Noro tries to gather the crew out of earshot of the rest, and has Sunny take a muster to be sure all are present.

I do not like this arrangement. I will not be some food gatherer for these giants. My intention is to either subdue them and they do work for us or we eliminate them.

thinking for a bit, I have managed to wrestle two giants to the ground now and one while i was blind, which I expect one of you can fix.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Still here, waiting to see what your plan is. These giants respect strength above all else. If you try to reason with them and befriend them that is fine, but if they believe that they are in a position of strength they will expect you to give them far more than they give you. If you are stronger, they will expect the opposite.

May we speak in your meeting hall ishtoreth, negotiating in a public area does not seem wise

if he accepts

One last attempt:
The subject I want to discuss with you (and your esteemed council if there is one), peace and security, is both timely and important. Because there's a very big decision that you must make for yourselves. This subject involves the most basic duty that any king and any people share, the duty to protect and strengthen

We start by considering what must be done to maintain peace and review all the possible threats against our security. Then a strategy for strengthening peace and defending against those threats must be agreed upon. And, finally, our defense establishment must be evaluated to see what is necessary to protect against any or all of the potential threats.

`Deterrence'' means simply this: making sure any adversary who thinks about attacking our island, or our allies, or our vital interests, concludes that the risks to him outweigh any potential gains. Once he understands that, he won't attack. We maintain the peace through our strength; weakness only invites aggression.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

What this boils down to Ishtoreth is we can work together as allies and strengthen our position or stay divided and be weaker. Like it or not something is brewing with Cheliax so by working with us you strengthen your position with your people.

This is our last and final offer, we can work as equals or you can take your chances alone the choice is yours

Male Human Swashbuckler 10

Yea know MY mind about it; but will go with the flow; no sense trying to swim upstream. Nah yer blinded too; how many of us got this condition ar condition is in? like 3? This mayhap make us look weak so I be keeping my weapons out and plenty handy.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Not fully following your speech, but the talk of strength and intimidation of any enemies seems to make sense to the Cyclops. He alone is king, there is no council.

Dimitrious seemed exceptionally persuasive, wining the king over slowly. I can see some benifit to this added strength. We will work based on how much food you give in trade. For each of us whom works for you for the day, you just feed their family for that day. Some will choose to work with you. Others will seek to live as well have since time immemorable. What say you to this?

Suny frowns a little....

"Um... well... we can't right be sayin' 'Yes' t'ye idea till we's got more an' idea of things with ye. Ye ken? We's only jus' met!" Suny exclaims happily.

"I be more'n happy ta' share an' stuffs. Like I be more'n happy ta' be helpin' ye folks get more vittles fer 'em selfs." She nods enthusiastically.

"Like I bin said. I be more'n happy ta' be helpin' ye folks with they's fishin' an' stuffs. My kin be rilly good with fishin'." She nods even more.

"But workin' out fare shares might take a tad more time. We din't even know ye folks were abouts on'a island. We brought lots'a stuff! But... well.. maybe not enough lots'a stuff now we know ye folk be about... um... ye ken?" Suny frowns some... then brightens.

Noro thinks about the offer.

addressing the crew, I will not be turned into some food gathering slave. nor will will I allow this happen to my crew!

the pirate council will have a lot to say about this, we show signs of weakness, they will be all over this island, trying to take it from us. If this Cyclops king shows even a hint of taking advantage of this crew, I will rip his eye out and shove it down his throat and parade him around the village like a damn side show freak.

As always your word is law captain, I see this as a win win for us. I believe the council will be most impressed if we have made powerful allies out of enemies. If not then a pile of cyclops corpses is sure to impress upon them our strength as well.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

So it sits at a bit of an entente, what do you wish to do next? Supervise the construction? Explore more of the island? With an application of ant haul, a cyclops can lift well over a ton. They eat a lot but the could aid quite a bit with the construction. With bulls strength and ant haul they are well over two tons of carrying capacity. I am going to set up a map for you to decide what your place will look like.

Well.. ta' help with tha' feedin' I were gon'a be helpn' 'em be more efficient at fishin'. Local sea life should be quite plentiful. Not sure how fussy eaters these cyclops be.. Plus, there's always investin' in a LOT of magic an' stuffs... Rilly big magic tables of makin' foods. See if'n we can get discounts on 'Rings of sustenance'. Heck, even them spoons of making porridge will maybe do in a pinch. Investing in walking artillery is always something Suny will be interested in.(^_~)

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 2 (Primalist, Steelblood)

First priority for me is resting up and memorizing all the Remove Blindness spells we need. I can do Bull's Strength and Ant Haul as well, but being able to see where I'm going is priority #1.

