I am heading out of town tonight till Sunday. Found out today there will be no internet. But my wife and friend want me to run a game with them while we are there, so I will have my laptop, if I get any cell service I will try to jump on.
Sorry for the late notice. Will be back to our regularly scheduled program Sunday night.
Grilnik Urist
lol, nuts.
WELL I guess that gives everyone plenty of chance to jump in with comments about how they like the town or something xD
Bethany Carpenter
Yeah this time of year weekends are rough.
On a game front. If we come into enough cash I would really like to get a +1 enchantment on Big Brother at some point.
Vors Orcblood
Vors doesn't see much value in the town itself, but likes the reputation his antics are garnishing him here in Belhaim. He's conflicted by bigger things in other places or finding a home here among a small town that is beginning to respect him; something he never got in Taldor.
DM Nex
If you wanted to take off for the month that is fine too. If you wanted to come back for the auction that is fine.
And hey, if you want your PC to just peace out and have a new character show up for the auction that is fine too. You just wont have the background or knowing the others.
As for the +1 enchantment, might be harder, since there is no one in town. Though you could take off and head to Cassomir, which is a massive city. Would just take some time, maybe go with a caravan down there and back. Would take 2 weeks total. But everything is available there.
Grilnik Urist
Oooh, I have a question. How would you price a holy symbol that was mostly platinum but with gold used for part of the image? (just the chain part) :3
Grilnik is going to get a new holy symbol made of bling xD
Grilnik Urist
Vors quickly finishes his wine, setting down the goblet.
"Lady Origena, always a pleasure", the half-orc said with a flirty wink.
[dice=Diplomacy]1d20 + 11
Also I find that to be entirely too amusing xD
Grilnik Urist
wow, I guess you need to make each link in the chain in sequence, huh?
honestly I was expecting it to be more similar to a straight platinum holy symbol because of the increased workmanship and the fact that the chain is a small part, but if 350 is your final answer, I certainly won't complain ^_^
Then again, I guess the inside or back of the holy symbol could be gold... HMMMMmm a backing of gold is actually a really good idea xD
Also, is it safe to say that we just got 8lbs of gold from the herbalist and 80lbs of gold from the mayor?
If so, Grilnik and Bethany will have to share the load xD
Bullseye Brynn
Safe to say Grilnik's taking the healer's kit now that we've got it?
Bethany Carpenter
Loot sheet is a little sparce. Are we each taking a cut of things? Need to work out what Bethany does for a month.
Grilnik Urist
well, unless ya'll wanna chip in for getting a spell cast on Maffei (assuming she's even there in the morning) we'll all just get 1100 gp (4000/4 + 400/4)
And yes, Grilnik will be taking the healer's kit. Is anyone else even trained? xD
Vors Orcblood
Vors will chip in for Maffei's spell
And yes, Grilnik will be taking the healer's kit. Is anyone else even trained? xD
Vors have 1 rank in Heal if that helps. :)
Grilnik Urist
neat, that makes two of us xD
Also, as mentioned in the gameplay thread, can we "retrain" hitpoints by spending double the time? (still 10 * 4 * 3 = 120 gp per HP tho...)
It'd only take 24 days and 480gp to get 4 hit points at normal price and double time... then we'd have time for helping the Kells and other things xD
DM Nex
Retraining HP is fine.
As for magic weapons and armor, there is no one in town, you would have to travel to the big city. Which is a totally valid thing to do, but would take most of the month there and back.
As for the Kells, you will likely have to wait for that a bit. Spoilers
Healing Maff is up to y'all.
As for Bethany setting up as a carpenter, you totally can. You can make some gold if you want. If that is what you want to do I can get the exact "downtime" rules and make it correct.
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/other-rules/downtime/
There is a link of all the things you can do.
Grilnik Urist
ok, I've thought of a plan:
1 day to meet Maffei, go to Big Bull (and maybe check in with the temples) to commission a new 350gp platinum/gold holy symbol, and take a nap after a long dungeon crawl.
24 days "retraining" (hit points, I guess some sort of ascetic monk stuff. Stuff like sitting under a waterfall while trying not to freeze to death)
and 5 more days (mixed in with the training) to sight-see and look for the Kells. Maybe find more side-quests in town if anyone else is up for that xD
So before I post again in gameplay, should I just narrate all that? Did anyone want to RP meeting with Maffei and/or poking around town?
edit: and is there a level 7+ cleric to ask about a (non-lesser) restoration spell? I just realized it might be hard/impossible to find a person who can cast 4th level spells in town xD
edit2: or I suppose we could be a scroll, some diamond dust, and risk Grilnik's 15% chance of failure...
Vors Orcblood
Vors would want to meet with Maffei, hopefully with a means to restore her. If the group stays in Belhaim, the half-orc will continue to impress and flirt with both Lady Origena and Talia Orem, in hopes of starting a relationship with either. The roguish cleric has too much money for this town and nothing to spend it on that he doesn't already have. So he'll maintain his room at The Wise Piper, occasionally drink until drunk, and maybe court some ladies.
Bethany Carpenter
Wow, lot of downtime rules to untangle. I will look at over today. I do think she will pick up some extra work for the down time since she does not have enough gold to get her hammer enchanted.
