Has the drake gone in the cave? How far away is the cave? And how large does the cave look?

The cave is about 400' downstream, on the north shore. The beach outside the cave is about 60' long, but the entrance itself is only 10-20' across.

The drake entered the cave, dragging poor Lucky with it.

Male Elder GM

The keelboat travels downstream until it is nearly even with the cave, and the ship's boat heads towards shore. Aboard are the heroes and Dog, with a couple of nervous crew members rowing.

Male Human Ranger (trapper) 4. HP: 40/40 AC: 19/13/16 F:+6 R:+7 W:+4 Init:+3 Perc: +9

If there is any light in the cave, Giles will lead the way.

Androgynous Aasimar Cleric 4; Init +0; Darkvision 60; Per +10; AC 19 (flat 19/touch 10/shieldless 17); HP 36; F+6, R +1, W+8

If Giles is leading, Zigil will cast shield other on him. (And will try to stay within 15 or 20'.)

effects:

Giles will take half damage and Zigil the other half. (Who gets the extra point if it's an odd number? I expect it's Giles.
Giles also gets +1 deflection bonus to AC and a +1 resistance bonus on saves.

Male Elder GM

Shield Other clarification:
The wording of the spell description is "the target takes half damage."
Everything is rounded down, so Zigil would take any damage in the case of odd numbers.

Male Elder GM

Near the cave, the air is permeated by the pungent odour of rotting fish. The beach outside is littered with the remains of several marine animals, including the bleached skeleton of an immense crocodile. The area is eerily quiet and devoid of wildlife.

A nervous whinny and snort can be heard from within the cave.

Male Human Ranger (trapper) 4. HP: 40/40 AC: 19/13/16 F:+6 R:+7 W:+4 Init:+3 Perc: +9

Giles sets aside his powder horn and blunderbuss and lights a torch. He holds Agrimosh in one hand and leads the way into the cave.

Male Half-orc Brawler 4 Init +1; Per +7; AC 18, T 12, F 16; HP 30/35; F +6, R +6, W +2

Grodar loads his crossbow, and follows Giles into the cave.

Mannfred will wildshape into a wolf and cast magic fang on himself.
Mannfred and Dog enter side by side.

Male Elder GM

The entrance leads to a cave, where Lucky the plowhorse stands bleeding, shivering, and blowing. He whuffles a bit as the party enters.

Another cave lies east of here, where a loud tearing and crunching can be heard. The caverns smell of fish, vinegar, and rotting meat.

Male Human Ranger (trapper) 4. HP: 40/40 AC: 19/13/16 F:+6 R:+7 W:+4 Init:+3 Perc: +9

Giles tries to keep Lucky calm while he quietly moves past toward the crunching sounds.

Handle Animal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Male Elder GM

Lucky calms somewhat, but is obviously unable to do much physically.

The group continues towards the inner cave, where the alpha drake is on a foetid pile of reeds, feasting on the rotting carcass of a cow.

Slei will move to B7 and load her sling staff.

Male Elder GM

Sorry, Zigil had already moved to B7, but I forgot to update the map. I moved Slei to A7 instead, hope that's okay.
Slei could still take a shot, if you wish, as she can load her sling as a free action now. It wouldn't change the drake's action.

The drake spies the party and stops tearing at its putrid meal. It spews a glob of mucus that lands amidst the leading group.

Reflex saves needed from Grodar, Giles, Slei, Zigil.

Grodar fires his crossbow, then moves towards the drake. I believe he can get to F5.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Male Elder GM

Grodar takes 5 points of acid damage, but is not entangled. He also hits the drake.

A7 is fine, my bad! I will take a shot then:
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Critical???: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Elder GM

That actually was a critical, because the drake hadn't acted before Slei and was flat-footed.

Additional Crit damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8

Slei and Grodar each take 5 points of acid damage. Zigil and Giles each take 10 points, and they are entangled.

With the shield other Zigil cast on Giles, I think it's 5 points on Giles, and 15 on Zigil.

Male Elder GM

Correct.

Male Human Ranger (trapper) 4. HP: 40/40 AC: 19/13/16 F:+6 R:+7 W:+4 Init:+3 Perc: +9

Giles will attempt to break free of the entanglement.

Male Elder GM

At the start of their turns, Giles and Zigil will take some more acid damage. They may attempt another Reflex save to break free at the end of their turn. Of course, the acid damage would count as "contiuous damage" for the purposes of needing a concentration check to spellcast.

Eldan will move up at A4, “I need to position myself for a better shot. My spells are close range.”

Male Elder GM

Zigil is correct about the damage. Again.
Giles and Ziggy may act normally (though Entangled), and get a save at the end of their turn to escape. The entangling phlegm is stuck to the floor, so they cannot move. Any spellcasting would involve 2 concentration checks - one for Entangle, and one for ongoing damage. Alternatively, they may make a Strength or Escape Artist check as a standard action to get out.

If another one is applicable, I can fail that too: Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Male Human Druid 4, Init: +4, HP: 35/35, AC:21/14/18, F:+6, R:+4, W:+8, Perception:+4

Mannfred summons a giant spider to D3, then Mannfred and Dog move to C4 and C5 respectively, and defend from any attack. (Total defense)

If the spider gets a turn then presumably it would move up and attack

Male Elder GM

Sorry, Ziggy. I seem to have problems remembering posts right now. Zigil is still slimed.

Don't forget that the nest is difficult terrain.

The spider begins picking its way through the reeds that make up the nest, then sprays a web at the drake.
Thwip!: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 - 2 = 8
Unfortunately, the web falls short of where it needs to be to entangle the drake.

Male Elder GM

Slei moves up to where she can attack while still having Mannfred as a shield, and where she can soon get close enough to fully utilize her skills.
Thwack!: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Smack! The drake is hit again.

The drake springs forward and pounces on the nearby spider.
Pounce!: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 12 + 2 = 162d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 3) + 7 = 141d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 2 = 121d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
grab: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (20) + 18 = 38

Grodar will continue moving towards the drake after using a move action to gain the benefits of furious focus for 1 minute. How close can Grodar get? I thought he was able to move last turn, but I wasn’t sure exactly where the difficult terrain started.

Male Elder GM

Oops. After moving forward last turn, Grodar can get next to the drake. Would you still like your Furious Focus, or would you rather make an attack this round? Possible squares for Grodar are F4, G4, H4.

Male Half-orc Brawler 4 Init +1; Per +7; AC 18, T 12, F 16; HP 30/35; F +6, R +6, W +2

Eldan moves up to C2, says, “Ruin,” and gestures at the drake. A fiery red ray streaks from his fingertip.

Scorching Ray= 17 + 5 = 22 Not sure if the ‘in combat’ penalty applies as it is a large creature so it isn’t applied here.
Dmg= 5 + 4 + 4 + 4 + 1 = 18

Male Elder GM

"If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the –4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character."
In this case, the penalty would apply. However, an 18 touch attack is still plenty against the large drake, especially when it currently counts as Grappled.

The drake shrieks as Eldan's ray sears its flesh.

48 damage to the drake.
