So OOc I'm thinking tengu, but I figure Lyraesel's never seen a tengu before so she's just thinking big crow, and only just beginning to put that together with "bird people".
She might have encountered strix before.

DM Jesse Heinig |

On a sadder note, I've messaged Koan but not heard back. Looks like it may be time to start searching for yet another replacement hero!

Lyraesel |

Sigh. Hopefully the next one takes.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Yeah we've had pretty mediocre luck so far. :/

Lyraesel |

Posting may be a little erratic since I'm on vacation

DM Jesse Heinig |

Super-busy work deadline, super-tired. Should be updating tomorrow.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Still nothing from Koan, so it looks like it's time to hunt for a new skills character. Would you prefer to go back to the original applicant list, or start a new recruitment, or invite someone specific that you guys (or I) know from around the boards?

Morgrym Stonestepper |

I haven't been with you a long time, but I was picked up from your prior access list.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Yep, I like to go back to the old recruit list and find people who had previously expressed interest. But, that list is getting pretty short now, so if nobody there looks like a good fit for the current party, we can always do a new recruitment, or specifically invite someone you know.
Here's the remaining recruitment thread from over a year ago (some of these players probably aren't around any more):
Luanna Snowcaster Elf Monk Clebsch73 Shalelu (rescued)
Kharia Dwarven Barbarian Jason Lillis Koya Mvashti (rescued?)
Rakhel Half-Elf Lunar Oracle JAF0 Ameiko (best friends)
Wūyā Aikio Kaijitsu Tengu Ranger Robert Henry Ameiko (younger sibling)
Asako Kaijitsu Half-Elf Monk spectrevk Ameiko (best friend)
Bernard Human Rogue (Acrobat) Derz Koya Mvashti (friend of the family)
Ielah Yelah Human Ranger Azih Shalelu (mentor)
Camelia Half-Elf Hunter spinningdice ??

Vivnick Jisp |

Just tossing in my two cents here, but Kenji's already Ameiko's younger sibling in this game. It'd be really weird to suddenly have another sibling out of no where, not to mention wrecking the immersion. It was weird enough for me to just pop into existence outside Wolf's ear to join you. Also, there is no way of explaining how or where a player came in at this point. We're in an abandoned frontier town. I mean, yeah, there's bandits around, possibly a random rescue on our part? That aside, aren't most parties typically only 4 players? Do we actually need to replace Koan?

DM Jesse Heinig |

I specifically wanted to run a 5-person group.
While it might seem odd to have another younger sibling arrive, there are actually certain elements going on in the adventure right now that make it plausible if it's done in a specific way. (Trying not to spoil anything...)

Lyraesel |

It also becomes pretty difficult without a skill based character down the line. I'm for the replacement. Bernard or Camelia would be my pick.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Also, if we do recruit someone, we don't have to have the character magically appear right here. It can wait until we're at an appropriate moment.

Vivnick Jisp |

I'm not against it, I was just adding in my two cents. I've not played through Jade Regent before. I've also not done play by posts before. I'll to defer to the experts.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Oh! In case it wasn't clear, looking for a recruit doesn't stop the game. I'll keep moving Koan and if we get a recruit we'll make an introduction at an appropriate time. So keep exploring the castle. :)

Kaijitsu Kenji |

Bernard is my vote!

Morgrym Stonestepper |

I will defer to the original members.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Lyraesel's player has been super reliable, probably just something came up. I'll send a PM.
I haven't pinged our putative replacement yet as I wanted to wait 'til the group decided to go back to camp to do that. :)

DM Jesse Heinig |

Lyraesel's player checked in - had a super-busy work schedule, but should be posting tonight.

Kaijitsu Kenji |

Excellent! I figured something like that happened!

DM Jesse Heinig |

For the curious about the most recent battle:
* Dire corbies have ferocity, so they keep fighting at 0 hit points and lower.
* They're AC 13, so when Morgrym thought he missed... he hit exactly!

Morgrym Stonestepper |

I am shocked that I hit. :b

DM Jesse Heinig |

This also means that I screwed up in the final round: The corbies functioning with ferocity are still staggered, so they can't full attack (and thus can't attack with both claws). Doesn't matter though because they couldn't hit anyway!

Lyraesel |

They're vicious bastards.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Been sick, for those curious. It's just a really nasty cold. Lots of snot. Very painful congestion and sore throat. Keeps me tired.

DM Jesse Heinig |

I'll be fine - my S.O. is currently recovering from it. Just means I have very little energy to move around or think or whatnot until it clears up. :D

Lyraesel |

Sorry. Hope you feel better soon.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Still mending.
FYI, I made a satirical post on a humor thread, but I think there exists a possibility it could be misconstrued and reported, so if I am suddenly banned from the forums, well, that is that.

Lyraesel |

How badly would it have to be misconstrued?
Okay, just read the post......well damn!.....hilarious....but like a jerk takes a hammer to the face hilarious....you feel bad, but not bad enough to stop laughing.

Morgrym Stonestepper |

GM, can you link that post, I cannot seem to find it. :)

DM Jesse Heinig |

I see Lyraesel's player just got picked up for a different Jade Regent group that is on a later book, so no spoilers. ;)

Lyraesel |

Nope, promise.
It was recommended to me since two people I'm in another game with are in it.

Kaijitsu Kenji |

Oh nice! I hope to get into a rise of the runlords game with you, Jesse, but Yasu seems to be rather boring compared to the 3 DOZEN other applicants.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

We'll see - I did notice I was the only one to submit a cleric!
@Lyraesel: I'm just jokin' - I know you're a pro.

Morgrym Stonestepper |

Just for everyones info, with the ok of the GM, and a bit of handwavium plus retconium, a couple of my weapons have morphed into one.
My war axe, and heavy pick, have morphed into an urgosh, with the cold iron head being the spear side. :)
I am putting this out there, so that there is no confusion.

Lyraesel |

Nice!
I think I need a better primary weapon. Maybe a sickle or something. I'm sure well shop or find something at some point.
Actually a sickle is perfect since it's a trip weapon and I have improved trip, and if I'm in the right mode I get a second trip attempt if I hit with a bite attack.

Kaijitsu Kenji |

I... Have fire? :p
I think thats all im good at.

DM Jesse Heinig |

We'll make the switch official when you finish this encounter and get back to camp.

DM Jesse Heinig |

Oh, Kenji & Viv, let me know when your internet stuff is sorted out; in the meantime I'll keep taking actions for Viv.

Kaijitsu Kenji |

We JUST got it reconnected. Our machines have to do the "Oh we're online again, download ALL the updates!" dance, but once that's done we can do our own posts again.

DM Jesse Heinig |

I've sent a PM to the player of Bernard, who seems to still be active on the boards, and invited him to join us. I've worked out his story entrance in advance in case he accepts. :)

DM Jesse Heinig |

Bernard's player has responded and is willing to join. He's in the middle of moving so it may be a couple days on his end.

Bernard Mason |

Hey guys playing a game I didn't even remember applying to until about 20 hours ago. Looks like you guys have had some player longevity issues. I think I'm done with the crunchy-bunchy bits now. I don't know if Jesse wants me to scurry in and introduce myself while you guys are waiting outside the dungeon or wait until you do something else, so standing by I guess.
