Mirel |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
"That hole doesn't make a promising escape route..." Mirel whispers to anyone who will listen.
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan shrugs, before adding his two coppers, "Hey, if things turn sour, it may not be best for escape but good for them to only come at us one at a time. It's an easily defensible opening." with that he heads over to the rope ladder in the hole, tests it for sturdiness, and if satisfied leads the way down it.
EDIT: just saw that the map shows two mongrelmen in the room with us. Did we not see them, or are they not really there? If they are there, disregard Lirrathan's comments this post.
DM Pendin Fust |
They are there but they assume you are on business...to have made it in there without an alarm means you had to go through other guards. (They're lazy).
The air in this cavern smells of damp and mold. Water glistens on the walls, and collects in a stagnant pool along one wall. Two mongrelmen lazily point to you and say, "She's with Uziel...hehehe I'm sure it'll be some time 'fore she's ready to see anyone else."
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan just stares at him, like he's waiting for more from the mongrelman before asking, "Well, are we just supposed to stand here staring at one another, or could you maybe act like we are guests of Hosilla? Maybe get us somewhere to sit, or ask if we need anything to eat or drink?"
DM Pendin Fust |
The guards grunt a laugh and jerk a thumb to the door behind them. "Wait in there...surely it won't be long." Another round of guffaws comes from the bored guards.
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan just shakes his head in annoyance, all the while hiding his own self-congratulations for being able to pull this off getting them up to this point. He leads on through the door indicated, hoping this is the last small room they have to pass through to get to this woman.
DM Pendin Fust |
Three copper bowls filled with glowing coals hang from the ceiling of this long, natural cavern. The braziers fill the chamber with warmth and soft orange light. In the center of the chamber stands a block of stone that serves as a table, lined with wooden chairs. An enormous bloodstain, maybe a week old, darkens the stone’s surface.
Hmmm...how will we get Hosilla's attention :)
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan looks about the room, making sure there are no longer any of the guards they passed. "First we need to block the door we just came in, we don't want any rude interruptions. We got two doors, which one is it?"
Mirel |
Mirel moves to each door and listens for the sounds of lustmaking.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
DM Pendin Fust |
Mirel |
"The north door." Mirel says confidently. "I hear nothing behind the south door." Mirel takes up a position at the door, ready to fight.
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan looks to the three others with them, Worm, Hobbles and Blinky, before asking, Hey, can you three see about barricading that door we came in while this goes down? We probably don't have much use for you during the fight, unless you're decent with that bow Hobbles?" With that he draws both of his swords, disregarding the new morningstar until he feels he really needs it.
"Here's what I'm doing. Once we are ready to go, we rush in and totally get the jump on her. Guessing she's the only woman in the room, so should be easy to pick a target. So, I'm ready, are you guys?"
Lirrathan |
Hope no one minds, but I moved us all to roughly where I figure we may setup on the map.
Seeing that everyone looks to be ready to go, Lirrathan steps beside the door and opens it, ready to rush in as soon as he does so.
DM Pendin Fust |
The sight that greets your eyes is a bizarre one. A male tiefling is on his knees, a book open on the floor before him. A stern woman with a whip in her hand stops with hand mid flight for another lashing on the tiefling.
The woman says shortly, "Who are you and how dare you interrupt?"
You all get a surprise round. Roll init with your action so I can put you in an order."
Lirrathan |
Init 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Lirrathan smirks, his eyes alight with the thrill of a fight, "We're the ones that are gonna put a stop to your cult."
Edit: Oh yeah, duh, my action
With his statement he also rushes into the room to put the sword to the woman.
Charge also, 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 + 1 = 15, if that hits 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10.
AC down to 15
Edit2: added the bonus for being Altered
Arcessentes |
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Surprise Round.
Unhappy with what he finds going on, the wizard simply blasts the woman with magic.
Magic Misssile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Surrender or I shall bast you a second time!
Round 1.
Arc this time readies to blast the woman should she try to attack any of his friends in any way.
