I am adding a well fed bonus from the previous days meal. With that +2 everyone passed.
@Calah, No fair using magic ;) (But perfectly acceptable).
@Noro, Master Scourge did not seem to understand your insult.

As day turns once again to night, the rum rations are dispensed and you find your self with time on your hands. I am going to have everyone post in this thread their activities for the night in order to facilitate more interaction. Additionally the adventure path calls for many days of this but I will be speeding up that part of the adventure. While it is fine to ask a table of players to make many day activity checks in a row, doing that on PbP would mean a month of nothing significant happening.

Arjun/DM Michael:
Would you mind if I tagged along with you?, That's where I planned on going next.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

The Quartermaster's store has an average lock (DC25). I will need stealth checks from the two of you, and a disable device check between the two of you.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Officer stateroom is where the officers sleep, is that where you want to go? Your stealth checks are high but a bad roll could be a bad day. May be worth it if you can make it back out with out being discovered.

I am not sure if you are having the same problem with the PMs. I can only read the most recent sent and received from each person. I am going to recap some of the stuff from PMs in case you could not read them.

Sandra finds Calah during the rum distribution.
You mentioned you wanted to know a little bit about me. I was born the daughter of a fisherman and a seamstress. From an early age I had a lot of time to myself as my parents were always working. I first started frequenting bars when I was tall enough to see over the bar. By the time I was twelve I was climbing the masts of ships that were in port. Ever since I have had sea water in my blood.

Talking with Sarah:

"Ah I unfortunately had a different background. I was taken at the age of 5 years old from my Undine enclave. The pirates who took me murdered most of my friends and family members and destroyed the enclave. Ever since I have lived on pirate ships. As a cook, a diver, reading weather, or just tying down ropes. I just got away from a really poorly run ship. How is this one? You might know some of the crew members. Could you tell me of them? I learned the hard way it is good to find friends quickly on a ship before they are turned against you when you "accidentally" anger some people. Scourge seems like a nasty piece of work though... And how are you handling being press-ganged. I'm sure you had better plans for becoming a pirate."

some pauses in between for answers etc, but these are questions I would ask her. Still trying to strengthen the relationship so will flirt when its proper.

*Nods* Aye, that's why I said 'current'.. (^_~)

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

Sandra talking with Calah:
It's a large ship and I have not been here for long but I think I have had enough time to make some judgements about the crew. The officers are for the most part cruel. Captain Harrigan seems to be narcissistic and obsessed with maintaining his own power. Master Scourge seems to delight in his duties, the worse the punishment the more he likes it and as for Mr. Plugg, I despise him the most, he grovels at the feet of the captain in order to maintain his position above all of us. Peppery Longfarthing, the sailing master keeps mostly to herself, I have seen her produce quite powerful magic however. Riaris Krine, is the Ship's Gunner, I have not seen much him either. As for the rest of the crew, Fishguts well you have meet him, I have never known him to do his job well but at least he is not cruel, the ship's quarter master Cut-Throat Grok, is a suspicious woman and easy to manipulate. Conchobhar Turlach Shortstone, is a funny man, a gnome swab, always trying to get everyone else to crack a smile and his hat, the purple one with the feather well certainly has a way to dress. And then there is Owlbear Hartshorn, he is a very large but simple man who they keep chained up below, all he tries to do is make people smile. They tarred and feathered him as a joke last week.

Noro:
One of the larger men arm wrestling over hears you and says, Like you do? Come over hear and see if you can best me. If you want to show him up I will need an opposed strength check.

Jax:
You check out the ship's bridge. This raised deck stands 15 feet above the main deck. The mizzenmast rises 30 feet above this deck. The ship’s bridge protrudes forward of the mizzenmast, and holds the ship’s wheel. The wheel is 3 feet across and has 10 spokes decorated with silver inlays, its bolts carved to resemble kraken heads. An iron cage hangs from the side of the mizzenmast, containing
the body of Harmak Gruft, a pirate who beat the captain at dice. Gruft is dead, but his ugly parrot Pluck perches atop the cage, still waiting for its master to awaken. The aptly named Pluck, which has lost more than few of its feathers, could make a good pet or familiar if it can
be lured down Pluck seems unfriendly and possesses a considerable
vocabulary of appalling curse words. A DC 15 perception check spots a few dropped coins in the corner(10 GP). This deck is off limits to the crew when the captain is here but right now the ship is anchored out so no one is here.

