DM Olondir presents "It's Always Sunny in the Stolen Lands" - Chapter 1

Game Master Olondir

A delicious stew consisting of plenty of Rise of the Runelords fun, Game of Thrones intrigue, Luck the hero horse, while being tied together with a marvelous Kingmaker broth. Simply delicious.

Welcome to the It's Always Sunny OOC thread and congratulations on being selected!

Role Call/Dramatis personæ
1. Ser Bregan Stone
2. Areanna Dilante
3. Ravens
4. Valeska
5. Tiomir
6. Vishoon

Now that you all have been selected, I'll go over your characters once more and make sure everything looks good and we're ready to begin.

Rules:

Races- Standard only, please

Classes - All classes and archetypes from Core, APG, and ISWG will be allowed. ANYTHING FROM UM/UC WILL BE ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS

Ability Scores - 15 Point Buy I want to keep this game a little bit tough for you PCs. Don't worry too much, though. Since I will be doing story-based leveling this game and with everything I have a lot in store for you, you guys should be just fine!

Alignment - Good or Neutral Only Please.

Feats - Core, APG, ISWG. Once again, other sources must be approved by me.

Traits - Standard 2 traits

Hit Points - Max at first, average + 1 for every level after

Starting Gold - Average

Starting level - 1

I'll put up the IC game after I have reviewed everyone's sheet. I hope I can make this game truly something great and be a fair GM for everyone. I may make a mistake here and there regarding a ruling or applying a bonus to something, but then again who doesn't? I don't mind if you call me out on an error. I think I'll make it up to you all with style!

To anyone who'd like to send me their HeroLab character file or will wish to contact me privately, my gmail is Olondir.

Are we all ok with running initiative in a block form? If you do not know what that means, I will take the average initiative for the party and your enemies to see who goes first. This way you all may post in any order and we don't have to wait an entire day for one of us to post before moving on. I understand this mitigates the advantages of initiative boosting but I think that is a small price to pay to speed up combats.

Your Humble Narrator

Lurk.

Thank you. I'll double-check my character's sheet and possibly change some spells and evolutions around (if that's okay)...

No problem, Patcher! Make changes how you see fit.

Male Gnome Summoner 1

Since I've been accepted, I can comfortably use the profile I've made -

I was wondering about some of the class features for the Summoner - specifically the Eidolon. You already mentioned I could change the fluff around the dismissal of the eidolon, or rather, how the eidolon works while sleeping/unconscious - essentially, that it is powerless (as if it wasn't there at all) in these circumstances.

The Eidolon class feature states that summoning the eidolon (or re-powering Rufus, in this case) takes 1 minute - dismissing him (or de-powering) him is a Standard action - I'm wondering if the same mechanic can apply here? Depowering him also makes him useless (though in-character, he is still there) - this becomes relevant since the Summon Monster class feature is unusable while the Eidolon is in play, and I do want to take advantage of it. Is this okay?

In regards of Rufus and death, if he dies, dismissal happens as normal.

Is this okay? Gameplay-wise, it changes nothing. As I stated in the recruitment topic, I don't want any mechanical benefit for the fluff.

Female Half-Elf Witch 2 - HP: 16/16 - Init: +1 - Fort/Ref/Will: +2/+1/+4 - Perception: +7 - AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 - CMD: 12

Here's Valeska's character. She should be complete. I had thought about changing around the Cauldron Hex, but I think it will prove useful, in conjunction with her spell list.

Biggest possible hangups:

She took the Water Child alternate racial feature. I don't think it should change much.

She might take the Harrowed feat at a later level. I don't yet know if I want her to become a Harrower or just stay a Witch. Will that be all right?

Lurking! Have fun everyone!

Permission granted. I like the flavor you're going for and lets go with those fluffy changes you're suggesting.

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

Okay, Areanna is set an ready to go. I really like how she looks, Archer, Skill monkey, and Arcane. Very versatile. Excellent. Olondir, thank you for this opportunity to play along such talented folks such as these. The stage is set and Areanna is ready for the performance of a lifetime......playing in a sandbox

Male Gnome Summoner 1

Areanna and Tiomir are very similar in that regard. Both archers, both arcane.

