strong Mind as his mind is an iron fortress and Trust Fund because I like the idea of him having black market connections :)
However I am not really sure about his feats. Maybe Spell Focus: Enchantment and Lingering Preformance?
Why Bard?
Well Bard will give me lots of skills, lots of Knowledge, party buffs and some neat mental powers(spells).
Why Ringleader?
I can make plans! The plans are nebulous and may or may not be useful but I really like the flavour of it :)
Why Mesmerist?
I get mental powers. I can also focus my will on those around me to significant effect, either staring my foes down or planting hidden buffs within my allies psyche. And it gives me an even more indomitable will.
Why Rich Human?
Well he is based off of Lex Luthor but mostly he is human because I have a hard time getting into the mindset of non-humans and I would Imagine that such a driven individual (especially with an equally driven father) would press on until he suceeded and then reach further beyond.
welp! Thats my idea, now I will have to develop it further :)

fbdaury |

In addition, now that he had the ‘key’ to unlocking human enhancement, he started to also create other extracts that could perform interesting changes on the human body. But the crowning achievement of his research are his mutagens- capable of even further enhancing his physical abilities while also unlocking savage natural weapons within himself. Using these combined breakthroughs, he started to hit the streets in a covert war on small-time criminals as a test of his abilities. His SHIELD superiors have now discovered his extra-curricular activities and are not pleased.

Gavmania |

OK, I have completed the crunch for my superhero, Shift.
I see his powers stemming from his Mutant ability to access another dimension which is connected to our dimension yet has no dimensions of its own (its a singularity) meaning that when exiting that dimension, he can (theoretically) exit anywhere, though in practice it is currently limited to his grasp of dimensional space in our universe (10'). Also he has not yet learned how to take others with him.
As a singularity, all the potential of our existing universe exists at this one point, and he can access it by Shifting (opening a small portal to the X-Dimension) and tapping into it. So far, he has isolated electricity (Shocking grasp) and snow (frostbite). He can also shift to protect himself from incoming attacks, both passively (Mage Armor) and actively (Shield)
As part of his background, he was School Fencing Champion and has maintained his interest in this, making the rapier his preferred weapon; he can enhance it with some of the power of his Shifts (Spellstrike).
In addition, he seems to have an uncanny grasp of 3 dimensional space, giving him a distinct advantage in terms of attacking when on the ball (Arcane Pool).
Question: Do we adhere to the limited uses normally required of class abilities (so 2 1st level spells/day for Magus, 2 for Arcanist, 4 Arcane Reservoir, 5 Arcane Pool) or can we continue to use the powers therein all day long (so long as we take time to renew them)? I'm happy either way, it just seems more heroic somehow if we can keep using our powers; not sure if that would make us overpowered though.

GM-JZ |

I get what you're saying about all day powers, but from a balance perspective I've got to keep it limited to the number of times per day intended.
I figure it would be extremely taxing to tap into the X-Dimension when you are (relatively) inexperienced at doing so. As you'd gain levels and power your mastery of it would increase and you could tap into it more times per day.

Gavmania |

Thought so. Just a bit disappointed that I can only Dimensional Slide 4/day (5 if I consume a spell slot) and it's only 10' (though that's my fault for only taking 1 level of arcanist). Would it be ok if he had unlimited uses out of combat; it should have no effect on gameplay (and unless he is pushing himself - as in combat- he would be limited to a cruising speed similar to someone jogging, so would give him no real advantage other than flavour)

Gavmania |

Just thought, Magus and Arcanist both get 2 x 1st level spells, so I assumed that was how many times they can cast them, but presumably if they are following the spontaneous system they would get a number and amount/day as a sorcerer and bard, is that correct? so I would know 2 x 1st level spells for the arcanist and be able to cast 4/day (3+Bonus spell) and I would know 2x 1st level spells as a kensai and be able to cast 1/day?
Edit: That should be know 3 and cast 2 for the kensai

I talked with my players and decided to let players pick whether they wanted to be a prepared or spontaneous chassis. Arcanist is the one class that puts a spanner in the works for that but yes that seems right
I would go with spontaneous. personally, I prefer it (except for issues with Metamagic), and thematically I see superheros as having a few powers they can use often rather than many powers they can change when given enough time. That may be different for some characters (e.g. a character with a utility belt might want the option of being able to change their spells (powers) to represent different tools/items on the utility belt - so fireball one day (grenade), Fly the next (Rocket Booster)).
I'll adjust SHIFT, and write up the background

Took a while to find an idea that I liked and yet fit, but I think I have one. Thinking of an oracle mix with the metal revelation. Character wold have the power to shape steel around him. Still need to work with which class to mix, but at least I have my idea forming! We have till around Thur, right? I'll be able to get him up before then.

