"So tell me about this triad friend." Jun Yu waits paitently.

A blue and dark green humanoid toad with large eyes, carrying an ornate longbow and 4 quivers of arrows looks at Crugonk and quips in a guttural voice, almost a croak, "High visibility works for fans is high visibility for snipers." You think he smiles, but you're not sure. He walks off toward the buffet table.

A minstrel tunes a stringed instrument with two necks in a corner, while his companion, some sort of well articulated man-sized construct or golem, sharpens an oversized axe.

Five identical women, dressed in red dragonhide plate and black tabards bearing 5 stylized red hearts walk into the room. A number of patrons take note of them, but say nothing. They head over and speak to the guards privately.

The Announcer returns and flits through the room, keeping an eye on things, and asking if everyone's being taken care of well. He assures everyone that the evenings entertainment will begin in an hour, as scheduled.

More gladiators trickle in and out of the room. A human mage in azure robes and a tall pointed hat carrying a long staff, three orcs in furs and leathers, a tengu with a number of feathers dyed bright orange and yellow and armed to the teeth with all manner of bladed weapons, a blue-haired ogress with brass-capped lower tusks and brass arm armor walks about politely introducing herself as Gurtha the Healer, a strange humanoid with slimy purplish skin and tentacles for a mouth pokes its head in the doorway, looks around a few moments, and then leaves again, a human wearing a bandit's mask and dark purple attire and carrying a wide variety of daggers and alchemical vials tries to keep a low profile, 2 red-scaled kobolds with fiery orange eyes and strange glowing tattoos on their arms snarl and hiss at folks who try to speak with them, and a bat-winged woman with silver hair and white enameled scale armor asks around if anyone's heard anything about the debut matches, and who replaced Direct Connect's point guard after her retirement.

The Enforcers, Ravens of War, Black Spears, Spears of Blood, Wolves of the Arena, Lions of Battle

Miggins stares at Jun Yu for a moment.

"You really have no clue about all this do you? Have you ever even seen a match before you signed on?"

He pulls Jun Yu over to a table and starts gesturing wildly and drawing magical prestidigitation diagrams in the air as he speaks. "Each team has a ten members. A Team Leader, a Runner, and eight Gladiators. The Gladiators' roles are interchangeable, except in Dungeon Ball, when they have to keep their roles: a Team Leader, a Runner, a Point, a Point Guard, two Guards, two Snipers, a Keeper, and a Wisp. On rare occasion the Team Leader and Runner can be different team members than they are for regular matches. I don't care much for Dungoen Ball, so you'll have to ask someone else for details."

Miggins gulps some odd-smelling beverage as he continues, "The season is broken into three Triads. Each Triad lasts 5 matches. The first match of all teams are always Debut Matches, and are comprised of two teams working together against an objective. Seems your team is going to be in a Monster Slayer match. I'll explain that in a minute,, but I promise it's not good."

"You have two gladiatorial Leagues in this sector, and those who complete all three triads get to fight the opposing League's Champion. Now, the Champion used to come from teams in the days back when most fights were one-on-one matches, but nowadays Champions are just powerful monsters or contractors from across the planes. Each year it's a different Champion, and they never really contend for the title; they're hired into it. Gladiators who are particularly amazing sometimes get hired as Champions, but it doesn't happen often. Beating the other League's Champion qualifies you for the end-season SlaughterBowl. SlaughterBowl is a free-for-all between the winners of the five sectors. Usually only two or three teams make it in, and many years there is no SlaughterBowl, as only one team -or no teams- can beat the Champion. Champions are serious business to keep ratings high."

Miggins realizes that everyone is listening now, so he quafs his drink, stand on the table and smiles broadly as he continues for everyone's edification. A true bard.

"Obviously, there is a lot of new talent this year... Well, where was I? Oh, yes. Anyway, you all are members of the Astral League. The other league in this sector is the Leng Mercantile League. They're one of the newer sponsored leagues, and you're all one of the historical leagues. Lots of history and tradition here. And egos and pride. Tread carefully."

