Appearance:

Bregan has auburn-colored hair and green eyes the color of a rainforest.

He stands 6'1" and weighs in at 202 lbs.

Background:

Better prose version coming soon... "Cliff Notes" version follows:

Like many bastards born in the shadow of Mt Veshika, Bregan inherited the surname of Stone to denote his low birth to a Brevic whore. His mother always claimed he was someone special, and his father was someone "very important". Yet she never told him who before she passed.

When he came of age, his mother apprenticed him to a client of hers - a barrister that had purchased a majority interest in a local quarry. Here, he performed menial tasks and errands when not running about in the shadows of the city with the rabble he thought were his friends.

At ten and four, he spotted a beauty riding a horse in town - Genna was her name. From that day forward, when not performing odd tasks, he would spend his time there working with horses - just to catch a glimpse of her and hope for the rare moment they could talk. When around her, he felt different - not the hardened boy from the streets, but a free man who could finally feel the warmth of the sun on his face.

Yet, the barrister that oft visited his mother was married and she foolishly believed the man would leave his wife and marry her instead. Eventually, his mother's insistence was mistaken as blackmail, and the barrister panicked and decided the best way to resolve the situation was an "accident". While the man succeeded in killing his mother, Bregan survived, and the barrister was found guilty and imprisoned for his crimes for ten years. The quarry was sold to a competitor and closed. The man should have hung - but with his wealth, avoided the noose. Note: This was 7-8 years ago, so he may be free soon on good behavior...

Now a man of ten and nine, Bregan took up dangerous work as an outrider with a company of Sellswords known as The Kupfer Falken - escorts from Eagle's Watch that warded off the hill tribes and brigands along the trade routes.

He had specifically taken this work to get more time around Genna who had grown of an age where she was accompanying the shipment's of her father's business, The Brice Company - a merchant house that would rear and transport livestock and horses throughout Brevoy. Unfortunately, as a mere common scout, he cemented the impossibility of ever having Genna for himself. By this time, as a young man, he no longer held the innocence of his youth, and his company of mercenaries and sellswords had set him into some bad habits. After a particular heated discussion where Genna called him a "filthy thug", he never saw reason to take a job for The Brice Company again. Instead, he found himself better, more willing company.

Unbeknownst to Bregan, in his sixth year of service, a job of his was to escort a wagon with Gregor Orlovsky en route to New Stetvan, traveling under the guise of a member of the gemcutter's guild. Sure enough, bandits (or assassin's or kidnappers? -- it wasn't clear), descended upon the travelers. When all hope appeared lost, Bregan went to the wagon to grab a handful of gems and escape for his life. His greed took him directly into the path of an arrow meant for Gregor, and Bregan saved the noble son's life. Somehow, the assailants were driven off by the few remaining (disguised) members of the Orlovsky house guard, but the Kupfer Falken were decimated with only Bregan surviving.

Orlovsky praised his heroism, mistaking his greed for heroic sacrifice and insisted the young man be knighted for his courage.

He has been encouraged to take on a new last name and claim some obscure holdings somewhere in the "Stolen Lands", but has yet to pursue this offer knowing these parts are wild, untamed and without something major transpiring, a vacant reward.

Personality:

The lowborn who rode his luck... is it ending?

In the presence of the Orlovsky's, Bregan will put on a proper act, saying 'your lordship' with the appropriate air of dignity. The same acts he used in the shadows of the city to get his way, or pull a "con" in his teens.

The barrister? Truth be told, he planned to kill the barrister several times, but things just never worked out. That, or he was too lazy (or in the later years, too drunk) to see it through.

Seems he's been lucky, whenever he's needed to eat and drink, a job comes his way, or he's lucky enough to take an arrow for some noble.

If he just waits enough, things fall into place - no need to work too hard.

Maybe if he takes another arrow for an Orlovsky, they'll upgrade his obscure holdings into something more interesting and already developed, saving the hard work of having to drive bandits off whatever hell-hole they say they were going to give him.

Bregar begins as a lazy, self-serving, arrogant bastard (literally).

Motivations and Aspirations:

He will serve the Orlovsky family as they require him, having no other obvious course to pursue until he fully realizes his own ambitions. At this point, he feels some need to prove those judging him unworthy wrong (even if at the moment they are right that he didn't deserve to be knighted).

Ideally, at some point (after a few levels), he grows more likable and honorable... :)

Animal Companion:

Bregar rides his "Luck" both metaphorically and literally.

Something in the spirit of a "crochet hat" - a clay cup that Bregan made when he was 5 years old that says 'Worlds Best Mom'. Bregan will often drink from this.

Something for the Bastard campaign trait - a signet ring with an abstract animal - is it a dragon? a hawk? it's hard to tell.

Something to remember Genna by: Luck's saddle was a gift