Male Human Swashbuckler 10

it pains me not to be seeing yer ship anytime soon, but what say youse ta addin Guillaume and I ta yer ship; as yea should now know; we had many talents that shine like the stars on the blanket of night

Male Human Swashbuckler 10

ifn yea dont be minded to terrible like; we who is blinded fer a spell could use a guiden hand; thought we still can fight well as ever; transversin I spect is problematic. I wonder ifn that king o' cannibals knew weez risked blinded to get us in our infirmity, but seeing us still apt at fightin blind, wisely reconsidered.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

It seems that the priority is to get some rest and get rid of the blindness.
Concluding your encounter with the Cyclopse in a sort of deal, the party elects to head back to the beach for a nights rest. Dimitrious is able to lead the party back to the bay where the ships are anchored.

The crew has been industrious but lacking in direction. In your absence they have brought the supplies ashore and have piled them into somewhat not really sorted piles. They have however set up some hammocks amongst the trees and a couple of Suny's carpenters have started the construction of a few tiki huts. The crew will require direction if this is ever to be more than just a make shift ramshackle settlement. That said, they did a lot of work getting this all ashore.

I am leaving this up to you to make truly your own, but I will leave some ideas that I have come up with under spoilers.

Profession Sailor DC 15:
The shoal water could cause problems, it should either be dredged or day markers/bouys should be used to mark the safe water for when your guests arrive. A nice pier would be helpful too.

knowledge engineering/geography DC 10:
The sandy areas would be bad to build on.

profession sailor/knowledge local DC 15:
The Pirate Lords may also be sizing up your ability to defend this place. Marking some sort of fortification would be a good idea.

Lots of discussion:
Okeys.... No real plan on how a 'Town' should be set out as such BUT the people we have are going to need certain things sorted out and the quicker the better in the long run.

Fresh water in, waste out.

Places for animals/livestock to be kept safe as their fates and sues come about (Again, with needs of water in/waste out)

We need to start sorting out what we can carefully take from the island without turning it into a desert while what we leave behind actually adds to where we are. (Fresh food in/waste turned over into fertilizer to help fresh food coming in.)

Changing the harbor to better accommodate ships, the moving of cargo and such will need lots of work.

So, possible new breakwaters and definitely piers, jetties, ramps and wharves will be needed.

Good thing we have walking siege engine to help with such. Eventually.... maybe even investing in a 'Lyre of building' and 'Mattock of the Titans' wouldn't go astray?

The other great thing is we actually have good solid material to build with if we can get to working on it. Coral shaped into blocks is quite a solid stone and am thinking there's enough around the island in places we don't want that we can carve it up and put it to our use and not it laying around ripping holes in ships. (^_)

(Note, leaving the ecology pretty sound will also be a 'Thing' as far as Suny goes. So we've some 'give and take' between the two.)

I'm happy to put up Suny's rolls and offer suggestions. Will try and keep 'My' ideas and knowledge separate a little from the tanned, bouncy, plucky Elf lass... but there is still a lot of things rattling around under the blond mop of hair which the DM can attest to. (^_~)

Jus' a question? Whut's 'K' an' 'L' ?

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

K is the cyclops docks you saw earlier. If you walk over to L, it seems to be a beach area with a lot of crabs scurrying about. Perhaps something could be done with them.

Noro surveys the situation after getting cured of her blindness.

fist off, good job with the supplies. take a breather while we form a plan. Sunny, open some of the Rum for the crew.

taking note of the schoals, Those Schoals, good and bad. I recommend a marker system. could be useful for defense. but we will need to mark the safe path for allies.

next the cyclop's docks. we can refit them for our use, that area over there indicating area "L" we will have to avoid supply storage in that area. we can set up defensive battlements on each side of the inlet. a watchtower can be set up atop the hill where we fought off them bird things.

[b]Our first priority is storage for our supplies. Sunny, you are in charge of setting up watch rotations and overseeing crew morale, you just been assigned as quartermaster.

Over the coming days Suny does her best to do as much as she can for crew and equipment. Seeing to poor Angus' needs in his dire straits.