"All matches are randomly generated as of this season. In previous seasons, Team Leaders would play The Wager to determine the arena's terrain and features. The only exceptions were the Debut Match, and the first match of the second and third Triad. Those were preset seasonally, and carried a larger reward for winning them. Fun stuff. I'm not sure how rewards work this year, or how important those first matches of the latter Triads are. The Debut Match is still one of the biggest draws of the season, and sets the tone for audience favorites, team strengths and weaknesses, etc."

"Team Leaders and Runners get 3 resurrections per season, and all other team players get two. Regardless of whether those deaths occur on or off the field, so be careful. Killing anyone off-field comes with heavy ramifications, but some teams are shady enough to lose one of their players for the season in order to handicap another team."

"There are a lot of different matches, but most are self explanatory. If you have questions, feel free to ask. (Not sure how to include this IC, so here: Rangers favored terrain bonuses correspond to arena terrain types.) The match you all are in first is called a Monster Slayer match. Each one is different, and is usually a match between two allied teams against a pack of very tough exotic monsters, or one insanely dangerous creature. The monsters usually have a handler or two on the field with greater invisibility effects on them. They won't hurt you, but aid their creatures. While it's frowned upon, killing them is perfectly legal on the field, and sometimes helps throw the creatures into temporary confusion without direction. Just sayin'. Also, it's perfectly legal for the two teams to attack each other, but this usually a terrible idea, as all your manpower will be needed to bring down the beasties. Though, sometimes underhanded teams will try to take out obvious competition early in the season this way."

"Now, the thing that I find most interesting is that you all are fighting in Trapped Ruins! This is important as the traps are there for everyone in the arena, both teams, the creatures, and the handlers. This gives sentient creatures a slight advantage. It also means it's unlikey that you'll be fighting a solo monster, as the Ruins arenas are usually very cluttered. Whatever you're fighting will likely be fast and quick, with high mobility, and I'd wager there'll be more than a half-dozen of them One year it was demonic raptors. That was a massacre. Sometimes they even mix up the creatures, if they compliment each other well, but that's all speculation. Be prepared for anything, really. The traps are always vicious: pit traps, snares, poisoned darts, entangling traps, saw blades, slamming stone walls, etc. They never use poison gases or contact poison, so that should be a comfort. There are usually between ten and twenty traps in the arena, depending on the size and layout. At least you're not fighting in a Labyrinth your first time in...."

A few people nod gravely at this statement.

"I'm not sure what else to tell you. The default rules tend to be: You get paid if you survive the match. Your entire team gets a bonus if seven or more of your survive. There is no pre-match buffing; everything is done on the field. You must start with your own equipment, but once a match starts trading/loaning gear and picking up/stealing items from others is fine; sometimes there is gear placed in key locations in the arena. All non-consumed gear reverts to its owner's possession after the match. Games are either lethal or nonlethal depending on the guidelines. The first Triad is typically nonlethal, with the exception of Monster Slayer, Mutual Annihilation, and Survive the Horde. So, you're all fighting a lethal match first go-round."

Miggins bows a little, and adds "Of course, all of these default rules are subject to change based on individual match type."

Miggins looks around the room.

"Any questions?"

Male Goblin Fighter 5

The little goblin's head pokes out of one of the trunks holding clothes so he can better listen to the explanation of the games. Then he asks a question of his own.

"How me make sharp arrow nonlethal for match? Is it magics or just rule me must follow?"

Once he hears the answer, Twang goes back to rummaging through the clothes. He fishes out some part of a cracked skull and plants it on his head like a helmet.

"Any of this able to make teeth sharp? Me wanna look good."

I like Plan C and Cannon Fodder, as well. I'm aware there are some nonlethal arrow options in some books, just wonder if some magic makes all attacks nonlethal in those matches or if the PCs use saps or take the -4 to attacks for nonlethal. Or is that just a rule against deathblows? And sorry about the Bonegrinders suggestion. I should have known it came to me too easy and checked the other thread.