I've been reading Worm, so I'm psyched for superhero stuff, and this seems like a prime opportunity to join the boards besides.
I'll think on what to do. Maybe something with teleportation? That's a classic.
Alternatively, maybe something with super-science. That could be an item-crafter.
Edit: I saw mention of Path of War at a few places - does that mean that this material is available for use? That lends itself to some interesting options. The document mentions it, but doesn't specifically call it out as available for use.
While at it, how about psionics from Dreamscarred Press?
If Path of War is a thing, I have an idea: a character who has a watch that can store time, and expend it to do stuff like moving quickly, or slowing down enemies.
I dunno what to do with the other side of things.

I know it's a lot to go back through, but discussions have basically been that any third party content wouldn't be allowed for this recruitment.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with :)

Hi Blue Drake, sounds like a cool concept and seems like lots of different ways you could go with the second class.
I am planning on closing recruitment on Friday 24th February
The only exception to this would be if I get a sudden influx of questions that mean people need a little more time to work out their builds in which case I'd extend it a day or two.

Aww, that's a shame. My two immediate ideas were
1) Rain Woman/Groundhog Guy/(The) Watcher/whatever awful time pun I'd settle on;
her whole deal is that she can control time... within limits. She'd be a Harbinger of PoW, and her central mechanic would be the Riven Hourglass discipline. Might or might not have some secret agent/ex-military skills too, that was in development. Either way she could save up time to move faster, steal time from enemies, and generally do interesting stuff. At higher levels she'd even have been able to walk through walls by tapping into alternate timelines where the walls weren't there. Had a bit of an assumed persona with theathrics, one-liners and the like.
2) A Telepath;
In the tradition of Jean Grey and Professor X, a standard Psion build. Dunno what I'd have done with the other side though.
I'll have to come up with something else. Not really sure what to do. I could build the Hulk or Daredevil or Cpt. America fairly easily, but that's not fun when we're in their universes already.
Maybe a teenage medium? But speak with dead is level 3, so meh.
I'll go on thinking.
Edit: I've read the campaign document, and a bit of the gameplay thread, and one thing I noted is that there aren't really any remarks on classes, which are allowed, what has been changed and so on. Is there somewhere else I should look for this?

Hey, quick question about choosing a race. In the Mutant/Alien race section, you talk about advanced and monstrous races. Are we allowed to choose something like Trox instead of making our own race? Or if I choose Kasatha, that means I'm classified as a mutant?
Looking to make a hero with multiple arms, and trying to figure out what the rules are.
Also, what RPs/equipment do we start with?
I have a few tentative concepts, mostly based on heroes from the starcraft universe (Protoss/zerg). Seems like a fun campaign!

There are limited class changes save for the choice of whether to play your class with a prepared or spontaneous chassis

The races would be fine as extraterrestrials.
In terms of commonality it's humans > mutants > ETs
Don't worry about starting equipment too much, we can discuss that if/when selected but basically you are looking at 150gp worth of starting gear and 2 resource points at this stage (which equates to about 900gp worth)

Can we fluff away verbal and somatic components? 'spellcasting' in the classical sense is really messing with my ability to visualize any of the magic classes as superheroes.
I still want to try to see if I can't create a telepathic character, but if they have to speak loud nonsense and wave their hands around scarlet-witch style every time they read someone's thoughts, that's really going to cramp my style.

Absolutely yes.
I make reference to this in the doc. If you want to have a sorcerer who is fluffed as a tech hero and launches missiles from a shoulder-mounted launcher (Fireball) then go for it. It's a big part of grounding the game.
So you can do with components what you want.
The caveat to that is that all casting rules would still apply, i.e. you would provoke attacks of opportunity, it would still be loud and/visible in some way etc