Female Half-Elf Witch 2 - HP: 16/16 - Init: +1 - Fort/Ref/Will: +2/+1/+4 - Perception: +7 - AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 - CMD: 12

I'd think Valeska is more the pure arcanist, but is also the party's healer-buffer. Her damage output is pathetic, right now.

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

Thanks for the invite. I'll take a look at Bregan today and sort out what else he needs to be completed.

@Areanna: I had a hunch you'd make it, you had a solid submission. Congrats!

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

OK, I think Bregan's ready.

Finished starting purchases, sorted out what he carries and his horse carries.

Figured out Luck's (companion horse) stats, tricks, feats, etc.

Swapped the Lookout feat for Precise Strike since Lookout is more advantageous for standard Initiative orders.

EDIT - Took a look at Valeska. Your Init should be +3 right? +1 from Dex and +2 from the Alertness feat?

Also I don't see what your free Skill Focus feat went to?

Harrowed is just fine. Stuff at work is holding me back from checking everyone and converting everyone into HeroLab. I'll have to split those roles for now and just hopefully check everyone while I'm here at work. Then I'll post up the IC thread when I'm home.

So we are all in agreement that the block initative system is fine?

Female Half-Elf Witch 2 - HP: 16/16 - Init: +1 - Fort/Ref/Will: +2/+1/+4 - Perception: +7 - AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 - CMD: 12

Alertness doesn't give +2 Initiative. It gives +2 Perception and +2 Sense Motive.

Also, Valeska has the Water Child alternate racial feature, which replaces Adaptability and Multitalented. She doesn't get Skill Focus, but can swim really well, instead.

Fine with me!

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

I missed the detail about block initiative. Im gonna have to change my warrior of old trait.

Male Human (Varisian)

I will myself from the aether. Let me exist!

**rawr of raw primal energy**

**POP!**

A human male presence enters the thread.

Thank you again for having me. I am honored.

I have sent a draft to you Olondir via gmail. I shall have it polished up and re-sent later today. And I'll have this alias fleshed out as well.

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

@Valeska: Ah, my bad.

@Ravens: Sneaky, e-mail drafts eh? What are you up to....?

I noticed we didn't end up with either of the 2 applicants that had high Disable Device (Holbrecht's +11 or Jasper's +15)...

Hopefully there's not many locks or traps in our future?

They are sneaky, evil plans! I can't tell you them.

But don't go boar hunting after drinking a lot.
And definitely don't get married to a woman wearing a bejewelled hairset.
And don't stand alone in a tent wearing rosed armor with a woman knight.
And don't stand looking over the edge of a windprison in a castle built on a mountain.
And....

M Human Cavalier 1 (Gendarme)

As long as you set a crown of gold upon my head, I'll be alright...

Are you looking for Kingmaker traits, or is anything going to do?

Male Human (Varisian)

DM Olondir--

About how old is Syra?

Do you have any problems with or house rules with crafting, specifically Scribe Scroll?

Edit: there is more flesh to my profile, but I tweak still.

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

Actually, given the mentioned need of disable device, I am going to rework it into my plot and use a trait that will make it a class skill. I need to do some tweaking. I'm also going to drop my wisdom to 8 and bolster my intelligence a bit. She isn't very wise but smart. I will Email the final product once I get home from work

haha no sneakiness. I like having copies of characters in HeroLab so I asked that anyone who has that program to send me their file to have on record.

I don't think magical traps will be much of a concern for you guys out in the wilderness. I'm not reading a script word-for-word here. If a challenge required you guys to get past some trap to continue and you don't have a rogue I'm not going to hold that against you guys. Also, if something is locked, you could always find or craft the "keys to the city." AKA: an adamantine mace.

I have no problems with crafting as long as you find the downtime to do it. That might be an issue as you explore, but when you are warm and cozy in your cities that would be just fine.

How old do you think Syra should be?

Male Human (Varisian)
DM Olondir wrote:

If we're going with a AGOT theme, then Syra is about 13 or 14, however that seems too young. I'd guess 16 or 17.

17 or 18 sounds about right.

Speaking of being right, every sheet I've checked looks good. We're still waiting on some of the others to join our little party but then we'll be all set.

Male Gnome Summoner 1

According to my backstory, I made the assumption that Syra was a lot older - in her late twenties. Tiomir met her when he was 73 (and she was likely 12 or 13) - and now it's 15 years later.