Miggins answers congenially to Twang, "Oh, the magic of the arena automatically converts lethal damage into nonlethal damage. It's like when you dream, and sometimes no matter how hard you try you can't hurt someone."

Someone snickers at an elf nearby.

The gnome tells Twang that he can have his jewelers make teeth caps for him if he likes, but he'd have to see a prosthesist for dental implants if he wants function over cosmetics.

Male Goblin Fighter 5

Twang just wants to look more savage, as he explains to the gnome.

"Me want to look fierce. Most gnomes scared of me. Usually point and yell right after I shoot at them. Me need to look fierce, but not shiny. Me still want to hide sometimes."

The goblin will gravitate to blacks, browns and greens, muted colors to blend into a variety of backgrounds. He'll try to keep the cracked skull helmet and whatever they come up with to make his mouth look more like a painful maw.

Do we need to come up with a battle standard, or does that come later? Also, can we still spend money? What these guys have been saying gave Twang an idea.

The blood can visibly be seen drain from Jack's face at the kobolt's descriptions of what's to come, though Jack had voulentered for the arena he had done so thinking it would be easier than serving his time. This was not sounding easy. Going shaky in the knees he makes his way to the gnome tailor. "Umm.. Ah'd like somthin' inconspicuous like, somethin' grey or.. dark green like.." he begins in a small voice. Clearing his throat weakly he tries to find his voice. "So ehm.. I'm thinkin' o' takin' tha name 'Tha Undertaker' so, anythin' thematic would do. Some soft boots, loose, light clothin' an' a hood ta' cover me features ta help meh move around quiet like an' give meh ah mysterious air like.. Ya follow?"

Jun Yu listens for a time before shrugging content in his own attire of loose white silk pants. His skills were all he needed to show the people for showmanship. Any fool can kill a man with a sword or a bow He thinks wryly as he turns a casual eye at some of his other competitors before finding a quiet place to meditate and flow some of his fighting stances.

Gaalafei winces a bit at Twang's breath, but continues congenially, nonetheless. "Good thing I'm not most gnomes then. Perhaps you'd rather have your teeth sharpened at the Barber Shop? They do all sorts of body modifications, war paint tips, tattoos, hair styling and grooming, etc."

Gaalafei looks Jack over and sort of tsk-tsks under his breath.

"Sir, if you want to be taken seriously, or ignored, there is no better way than to dress fashionably and simply. People are intimidated by the wealthy, and unless those wealthy are arrogant or boisterous, most tend to ignore them. Social awkwardness and all, as I'm sure you're well acquainted with." He pauses, pondering, then says, "I have just the thing. Simple and elegant: a black celestial sheep wool blend longcoat, with ample internal pockets, a sleek black top hat, and a fine grey-silver paisley waistcoat. Even comes with a Kolyarut timepiece on a chain. You'll look like a classy Undertaker, and likely a dockside gang boss, to boot. If the hat's too tall for your taste, I also have derbies."

He waits for your approval of his suggestion.

HP 17/17, AC 18/ 14/ 14, Fort +5, Ref +4, Will +1, CMD 17(18) Damphir Cad 2

"errmm... Ah'm thinkin' dat people might no' like tha look o' me face see, so's dat's why Ah was thinkin' o' tha hood. Maybe a cloth sack hood wi'h a deaths head painted on it? An' Ah'll take tha derbie as well please."

Jack, I'm picturing a Rorschach-style skull mask and outfit for you now. :) Not sure if that's what you mean.

@Twang: Battle standards are up to you as a group. Based on consensus, there are more votes for Plan C. So, that's your team name. Yes, if you still have wealth left you may spend it before the debut match.

Male Human (Varisian) 2 Wizard Illusionist

"Is sounding to me like we are ready for the plan making then. My friends, I suggest that we are finding a good place to funnel in the attackers as quickly as possible. I am also thinking that I am having some very tricky plans for making others more desirable to monster that is planning to be eating peoples. For me, in battle only winner and loser. Honor misguided concept of one who not witty enough to desire winning. So, we shall be making for the winners circle if you are follwing what is I am to be saying!"