Grilnik Urist
...so... did my post ruin everything forever? :P
or are ya'll just thinking of yer month of downtime? xD
Vors Orcblood
Character-wise Brynn's not helping, but I'm fine chipping in behind the scenes as a player. Why don't we take the 800 gp out of the 4,417 gp we have as treasure that we haven't split yet? Then everyone can chip in to heal Maffei. If not, I'll still pay 1/4 the cost (200 gp) of the scroll.
No need. Vors has money to burn and somebody needs help; help that if he was in that situation, he would want someone to help him. Besides Vors understands that Brynn doesn't give two s#|+s anyway. He wants to do it.
Grilnik Urist
I'll just pretend that Grilnik was a little to slow to the punch instead of me having computer issues IRL xD
Also, idk how charitable Bethany feels, but Grilnik and Vors have 1100 each, and that's technically enough even before help from the Baroness
I'm fine splitting it in any way you guys want, but Grilnik (and Vors apparently) would like to chip in :D
Bethany Carpenter
I would chip in for an equal share. We did say we would help it.
Grilnik Urist
yay equal shares xD
Also, if no one else wants to narrate our trip over to the tower, I'll do that sometime tomorrow :P
Grilnik Urist
BTW, should I just narrate Grilnik trying both spells? I feel like I should just narrate everything for the sake of expediency...
IIRC DM Nex mentioned that she has permanently drained levels OOC and so she probably wouldn't get any use out of lesser restoration xD
sorry for stealing the show a little bit ^^;
I hope ya'll don't mind too much ^^;
Grilnik Urist
^ thanks xD
Also, I assume you'll want to sleep for a day or two straight, but we look forward to having you back (and to Maffei's reply) xD
Grilnik Urist
BTW Brynn, is Brynn the type to feel bad after everyone else chips in and want to give an equal share?
'cause if not then she gets 1100 gp and we'll get 534 gp each (and i'll use 2gp from the tiny party fund that's been floating around to make the sum work out...)
If so, then we can all get 675gp without muddling with anything else.
oh, but that's not including Origena's contribution to Maffei's healing (I assume it'd be a monetary contribution less than 1700gp) xD
Bullseye Brynn
Nope! Not at all. But we should split it four ways behind the scenes anyway.
Grilnik Urist
1 person marked this as a favorite.
clerical error? :P
Grilnik Urist
@Beth: Did you just want to earn gold with craft (carpentry)? If so, you probably just care about DM Nex's ruling and this section of the downtime rules:
Skilled Work: If you have ranks in a useful skill, you can spend 1 day working in a settlement to earn more capital than you would doing unskilled work. Note that this method includes both legal and illegal means of earning capital—for example, a day spent using Sleight of Hand to earn money could be a day spent performing as a street magician or a day spent pickpocketing.
Choose either one type of capital (Goods, Influence, Labor, or Magic) or gp, and attempt a skill check. You can take 10 on this check.
If you chose gp, divide the result of your check by 10 to determine how many gp you earn that day. For example, if your check result is a 16, dividing it by 10 earns you 1 gp and 6 sp that day (round to the nearest silver).
...stuff about capital...
Working Weekends
The Craft and Profession skills allow you to attempt a skill check once per week, earning an amount of gp equal to 1/2 your check result. If you were to divide that amount by 7, you’d get your earnings per day. However, that assumes you work 7 days per week, and most people take 2 days off per week for rest and worship, so that’s only 5 days of actual work per week. Dividing your check result by 2 and then by 5 is the same as dividing by 10, which is why the downtime system has you divide your check result by 10 to determine gp earned per day. You can work 7 days per week (if you really need the 2 extra days for earning capital), but even mighty adventurers need a day off now and then!
The value of a particular skill for a given type of capital can vary from settlement to settlement. For example, in a frontier settlement with a tradition of serious hard work, a day of humorous performances using Perform (comedy) might not earn you much capital, but inspirational public speeches about the city’s heroes using Knowledge (history) or Perform (oratory) could. The GM should tell you this before you attempt the skill check, or allow you to assess the inhabitants’ preferences with a successful DC 15 Knowledge (local) or Sense Motive check.
Grilnik Urist
I decided that Longstrider > weaponwand
So I swapped out those two spells when I updated my equipment xD
(I've already added the 675 and subtracted 350 (gold/plat holy symbol) & 480 (training), so Grilnik has less cash than before, and now he keeps the wood symbol in his backpack and the metal symbol hanging from his belt...)
Also spells:
Spells Prepared:
. 2nd: Shield Other (D), Lesser Restoration, Resist Energy, Summon Monster II
. 1st: Longstrider (D), Bless [x2], Comprehend Languages, Ironbeard
. 0 (at will) Create Water, Light, Purify Food and Drink, Stabilize
edit: Also just noticed that the lovely website we've got for this campaign doesn't have the hunclay's manor quest checked off (and I think there were 3 scrolls of restoration before we bought one, so that'd be 2 now if I remembered correctly)
Vors Orcblood
I was doing some research on Talia Orem, and apparently she has a son?! How's the boy handling mother's newest half-human paramour? Vors would make an effort to be kind to the kid, at least. Shall Vors roll for Diplomacy?
Edit: I forgot the differences in age between Talia & Vors. The half-orc might be close in age to Talia's son!!!
DM Nex
Good catch. Fixed now.
No worries about your spells, I trust you. Your method of posting here works. You can also just keep an updated list on your profile. If I ever have a question I usually go there to see what you have/dont have. Or what info I need to bot you.
Again, up to you how you want to handle spells.
