Vivnick's parents were of the gentry class.  Aside from caring for their holdings, they were always tinkering with clocks and would often travel, seeking the perfect materials to use. These travels often took them through Sandpoint where they developed a friendship with the Mvashtis family.  After Vivnick had been born and old enough to travel, her parents started taking her along as well and instilled their passion for clockwork into her.  Vivnick came into her gnomish beauty early, but she never grew beyond three feet in height which became a sore point for her.  She often files into a rage when she believes someone has slighted her for her height.  In her early adult life, during one such trip, Vivnick became aware that one of her good friends in Sandpoint had become engaged to an adventurer.  Elated for her friend, she went to go meet the adventurer at her friend’s behest and establish a friendship with the man.  After an awkward meeting, which involved Vivnick discovering the adventurer was a fortune hunting, womanizing man whore that had misled her friend into almost losing her dowry and good name, Vivnick shattered his knee with a handy crowbar.  She felt no guilt for this, having saved her friend from the worst of marriages.  However a few nights later, she was visited by the ghost of her friend’s ancestry that told her she should take up the sword in the name of Desna, due to her liberating her friend from that cur of an adventurer, her good nature and love of travel.  When Vivnick awoke, she saw the most beautiful blue and white butterfly on her bedroom window.  Taking this as a sign, Vivnick immediately went to the rebuilt church of Desna and took the oath.
Vivnick visited with Niska before her death, promising the old woman that she would protect Koya should the woman go out on a long journey.  She had been out on a search for the perfect wood for a clock she was going to start working on when she felt the compulsion to seek out Koya.