The negative levels were similar to an enervation effect. They dissipated sometime in the night.

Guillaume made his first priority the restoration of the party's eyesight.
What time of day does Besmara grant you spells? Dawn, highest high tide? Sometime else?

A couple of the carpenters Suny brought along begin drawing up some plans in the sand. They use little sticks and rocks to represent planned locations for the buildings. The oldest of the carpenters eyes the strand of palmetto trees near the beach. I've seen a fort made of these before. They are a bit springy and tend to bounce large projectiles off them without just breaking apart.

Some of the hands, who had been idle since the movement of supplies ashore, dash off and grab some of the nets. The thought of fresh crab meat is a strong motivator.

Dimitrious, make whole is great for fixing things, but fabricate would be needed to make something new.

Male Human Swashbuckler 10

Well, thanks yea fer the leader back ta yer site o encampment. Bout how many are here? If yea could task a few ta collect some broad leaf plants I saw hereabouts, when I could see [ Pim describes the plants needed for rope making] I can make and or make teach others. I am sure we kin use lots o rope, cord and string for various things.

assuming the materials are brought; will spend the rest of the waking hours making rope taking a 10 or 20 as applicable giving me a 17 or 27

prof sailor; take a 10; result 18.
making friends with various crew members; take a 10; diplomacy 18

Pim tells funny stories while making rope; assuming someone will provide the water take a 10 or 20 on Oratory for 13-23 as there is no hurry.

In the morning, provide my blindness is cured, I will go get my sea chest and bring it back down to the encampment. If nothing is up at that point; I will continue making rope, cord, and string and telling stories.

If through chatting up various crew members; Pim catches onto the idea of building up this place and making a fort and bailey; Pim will tell the carpenders/builders, provided enough materials are available, that he can make rope think as his arm if needed.

I'm not sure there is an official answer on when Besmara grants spells. We'll say they come at the day's first high tide.

Sleeping fitfully in his blindness, Guillaume prays fervently the next morning to the Pirate Queen for a way to remove blindness from himself and others, and ways to strengthen the crew and their allies for the day's tasks. The tanned Elf listens intently to Paddy's tale. Nodding at some points, her large blue eyes some times growing wider in amazement at others. At his completion she puts aside her rope work and leans over to hug the fellow,

"Aye, sorry I am fer yer crew whut has fallen behind." She says as she offers some comforting words. Then shaking her blond mop as she gets back to both making rope and teaching others the skills qhile she continues to chatter,

"I in't be lookin' fer bods on me crew right now. Captain Noro might be in'erested in yer skills, though?" She advises Paddy. Twisting where she kneels in the sand she points,

"That's Capn' Noro's ship there." She points to one vessel that sits at anchor in the harbor,

"An' that's my one next to her." She indicates the second ship brightly, then proceeds to point out which people are from which crew to Paddy as folks hurry about with their tasks all around them. She sighs,

"Aye, them bigger folks got right different ideas on whut t'is what's good an' bad... " She looks up towards the higher elevations of the island, "But! Over time I be sure we can be a'splainin' tha' better way fer peoples ta' be workin' with tha' other peoples!" She says brightly and enthusiastically.

Looking to Paddy she smiles,

"As fer m'selfs?" She asks rhetorically.

"Well now, a description o' th' kin 'Back home'. Island Elfs," And she points to her tanned, trimmed natural self, "Of which I be a kin of." She tilts her head as she absently scratches at her blond mop.

"Well... I s'pose we seem ta' be more 'Native' like. Livin' as we do huntin' an' gatherin' an' takin' things from natural farming an' other horticulture'l endeavors." She pauses and frowns a little.

"Now, bein' Native dun't mean bein' stoopid." Frowns and waggles a warning finger at the folks gathered around.

"Since we be more like maybe seals then fish, tha' kin be on goodly terms wi' th' Merfolks there abouts an' be havein' good trade relations wiff 'em. As fer raiders an' such? Well, every community puts up with that sort o' folk right?" She asks. (^_^)

"When new folks come 'round we greet 'em careful an' then treat with 'em like they deserve. Good folks we trade an' talk with. Bad folks?" She shrugs, "We throw rocks at 'em till they go away." She nods simply then sighs.

