RETIRED

So, there was a post in Gameplay about me being in position to strike, but I'm not sure how that happened? I was stuck in the hallway while the derro was surrounded by the party, there was nowhere for me to move that could attack him. This got me pretty confused about what was going on.

Anyway, moving forward...

You had commented about mov8ing into melee when there was an opening, and theo had moved out of melee so I believe someone moved you into his spot,

If I can use Precise Strike to deal Non-Lethal Damage still, then I am more than happy to grab that as well. Unfortunately my Level 3 and 5 Feats have already been chosen, but after that I will be focusing in the Teamwork feats that will help everyone else as well.

DM Talomyr : Are you wanting us to do our level up to 3 now?

You can, but it won't take effect until you rest next. I don't anticipate any combats between now and then, but you never know what you crazy PC types will do.

Cool, here are my updates:

Hp: 29; +9 (6, +2 con, 1 toughness at 3 HD)
AC 16; + 1 (dodge) CMD also increased by 1 to 20
BAB +2; gained 1

Gained Evasion from monk lvl 2;

evasion:
At 2nd level, a monk can avoid damage from many area-effect attacks. If a monk succeeds at a Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if a monk is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless monk does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Gained dodge as bonus feat from monk lvl 2;
dodge:
You gain a +1 dodge bonus to your AC. A condition that makes you lose your Dex bonus to AC also makes you lose the benefits of this feat.[/dodge]
Gained Precise strike from 3rd level feat; [spoiler=Precise strike]Whenever you and an ally who also has this feat are flanking the same the creature, you deal an additional 1d6 points of precision damage with each successful melee attack. This bonus damage stacks with other sources of precision damage, such as sneak attack. This bonus damage is not multiplied on a critical hit.

Also gained ranks in the following skills;
Acrobatics, now +8
Knowledge arcana, now +8
Intimidate, now +8
Perception, now +6
Spellcraft, now +7
Sense Motive, now +4
Stealth, now +6

The main changes of note at level 3 are getting the Craft Wondrous Items feat, the spells Entangle & Fox's Cunning, and that Strauch can now shift to medium size at will. I don't expect to get into melee enough that Precise Strike would be valuable.

You have not found them as of yet.

You can spend time to learn an additional language. It takes 20 days of training to gain a bonus language, and these days need not be consecutive. Each language requires a trainer who shares a language with you and knows the language you want to learn, or a book written in a language you know that explains the basics of the language you want to learn.

The new language does not count toward your maximum number of languages (racial languages + bonus languages from Intelligence + Linguistics ranks). You can train this way only a number of times equal to 1 + your Intelligence bonus.

(and)

Unless stated otherwise, retraining costs gp equal to 10 × your level × the number of days required to retrain ... At the GM’s discretion, this training cost could be up to 50% higher or lower, depending on situational factors within the settlement—availability of trainers, local economy, cost of materials, and so on.

I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the cost, but them's the standard rules.

Thanks for the information Torsten. Gives me something to think about :)

So for me to learn it now, it would cost me : 600 GP. That seems a bit high, but it I think it might give the 2 characters some bonding. So once I get that amount up for myself, I may have to try it ... if I don't get the Linguistics rank first.

I don't think it's fair to take all the money for the new language, people will have things they will want to buy. Plus 20 days will be a challenge.

It says that cost for retraining ... but what if I am not retraining (replacing), but just learning it?

Most people in PBPs aren't out to collect all the shinies so if your PC needs something then take it. It will even out in the end and if anyone feels slighted, they will just speak up.

I much rather someone use the money for something they want than just have it linger there with no use.

Male Human Wizard 3 | 25/25 HP | AC 13 T 12 FF 11 CMD 15 | Fort +4 Ref +4 Will +5 (+6 vs. mind-affecting) | Initiative +2 | Perception +4

It's not all the money. We have a couple thousand in credit with Oleg besides the swordlord's recent gift. There was a +1 medium longsword and some other stuff no one was going to use.

It's listed under the retraining rules and there are no references to any other cost that learning a new language would take.

If you are all sure this is something you are willing to allow me to do, then that would be great. We could do it in 2 different ways.

1 : Torsten teaches me as we journey and I learn it that way.
2 : I get a book, which means I could read it as Rufus walks with every one, although it would mean I am a bit distracted in the first round of combat as well during Perception checks.

Option 2 would allow me to learn it in the 20 days, I believe. Where as option one would be the 80 days. What do people think?

I'm alright with either option. Raz could likely help you learn as well.

As a good trader should, Jacobus will also join the language learning but only from an RP point of view at this time. I will spend one (or two?) point in linguistics next time we gain a level.

Right. I'm adding supplies for learning Draconic to the orders on the loot list (& subtracting 600 gp from our credit with Oleg; we should keep the Swordlord's cash), and here's my teaching roll:

Linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Eep. Maybe Raz can do better. Smart people can be terrible teachers, true.

Of all the luck, eh Torsten? The one with the highest bonus to Intelligence gets a 1. Fingers crossed for Raz then.

Just a thought, but magic can be quicker, easier and cheaper. I'm thinking of the Share Language spell here. It would take a 2nd level spell slot of course but 24 hours duration is worth it.

Other places I want to visit this trip are Bran's last reported location and the kobolds at the moon radish patch. I suggest we travel back to Lanyssa's, then into the hex to the NE, explore that hex, and if it gives us anything to work with we might talk to Lanyssa or the faeries whose nest is in the hex east of her home depending on details. If it gives us nothing immediately we can head to the hex between Bran's last location and Oleg's TP and explore that, then go to the moon radish patch and try to trade with them, then back to the TP.

Does anyone have their own plans or alterations they'd like to make to this one? (or if the above's unclear please say so)

Also I'm assuming that up = north.

I was wondering when Tove's headstrong drawback might show up...
The rules state that it applies to arguments contradicting her alignment (LG) but the fluff text give me the feeling that it is more to do with her worldview.
Interpreting it that way, she's firmly in support of the woodsman's right to defend himself against fey intruders. Be they former party members or not.