Of course, this can be changed, no worries, but I would like to know how old she actually is.

I'll try and send you my Heros LabFile when I get home. I have it on my laptop.
I may have missed if Keeping Mothers Rage trait from Orcs of Golarion Book was OK, its a lahmatsu trait.

Male 1/2 Orc Inquisitor of Lamashtu HP 11/11 AC 17/12 Touch/15 FF Fort: +4 Reflex: +2 Will: +6 Init: +6 CMB:+2 CMD:14

I understand for ease block initiative works best, so I may change my improved initiative feat.

In my mind I thought her to be around 20 or 21. Although GoT does make people marry young, I'm not so sure if Golarion mimics the modern days more. I figured people in love get married either around 20s - 30s. That being said, it is not uncommon for arranged marriages to be between 12-20. This one falls kind of between both at the 18-20 mark. She could have met you while you were still a TA or an adjunct while she studied abroad in Magnimar. ;)

In case there was any confusion, I'm not requiring you to take a trait from the KM players guide as one of the two traits.

Also, I was invited to a friends house tonight so I have to go to that. I'd rather not rush to get the IC thread up tonight and I think I'll put it up first thing tomorrow. I hope everyone doesn't hate me too much over having to wait until tomorrow for the start of the game.

I'll post up the beginning of the greatest campaign ever tomorrow first thing when I get to work and should be on the boards basically all day between 8am-5pm EDT.

Okay! I'm thinking I'd like to replace Issian with Hedge Magician, would that be all right?

I'm keeping River Rat in any case. Valeska's a swimmer. And she's still Issian no matter what.

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

Tomorrow is fine. I will get my completed character sheet to you tonight.

Vishoon wrote:

Vishoon (and the rest of you as well): I had also initially decided to take Improved Init. I took it because I usually like to take it before I knew of the block initiative plan (which is fine with me).

However, the more of us take Imp Init (or have good Init mods), the better it becomes for all of us (in theory).

It's sort of a weird Prison's Dilemna.

If you switch out of it, so shall I. If you keep it, so will I.

How do the rest of you feel about it?

I'll do whatever, but would like to know before I finish tweaking.

Male 1/2 Orc Inquisitor of Lamashtu HP 11/11 AC 17/12 Touch/15 FF Fort: +4 Reflex: +2 Will: +6 Init: +6 CMB:+2 CMD:14

I'll keep improved Init, if folks want, just wasn't sure it be as useful. It did fit my character...it easier being a bounty hunter when you get the drop

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

Okay I took the Orlovsky trait, but my family were business partners with them. It could even be said that my mother gave me to them because of my musical talent as a way to contribute to the partnership. Another good reason for Areanna to hate her mother. As such I count as one of them. Their practices match my own, that is why I chose them. Is that cool?

Male Human (Varisian)

I think I'll give it until the morn (aka about 11 hours), but if it's just you and me who chime in on this, let's swap out, eh?

Even if just both of us have it that at least 1 to our initiative

Hedge magician is fine I think. As long as your traits aren't from the same category (magic, combat, etc) it'll work.

I allow the orlovsky trait. Your parents would be diplomats/merchants who met the Orlovskys at a social function in the capital. Both your family's dealings and the orlovskys benefited from the agreements you guys had. It could very well be that your family had helped establish the expeditions or helped finance the wedding. Just some ideas.

DM Olondir--

For future planning, will Boon Companion, from Seeker of Secrets, be allowed?

I'm fidgeting with multiclassing and was wondering.

Boon companion is allowed!

Female Elf Bard(Arcane Duelist) lvl 1

Okies! Areanna is sent away all neatly packaged up just for you Olondir. :)

Female Half-Elf Witch 2 - HP: 16/16 - Init: +1 - Fort/Ref/Will: +2/+1/+4 - Perception: +7 - AC: 11, T: 11, FF: 10 - CMD: 12

My traits are Hedge Magician and River Rat now. All complete!

Male Gnome Summoner 1

Deleted my previous post because I didn't communicate as well as I prefer.

Olondir:

I'm wondering if there may have been a communication error here somewhere.

DM Olondir wrote:

I'm not sure what an TA is. I assume Teaching Assistant? An adjunct is a "temporary" professor, from what I know.