"I s'pose me kith and kin has bin livin' on'a edges of a sea fer longest time. Whether we is a'splorin' some new places? Or scamperin' about tha' riggin' of whatever sailin' vessel be tha' fashion of tha' day. Being of the sea an' shore' be part of our nature." She explains.

"M'self come ashore ages from here an', well... Most of tha' senior crew; Captain Noro, Master Dim an' tha' like, we fell a foul of other folks who's intent weren't too gooder. After some in'erestin' times bein' had by us we come across another ship." And again Suny points to her vessel,

"Then we all joined in'a big race whut we won an' now t'other bigger captains be givin' Captain Noro this bit of land ta' be seein' too." And again Suny looks to the island tops,

"Though, in a ways... we got'a be sharin' wiff tha' peoples whut t'is already be livin' here..."

Pim is bit caught off gaurd at Suny's empathy and hug

If n yea aint gots a First Mate; then yea can trust me to it or Bosun ifn yea does; I'll not be stabbin yea in the back and hold dear whacha hold dear and am good at keepin the sea swabs tempers in check. What method of split of treasure and booty does yea use?

So, Capt Noro been givin run of this island; gots possibilities that does and explain some things. As fer meself; I dont know buildin or such, but I have seen a fair number of fortification at sea and not. If he is supposed to hold this island from anything bigger than rowboat there is mighty and grand bit of work to do.

What have yea in the way of troops, soldiers, marines, gunners, archers and whatnot? If there is any pay or incentive; we could probably get some or should even ifn we's gotta train them up ourselves, which I might be fair at considering.

And on that note; how well do yea all know this island? ifn this is gonna be our home for a while we might want to take a fair note of it particularities. Right off I would say we need ta take stock in fresh water stores and what grows all natural and ifn we gonna need to use them yonder boats ta bring in soil for we would be in serious need of apples and oranges for the scury gets us down.

what say you Capt Suny; take me as yer First Mate R Bosun or what have ye? ifn yer not a tyrant ye'll find me straight and true

Suny listens to Paddy's words, nodding every now and then. She turns and replies,

"Well.. me Fist-mate be on'a ship at the now." She advises Paddy. "As fer fightin' an' stuffs? Yah I be pretty sure we got's some. S'pose we's all'a ways lookin' fer more. Oh! Plus, now, we got's them bigger folks ta' be helpin' ina' fight!" She realizes brightly.

"I dun't think we any one rightly knows a lot about tha' place right now but we's got time ta' be learnin' an' a'spolrin'." (^_^)

"As fer farmin'? I be thinkin' we's got ta' use whut t'is we got an whut t'is we gon'a throw away. Like keepin' out wet waste different from our other, not wet waste. Different things can be done with both, y'know." She explains to Paddy.

how well does yea know the lay of the waterline some couple hundred feet out from the island' perimeter inward? perhaps yea and I should scout it though me to a lesser degree

:'( Sowwie Master Pim. Left a post in discussion about the decision.

Suny shakes her blond mop. "I dun't know this place much a'tall!" She grins to those gathered.

"Why... we's only jus' bin here maybe less than a week! Can't be findin' everythin' out all at once! There be nuffin' left fer surprises!" She smiles even as she bounces to her feet.

"Why dun't we ask tha' Cap'n an' tha' other Mates about doin' jus' such a thing!?" She declares to Pim, trusting folks to have a good grasp on the rope twining. Before skipping off in search of Captain Noro, or Dim or any of the other 'senior' crew to see about a little exploration of the coast near abouts.

Guillaume nods along with Pim's tale. When a chance arises, he shares his own. "I was born to a fisherman in a tiny village. Where I came from, you did the job your daddy taught you, so I took up fishing when I was old enough. 'Tweren't long 'til the ship I was crewin' on got taken by pirates. They gave us crew three choices: walk the plank, be sold to slavers, or become a pirate. So I became a pirate, y'know? Took a while, eventually we got caught by some privateers or other. Some of us that'd joined at the point of a sword managed to talk our way out of a hangman's noose. So I've spent the years since sailing for one crew or another; pirates, privateers, merchantmen, whoever. Gotten pretty good with this here pig-sticker. he says, gesturing to his rapier The Pirate Queen has blessed me I suppose. 'Course, the last crew he and I he gestures to Pim "were on din't go so well, but here we are. Whole, hale, and hearty by Besmara's grace, and blessed be her name."