Arjun and Dimitrious:
The lower holds contain the crew berths, most of the pirates seem distracted by the arm wrestling and story telling up forward. This would be a good time to check some of their personal foot lockers (dc 20 disable device you may take a 20 but I will need stealth checks from the two of you. Dimitrious, if you decide to post lookout instead of helping to open the footlockers, you can add a +4 circumstance bonus to Arjun's stealth check and will not have to make one yourself, instead I will need a DC10 perception check from you.)

Sunny:
You get an good nights sleep and may add a well rested bonus of +2 on any one check you make tomorrow.

Sunny watches the 'wrestling' for a time. The first one or two rounds... but, again, it's not really something she finds so interesting.

A 'Diplomacy' roll to help bolster allies?

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

@Sunny: I would rather you say what you would say and then roll diplomacy. The response will be based more on the substance and less on the roll, but a truly great or terrible roll can alter the situation, some people just have that way of saying things.

*Nods to the DM's comment*

At the 'Games':
Sunny hears one of the larger men currently lent over the trestle which is serving as the 'bench' where the arm wrestling is happening say to Noro,

"Like you do? Come over hear and see if you can best me."

Sunny blink as she glances from the...solidly built human woman to the solidly built human male.

Calah will continue to chitchat with Sandra for the rest of the evening, talking about dreams and plans of the future, hobbies, fun stories. All together bonding and Calah will flirt a little after some rum has been drunk and the mood calls for it.

more talking on day 2:

On the second day (the day we fought the rats), can Calah talk with the cook and try to befriend him? Or is she too busy working the kitchen to do that?
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

During the evening of the second day she will talk to this funny gnome Conchobhar Turlach Shortstone. She will drink her rum.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

With both she will introduce herself, ask them about their dreams and history, with the crew and before the ship. She is interested in the politics of the ship, who is friendly and who she should avoid. Maybe if there are any larger animals on the ship besides the occasional pig/cow/goat for eating. She will tell her story of the meatballs she cooked for Fat Fred and some other funny stories and experiences she had from her previous ships.

With the cook she is interested in how he became the cook, his specialties and what he thought of Calah's cooking thus far. She would gladly learn of him. If he could her anything about the crew. If it is not too tender a subject she will ask him about why he drinks so much. She would be glad for a pleasant conversation during the cooking.

She will harmlessly and jokingly flirt a little with the gnome, acting all lady like if he acts like a gentleman. Asking him about his stylish hat and clothing. Where he got them and if he knows if he could get something put together for her as well. What type of clothing would suit her body shape and colour. She could really use her armor, but it is probably in the hold. Maybe Conchobhar knows how to get it back and will style it for her.

Not sure if you want to do entire discussions? Or if you want to skip through them a little.

Male Human Expert 1 Warrior 1

@ Calah On the second day Fishguts was considerably more sober and was actually able to help with the food prep, perhaps he thought he would learn something? I was trained as a professional chef at the Lobster’s Armor, one of Port Peril’s most popular and expensive
restaurants, but when he was thrown out for inappropriate
behavior with one of my assistants, I ended up plying my
trade with several sailing vessels in the Shackles before
embarking on Captain Barnabas Harrigan’s Wormwood, where I have served as ship’s cook for the past 3 years.
My drinking led me to bet my own life against Captain Harrigan in a card game one night 2 years ago. I lost, and my life became Harrigan’s to do with what he would.
My only real joy onboard is my chickens. Do you know much about poultry?

@ Calah from Fishguts INDEED! she is a black cockerel, there is more to you than there seems As far as other animals, I have a collection of chickens, but they are for eggs not for cooking, quite a variety you see. We also have some pigs in the hold. Now Owlbear, they are a bit cruel to him, if you want to bring food down to him I don't think anybody will mind. In a hushed voice despite your solitude As for mutiny... there may not be many people liking their lot but fear of punishment is a powerful thing.

@ Calah from Conchobar, My most embarrassing moment eh? Well it happened just the other day. I was playing a game of cards on this very vessel. Before I knew it we were underway, and I a pirate. But I had been hoping for an adventure so I guess its not all bad. Besides that most embarrassing moment would have to be about a year and a half ago. Someone had turned this respectable purple hat pink, using a prestidigitation spell, I did not realize for a long while and had been walking around a busy market. What self respecting gnome would wear a pink hat, took a while to live that one down.

@ Jax taking a 20 is fine in that instance, you had plenty of time to do a thorough search.

The next morning begins with a flurry of excitement. Sails on the horizon shouts a look out. We are windward, we have the advantage. shouts another.

The captain orders Mr. Plug, Prepare the ship for battle. He turns to the Conn, Set course East by South, make best speed.