Tiomir's backstory is pretty clear (I think): he's a teacher at the Stone of the Stars. An educated, fully-fledged, veteran teacher with 44 years under his belt.

It's the "still a TA" that ... miffs me slightly. I don't quite know what a TA is or what its role is, but it sounds like a sort of apprenticeship? If it is, then it goes against the backstory, which already stated he was an educated teacher, and undertook his education - 44 years ago.

My backstory states that Tiomir is a teacher. Not necessarily a professor - I don't think he has the skills for that, but he has Profession (Teacher), he has Knowledge (Arcana/History/Planes), and I'm thinking he's a 1st/2nd grade theoretical teacher, who teaches well because of his high charisma (good presentation) - but doesn't rise higher because of his "low" int (only 14). Not an apprentice, or fledling. Not "still a TA" at the age of 82-85, which is most likely the age in which he met Syra.

Syra was an NPC which we had little information of, so I will change that part of her backstory to reflect the hard facts on her - that she's 18-20, and she studied abroad when she was... well, I would like to know specifics. But Tiomir, as I repeat, is a teacher. Fully educated, with a secure position - adjunct would not fit to me. Not if he's been teaching there for over 44 years.

If your suggestion was that he may have been a TA to help one of the professors that were teaching a higher grade, that I can agree with. That would make sense. But "still a TA" ... I admit, it rubbed me the wrong way. I applied with Tiomir as a teacher, not somebody still working on becoming one.

I apologise for the lengthy post. I am fiercely overprotective of Tiomir's character and backstory, and have wanted to play him for a long, long time. I will of course change how and when he met Syra to fit the dates and such - but I wish to keep to the backstory before Syra as it is.

Patcher:

I didn't mean to devalue Tiomir as a teacher or rub you the wrong way. What I said was he would have been an Adjunct, Teacher/Professor without Tenure or TA (Teaching Assistant) at the same time as when Syra went to the school. I never meant to insinuate that would be as far as he got on the teaching track. I honestly had the picture of Tiomir as this fresh, young teacher and meeting Syra and then you rose through the ranks to a tenured position. However, given the age of Tiomir and the length of time he has been teaching there before Syra I see why my suggestion and conception didn't make any sense at all to begin with so I'm sorry.

Lets go with Syra studying with you around the ages of 13-18 assuming you don't object. I like the idea of you teaching more of the intro-level/slightly more advanced level theoretical courses while at school. The intro classes every semester/year would be a new wave ofinteresting students to appease your curious mind. Let's say you met Syra her first semester there. Be it your course on "Intro to the theoretical applications of the mechanics of dragon-flight", "Thassilon, Brevoy and You", whatever fun class ideas you think Tiomir would teach, she'd take it. She loved your teaching style so she took basically whatever class you had to offer.

I also understand I never gave anyone a fleshed out description or history of the bride or groom. Honestly that was somewhat intentional so you all could incorportate your backstories in a more creative way.

Would you mind if you or I invent some of your teaching collegues and/or some notable students? You know.. during the campaign you'll never know who you'll bump into. You know the tune: "It's a small plane, afterall." :)

Once again I'm sorry and meant no offense.

Male Gnome Summoner 1

DM Olondir:

Thank you. I apologise if I went too far, as I said in the beginning of my post, it sounded like a communication error. I'm glad.

So Syra was taught by Tiomir (in Magnimar) for 5 years, or taught sometime while she was between 13-18? I can go with that. Might want to announce this to the others as well.

I may change my Noble Born (Lebeda) into something else - but will the other NPC (Rimi Lebeda, who essentially would have been the reason for the Noble Born (Lebeda) trait) still persist?

Patcher:
Of course Rimi still exists! I was letting you choose up to teaching her for a maximum of 5 years as far as your backstory goes. Since Ravens needs to get some time with her as well, how about you taught her 13-16 so Ravens got to see her/fall in love with her when she returned? How do you like that?

Also, as far as the history of Syra goes for you Ravens, you met her when she was young.. 10 or 12 or even younger. You remember when she went away to study in Magnimar at the age of 13. When she returned home at the age of 16, she looked older, smarter and more beautiful than you imagined.

Male Gnome Summoner 1

Three years works for me. How old was she now? 18? 20? I'll update my backstory to fit the new facts.