Mandra did her best to pay attention as Miggins spoke but occasionally found herself getting distracted as the speech seemed to run on forever only Khan's occasional nudges managed to revert her attention back to the bard and luckily for her most of the important information managed to sink in. She didn't quite like the fact that there would be 'nonlethal' matches at first but when it was further explained that some sort of magic would do the job for her she was a bit relieved. Restraint had never been one of her strong points.

While the idea of fighting one large particularly powerful monster was definitely interesting Mandra had to admit she was sort of hoping for the large group of exotic monsters as most likely that was where she'd get a chance to show off her skills at there fullest. It would be far more difficult for her and Khan to restrain and tear up some sort of giant monster than it would be to pick apart a group. She made a mental note to look out for those invisible 'handlers' if things started going badly for the team perhaps she and Khan could take a couple of them out.

Deciding to join in on the 'costume change' that a number of the other warriors were trying Mandra headed over to the Gnome and gave the little guy a toothy grin. "Got anything that you think might work for me and Khan? I'm not particularly picky when it comes to clothes so long as they don't cause any problems in a fight, if you've got anything that sorta matches Khan's coat in color that might be good. But I won't wear it if it's actually made from a Leopard.. or any other cat for that matter. Not quite sure if you've got anything that Khan could wear seeing as hes a Leopard and all but I guess its worth askin'."

My general idea for Mandra's looks is based off of the Catfolk from the Beastiary 3 and Cheetara from the new Thundercats show(though with a more Leopard style) So any suggestions on what might be cool to give her a more gladiatorial look are appreciated :P. I'm gonna see if I can have a friend of mine draw her for me :D
I've been completely unable to find a decent avatar to represent Mandra X_x

Braegan claps the dark-haired Vidor's back good-naturedly, "Fella, I'm not sure any of us understood all the words yer sayin', but ya sounded smart sayin'em. Funnel'em in, chew'em up, and spit'em out... that about cover it?"

That was my read on Invigorate, too. Just wanted an official answer before I took them into any fights. And I'm having a hard time coming up with a stage look for Braegsn. I kind of thought his 'local boy' look would be his shtick, but if that's not gonna win any crowd favor for him or the team, I'd be open to other ideas.
.
I like Jack's look, though. Like a Victorian serial killer. :)

Male Halfling Monk 5 (Maneuver Master)

Ebenadar gladly takes the hat and struts around the room displaying it proudly. After the discussion about how the matches work, he pipes up, "What's a runner do? I mebbe short but I'm nimble an' as fast on ma feet as most o' you tall folks."

Nobody has to pick new outfits. They're just options and ideas.

"Well, miss," Gaalafei says to Mandra, "I have some warrior woman armor that would show off your natural fur patterning quite well, as well as a friend in the kennels that has decorative barding that may compliment it well."

Miggins addresses Ebanadar, "Runners get a minute on the field to scout terrain, set traps, do re-con, take out the other runner, etc. in matches. Effectively, the first minute is a solo match between runners before the rest of the team's players come in. Plan C's runner is Zayle, that tiefling fellow that came in earlier. In Dungeon Ball matches, Runners get thirty seconds, and first chance at the ball, assuming they get to it in time, or choose to go after it. Runners have deep feuds amongst themselves, so sometimes those thirty seconds devolve into a brief duel."

A musical group takes a stage in the corner, and the lights dim. It is lively but quiet enough for conversation.

Male Goblin Fighter 5

Twang nibbles some of the food still left out.

"See how all stand near food? We can use food to distract dumb monsters! Me would starve them to make them more vicious. Food will make them stop in place good for ambush. If not work, hunks of meat can set off traps."

The little goblin looks around at everyone else to see what they think of the idea. A broken, scared bone covers the top his face like a helmet, while the muted greens, browns and blacks serve to make him look like some jungle savage.

"IF that not work, me going to buy bit and bridle. Lots of monsters running loose in ruins sounds like chance to get new mount!"

