Terry the thief |

"Bastion? Right. I'm Terry."
As the discussion moves on to what/where to go next . . ..
"Well, I would think that the obvious headquarters and supply points would have been targeted for destruction early in the assault. There would be no point in heading for one of those location until we find someone to provide our information to." Terry thinks for a moment. "I'm guessing that the hidden Riftwarden stronghold is likely to be one of the best supplied and defended locations left. They would be people who can decide whether the traitor information is still worth having or not, and they might be able to help us figure out a safe way out of or through the remains of town so that Horgus can eventually actually see the inevitable destruction of his manse. I figure the Eagle Watch should be a good second stop, because they should have more information about the situation out and about."

Arcessentes |

Arcessentes agrees. It seems the Riftwardens are the closest, so my vote is to make the library our first stop. Perhaps we will learn more along the way. Does everyone agree?

Sir Bastion |

"Let us be off then. With Iomedae's blessings we will find other survivors."
With a few short whistles, soon followed by a couple of barks in the distance, you see a gray haired mastiff bounding towards Sir Bastion.
"This is Jokum."

DM Pendin Fust |

1d100 ⇒ 42
1d6 ⇒ 3
As you are walking along towards the Blackwing Library you see the signs of the demonic attack everywhere. Buildings smashed and blood smearing rubble. Limbs stick out at odd angles from some mounds of building. You have yet to see people in the streets or anyone in the windows of what buildings are left standing. Your eyes happen upon one such building with a sign that is hanging by one side that says Fine Fittings. You hear some glass shattering and a scream from inside.
Looking into the window shows you 3 humanoid looking creatures with dark skin and small horns. They look remarkably like Hosilla's pet guard.
Another disgustingly portly humanoid's back is to the window and it is growling.

DM Pendin Fust |

Up to you. It would only be a couple of hours or so since you were first in the traitorous mongrels' lair. If you want to retcon trying to find a safe place to sleep we can do that.

Arcessentes |

Just need to know if I have spells or not. If not Arc is pretty useless in a fight. He may have pushed to rest if there had been a safe place before the surface. On the other hand he might have wanted to push to the surface where its safe. :)

Terry the thief |

Terry waves at the others, and motions them back away from the building. He whispers "Looks like three of the things Hosilla had with her, and something else that's kinda like a pot-bellied human. Do we want to deal with them, or sneak past and try to deliver the information?"

Lirrathan |

Lirrathan smiles, his teeth showing through his uncontrolled grin, as he whispers back to Terry so as to not give themselves away. "Oh, I've been itching for a good fight ever since you guys took those two prisoners. Besides, all you preachy 'do the right thing' types are gonna want to... well do the right thing. So I say we fight. It's not like Blinky and Hobbles would be all that good at sneaking in their state, and I'm guessing it would be 'beneath' Gwerm to even try." His hands eagerley readjusting their grips on his two blades.
Arc, did you use many spells since we left Neatholm, I don't recall? Because we rested there.
GM, now that we are making our way through the ruined city, Lirrathan would return to scout mode a couple paces ahead, but I forgot to mention it. When we move out again, I will put up rolls for those.

Sir Bastion |

Leaning in to join the whispers, Sir Bastion asks "I like your way of thinking Lirrathan. Move in quickly and 'do the right thing'." He slowly draws his sword as he continues, "Can one of you tell me if we face Demons, Cultists, or Survivors?"

I figured Lirrathan, that's why I'm letting you all notice the tieflings and other thing first :)
You all have a Surprise round. Go ahead and give me your Surprise actions. The door to the shop is open and the front is mainly glass (display). You are all about 30 ft from any of the creatures inside.
Just setting up init order:
Terry Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Sir Bastion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Arc: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Lirrathan: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Mirel: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Init:

DM Pendin Fust |

I haven't put it together yet. I will as soon as I can!

Lirrathan |

Despite Lirrathan's eagerness to fight, he is not overly reckless when it comes to battle. With four enemies in the shop, rushing in would put him against all at once. He instead moves up to just outside the door to the building, allowing allies to stand beside him, all while funneling the enemy one at a time at him.
Move to the space outside the door that would set it up like above, with empty spaces beside me, but only 1 space to the front.