Suny nods and grins at Guillaume's tale. Though, like Paddy, she offers Guillaume a sympathetic hug as well. (^_^)

As she skips along with Paddy and Guillaume, Suny chirps up,

"Me kin be hearin' of tha' Lady Besmara." She acknowledges,

"But, usual like, we's got other things an' stuff ta' be givin' thanks to...um...fer...ummm..." She shakes her blond mop. Something she obvious she does when she can't get something right.

Pim is able to locate foliage appropriate for the making of rope. Sailors shift in and out of the rope production, but two sailors seem especially interested in learning this new skill. Shabe and Kara spend much of the night making rope. During the night Shabe and Kara listen to Pim's stories attentively, they also offer a few of their own. Some of the stories seem a bit fantastic and Pim is unsure how much embellishment these sea stories have. They speak of a dread pirate ship during the recent race they were in, as well as of harnessing a turtle dragon to the ship in order to pull it through a storm. Not all of thier stories are far fetched, for example Pim also finds out that they are recently married.

Feel free to mark up the map with what you want to build. It will give me a better idea as to your ideas. For the most part you can build almost what ever you wish, it is just a matter of how long it will take. Once we have an idea of what you are looking for, you can either stay near the beach and supervise/pitch in or you can continue to explore a bit more of the island.

Male Human Swashbuckler 10

ifn there is a group up fer explorin; count me in

Noro had been about guiding the crew as best she can trying to keep them motivated.

having overheard Pim's conversation with Suny, pulling him aside. Pim, I appointed suny quartermaster, but as ya know she has her own ship. I could use your skills as Bosun on board my ship. you up fer the task? I want you to be sure that the crew stays in tip top shape for combat.

turning to Guill, I want to offer ya the position of ship's doctor. you interested?

Suny gives a little 'Squee' of joy and hugs Pim at Captain Noro's offer of a crew position.

Then proceeds to bounce about and hug pretty much every one else nearby.

Stopping by Captain Noro, Suny begins to tug at the other woman's gear,

"Come on! Pim an' Master Lions wan'a go as'plorin! We can round up master Dim an'..." Suny thoughts wander as she babbles on about what it is and where it is that Pim suggested people go.

"Of course, my captain. 'Twould be an honor to keep your crew in fighting shape." Guillaume smiled, happy to have apparently earned such quick acceptance. It wasn't something he had gained so easily.

Still trying to help Captain Noro get more comfortable, Suny waves to Dim,

"Hey-ya there! Master Lions an' Master Pim were thinkin' of goin' an' a'splorin' tha' shore!" Suny calls and explains to Dimitrious.

Am happy ta' be lookin' at tha' hills... but bein' swimmin' sounds a lot more funner. (^_^)

I also, just realized... there aren't any letters really around the coast... Not to be too meta about things. Other than 'P'. Maybe we can as'plor 'P' then 'O' then 'N' an' then 'M' on the way back? Or maybe do things t'other way around?

Suny explains her ideas to every one gathering around, still tugging and trying to untangle Captain Noro's gear from the other woman's frame. (^_^)

Noro turns to Sunny, as well as indicating the other "officers" the mountain area to the South may be promising, another good spot for either a lookout tower or even a governor's house

Noro than urges the others to follow Dim toward the South.

As you begin to head south the trees grow both thicker and taller. Stands of giant palm trees grow prominently in the hills here, many reaching abnormal heights of seventy feet or more to tower over the surrounding jungle.

perception DC 25:
Some of these trees seem to be moving of their own accord. One even seems to grasp a coconut.

While the Iron Maiden's acutraments resist Suny's efforts at Captain Noro's instructions she bouncs to attention and waves a salute. Explaining to Paddy and Guilliame as she skips across the sand,

"So tha' Cap'n be sayin' we go wiff Master Dim ta' top of yon hill. Maybe after we gets all sweaty after tha' walkin' up? We head down t'other side an' enjoy tha' swim back, hey?" She offers as explanation/expectations.

(^_^)

Upon approaching the huuug trees Suny's large blue eyes seem to grow even larger in her amazment.

Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

She bounces up to one of the giy-nor-mouse trees and presses her tanned self against its sun warmed bark, spreading her arms as wide as she can across its trunk seeming to be trying to grasp physically its total enormity.

"Oooooooooo! Is rilly..... biiiig....." She breathes in amazement.