Mr. Plug turns to the quartermaster and states, When we come along side I will need all hands ready for battle.

I will need profession (sailor) from everybody to see how well the ship is dressed for battle. Descriptions of what you are doing to prepare the ship for battle will add bonuses.

An excited look appears on Conchobar's face, I have never seen a battle, how interesting!

I am expecting some players from this recruitment thread.
But am looking for 7-8 players for Skull and Shackles.

My requirements for players:
Post about once a day or more.
If you have an unusual concept you have to back it up with a good back story.
I would like to see some good RP, good RP will be rewarded in story.

I will post at least once a day, probably a lot more.

Hello, Michael.

What are your character creation guidelines?
Is this first-come, first-served? Or do you have a deadline for submissions?

7-8 players, I've been dying to get into a game that has such a large group, consider me interested, even if the buy point was a 10.
I can promise to post the min of once per day.
The larger the group, the better opportunity to roleplay.

Calah reporting for duty sir!

background:

Calah was part of a small enclave of Undines who lived peacefully at a remote island. They had a close relationship with the sea and its inhabitants and were minding their own business, while sometimes trading with merchants who came by. They would trade pearls and seashells for exotic products from land.
However, a group of pirates heard of this story and thought the Undines would be very wanted on other ships and fetch high prices on slave markets. For instance they could be used to dive for treasure in shipwrecks.

When the pirates struck they killed any who resisted too much and captured all the rest who could not get away in time. They destroyed the enclave with their cannons to make sure nothing remained. Calah's family was killed during the strike. She was only five years old when this happened.

Calah was sold a couple of times for increasing prices. She has no choice but to work with the pirates at this time because they keep her chained up (even when she swims for treasure). She still needs to find out which pirate ship it was that attacked her island. When she finally gets free they will rue the day they destroyed her life.

I don't know if you would accept a phanaton character, if not I could change him to a halfling

Ahoy! Here is the submission for Tanner Nielsen. His character sheet can be amended as necessary when you decide on character creation guidelines.

Description:

Hair: None
Eyes: White
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 130lb

You see a scruffy-looking man with a shoulder-length black hair and tanned skin. His eyes are a pearly white, with no visible iris, though they are usually hidden underneath a bandanna tucked low over his brow. He has a thin nose, high cheek bones, and a strong jaw. He is dressed in black leathers, with a curved sword of eastern make at his belt and a dagger. He is tall, with a slim frame and straight posture.

Personality:

No one would ever call Arjun a friendly person. Or nice, or caring, or warm, or anything of that sort. He has a tendency of scaring children who cross his path and a disconcerting disregard for people around him. Professional? Of course. Competent? Very much. Meticulous? Sometimes tediously so. But never friendly. It is difficult to know whether or not Arjun cares for or approves any person or thing in particular - most of the time he is quick to recognize faults, especially his own, and is terse with praise. He is the sort of person you want tackling a tough project, but would never invite to a dinner party. Not that it would have bothered him, of course.

Background:

Arjun hails from the island-nation of Jalmeray. His family of vishkanya, ostracized and shunned as outsiders due to their appearance, was a somewhat notorious clan of thieves, burglars, bandits and assassins that specializes in guile and stealth. For generations they found liberation and lucrative work in criminal enterprises and were content to stay in Jalmeray. Much to their shock and dismay, Arjun's grandfather Nopor announced one day that he intended to become a pirate on the high seas. He left abruptly, leaving the clan to believe that he was destined to never return.

He did return, several years later, with stories to tell. He had become a Free Captain of the Shackles - with a flotilla of raiders at his command and a small hill of treasure in his holds. Quieting the naysayers and impressing the clan elders, Arjun's family took to piracy with enthusiasm. They found that their abilities and talents were well suited to a life of piracy, and trained Arjun while still very young in the skills she would need to succeed.

When he reached adulthood, Arjun left his home to strike out and make a name for himself. He went to a tavern called the Formidably Maid, a notorious pirate hangout in Port Peril, eager to start his career as a buccaneer. While he was there, however, a dashing and flirtatious corsair caught his eye, and after a whirlwind night of booze and romance, he found himself beaten senseless and stuffed in a sack, carried off to who knows where.

Dark Archive

I'm interested, as I said in the other thread, but my posting on weekends is generally pretty restricted, especially in the summer. I can certainly post multiple times a day every weekday, but weekends will be hit or miss for at least half the year.

I'll submit a monk or brawler with that put out there.

Character will arrive once character creation rules are posted.