Terry the thief |

Terry takes a shot at whichever of the opponents he thinks he has the best shot at . . ..
You said about 30' away, so I'm going to milk it for all the bonuses I can!
Ranged Attack vs Flat-Footed w/i 30' w/ Bless: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 10
Not that it mattered in the least. <sigh>

DM Pendin Fust |

Yep, and flat footed is still higher than that! Boo.
Arc, it's a surprise round so you can cast OR move.
Tiefling1 Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
??? Init: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6
Tiefling2 Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Tiefling3 Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Assuming Mirel moves closer.
The shot from Terry crashes into the glass and shatters the window. Noone is hit but they stop whatever activities they are doing and turn towards you. The short and deformed creature turns to reveal a face of hideousness and grotesque features. It drops a particularly fine piece of clothing it was shredding.
Init:
Tiefling1
Bastion
Lirrathan
Tiefling2

The first Tiefling screams in surprise and shoots a bolt back at Terry.

Oh, right. Arc casts his spell and 5' steps just to be contrary. :P
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Beating the Planes roll by 5, does Arc know anything specific about these creatures, like, say, DR?

Sir Bastion |

Kn Planes: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Kn Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Does the creature have any Special Abilities?
Do we know the traits of the various types and subtypes already? i.e Does Sir Bastion already know what the general Demon immunities are?
Seeing the choke point that Lirrathan wants to create, Sir Bastion moves forward to stand to the left rear side of Lirrathan, and points his longsword at a spot for Jokum to go.
"Jokum, Guard." he orders forcefully.

The way I generally run knowledge checks like this is: for every 5 you beat the DC you can ask for something from 1 of 4 categories. Offense, Defense, Special Abilities, or Ecology. You pick a category (or the same one multiple times if you want) and I will relay something(s).

DM Pendin Fust |

DM Pendin Fust |

Sorry folks, I COMPLETELY missed that you were waiting on me. I thought I was waiting on Bastion :) My bad!!! Update coming in an hour or so.

DM Pendin Fust |

Lirrathan and Bastion line up to form part of a killing ground in front of the shop door. Another tiefling runs forward towards the door to get to Terry. Lirrathan and Bastion, you can take an AoO. He raises a cruel looking shortsword and swings at Terry.
Charge + Shortsword: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8
But his swipe goes wide as he is surprised by the two lining the door.
Arc and Mirel up.

Arcessentes |

no Map? Arc needs to see where the enemy is if he is to use his color spray effectively and not catch party members in it. He also needs to know if the tiefling survives the aoos.

Sir Bastion |

AoO

DM Pendin Fust |

Still working on the map...Work's been crazy after some massive layoffs. The tiefling does survive the AoO but takes the damage.

Lirrathan |

Sorry, on the night shift.
Lirrathan relishes the opportunity to open up an enemy that tries to run past him. Although his angle is a little of from expecting them to face off against him.
Attack with Radiance 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, if it hits 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Hopefully the charge dropped its AC enough for that to hit.

DM Pendin Fust |

With the charge that JUST hits :).
The charging tiefling goes down in surprise at the two swift attacks against him. He seems to be breathing and not in any danger of dying but he is unconscious.
Updated the map for WotR - B under my name. Please rearrange yourselves if I don't have it right. Mirel, I need you action after Arc, who is likely to color spray.

Arcessentes |

Yep.
Arc moves up into the doorway and blasts a barrage of colors over the two remaining Tieflings and the demon.
Color Spray: 15" cone-shaped burst, DC 16 Will save negates. 2HD or less = unconscious, blinded and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds +1 round stunned. 3-4 HD = blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds +1 round stunned. 5 or more HD = stunned for 1 round.
As he sees into the room and notes the mirrors he comments to the others Hey, those mirrors could be used against the demon. They hate mirrors and will generally attack them if they are presented.

DM Pendin Fust |

Tiefling 2 Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Tiefling 3 Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Abrikandilu Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The first tiefling laughs as the colors wash over him. The second screams briefly and stiffens and falls to the floor. The demon roars incomprehensibly and shakes it head. Stunned: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Tiefling 3 is unconscious currently. Abrikandilu is blind and stunned. Tiefling 1 is unconscious. Terry, Bastion, and Lirrathan you are up.

