Rameth the Delver |
So it would appear someone is down there. Who wants to go first? I will come down second
He puts his dagger back I to his wrist sheathe
Then he takes 10 on his climb check
Ealasaid of the Golden hair |
I´ll go first if people if you are afraid of it - I take 10 in the climb check, but I first take a good look of the place looking for whatever taht might be threat.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Rameth the Delver |
dont be a fool. Fear is irrelevant. It is smarter have someone who is prepared to smash any enemies we come across.
Rameth follows
DajellyMan |
so taking 10, Rameth gets a 13 and Ealasaid gets an 11
Peering down the rope, you can only see about 15 feet before the rope disappears amidst fog and darkness. You guys do notice, however, a couple things up on the cliff.
assuming naia takes 10 on survival
These footprints you see do no appear to be drow, or at least are not the same as te ones you followed along the road. They are much smaller, and appear goblinoid. The runes graffitied in the pillar, also appear to be goblin. The hastily covered remains of some small campfires can also be found scattered along the cliff top. They appear fairly old though.
Roland de Ridonport |
Roland will look around one more time before he attempts to descend the rope, making sure there is not immediate damager here.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Take 10 climb, 6.
Rameth the Delver |
Rameth steps to the fire dagger in one hand shield extract in the other.
Percep 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
He looks around as the others deacend
Darque Naia |
Naia seems untroubled by the new signs of other creatures
"Goblins too herein." is all she says. She prepares for a descent.
I thought Rameth went down after Ealasaid? Regardless, after stowing her weapons carefully Naia descends after Ealasiad (Rameth) and Roland. Take 10 Climb.
Rameth the Delver |
Yea Rameth went second
Rameth the Delver |
Rameth will light a torch and drop it over the edge so there is some light when they all get down
Rameth the Delver |
How far is it to the ground from the last platform?
Rameth the Delver |
anyone have some rope?
Rameth the Delver |
Rameth ties it off and climbs down take 10
Darque Naia |
Why am I the only one confused. ;) If Ealasaid went first, why isn't she using her rope to extend the cut rope - why is she passing it to Rameth? Also Dajelly your posts aren't always clear - are you being auto-corrected or something?
Naia follows down the rope.
Rameth the Delver |
I think that meant she was able to grab above the cut part. The assumption is that she climbed back up and we figured out what to do.
DajellyMan |
yeah sorry guys sometimes I post from my phone (as earlier today) and the stupid thing autocorrects me and I don't see it until it's too late to edit. I meant to say she grabs above the cut part of the rope.
Ok so you all go back up, re tie the rope, and head back down into the chasm. At the bottom of the rope a sandy ledge overlooks a subterranean gulf of darkness to the west. The ledge is wide but rough. Sand, rocky debris, and the bones of small animals cover it. A roughly hewn stairwell zigs and zags down the side of the ledge into darkness.
Even those of you with darkvision cannot see the far wall of the chasm or the bottom of the vault as it is too far either way.
DajellyMan |
The majority of these animal bones appear ancient, but if you bothered to tak a close look you would find a few more recent deaths. Mostly rats and small birds.
A torch would be very usefull, as you are soon to be far enough down to have absolutely no benefit from the sunlight coming in from the crack above.
Roland de Ridonport |
As the air is not yet fouled by any underground gases, gets out a torch and puts a small knot in the leather thong, and lights the torch.
"Are we ready to proceed?, asks as he readies his sword and board, and holds the torch in this shield hand.
If no one responds that to the negative, Roland will begin heading down the stairs.
Are the zig-zag layout of the stairs made up of large number of steps or less then 20 or so? If they are long runs, I would like to switch my shield to the opposite arm, so that the shield is always on the side of the open cavern.
Rameth the Delver |
Rameth dropped a kit torch down to the bottom a few posts up. He can pick it up when we all get down there
Rameth the Delver |
I dropped it to the bottom, I thought we were at the bottom now. I was confused In that case I will follow Ms. Sunrod, since I can't carry a torch and climb

you dropped it to the bottom from the top of the rope, correct? The rope ends at a platform in the edge of the cliff. This platform has stairs leading down to the bottom. I guess I got myself confused :x. So, either way you have light due to the sunrod. I just wanted to see if you actually wished to toss the torch down all the way.
Edit: thanks Roland! Thats a perfect map
Rameth the Delver |
I dropped it from the ledge where we are to the bottom
But it is light somewhere!
Rameth the Delver |
Well something is down there. Best be on our guard.
Rameth will head down second
Rameth the Delver |
Rameth will go second, as before.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 stealth
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 percep
Ealasaid of the Golden hair |
No point in being stealthy when you are the one carrying the light source. For now Ealasaid prefer to use heavy shield while she carry the sunrod in her other hand.
She goes in the front alongside whoever want to accompany her.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
EDIT: her AC is now 18.
DajellyMan |
As you all zig and zag down the stairs, everything get's progressively foggier and darker. As you are rounding about to head down the final stair set, Rameth stops you all.
Rameth, you hear a bit of shuffling down at the floor, and in the distance to the West, you can make out a faint, flickering light that was obscured by the mist from above. It would's seem there is a large band of small humanoid creatures around a large campfire. You cannot get a clear look at what they are, but you can guess they are not Drow, as Drow would have no need for the fire.
At the top of the last stair, you are all about 12-15' above the chasm floor.
Rameth the Delver |
shall I creep forward and see what or who they are?
Darque Naia |
Naia follows after Rameth, longsword and shortsword in hands.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 4 = 5
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
So these humanoids at the campfire away off in the fog - they a different mob who scattered from Rameth's torch, and they didn't notice the light or the scattering humanoids? Just checking...
DajellyMan |
They are quite a ways away from were the torch dropped, and the fog most likely prevented them from seeing it at all. If they heard it or if saw anything, they are not showing it. They seem preoccupied with something. Using your better judgment, you surmise that the group that scattered was most likely a scouting party or guards of some sort.
Darque Naia |
Naia chews her lip, watching the campfire.
"Let's watch them awhile. I'm curious why the first mob that ran haven't alerted the group by the fire. They may return with more of their friends, and we don't want to be in combat with the fire-sitters when reinforcements arrive. Or, we could try to clean them up before that happens. Or get them to fight each other. ;)"
DajellyMan |
Watching the group carefully you deduct the following:
It would appear a fairly large band of goblins are surrounding a Bon fire. One particular fat goblin is addressing the whole group, giving some sorta of speech. He seems to be in charge. Judging by their layout, you would say they havnt been camping here too long. A week or two at the most. From what you can tell, they havnt taken any notice of you.
Rameth the Delver |
Goblins are never good news. Two options. One we go in and eliminate them, or I can mix up an extract so that I can understand them. What do we think?
Rameth obviously is leaning towards the former option.
how large is a fairly large group?
Rameth the Delver |
hmm looks like more than we would like to fight. Shall I sneak forward and give a listen? I think so.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 perception
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 Stealth
Assuming they are speaking goblin Rameth mixes a comprehend languages and sneaks forward to give a listen