Magic Misssile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Terry the thief |
init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Bow Attack w/ PBS & Precise & Cover: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 17 Assuming at least one of these guys goes through the door before I can shoot, which the init says may be a bad assumption!
damage w/ PBS & Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (2) = 5 Assuming flat-footed, too. Wow. That roll sucked. Trade off for the good attack roll, I guess.
"bast"? Are you going to convert her to the ancient Egyptian goddess of cats, baste her, or blast her? I think any of them could be funny! Yeah, I know. Like I never typo . . .."
Mirel |
Oh if only I had whip mastery...
Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Mirel casts command (DC 14) on the woman. "FALL!"
DM Pendin Fust |
Init Hosilla: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Init Uziel: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Arc - 23
Terry - 20
Hosilla - 19
Lirrathan - 15
Mirel - 13
Freya - 11
Uziel - 6
Arc's missile slams into the woman and she screams in anger. Terry's arrow quickly follows a blink of an eye later and manages to draw a cut on her shoulder. Lirrathan comes barreling in but steps on something awkward at the last second, barely missing the woman with his strike. Mirel's command falls upon deaf ears. Freya's whip sword bites deeply into her leg and she screams in pain.
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Arcessentes concentrates on the woman intently.
Terry, let's get your R1 actions. Everyone else post your actions for R1 and I'll adjudicate.
Depending on Terry's actions...
The woman takes a small step behind the tiefling and pulls a vial from her pouch at her hip and drinks it.
Cure Moderate: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3) + 3 = 9
Terry the thief |
Map suggests Terry still has a clear line of fire. Description of actions leaves me not expecting that to be true . . ..
Terry draws another arrow and lets fly, hoping to get lucky enough to keep this from getting ugly.
Bow Attack w/ PBS & Precise & Cover: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 + 1 - 4 = 17 I'm leaving the penalty for you to include (or not) for the doorway as you feel appropriate.
Damage w/ PBS & Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + (4) = 11
Lirrathan |
Round 1
Lirrathan tucks and rolls to get past the tiefling, and comes up ready to strike at the woman in her protective posture. He draws his other blade, while he enters, but can't quite bring it to bear just yet, so he makes up for it by trying hit extra hard one-handed.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Long sword Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18, if it hits, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
DM Pendin Fust |
Positions are correct, she was standing right in front of the "door". So no penalty Terry.
Terry's next arrow catches a deep and surprising hit on the woman, almost dropping her to her knees. Lirrathan executes a perfect combat roll and comes in with his sword whipping out, hamstringing the woman. She falls down this time in a pool of blood.
Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 - 3 ⇒ (10) + 1 - 3 = 8
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Blood continues to seep from underneath her limp form. The tiefling screams in rage and spreads his hands out...but nothing happens.
Arcessentes |
The wizard shifts his focus to the Tiefling with the same ready. You will not get a spell off Tiefling. Save yourself and surrender.
DM Pendin Fust |
The tiefling's lips quiver for a moment in rage. But he takes his hand away from the swordhilt at his belt. He stays on his knees and puts both hands on the ground. "Then help her now." he says simply.
Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 - 4 = 1
Lirrathan |
Lirrathan growls in frustration, turns, and kicks over the nearby chair. "What the in the hells? Are we going to offer quarter to every single thing we fight at the first hand we're dealt, dragging along a train of 'honorable' prisoners everywhere we go?" With that he stomps out of the room, sheathes his blades, and takes a seat at the big table with arms crossed and feet up on it.
Mirel |
"This is not what we promised Chief Sull. They both need to be killed." Mirel wwhispers in Freya's ear, obviously irritated.

Terry the thief |
Except that we weren't going back, this was on our way to the surface!
"I don't understand what's going on here." Terry glares at Freya before turning to the Tiefling. "And YOU are going to have to start explaining things to me. Pretend I don't know anything, and start telling the story."
Mirel |
Don't we need to go back to Neattholm in order to tell them that we have dealt with the cultists anyway? But the point is, we told Chief Sull we would eliminate them... so we are going back on our word to him?
"So how are we going to do this?" Mirel whispers to Terry. "Now we have to escort three civilians as well as 2 prisoners through a place that for all we know is a well fortified encampment!"