Terry the thief |

Terry scoots in through the door, getting close to the active opponent as he steps through it, but then he tumbles away from the threat, trying to avoid getting hit when he uses his bow on the less resistant opponents . . ..
Acrobatics (Defensive Tumble) w/ AC penalty: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 8 - 1 = 18
Once he gets into position, he lets an arrow fly at the still standing, blinded and stunned opponent.
Ranged Attack w/ PBS & Bless: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 13
Meh. Maybe.
Ranged Damage w/ Sneak Attack & PBS: 1d6 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + (5) + 1 = 11

Lirrathan |

Lirrathan moves into the room casually, with a nod of surprised appreciation at Arc. He swaggers between all the hindered enemies, confident that they couldn't hit him if they tried, before bringing his fancy new blade to bear on the one remaining conscious demon.
Move in, since none can take AoO's
Attack the Abrik 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Sir Bastion |

"Jokum, send the minion of Deskari to The Boneyard. Kill!" Sir Bastion commands pointing at the tiefling at his feet.
Handle Animals: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
He then moves in to threaten the next tieflings and provide cover for Arcessentes.
Jokum:
Not sure if an animal can do a Coup de Grace or not, so I'll roll twice and await your decision.

DM Pendin Fust |

Terry's shot, although seemingly bad at first, finds its mark in the tiefling. The lanky man falls to ground, bleeding from wound.
Con Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 Failed. -2 hp now.
Lirrathan's slice into the demon causes a silent scream of pain to wash over its face. Extra Damage against the demon: 1d6 ⇒ 2 10 total damage done to it. Lirrathan, you get a 1d6 bonus on damage against demons with Radiance.
Jokum's vicious bite tears into the tiefling. Fort Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 The teeth latch onto the carotid artery as the animal rips the throat out of the now dead tiefling. Yes an animal can CdG in my book.
You guys can pretty much just act. The demon still has 4 rounds of paralysis and the 2 remaining tieflings are unconscious.

Arcessentes |

Confident that the party can clean up the mess after his spell, the wizard casts detect Magic and begins to search the shop for the person calling out for help. Its ok to come out now. The threat is ended.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Note that Arc is looking both for the caller, and things of value/use.

DM Pendin Fust |

Arc notices a door to a small room across from where Terry is standing. As he goes to it he hears a muffled voice. Throwing up the door (with a spell in mind and at the ready) he sees a man bound and gagged.
Taking off the gag the man works his mouth and says, "Thank you, thank you! That demon...and those...men. They were destroying my shop! All my fine clothing...the demon seemed to hate it."

Arcessentes |

Yes, that type of demon cannot stand things of beauty. Your shop has been damaged, but you seem unhurt. We have only now come into the city. What can you tell us about its situation?

Sir Bastion |

Sir Bastion comes into the room where the bound man is at to listen to his story, while concentrating on the man to see if an Abyssal taint has fallen on him.
Detect Evil on the man.
"Terry, do you need that wound tended to?

No evil detected.
"The demons...attacked! The whole city is in ruins...demons running rampant and killing everyone in sight. I holed up here in my shop...but that demon stopped at my door...when it turned in and I looked at it..." the man whimpers and shakes. "Then those devil horned men came in and shouted something at it. They tied me up and threw me in this room. Thank you for rescuing me...thank you! I don't have much anymore...but please take some clothing. Whatever's left anyways. I am leaving and heading southeast. Gotta get away from this place."
You can all find the equivalent to a noble outfit.

Terry the thief |

"Thank you, Bastion. Patching up never seems a bad choice. Let's make sure these things are down and done first, though." And Terry goes to join Lirrathan in ending this particular demonic threat.

Sir Bastion |

I did not see them on the map so I figured they were dispatched. If not, Jokum will tear into their necks.
Iomedea, focus your strength through your servant, so that this man may fight on in the your holy crusade."
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Lirrathan |

As part of the 'clean-up crew' Lirrathan spends more of his attentions on making sure the dead are just that, and seeing what they have on them of any worth. After Arc helps the shopkeep, he just turns down the offer of fancy clothing, "Nah, the fancier you dress, the more of a target you are. Besides, if I'm doing what I want they will just get all bloody anyways."

Mirel |

Mirel is visibly excited about the thought of new clothes. She picks out an outfit that best suits her side trade. "Oh, this is just lovely! Thank you!"
