They are actually physically grabbed by spiders. Think of them as having repelled down, grabbed them, and are going back up as opposed to shooting webs at them. So you can see spiders, but not where you thought.
Gotcha! Thx for heads up (pun intended…)

Round 1
Spiders - sneak down from the ceiling and catch the party unawares! They then grab several party members in their gross spider legs and begin pulling them up to their webs on the ceiling!
- - - - - - - - - - -
Rameth - attempts to cut himself free, and fails miserably.
Roland- twists and squires and manages to stab at his captor, dealing it 8 damage! The spider hisses and attempts to keep hold of the warpriest!
The spider cannot keep hold and lets go, dropping Roland to the ground where he lands with a thud (you can make an acro check to land on your feet, otherwise you are prone).
Ealasaid - struggles to get a grip on her axe and swing it at the spider. She manages a weak swing, but is unable to actually hit the creature.
Quartle - Seeing his buddy in danger, he runs into the room and pokes at the spider carrying Namon until he gets too high up and out of reach.
The creature clutching Namon hisses and looses its grip and taking 1 damage, Namon falls 5' to the ground below.
Buffy - takes careful aim and shoots the spider that was holding Namon and manages to send an arrow straight up into its underside! Green spider guts spill out to the floor as its legs curl up and it drops to the ground with a thud. Dead.
Namon - satisfied his is free, Namon conjures up a ball of frost in his hand and lets it fly at a spider. But, still shaken from his spidery grasp, he misses the target by a wide margin.

Spiders - The three spiders struggle to keep a hold of the heroes!
Maintain Grapple vs Ealasaid: 1d20 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 5 = 27

The spider holding Ealasaid keeps a firm grip, and continues to move up towards the ceiling, now 15' in the air!
Rameth drops to the floor (make a REF save or fall prone).
The last spider scurries onto the wall and lets out a thick blast of webbing towards to ground!
Web vs Roland: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
But Roland manages to get out of the way of the sticky strands!

Heroes, go! Remember spider above Namon is dead.
Darque Naia |
Da-J - I shot Rameth's spider, not Namon's, which you seem to remember later in your post (as he needs to make a save or fall prone) but also the spider I shot seems to try to maintain its grapple, unless you meant Namon, or did it fail and he fall?!?!?
At any rate I'm confused. Who is still grappled, and how high are they?
Rameth the Delver |
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Rameth lands on his feat and launches his me dagger at the spider that had him
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 for 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 plus Drow poison
Rameth the Delver |
Wel Rameth targets the one easiest to hit
Darque Naia |
Naia grins mercilessly as her arrow shredded past Rameth's nose and embedded itself in the spider. She sights another and lets fly...
Move action: Favored Target : spider holding Ealasaid, unless Ealasaid kills it, in which case the one that shot at Roland.
Standard Action: Shoot at spider.
Take aim!: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 22 [Dex, BAB, Favored Target]

Round 2
Rameth - Rameth manages to land on his feet, and with a swift movement throws one of his poisoned daggers up at the spider that had held Namon in one solid motion.
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
The spider hisses as it takes 5 manages, but managed to shrug off the narcotic!
Ealasaid - Let's out a bloodthirsty cry and maneuvers herself to strike at her capture, and sends her flail crashing into the spider's ugly face, crushing in its head and smooshing it's brain. The creature's legs curl up and it dies and it and the elven rager fall to the ground and take 1d6 ⇒ 2 damage!
Buffy - grins a sick spider killing grin and fires off an arrow at the spider going all spider-man on Roland. Buffy is the only reference needed is this battle! Her arrow strikes true, piercing the creature's venom sac and sending its own vile toxins coursing through its body. The creature curls up and dies as it falls to the ground.
Quartle - froggy climbs up the wall and stabs his spear at the last remaining spider. He scores a hit, dealing 2 damage to the beasty.
Namon - going to bot you buddy.
The diabolic arcanist motions his hands and chants in a low voice until a blue aura surrounds his hands. He then fires an icy ray up at the spider on the ceiling!
Ray of Frost: 1d20 ⇒ 181d3 ⇒ 1
His ray isn't his best work, but is accuracy is superb! He deals the spider 1 whole damage!

Rameth the Delver |
Rameth retrieves his dagger and then attempts to coat both it and his new dagger with some spider poison from their ranges
Alchemy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 spider dagger
Alchemy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 MW dagger
Roland de Ridonport |
Roland watches Rameth with some interest.
"Is that a poison you are placing on your blades, and is it a deadly poison or a debilitating poison?"
I my opinion only poisons that do Con Drain or Con Damage, are deadly poisons. All others can damage you to 1 or drain you to unconscious.
Rameth the Delver |
Not totally sure but I know that spiders have poison so I figured I could use it as well…not that I am having much luck here.
Roland de Ridonport |
"Thank you for your honesty. As you do not know the effects of thier poison, I will not ask you to apply any to my blade." Roland remarks with some disappointment.
"By chance to you happen to pick up more than one of those whetstones?
Rameth the Delver |
nope but when we stop you can borrow mine
Rameth the Delver |
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 alchemy to ID the poison
Rameth the Delver |
it does d2 STR DC 14
Rameth the Delver |
Wonderful, a cut from this dagger could do quite the nasty surprise to someone.
Rameth coats his MW dagger in Drow poison.
Shall we?
I propose we move down the hall to 25, slowly and checking for traps with a take 10
DajellyMan |
The door into the next room (25) is unlocked and appears to contain no trap. The room beyond is lightless and empty, although it is obvious that the room was occupied at some point, most likely years ago. Naia and Quartle notice faint footsteps in the dust, indicating a group of several medium humanoids moved through here in the past few days. A lone door stands opposite you on the far wall.
DajellyMan |
Hearing nothing beyond the door prompts you to open said door. Upon opening said door, you saunter into the next room. Now this next room, this is a pretty cool room. It doesn't afraid of anything.
Dust and odd bits of stony debris and rubble lie scattered on the floor. An ornate fountain is built into the eastern wall. Though cracked, stained, and dry, the fountain's carving of a diving dragon retains its beauty. A relief-carved stone door stands on the western wall, and it appears to contain some sort of writing.
Darque Naia |
Naia enters stealthily. More of a sauntering stealth, but quiet, and cool. With a fat, throbbing, though very deep and quiet bassline. She sights everything with her mighty dethbow, the relief carved door, the statue in the fountain, the dust and rubble, the spiderwebs in the ceiling corners, even the spirit of a long lost lizardfolk warrior that trespass'd here. She sneers at the damned writing on the door, then drops her bow to her side.
"Clear! she hisses before bringing her bow up again and resuming guard.
Roland de Ridonport |
Upon hearing the 'Clear!' signal, Roland enters the room and begins to look around. He focuses his attention on the two primary features in the room, the fountain and the door.

Roland anxiously waits the outcome of Rameth's intereptation of the letters.
While he waits, he fidgets with the scum in basin, clearing some of it away.
"So... what does it say, Rameth?"