If the others like the idea, Twang will chip in for some raw meat and BBQ sauce. He'll also buy a bit and bridle in case he gets a chance to bust a demonic bronco. Also, I have this urge to buy a bucket of paint. For some reason, I have this vision of invisible monsters being set loose on us and the folks at home just use see invisible screens

Male Human (Varisian) 2 Wizard Illusionist

Looking at Twang a bit perplexed at what the little fella actually is, he says, "Ahhhh, yes. I am thinking that little strange thing with skull hat is having the good idea as is Mr. Longclaw. We will be having the fun making with stabbing and shooting. Such things remind me of place called Detroit. I once end there after jumping in portal wizard was making for me. I tell you much safer here, hahahaha."

HP 17/17, AC 18/ 14/ 14, Fort +5, Ref +4, Will +1, CMD 17(18) Damphir Cad 2

Victorian serial killer sounds perfect, add the Rorschach mask and a black bowler hat and I think we've got an image :)

"Righ', jus' like tha'." Jack replies to the gnome as he selects his outfit. "An' ya just gave meh a bette' idea fer me name too. Hows abou' 'Gentleman Grey' or 'Grey Noble'. Then all Ah needs ta do is keep me trap shut an' stay alive, lookin' good doin' i', an' tha crowd 'ill love meh, right?"

I like the idea of using meat as bait, seasoned with some poisones and I think we've got a good set up. If we place the meats at a junction of favorable terrain, someplace the meat-shields can keep them off the archers ;) and I think we have a plan.

Dressed in his new attire Jack in unrecognizable as the rat he is, though his slouch is still evident along with his several twitches and quirks. Walking out of the dressing booth he is caught by the gnome tailor who proceeds to tell him about attitude, 'being the attire', and 'filling in the personality' and other such dribble. In his eagerness to please Jack is a pliable student in the short crash-course in acting offered by the gnome. Walking with a straight back and square shoulders back over to Braegan and Vidor. "What'ya reckon? Look alrigh'?"

As the night draws on, everyone gets acquainted with each other, and the party is brilliant.

Good food, lots of drinks, and great entertainment. In what feels like the wee hours of the morning, all of you are shown to your team bunks, and you all retire for the evening after bickering over who sleeps where.

Way too early in the morning, and most of you with hang overs, you are awakened by the sounding of a shrill bugle. In a panic, torpor, or instinctual flailing, you all wake up grumbling and grabbing at weapons. Lieutenant Zayle, the tiefling Runner of Plan C stands in the middle of the room.

As soon as he sees you are all awake, he turns heel and heads for the door, standing at its entrance, seemingly to keep watch. Then, in walks your Team Leader, Ezendra Garrow, relaxed, stern, commanding, and obviously not hungover. She snaps her fingers and a goblin porter carries in a tray with small crystal cups of amber liquid in them. He passes them around to those of you who look hungover and encourages you to drink. "Cure head pain from drink," he tells you.

"Now then," Ezendra says to you all, "The next two days are training. There are eleven of you, and we need eight for the team. No alternates. Our debut match is going to be unconventional. The Bonegrinders had a few members refuse to play, and some are out on injury... so three of you lot will be proxy players for them, as well as some greenhorns from down the hall. Of the eleven of you, regardless of whether you play for me or the 'Grinders, I will pick the best eight. Survivors usually take precedence, as a one-lifer this early in isn't much good to me."

She walks the length of the bunks and back as she speaks now, "I am trying to find out what monsters we'll be up against, but I'm certain it'll be good number based on the terrain, and some inside information I possess. Something vicious and fast, no doubt. Probably not raptors after last year's massacre in the LML."

"Those of you that make the cut will then report for Dungeon Ball training the following day. It's an important thing to train for, more than combat, and the ratings are always high when these matches show up. The network's been considering making Dungeon Ball it's own show, with leagues and everything, and taking it out of Dungeonators altogether. Personally, I'd be fine with it. While it requires a different level of skill, it detracts from fighting. that's why I'm here." She smiles her first smile, and it chills you to the bone.

