DM Olondir presents "It's Always Sunny in the Stolen Lands" - Chapter 1

Game Master Olondir

A delicious stew consisting of plenty of Rise of the Runelords fun, Game of Thrones intrigue, Luck the hero horse, while being tied together with a marvelous Kingmaker broth. Simply delicious.

What? Really!? Why didn't anyone tell me that before I threw up in your tent!?! And before I opened the episode crying alone?

You can still get established as The Emo One. You'll have your fan base.

Bregan will certainly be purchasing some motley clothes for Ravens once things calm down... before undertaking any long journeys.

Man, looks like i couldn't even see 2 men on a horse ride by with that perception roll...tho otherwise I'm doing my part to keep the pilot awesome

I sure hope everyone's having fun and no one is feeling neglected or annoyed at me for my mistakes or anything. I am trying to balance giving everyone their share of the spotlight while keeping things on track and on pace for what I have planned. The kinks should be out of the system as we progress though season 1.

Ps having fun so far

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

Whoa... that was weird. I saw a new post in my RSS reader from Areanna, but then when I went to the thread, the post was gone!

Hit refresh, post was back, but different from the one in my reader, so I hit refresh again... gone again! Now it's back...?!

Male Gnome Summoner 1

My apologies, but I will be withdrawing from this campaign. I Am having difficulties finding time and motivation to post as often as I'd like. Good luck!

Aww! I'm sorry to see you go buddy. I felt like you were sort of out of it and I figured it to be my fault for not including you. Well thanks for letting me know. Safe Travels!

I guess this means we have an opening. I'll DMPC Tiomir for the remainder of this fight until we figure out things from here.

Sorry about being confusing, Areanna. I hope I clarifed things. If you want to, you could keep a tracker of your bardic music in your posts. Like Free action: Bardic Music: 3/7 rounds used so far). This way I don't have to judge when you have it going and it should be counted.

Do you guys want me to include a basic stat-block for your enemies? I could post HP, Saves, and AC of the enemies in a spoiler to speed things up in combat, reduce blue-crunch, and give you guys the freedom to describe your actions. In return, I'll only ask that you guys don't abuse knowing the numbers and metagame too hard.

I wouldn't mind. But I'm not going to be doing most of the attacking...

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

Sorry to see you go Patcher!

Do we draw from a sub from the original recruitment thread?

At this point, someone who comes running into our current combat is as meshed with the current party as anyone else (saving except perhaps Bregan's horse and Ravens who share a special bond).

Do both the knight and mount have to make a reflex save or become entangled or just the mount?

Yeah. I need to find Jasper or Holbrecht and see if they want in. I'll work with them about their first on-screen appearance.

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

On the entangle - I'd think that's DM's choice.

I'd suggest it depends on the length of the plants/roots/etc and which direction they are coming from.

If he was next to a tree, then both need to make it as the tree grabs both. If it's grass and roots and the horse makes the save, they may be able to avoid it. If the horse fails the save, it might flail around and in the jostling, it's rider would then have to attempt a save.

DM's choice, that's just my thinking.

EDIT -- I share a game with both Jasper and Holbrecht - who did you want to ask first?

Since it is grass I was going to make the call it is just the mount who needs to make the save. I just didn't want to write up a post and swindle Ravens out of his attempt at battlefield control.

Lol. No worries, I think this is the right call.

Swindle away! ;)

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

What? Bregan never shot him!

He simply rode up between two buildings and readied to defend himself.

Maybe Lionel was charmed? Yeah, that's it... he was charmed.

Guilty by association, good sir.

You guys are going to have one HELL of a time explaining this after things are said and done.

Just being curious- why did everyone think he was evil? If he was evil why were the bandits running away and hiding at the sounds and signs of his approach?

This might be bad DM ettiquete, but I honestly did not plan this encounter to go quite this way. Attacking Ser Lionel took me by quite a surprise. I didn't want to tell you guys you were wrong and I wanted to see what would happen.

Valeska I don't know what you did to that dice roller but it seriously could not have been more better when you got those harrow cards. First that, then Ser Bregan killing Ser Lionel/pool of blood prophecy and betrayal, geesh! Talk about self-fufilling prophecies. How can you NOT take harrower after this?

Actually, I'm not sure why Lionel charged Bregan. In theory, some unknown archer was taking shots from a few buildings over and Lionel should have been going that direction.

Ravens did lay down the Entangle, but did Lionel know and recognize that from his position?

I dunno.

It's all good. We'll see what happens next.

Also, I didn't attack anyone. I don't even know who these other people are.

Just stating it for the record, officer.

Friendly fire is not very friendly. Everyone has seen people turn on eachother this afternoon. The only thing left sometimes that you can rely on is your gut instinct. He was expecting an ambush and seeing Vishoon on the far side of a street and Ser Bregan nearby. Well an ambush is what he thought and an ambush is what he got, I guess. It also didn't help that he thought Ser Bregan was a more of a jerk than Ravens thought of to begin with. We'll never know for sure now.