Point buy will be 20, if you are using a race outside of the PHB then I ask that you have a good background story to go along with your choices. Campaign traits out of Skull and Shackles player's guide are authorized. You may take a flaw for an extra trait. If you wish to take a campaign trait run it by me, the answer will probably be yes.

As far as determining players it will be 'mostly' on a first come first serve basis. Those who actually recruited me will (from the other thread) will have first priority. I expect a post describing your character in order to reserve a spot, around a paragraph or two.

Well hello there

Noro here check alias

Will post more info after work tonight

Here is the submission for Doreen Makgree, human gunslinger (buccaneer).

1. Any restrictions on alignment?
2. Standard wealth by class?
3. Is my background story for my vishkanya character acceptable?

Thanks!

Who I have so far:

Jolly Roger - Calah Undine Druid
Krumthi
Sobel Noro - Human Barbarian
Twilsemail - Brawler
Shadowy Fox - dirge bard or sea singer
Tanner Nielson - Arjun Vishkanya Ninja (backstory works)
Tin Foil Yamakah - Dimitrious Black Phanaton Shadow Sorcerer (backstory works)
Pedro Coelho - Doreen Makgree human buckaneer
Double Gold

And I will have to end it there

first come first serve. I don't want to take someone elses spot, just because I was here and I can make an alias in 5 minutes. Which I can do, it would be slopped, but it would be there. I'm out.

As far as alignment restrictions, you will be expected to work together. This is a pirate based campaign so I will relax my normal alignment restrictions.

Starting wealth will be 150g.

I intend to start in 2 days, this will give you all some time to flesh out your characters and me some time to figure out how to integrate your specific characters.
Double Gold, I have you down on my list, as long as you have a character fleshed out in the next two days that will be fine.

Okay, sure I'll make an alias.
I was worried about who can make the alias the fastest, and others wouldn't get in just because the recruiting was wild-wild west style.

Would you like me to change him to a halfling?

Do we have to take a trait from the player guide of skulls & shackles? Or can we just choose?

Dark Archive

I think I'm going to withdraw. You've got lots of folks chomping at the bit here and plenty of melee in the party. I'm working my way back into PBP and don't want to hit system shock.

Thanks for the consideration though.

@ Double Gold, happy to have you.
@Dimitrious you may keep him as he is so long as he has a reason to be in Port Peril and becoming a pirate will fit with his concept.
@ Calah you can choose your traits.

@EVERYONE, I have opened up the gameplay thread for those who wish to begin roleplay. The game will officially kick off in 2 days.

I think I will take an animal companion, but it does not make sense for me to have one at this point. I hope there will be time later on to find a suitable animal for me to bond with.

@Calah - You could easily have an aquatic animal companion that just hangs out in the harbor while you are on land or on the ship.

She is a slave of sorts at this time so I don't think the crew will allow her to have a "pet".

@MichaelCullen: I will go with a halfling

Hey-YA there! (^_^)

Whut be tha' DM's thinkin' on 'Sea Elves' an' such?

There be a charcter behind this avatar. If'n ye have tha' time, might ye take a gander an' reply with whut ye be thinkin'?

Much cheers ta' all! *Waves*

Hey, Suny! You just can't stay away from the seafarin', can you?

(^_^)

Whut can I be sayin'?

It's in me nature.

Any room for a seafaring witch hunter? He'd be taking form as a young human monk named Han'ei, son of a fishmonger.

OK no internet for updating characters posting from phone

Will hopefully be together by late tonight

I will check out game play but minimal posting because I hate this tiny keypad

Lantern Lodge

Darn, appears I somewhat-literally missed the boat on this one. Had a character for a pbp that lost its GM within the first day (despite having a very interesting lineup of characters).

The application is in this profile. If you are still taking players, I can amend the crunch tonight to fit your character generation guidelines. Do let me know if a position opens up!

Concept is an Aasimar Shaman from Tien who fled from Quain and took to the seas to escape his pursuers. Met his spirit animal on the way to Goka and learned from her the Shamanistic ways.

I'm very interested in giving another S&S game a go.

Lost the Dm the first day? That had to be a troll.

Won't be losing the GM on this one, but as of right now we are full. If one of the players does not show up I may invite a later entry.

I got internet back

mr Dm i am send you a PM

actually sent two Pm's

Michael could you open the discussion thread?

Grand Lodge

okay Since we have a couple of things going on there I would like to play the Cleric she is here Kryanda

I just have to change a background and I should be good, otherwise please let me know GM sir.

Discussion thread is now open.

Merry Christmas/Happy Festivus/Happy Holidays everyone, I'll be out of town until the 26th or so.