"We're one of the teams that is disallowed most magic, but we tend to get a few compensations in return. We get better Sponsors and use of their featured items, we get better pay, a bit more prestige, and a handicap in a Wipe (a Wipe is a TPK, excluding the Leader). I find that these benefits tend to more than compensate for not allowing mages and their ilk on the team."

"The Bonegrinders' Leader is an orc barbarian named Tolruk. His Runner is a goblin named Gutternsipe. Guttersnipe is a versatile little bugger, and prone to taking out competition when he can, so everyone keep an eye out. The two other 'Grinders that stayed on are Cowboy the minotaur and an orc woman named Thinky. She drops ships on people when things go poorly, so do not get too close if things get bad. She's our only mage, and she will probably only directly aid the 'Grinders with her magic. The other six slots of theirs are going to be filled by three of you lot, and three newcomers from down the hall."

She looks around. "So, who's volunteering to be a Bonegrinder?

Okay everyone. Tomorrow evening, likely around 7 pm-ish EST, I'll start posting in the gameplay forum. I've not heard from many of you since recruitment.

And to re-cap, those who made the cut:

Jhock "The Reaper" (half-orc invulnerable rager barbarian 5)
Yark Flayschildren (orc invulnerable rager barbarian 5)
Dumb Karl (half-elf thug rogue 5)
Twang Slugbitter (goblin fighter 5)
Jun Yu of the Black Serpent (human master of many styles monk 5)
Crugonk "the Beaster" (half-orc beast cavalier rider 5)
Jack Cross (human crossbowman fighter 2/sniper rogue 3)
Vidor Varkony (human cad fighter 5)
Mandra and Khan (catfolk skirmisher ranger 5, leopard animal companion)
Ebenadar (halfling monk (maneuver master 5)
Braegan Longclaw ('half-elf' barbarian 2, ranger 3 (guide & skirmisher)

Well you know Im here :)

Dumb Karl hasn't posted in this thread yet. The rest of you have. Some just not in a few days.

Hence my original estimation of starting later, as the holidays keep everyone busy. We'll see.

After rolling on the monsters table at home, your first match is going to be very very interesting.

I'll have a map up late tonight sometime, hopefully, of the arena.

Male Goblin Fighter 5

*Twang crawls out from under one of the bunks, his bed unslept in.*

"Me stick with pretty lady what wants to kill people!"

He does a little jig in the dorm room.

"Goblins not people so me safe!"

Male Human (Varisian) 2 Wizard Illusionist

I'd say we fill the Plan C team with those who posted early in this thread, then number post. This should place most of the folks who have started to create some sort of team building on the same team. I will volunteer for the other team if no one else wants to go. Vidor is an underhanded duelist anyhow.

"Hmmm...I am not liking the changing of teams terribly much, but I came to win. I am confident I will be making the cut at any rate and will be back with you men in short time. It will be giving me the time to get rid of those of you who I am not liking so much. Too bad that seemsto be none ofyou, hahaha. Very difficult choice for me to be making, I think. Glad you will be coming back to the life even if the dead I am making you."

Male Half-Orc Cavalier (Beastrider) 5

"So, fight at last! I want to crush someone!"

HP 17/17, AC 18/ 14/ 14, Fort +5, Ref +4, Will +1, CMD 17(18) Damphir Cad 2

Sitting up bleary eyed Jack waves away the offered hangover potion. Though he doesn't look it, he didn't taste a drop of any mind-altering substance the night before, he's just naturally disheveled. Glancing over at Vidor and Braegan he gives a shrug. He'd follow their lead, if they went, he'd go.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian 5 (Invulnerable Rager)

Standing up, Jhock stretches, a few loud pops coming from his neck as he rolls it around. Mmm...I prefer this team. It seems good, and from what I've seen, well led. I know nothing of the other teams other then what you've just mentioned."

