Kiyomi takes the time in the morning to hum softly while she restrings her shortbow and thrums her harp, murmuring to it like one would speak to a small child or a favored puppy. She seems greatly relieved that the harp is undamaged and takes pride in tuning each string perfectly. Her headband and belt are next, as she belts them on and seems to become more lithe and charismatic. Lastly she puts on her bracers, feeling the comforting aura of magic envelop her like a velvet glove. She smiles broadly and stands, ready to aid her newfound companions.

"I must ask, what brings such heroes as yourself so far from your native lands? Why come to this side of the world?"

A crease crosses Heng's tattooed forehead as he is uncertain if the "fang and claw" comment was aimed at him. Not sensing any intended offense in the young woman's tone, the quiet half-orc monk responds a bit obscurely, "We are here to right wrongs and restore order. Perhaps we may speak of this later, I do not believe it is my place to discuss such things at the moment."

Heng rubs his head as he ponders Harlan. "I think walking up on the air might prove most useful once again, but perhaps we should see what is beyond the doors upstairs. I do not know if we are yet near our foe."


Moving on, if everyone is all set...

Leaving the storage room and returning to the doors upstairs, you find the place remarkably undisturbed. The bodies of the defeated hobgoblins still lay where you left them. The doors leading further in are of dark wood, carved in the hideous images covering the rest of the chamber. They have no hinges, instead made to slide left and right.

Despite a thorough search, Heng does not spy any traps or dangers around the sliding doors. With effort, he slides the panel aside, revealing a steep staircase climbing upward. Bas-reliefs of faces distorted by pain cover the steps and walls. At the top of the stairs is a tall, humanoid statue in the rough form of a Tian temple guardian. The statue appears to be constructed of clay, still glistening with moisture as if recently molded.

Round One
Initiative Order: Malnival [26], Harlan [21], Kiyomi [16], Heng [13], Parity [10], Kelda [4], Golem [2]

Malnival hastens the party with magic, Harlan blesses them, and Kiyomi inspires with her song. With a combination of magic and monk technique, Heng speeds up the stairs and around the statue.

The statue stands on a balcony overlooking a wide, dark pit through an arched opening. Similar openings lead to chambers in the other three walls surrounding the pit. Six thick iron bars crisscross the pit in a lattice. Greenish-gray, bitter-smelling mist wafts up from below.

Parity runs up the stairs to attack, slashing Suishen into the clay construct. Though the blade connects with considerable force, its composition absorbs a significant amount of the blow. Kelda runs up to engage, roaring as she enters a rage. She cleaves her sword deep into it, but faces similar resistance.

Soundlessly, the statue swings its massive fists at Parity and Kelda. It misses Kelda by nearly a foot over her head, but it connects with Parity with a crushing blow to the chest.

Initiative Order: Malnival [26], Harlan [21], Kiyomi [16], Heng [13], Parity [10], Kelda [4], Golem [2]

Malnival runs up the stairs to close into melee. As he comes within the reach of its long arms, the statue swings a fist, smashing the elf in the shoulder. Malnival counters, cutting a small piece of clay away from the construct. After the hits from Parity, Kelda and now Malnival, small cracks start to show in its composition.

Harlan fires off a speedy chain of crossbow bolts, but none seem to have any noticeable effect on the statue. Kiyomi moves halfway up the stairs, looking for an opening.

Heng attacks in a whirling flurry of fists, slamming the statue in any perceived stress point. It works, and as the hits land, the cracks in the claw grow larger. Just before Parity moves in to strike, one large crack expands across its torso, and the statue collapses in two large halves.

End of Combat!

From the southern archway, a hoarse male voice calls out in Tien. "What is that damnable noise all about... are we attacked?" It does not sound overly concerned.

For the cursed wounds, an attempt to heal requires a DC 26 caster level check from the healer, or it will have no effect.

Golem died before Parity's turn, so your call on whether you cast the swift spell or not.

Parity:
Beyond the screen is a chamber wallowing in excess. The walls are carved with explicit carnal scenes and a dozen statues of similar nature stand throughout the room among several lacquer and bamboo cabinets. A magnificent bed, decorated with similar erotic carvings, dominates the room.

The bed currently has three occupants, two of which are naked hobgoblin females. The third, also naked, is a male ja-noi, an oni in hobgoblin form. This one is terribly disfigured with countless scars, brands and tattoos.

The females are trying to escape the bed to search for danger, but the male, his lust readily apparent, keeps pulling them back. They take no notice of you.
