I like the thought of a cousin on the team and trying to figure out how that would work, I also like the skin Walker idea, beyond that dont really have a preference

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Last chance for opinions. I'll make a final decision tomorrow at 1:00 pm central. After a decision is made, hopefully we can get this thing up and running again.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Okay, I went forward with Dayana Medvyed as the selection. Hopefully we will hear from her soon.
I have another question for the existing PCs. Would you entertain the idea of adding an additional character beyond Dayana? Simple yes or no is all I ask, although if you have further thoughts you'd like to express, please feel free.

Dayana Medvyed |

Here I am. Thanks again for giving me an opportunity to play some Kingmaker. Been wanting to try it out for awhile now and I'm stoked to participate here.
If there any other considerations, house rules, or IC info that I needed to be update on before I can post in Gameplay than let me know. If you need any hooks to explain Dayana's appearance mid-story I'll be happy to work with everyone else to offer explanations.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Welcome to the game. There aren't any house rules that I can think of. In terms background, you will have at least a loose connection to one of the players, Razarak who is also a Medvyed.

Tove Hellstrom |

Welcome to the team Dayana!
DM, I wouldn't be against adding an additional member to the party. The more the merrier... or at least perhaps the slightly more active..

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

That's two votes not opposing bringing in one more. One more will carry the motion and I'll bring in one more.
@Razarak and Dayana - Ok, let's work this out. You are both Medvyeds, how close are you? Cousins, 2nd or 3rd cousins? How well do you know each other?
@Raz - It might be useful for you to add some of your background information to your sheet so that Dayana might have something to work about the questions above.

Dayana Medvyed |

Hey, thanks for all the kind greetings everyone!
As for Dayana and Razarak's level of closeness, I'd think that making them cousins that would have seen and known each from family gatherings would be a good hook and explanation for why Dayana would suddenly show up in the party. Perhaps Razarak even sent her a letter asking for her help after the group lost a couple people? Or maybe Dayana just heard he was in the area and thought it would be best to catch up with her cousin?

Terri Riverrun |

Hello! So I'm apparently the one DM Talomyr was thinking about. Looking forward to having some fun with all of y'all.
Also, sorry for not chiming in sooner. I didn't think I was going to be picked after the initial recruitment, so I missed the announcement until Talomyr PM'd me.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Alright now that we have a full compliment of characters, I'll get a in-game post up sometime either tomorrow night or Sunday night.
Dayana, your interest in the expedition the swordlords have been backing along with the fact that you have heard your cousin, Razarak was among those chartered for he expedition has led you to the Stolen Lands, and Oleg's trading post in specific. As you arrive at the trading post, it would seem fate favors you this day as you see your cousing discussing business with a red-haired, barrel-chested man you can only assume is Oleg Leverton.
Not too long after Dayana arrives, Terri, you too find yourself at the gates of Oleg's Trading post, although you do not have the advantage of knowing someone within.
Both of you are welcome to post in the gamethread whenever you would like.

Terri Riverrun |

Alright. going to wait for Dayana to post before I do then. :)

Understood. I'll have a post for you later today.

Terri Riverrun |

Just read the raid on Dovan's camp and wow.
Just wow.
I think if Terri had been there, some of her mother's side would have been coming out. She definitely wouldn't have wanted them to die cleanly.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Yeah...I went darker than I should have on that one. That's not to say there won't be dark moments in the game from here on out, but I won't go that far again...

Terri Riverrun |

Yeah, I've got a few instances here on the boards of that. I really wish I could take them back, too.
Anyway, I've managed to catch up. I'm guessing that Tove, Ivo, and Raz can fill in what happened on the way to the Stag Lord's. In the interest of time and not dominating the game thread, I figured I'd post my ideas here.
Terri can cast Invisibility 2/day. She, Garethan, and Ivo have the highest Stealth skills at +10, +10, and +14 respectively.
Terri can also cast Charm Person 4/day.
The idea is we cast invisibility on two of us when a group of bandits comes to offer tribute or join the cause. Ivo makes the most sense given that he has Sneak Attack and part of this plan involves Coup de Graces. Terri would be a good choice since she can charm the guards (assuming their Will saves aren't too high.) She's also squishy which is why Garethane is also a good choice since he's heartier than she is.
Once invisible, we sneak in behind the bandits. Then we hide and wait until after most have gone to sleep. We coup de grace the sleepers and charm those that are awake into... I dunno? Just get them to believe Terri and lead them out of the fort and into an ambush? Charm them into opening the gate and letting everyone in might work better.
So yeah... Thoughts?