As if on cue, a figure looms in the doorway, filling it. The hulking brute stoops and steps sideways to enter, and in the light you can see that this is a heavily scarred orc, at least seven feet tall, and all muscle. Large, protruding tusks jut from his lower jaw, and he wears a black-painted breastplate with various skulls attached to it, mostly humanoid. His arms are bare, save for wicked spiked leather gauntlets and vambraces, and he has what appears to be a net wrapped about his waist as a sash. He does not appear to have any other weapons on his person, but you're all quite confident that he could probably crush you to dust by looking at you the right way.

"I am Tolruk Bonegrinder! I have fought in the games since before the Leagues. I have slain giants, dragons, and nightmares from other realms. I am stronger than all of you, and likely more cunning. My team is undergoing... negotiations, and I find myself in need of inadequate replacements. I have never forfeited a season, and plan to win at least the second Triad, even with a handicapped opening match. My strategy is simple: hit the enemy hard and fast, and when they're not looking, stab them in the back."

Again, as if on cue, a goblin manifests behind Lieutenant Zayle, as if from nowhere, curved blade at his spine, while Zayle has likewise drawn his sword to the goblin's throat. A female orc, overweight and dressed in luxurious clothes, floats into the room with a wicked grin on her face.

"Okay, Tolruk, you've had your theatrics. Can we move along now? I dislike this bastard joint-team as much as you do."

Tolruk spits on the ground and motions for Guttersnipe to stand down, at which Zayle cuffs him on the skull with the flat of his blade.

"It's a pride fight with a twist. Not sure what the twist is yet, but I've learned that much. Lions. Likely a few spotted lions, too; I remember them rearing some last season in the stables. I was expecting smaller, due to the traps, but lions are pretty maneuverable. Any new from your husband?" Tolruk asks Ezendra.

"Nothing about the match yet," she replies, "but it's nice to know what we're up against. You lot think you can handle killing a bunch of oversized cats?" Her gaze scans the group of you, and lingers on Mandra for a moment, as if to gauge whether she was up for such a task.

Ezendra turns to Vidor and says, "Varkony, right? The thing about this match is we are all on the same team. There was an oversight when the engineers put together the match generator this season. Monster Slayer matches are not supposed to be debut matches. Ever. Neither are Labyrinth matches. So, anyone that wound up with matches like that are thrown on a joint team. We're not allowed to kill each other, much as we'd like to. All attacks against our teammates, regardless of their actual team, are converted to nonlethal attacks. The Producer wants it to look like an intentional new innovation for this season, and is spinning it as such, but the truth is it's a blunder on the Arena's part."

She looks at Tolruk. "The only reason we're bothering to distinguish is so you're not taking orders from both of us. It would be too confusing. That much we agree on. Tolruk's style is more direct, while mine is more subtle."

Tolruk snarls at her a little.

Male Human (Varisian) 2 Wizard Illusionist

"Ah, now I am understanding." Scratching his chin he says,"In that case I am happy to be working with the giant and his strange friends. I am sure that the feeling is not mutual. Or is that is mutual? Huh, oh well, who is caring as it is non-matter. All I care for is to be the doing the dying in the games."

I'm happy to run with Jack and Vidor. :)

Male Human (Varisian) 2 Wizard Illusionist

"Did I say to be doing the dying? I am meaning not to be dying. This language is at times confused to me, hahaha. How strange you must think it that I would want to be dying. Which in reality I do not." Vidor says after think about his last comments.

Here's the Arena map:

MAP!

Feel free to look it over. Teams will have an hour in-game before the match to review the map layout, so OOC you may as well look it over now.

Furthermore, the Bonegrinders will enter from the west/right, and Plan C will enter from the east/left.Monsters enter from the north/top and south/bottom. Lieutenant Zayle and Guttersnipe enter first for a full minute (ten rounds), then the monsters and both teams after that, at the same time, acting in initative order.

Initiative will be determined as follows:

-PCs go on individual initiatives. I know this will complicate the first match due to number of players, but I think we'll be ok (just try not to delay/hold too frequently!).

-Team Leader and Runner act on the Runner's Initiative.

