The coxswain retorts, "And how do you know it was not one of your group? How well do you know your companions?"
The captain, however, looks thoughtful and replies, "I will not turn against trusted crew without more. We will all keep our eyes open, and inform each other if we see more. Say nothing to the rest of the crew yet."
That druid looks shifty.
And the halfling is awfully quiet. Too quiet.

The group follows Giles' advice, and watch out for each other through the night.
In the morning, the anchor is raised and the boat carries on down the river.
Please let me know if there are any job changes you wish to make, or any other actions you wish to take. Also, I would like a Perception check from each of you.

As the keelboat continues down the river on the second afternoon after boarding, the party members on deck all spy rapidly growing shadows on the deck.
A trio of river drakes are swooping down at the ship!
They tried to use the blinding sun to escape detection.
Your high rolls mean no surprise.

One of the drakes, larger than the others, swoops down through the stables with incredible speed and snatches up one of the horses, continuing on ahead of the ship.
A second drake descends to the height of the crowsnest and spews a glob of spittle at the deck beside Giles. The ball of phlegm explodes in a caustic mess of goo, possibly ensnaring Giles and Garm.
Yuck!: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Reflex needed for Giles and Garm
Grodar hears the sounds of combat, but is too far away to affect things on the deck this round.
The final drake also unleashes its caustic spittle, this time against Barka.
Splortch!: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 8) = 15
Barka Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Barka dodges to the side, but shrieks as the acid burns her. 7 damage.

That's using deadly aim and point-blank shot. If I'm not within 30 feet, then it would just be +6 for attack and damage.

Giles and Garm each take 4 points of acid damage, but both manage to avoid being ensnared.
Slei's sling stone smacks solidly into the side of the scaly serpent.
Note that Grodar is now at the base of the stairs east of Mannfred, 10' of movement to get to the deck. Eldan is still inside the galley, 5' move to get to the door.

Captain Bloodtusk yells out, "Drakes! Kill 'em all! HALREX! GET UP HERE!"
One of the crew members on deck flees towards the stairs leading below. The other, Barka, recovers a javelin and hurls it at the drake which spewed on her.
Hurl!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Unfortunately, piercing the drake's hide is beyond her ability at this range.
The alpha drake continues to fly away, burdened by the unfortunate Lucky. It is now 80' ahead and 25' to the port of the port corner of the foredeck.
1d6 ⇒ 4
The drake to starboard drops suddenly and pounces on Giles!
Pounce Bite Tail: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 222d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 51d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 141d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3Includes higher ground.
Its teeth sink into Giles' shoulder, as its tail lashes against his armour. 5 damage
Grodar (note that Grodar is actually 5' east of where he's shown on the map. He needs 10' of movement to get to where shown, then can move normally.)

Dog takes a big chunk out of the drake, throwing off its attack. However, its tail still strikes Barka a glancing blow.
Note that all drakes are at about the same height, 5' above the main deck. Slei is still in the crow's nest, 30' up (just under 30' range to Giles' drake. Good Ol' Pythagoras.).

Holy cow! That hammer is dynamite! :)
Out of initiative, for now.
Barka collapses on the deck, and Halrex races over to attend her.
The piteous whinnies of Lucky can be heard as the large drake flies downstream and to the north bank, where a cave can be seen up ahead.
Captain Bloodtusk speaks up.
"We need that horse! You lot will put ashore in the skiff and see if you can recover it!"
The keelboat continues down the river, but veers towards the northern shore.
The party has a bit of time to make whatever preparations they want.
