A dice doesnt have a 0 on it, so halfway is 3.5 for a d6, 4.5 for a d8 and so on. The question really is, do you round up or down, although you sorta already answered that I guess.

Feelin a bit bad for old Ferdin. I feel like ive suggested this before but I usually run rolls with "reroll thresholds" like so:

1d6 = Reroll 1s

1d8 = Reroll 1-2s

1d10 = Reroll 1-3s

and so on.

Taking the average HP Hurts high HD classes more than low HD classes, since you "lose" more HP (a d6 loses 3 HP, a d12 loses 6) Rolling a d6 at most gets you 2 HP less but can net you 3 more, while rolling a d12 at most gets you 5 less HP but can net you 6 more HP. The difference in potential loss and gain is the same for the two dice (1) but the larger variable makes the higher dice HD fluctuate far more. Add to that that the high HD chars usually need all the HP they can get and you realize settling for only 2 more average HP is just really bad.

With the reroll system, at most any given dice will lose 1 HP, while retaining the potential for higher HP, making higher HD actually desirable.

Thats my rant over, consider it or ignore at your leasure.

How did you the grid numbers to show up in MapTools?. I'm still working out I want to do combat for the game.

Click view => show grid. Make sure it's checked. Next hit view =>show coordinates. You may have to right click and drag the map to make sure it's all lined up (a1 a2 etc) somes times Map tools likes to start you with crap like a -4...

I actually prefer is when BBEG's do stuff that's not the standard "walk into room and fight PCs". Makes things more interesting! Besides... if he's buffed, and level 6, and had 10 goblin mooks, that means it's a higher level encounter and we get more XP :P