Ruined Arenas are large. This one is 150ft x 270ft. Each square is 5 ft. Orange areas are stating gates. Elevations are listed in yellow. The yellow dot in the middle is just to denote the center of the arena.

All pillars are 15 ft. above the surface they rest on. Shallow water (light blue areas) requires double movement, no charging/running, and grants cover (about waist high).

Traps will be revealed as they are found/sprung.

The perimeter of the arena has 5 feet of wall, then a force wall continues upward, creating a large invisible dome, preventing combatants from fleeing/attacking spectators. Outside the arena proper are stadium seats filled with tens of thousands of spectators ready for opening day of Dungeonators!

From this point onward, feel free to post in the Gameplay forum.

**To speed up play when we start, go ahead and roll Initiative now. Anyone that doesn't by the time the Runners are on the field will have their Initiative rolled by me.**

Until the match starts, tomorrow evening, all IC conversation is assumed to take place over the next 2 days, in-game, during training. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

The posts already in the gameplay forum are for flavor, and the Announcer's description of the match can be assumed to have been watched on the portalviews.

When game starts tomorrow evening, all the team members will be assembled in the Arena's sublevels, getting equipped and briefed by their Leaders.

Unless a consensus is made, based on the above player conversations I'll assume Braegan, Jack, and Vidor all go with the Bonegrinders. Thinky urges him to pick Grugonk, Yark, and Jhok, or even Twang over the others, but Tulrok will pick them if they volunteer just to piss off Ezendra and leaver her stuck leading brute fighters.

Dude thats a sweet map you draw that yourself?

"I just wish to win. I was among the first to join this new team. I have yet to see though whether or not anyone has the strength to back their words." Jun Yu shrugs then unashamed of his words.

"I just wish to get this underway."

No, I took a map from from Wizards' old map-a-week and altered it in photoshop.

Original Map (1st on list)

Male Half-elf Rogue (Thug) 5

Sorry, holidays keeping me away! I'll be back in action beginning tomorrow!

Initiative1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Still looks nice man I have to run games through google docs using their version of excel gets a tad annoying sometimes lol

I've never tried that. I've only done PbP on these boards, and I just update maps with character icons on photoshop, then upload them to Flickr as needed. I just keep a master .psd file as a background with all the icons as separate layers, and save it as a new .jpg before uploading it. It's easy to add text, terrain, etc. with colored lines and whatnots.

Male Goblin Fighter 5

Initiative 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

As to who's on what team, I'm happy to be on either. Obviously it would be nice to be on Plan C proper, especially if his skills aren't necessarily valued on the Bonegrinders, but either way would be fine with me. He just had a nice little dynamic going with Vidor and Jack, and I think their skill-sets would be synergistic. When will we find out who's on which team?

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Braegan wakes quickly, two meaty and bare feet hitting the cold stone floor. You realize he only has four toes on either foot. Strapping on his boots and stretching out his chest and arms, he turns to give the monk a laugh, "I guess we'll see how any of us do soon enough, huh?"

Once ready, he goes overto find his two new drinking buddies, thinking over the stories they swapped over the past few days. "So, Vidor, you didnt ever mention any distance fightin'... you even own a bow?" He looks over at Jack's gear, "Or a crossbow, I guess those work, too."

Moved to gameplay thread.

We'll come back here for nonessential down time between matches, or OOC conversations.

Male Half-Orc Cavalier (Beastrider) 5

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Crugonk is happy to stick with Jock and Yark, all orcs and heavy hitters, whatever the final team is it. I think if there is a big monster the three of us can deal with it while the others cover the flanks.

Male Orc Barbarian(Titan Mauler) 2/ Fighter 1

[ooc]Sorry I haven't posted much guys. As of Saturday I no longer have internet at my house. Unfortunately this is going to be the case for the next 6 months or so. I am going to do my best to get online every day(2x/day) and get things updated as best I can. I will do my best to catch up on the rules that have been posted during the last couple of days and I should have my post up tonight.