Razarak Medvyed |

That sounds like a good plan as well, assuming you dont fail your charm and are then in a den of bandits on your own,

Terri Riverrun |

With a +20 to stealth, I doubt that will matter as far as getting in. the problem's after. And yea, it is risky, but this is a high-risk, high-reward situation. The low risk alternative is to besiege the fort and try to wait them out. This one will require more work to keep us supplied and more men to properly keep them bottled in. It's also a strategy of attrition and those can be expensive. Sneaking in is risky, Ivo and whoever goes with him are in for a rough time if they get caught, but it also provides the quickest way to end this. With Ivo slitting throats, we're looking at fort save DCs on average of 28 to just survive the Coup de Grace, which is roll a nat-20 or die territory for anything we'd have a chance of reasonably beating at this level.
Besides, I have a few ideas on how to distract the guards while Ivo works. Raz isn't the only one in the party with fey blood in their veins. I'm sure that I can cook up something believable to draw them in with. ;D

Bassius "Bass" Vibulus |

@DM Talomyr - Thank you.
@Party - I was thinking about the plan, and I'm envisioning it as Terri and Ivo sneaking in invisibly, taking out the Stag Lord and other bandits if possible, then opening up the gates for the rest of us. A little Illiad-style plan. Just making sure we are all on the same page before we roll initative.

Terri Riverrun |

If they are caught, I think it'd be better for them to run.
Alternatively, we could have most of the party pose as new subjects of the Stag Lord and get in that way.

Terri Riverrun |

Unfortunately, no, not yet.
Can Bass cast expeditious retreat?

Terri Riverrun |

Well, phooey.
Alrighty, so a change to the plan, because some good points were brought up about what happens if Ivo and Terri get caught. We could pose as supplicants to the Stag Lord with two of us invisible and sneaking in alongside. This would keep us together and if we have some booze on hand to give, we could get them drunk and then do the deed once they're all out. The invisibility should last long enough for Ivo and Terri to duck into a hidey hole to wait. Plan then goes as before, except the party's now all inside and we don't have to worry about the gates.
Thoughts?

Garethane Seregon |

Looking at the size of the fort, we could use the rain a different way. Use the cover of night, rain, and (hopefully) drunk guards to sneak to the walls, set up a climbing team and not cast invisibility until right before heading into the keep. That would give most of 4 minutes to find the sleeping quarters and even the playing field.
Then, after a present time (assuming no ruccus has been raised) the rest of the party approaches as stealth fully as possible (i.e. not well) to start a more or less frontal assault.
Other thoughts, If garret could fly up to the top of the keep using his 1 / day wild shape, he could have a useful vantage to rapid shot enemies. I only wish he could escape in a similar fashion if things went pear shape.

Razarak Medvyed |

One thing to consider is our reputation. Do they have descriptions of us? I'm sure they've heard of a band of adventurers disrupting their business but do they know our numbers and what we look like? Because that could disrupt our pose as newcomers plan if they recognize us right off the bat.

Terri Riverrun |

That's a good point. Maybe we simplify the original plan, then. Terri and Ivo sneak in under the cover of invisibility and open the gates for everyone after disabling the guards. If we had some booze, Terri could charm them and get them drunk, but that will go south real quick if someone makes their save.
On the other hand, I've read through the entire game and I don't remember any of the bandits, save Kressle, being set free or running away. They may know something's going on, but I don't think they know who or what is doing their bandits in. They may just assume that the ones that have been killed ran off.
The problem is we have to take a risk somewhere. Sneaking in and opening the gates provides a good chance of taking them by surprise, but also provides a lot more risk to the ones doing the sneaking if they are caught. Lying our way in is risky since if they are wise to us, they could either leave us with no other option other than running or an assault on the gate/walls or wait until we're inside and try to overwhelm us with numbers.
We could forgo finesse and try to brute force our way in, but I don't think we have the party makeup for that approach. Most of us seem to be more adept at sneaking and indirect ways of overcoming a problem.
We could also skip the speculation and ask Kressle point blank if it's likely they've heard of us and know what to look for.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Sorry for the radio silence. The last couple of weeks have been entirely too busy. I'll try to resume posting soon.

Terri Riverrun |

No worries. It's getting close to that time of year for everyone. Just take care of yourself and we'll be here when you can spare the time.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Update: My schedule is still entirely too busy, but at least now I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (I really hope that's not a train...)
The week of Nov 25th, I should be able to resume a somewhat normal schedule assuming any of you are still around by that time.

Bassius "Bass" Vibulus |

Also still here. I've really liked the campaign so far, and I make sure to check for new posts every day at work. I'll stick around for you.

Tove Hellstrom |

My schedule is also really hectic at the moment so I actually appreciate this game slowing down for a while, I'd really hate to miss the big boss going down.

DM Talomyr - Kingmaker |

Ok, I'm back.
If memory serves me, we have Ivo, Terri, and Garet inside the Fort with the remainder of the party outside nearby.
Please check in so that I know who I still have and don't and we'll get things underway again.
Baring anything unforseen, I am currently waiting on those inside the Fort to tell me what they are doing and when (including how they will signal the others).

Terri Riverrun |

I'm here. I'll be posting later tonight. Having family over for dinner.

Terri Riverrun |

Okay, so here's Terri's agenda for this evening of fun and bloodshed. She'll wait until the inhabitants of the fort are good and liquored up or asleep before moving to find Ivo. Any sleeping bandit gets the Coup de Grace and any awake bandit she avoids like the plague.
