He extends his charred arms and the air accelerates around them, so much that they turn into flames. With a shout, the flames burst from his arms and fly towards the drow.
I've been meaning to shout this out. Good one, DW, this is some awesome imagery. I can totally see this being in a movie. :)
He rubs his charred arms, tempted for a moment to try a conjuration against the three-eyed cod, but Lothan's words, maybe only this once, sound like wisdom to him.
Lol! That's just greatness.
Oh wait! What I meant was: Hey! What's the big idea?! *Shakes fist* ;)

Speaking of facing powerful mages: Did we rest? I think not.
We have not rested. Kaerishiel, supposedly the top elf warrior around here, sometimes seems like a plot device to keep us moving quickly. He seems pretty incompetent in general. (Too late to help with the dragon things. This is the second time he's gotten himself captured.) Now Shalelu is getting in on that scene.
Iolar's about half down on her big spells. She's got lots of first and second level.

Description
An elemental gem comes in one of four different varieties. Each contains a conjuration spell attuned to a specific elemental plane (Air, Earth, Fire, or Water).
When the gem is crushed, smashed, or broken (a standard action), a Large elemental appears as if summoned by a summon nature's ally spell. The elemental is under the control of the creature that broke the gem.
The coloration of the gem varies with the type of elemental it summons. Air elemental gems are transparent, earth elemental gems are light brown, fire elemental gems are reddish orange, and water elemental gems are blue-green.

Yeah we stink at that completely. This is where a bruiser like Tyrrol would've come in real handy. Even without the ability to bypass DR, he could do enough damage to make a difference.
Seeing how it seems to be marginally hurt, I'd guess it has DR 10. So with that being said, I could hit this demon with every arrow and barely do squat. Basically a d8's worth seeing how my bonus damage is 10. That's why I was hoping to confirm that crit with one of those arrows earlier. That's the only way I'm gonna be able to really hurt it.

[ooc] And really, when did Lothan ever take 2 rounds to buff! :-D
Absolutely never. I 99.9% of the time NEVER do this. Like ever. Real life gaming or pbp. But considering the enemy, I figure I better give myself a chance to make a real difference.
And I know... 2 rounds of doing nothing and it's a dragon! Yeah, it truly is insane and I don't like wasting rounds casting. Desperate times and all that I guess. :)
Unfortunately I don't get Ranged Touch attacks like Zoltan gets. Which is so freaking awesome by the way. Man that is huge.
And we all know a dragon's touch AC is the worst in the business. A Gunslinger would be a dragon's bane for sure.

Man, you know I went through this part in RL many, many moons ago and we didn't even fight this guy. There was no way we could beat it. We had a monk, a fighter, a bard, and a ranger/rogue.
Practically no casters. And Alchemist didn't exist. Or Gunslingers(We wouldn't have run one of those anyway because we just don't feel they belong in the DnD world. It's too non-fantasy like. Personally, though, I've come to like 'em). :)
I gotta say, this shocks me. I'm totally NOT AT ALL use to such destruction to A DRAGON in such a short time. It is absolutely amazing how devastating a class can be that has offensive capabilities that involve touch attacks. I knew about the gunslinger because I run one but I would never have thought this would be possible. I truly thought we were gonna bite the dust in this one.
Shows what I know. :P

I absolutely agree. On the other hand, I've been in a mid-level campaign involving demons after demons, and the alchemist just left as he felt he wasn't able to do much since he had focused so much on fire damage...
But Vendrick's damage output is quite scary!

LilWilly5 |

Well my original plan was to do that to the demon but thanks to that I realized I could use the paragon surge extract to basically change the type of damage I do with the feat it grants. When I first started playing the alchemist class I didn't realize the damage output they could do I just liked the weird things I could do with them. (In a RL game made a four armed bat winged tentacled mummified bomb lobing half-elf. Looked like as evil as could be but was CG.) I'm mainly drawn to weird and interesting classes.
