Ah I forgot about that myself as well. Need to remember to take that skill.

Hey, I thought that was me!

Shaeda Stormborn |

Shaeda one of them asked about being the product of Ameiko's father and a prostitue...would you like to be said prostitute or are you not interested in any dalliances with Longiku?
Are they 5 years old?
I'll pass.

Shaeda Stormborn |

Recently, I pointed out a rules issue for Leokian. Just now, I did the same for the GM with respect to AOOs.
So, I'm going to throw this question out there.
Am I out of line? I know there can be a dislike of so called "rules lawyers" in games, so just tell me what the group's thoughts are with respect to this.

Leokian Trasandoral |

Nope, not at all. Like I mentioned, I wasn't really sure since there are variants. I've played as I mentioned, but also the other way in PFS, which has a lot of special rules, Saved others some trouble looking into it.

Derric |

I don't think you're out of line. Personally when I goofed on rules as a Gm and someone pointed it out, I usually say okay but since we just did it and we made all of the rolls we'll count it but next time I'll try and make sure not to make that same mistake again.
I tend to like variant rules since we are using a few here and there. Also my knowledge of combat rules is a bit rusty at times so it's good that we have someone who isn't rusty at their combat rules.
Besides at least our gm didn't actually give his players a holy shocking corrosive flaming frost vorpal adamantine longsword +4. Um...yeah...I did. Still regret doing that to this day.
Btw what do y'all think of making our party an even six? We got a lot of really good applicants so I'm having a hard time deciding.

Derric |

So far I'm really liking Damien, Yvette, and Ielah but I'm going to wait and see what the others will be like. What do the rest of you think?

I haven't had a look.

Derric |

I'm interested in seeing this kitsune oracle Cuàn is making but I'm also liking the characters Damien, Yvette, and Ielah. I wouldn't mind having seven characters in our party personally. It would make things interesting, plus it gives us an extra character to fall back on in case one of the others drops out while we are adventuring.

Derric |

Now that I think about it having Jesse's paladin Leo would be good as it gives us another warrior in the group.
I also like taka as well. Having a summoner would give us another arcane caster in our group in addition to his ability to summon backup.
And since we are leveling when the gm tells us to I think having eight players wouldn't be a bad thing. Plus it increases our chances of survival as I have heard that some APs can go overboard with the number of enemies players face.

I've only been able to do a quick look through the submissions but without delving in deeply to builds I like Jesse Heinig's Paladin and Witch, I really like the witch. I'm fine with the idea of a pairing of one of them with the elegantlywasted's investigator.
If we're taking only two I'd say them.
If we're taking three, then the Kitsune Oracle is an interesting idea. Otherwise a second fully martial character would be a good thing to prioritize.
I can't get behind summoners myself. I don't like the class and they have big problems with balance. There's a reason that you see a few people shopping around their summoner application to game after game. For some people only that power level will do, and nobody wants them in their game.

Derric |

I see. I've heard some people mention that the summoner is a broken class while others say it isn't broken. Since I've never played a summoner myself I can't say for sure.
And yeah I like the witch too. The paladin is interesting as well. We have a lot of good characters to pick from so I'm having trouble deciding.
If I had to pick I would pick three or four characters. But that's just me. I'm not sure how big of a group our gm is comfortable with as he has final say who gets picked.
Now there's a player who submitted a tengu ranger and a kitsune oracle ideas. I'm particularly like the tengu ranger myself but the idea of an kitsune oracle having to make a journey to lift an ancient family curse is a good idea too.
Dang. This is getting difficult. We have so many great characters and a very short time to decide!

I think that the number should not go above 3. There are plenty of good submissions to choose from, but once we're going beyond 6 players, and maybe 5 is even better, everything is going to be slower. Even with no problems as such, the posting cycle requires more people, which will often mean more delays. Everyone has this or that thing come up now and then. It's nobody's fault, but more people means more temporarily idled characters or delays in postings. It just becomes baked in.
AP's are designed to be played by 4, and beyond 5 or 6 players, everything would need to be rescaled to the greater challenge the party presents.

"And how does your table feel about the Eldritch Guardian qualifying for Improved Familiar, and a standard familiar taking the Mauler archetype and--subject to Improved Familiar being allowed--later taking one of the templates offered by Improved Familiar?"
Maybe I just picked a grumpy day to look through submissions, but when I see this sort of thing I just stop reading halfway through because "NO" flashes before my eyes.
It is of course a personal preference of mine, but I dislike build-centric character concepts. It's really very easy to build an excellent character without having to wonder what the table will permit. I cast no blame in this particular case, because I'm not even going to look into the implications of whats asked for here. But this stuff always says to me that the player is looking to move the lines just a bit to get an extra 5% here and 3% there and if they can get all that they ask for you're handing them 25%.
Also, from my admittedly limited experience with PbP, animal companions and complex familiars are a pain in the @$$ to deal with. Another reason I dislike summoners.
I will conclude my rant now :p

Derric |

I was actually puzzled by that statement myself.
Anyhow I think we should go with bringing in additional three characters: the paladin, the investigator, and the kitsune oracle. While I liked the elven ranger and the witch, I know we need another warrior in addition to a healer and rogue. The investigator and oracle will do the latter two positions nicely while the paladin gives us both a warrior and additional backup healer.
I am however open to hearing y'alls opinions too now.

So my idea to get new players in:
Leodegrance and Damien you two have heard that the bounty on goblins has been reinstated and have left Sandpoint to strike it rich in the swamps killing said goblins. You will join up with the party when they make their way to the Licktoad goblin camp.
Kiko, being that you are the sister of Ameiko creates some interesting possibilities. You and your sister were on an adventure together when you and her were attacked by goblins. Shalelu was able to save Ameiko but you were not so lucky. The goblins subdued you but didn't kill you and you are being held hostage by them in their camp.
Sound good to everyone?

Shaeda Stormborn |

Almost asbadgood as the "you all meet in a bar" trope lol
There, I fixed that!
Welcome to the newcomers! Party hats and wine glass charms can be found on the counter next to the fridge.

Derric |

Welcome everyone to the game!
And yep that trope is a good way of introducing new characters!
Let's hope Kiko isn't in her true form. Goblins are stupid and we think she's some sort of two legged talking dog.

Derric |

Derric I just wanted to thank you again for all your help over in the recruitment thread. Selections have been made and I went with your recommendations.
You're welcome! Glad I could help out! Looking forward to rping with the new players!

Derric |

Hey Damien what deity does your character worship? Just curious since we have worshippers of Daikitsu, Shelyn, Iomedae, Desna, and Ashava in our party.
Btw, for our three new players how would each of your characters know of the others? For example, Derric has lived in Sandpoint for most of his life, having developed a childhood crush on Ameiko while growing up. He usually stays in his true form and pretty much most of the town accepts this. But I can see Kiko scolding him for doing it and trying to help him connect with his kitsune heritage which his adopted parents tried to hide as they didn't want him to become ostracized since kitsune are notorious mischief makers.
Also I think Leo and Damien would be friends with Derric but these are just suggestions y'all as I'm open to hearing your ideas and suggestions.

Leodegrance Tarrant |

Notably, Leo was trained in the interfaith cathedral in Sandpoint, so he is probably marginally more tolerant of other faiths than your run-of-the-mill stick-up-the-butt paladin.
I've no objection to Leo (& Damien, by extension) knowing of Derric since we're all natives of the same town.

Damien Tarrant |

Damien worships Cayden Cailean. Something about the random aspect of luck and the freedom to choose your own path appeals to Damien. He does sometimes pray to Desna as well