This has been exciting!

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

Ah, I thought you planned it this way. I was going to commend you on it, even.

My 2c...

Bregan's a neutral knight with a readied action who rode in from the side of battle. He disliked Lionel from the first moment he was insulted by him. He could have even drawn first blood and got away with it (being in alignment, and not having a deity to face repercussions with).

Lionel's (presumably) a lawful good paladin. The burden is on Lionel to ascertain the validity of drawing first blood and charging at Bregan or face consequences next time he prays to Erastil. Unless Lionel was under a charm or enchantment to believe otherwise.

At this very moment, Bregan presumes Lionel charging at him is validation of his suspicions that something wasn't right with Lionel and he is in fact a "bad guy". The verdict is still out on the other men with him (were they tricked by Lionel, or are they really part of some conspiracy to attack the bride and groom?).

Male Human (Varisian)
DM Olondir wrote:

Indeed.

I'm actually feeling a small amount of "not-hate" for Bregan...he reminds me a bit of McNaulty from the Wire now. A guy that you either love or hate...

I don't know what is going to happen next, but I'll keep performing CPR on Lionel and hope for a divine miracle.

I don't want anyone to die and just want Syra to be safe.

Ser Lionel saw guards turning on one another killing men women and children. Also, he probably hated you as much as you hated him. He just didn't like you. A mix of simply not liking your attitude and personality along with being jealous that you were the favorite of the expedition of Peitros.

He thought Ser Bregan was in league with whomever shot the arrow that hit his friends. I guess we can agree that it was believable (somewhat) in-character mistakes on both sides in the heat of the moment.

The fact that you believe so strongly that Ser Bregan is in the right makes this even more juicy and fun and believable! You literally killed a paladin and here we have more than one person standing up for you! That isn't something you see everyday in a game. At least not for me anyways.

Ser Bregan Stone wrote:

I take it all back. 100% all me. Yessir.

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

Oh, I'm not saying Bregan was "in the right".

He did what he did based on his current personality, which is grey (I did want him to begin the campaign as true neutral).

I prefer to set him on the path of good after some time, so he wouldn't knowingly murder a lawful good paladin.

I don't think what Bregan did was evil, he attacked a man that charged and almost killed him, and still gave him two chances to yield. I'm not saying what he did was good, but my hope is it isn't evil.

Oooh, alignment discussions! Fun fun!

I think the ball is in the court of the other "men" here, now.

EDIT - I know there's confusion here, and with the OOC banter we all presume that Lionel and his men are actually good (since we know a paladin was involved).

Bregan's perspective, not knowing Erastil/paladins is that he truly believes Lionel is a turncoat and traitor. He feels reasonably certain that Lionel is in league with the men who attempted to violate Shelaina. So I'll likely continue to RP him as such until evidence proves the contrary.

Oh don't worry bro. You acted in a way which you thought was good and so did Lionel. Keep up the roleplaying. (that goes for everyone)

Discovering character's personalities is more than alignments anyways. Your character's alignment is dictated by action.. not vice versa. That's why I like seeing roleplaying when recruiting. You get the personality and the alignment kind of just comes along naturally. Here you have an incredible opportunity to define your characters through action and roleplay. I'm interested to see how everyone's characters handle it in the IC thread!

Well, the pool of blood wasn't my prophecy, but yeah, I think I'll end up being a Harrower now. Hmm, gotta plan on the Knowledge(Arcana), the Harrowed feat, the Divination spells...

And I've done tarot readings before, so it was funny to see the skill move over to the Harrow so readily!

hey guys I'll be away from home and unable to post a lot until Saturday night. I'll post when I can, but they'll have to be from my phone.

Wow you did tarot readings? No wonder you seemed so natural at reading Ravens' fortune.

Step Level Advancement system.

What do you guys think of this? Since we are already doing a fiat based system and it will be rather slow-paced I'm thinking this could let you guys feel accomplished between levels.

Also Holbrecht could join us as a rogue or Eric the paladin can join us.
Anyone have a preference? I'm afraid I already know Ravens' answer about another possible "knight" joining up with the group!

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

A lawful good paladin is much different than Bregan the knight, so I don't see a lot of overlap that route.

I really liked Holbrecht's roleplaying from the recruitment thread and would vote to replace the halfling with a dwarf for variety.

Vishoon has a distaste for the paladin, the explanation for bringing "civilization" to savage area, was not well received. If you don't mind some animosity between party members then we'll can see how things go, tho Vishoon would defiantly like Holbrecht more

Male Human (Varisian)

Step Advancement sounds interesting.

I prefer smaller, dedicated PbP groups of 4 or 5 rather than big groups of 6. However, I will join the will of the group. I know some prefer a more measured pace of game.

All good either way.

As for Tiomir's replacement, I agree with Ser Bregan that Holbrecht would be a great addition to the team.

Ok. Holbrecht is coming on-board and we'll be using step advancement.
