Janos Ardeal |

She's already got a shopping list... :)
5 MW suits of chainmail and 4 MW longswords would go a long way to a mithril chain shirt. If they have the material, that is.
Actually, looking at the inventory list, that cache was a huge gold mine. Probably doubled our whole party's wealth. It also is incredibly heavy. I want to get to the Spatterman as much as any of us, but do we need to return to town and sell this stuff? Or we return the heavy armor and weapons to the cache and come back for it later. Or we forget I ever brought this up and handwave suddenly carrying 300 more pounds.

Dantrian Almaeus |

If we leave the armors and whatnot here, deal with the Splatterman, and pick them up on our way out, Dantrian can manage it all while his mutagen is in effect. (albeit it'd be a heavy load, but he can manage it nonetheless)
We need to find B'yelka some muleback cords or a ring of ant haul or somesuch!

DM Jelani |

Hate to be a d*ck, but B'Yelka's already encumbered then. That chelish gown aint light. Noble's outfits are 10 lbs., entertainer's are 4, dilettante's are 8 lbs. So unless she becomes a nude adventurer she's probably already encumbered and might as well wear the armor.
And no Janos, we absolutely cannot handwave carrying 300 pounds of metal out of a pit until after there's nothing left down here that might kill you. Probably best to lock what you're not going to use right away back into the alcove and come back on the way out.

B'yelka Morfaine |

Well, if anyone was gunna be nude at least it's the charisma monster, to quote Haley Starshine, "I'm off to see what that 18 CHA is worth 'under the hood'" j/k
She should not be encumbered. She wears a 4 lb set of armor (silken ceremonial) and has a rapier, whip, haunt siphon and adventurers sash. If you would prefer that I put the weight on for a "noble's outfit" that's fine, it would increase the weight of her armor by 6 leaving her still under the encumbrance level of 26 lbs :)

B'yelka Morfaine |

I am digging the imagery of Janos, one of our strongest being laid low so easily and so quickly... This Iron Maiden scares me!
Well, digging it in a HOLY CRAP! kinda way... like a good scary movie :)

Anton Klasnic |

Exactly my sentiments.
If Anton wasn't immune to fear he'd be crapping himself right now :/
A haunted iron maiden. Ten points for coolness right there.

Dantrian Almaeus |

I think this pbp has struck upon a magical balance in party composition, player composition (this includes you, Jelani!), and posting rate.
It's not going so fast as to burn out, not going so slow as to stall, and everyone's posts (at least in my opinion) are genuinely enjoyable to read. It seems a rare thing for a pbp game to have all those elements at once.

B'yelka Morfaine |

As an experienced gamer, but novice PbP'er I would say it's because we all have characters that are relatable. The characters connect without being forced, or absurd. No "All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku" nonsense ;)
So, it's a balance of interesting characters (I for one want to see Dantrian's sub plot played out!) and mature players. There have been some PbP's that I have applied for that all I could think after applying was, "Please don't pick me!" I don't want to be obligated to play next to a twit. :) And here, we have a Twit-Free Zone ;)

B'yelka Morfaine |

Here is a linky to the VNV nation song I shamelessly put up in my last post ;) VNV Nation, "Homeward"

Dantrian Almaeus |

Hoooo! Please, please, please let me know if I'm crossing a Jerk-Event-Horizon with Dantrian =)
I don't want to stray too far over the Total-Jerk line if it's making things unenjoyable for others. I just want him unpalatable enough that when his alter-ego appears there might be some real drama as to which "side" of Dantrian the party is happier to have along. So, still trying to lay some foundation here, but I don't want to over do it.
So yeah, please please please please let me know if it'd be more fun to tone the alchemist down. =)

Drosil the Grey |

As long as you don't mind Drosil trying to make everyone "just get along", I'm perfectly fine with you bein' a twit. :-P

Janos Ardeal |

I love it Dantrian. You're hitting all the soft spots on us. I've decided Janos' mentor would be a lot like that, which accounts for his closed off nature and self-doubt.
Though, it is a little odd to see you being all helpful and genial in the discussion thread!

Anton Klasnic |

lol I also love it, it's making for great roleplaying in my opinion.
This whole episode has been quite emotional for Anton, he has a lot of empathy for Vesoriana and her husband because their sacrifice reminds him of the one his parents made for him.
That's why I'm playing him as getting riled up about it. Please don't take offence :)
Good job everyone.

Dantrian Almaeus |

As an aside in light of Jelani's expansion on Dantrian's growing paranoia, I haven't taken the infusion discovery, so I can't share my extracts anyway. So pbbbbbbbbbbbbbt! Neener neener neener! =P
And I presume we're at the Laughing Demon Tavern for this little shindig?
---
In a more serious vein, I presume this all occured after successfully liquidating the spoils from the prison?
If we'd like to handle the shopping off-screen as it were, can you let us know what's currently available in town, Jelani?
Is there anywhere else to purchase goods besides these 4 establishments?

Dantrian Almaeus |

Chill pill? You're all after me! The DM even said so! So I think maybe you all need some back-off pills. =P
Muleback cords or a heavyload belt would be nice to get B'yelka some more encumbrance capacity. Even more nice if it were a dainty version of the item. I'm sure she'd like a mithral shirt, too. I bet several of us would like one of those, in fact. I think she'd also look quite fetching if we got her a pair of boots of the cat =P
I'm gunning for a few things on Dantrian's wish-list:
- non-magical items
- some fuse grenades
- flash powder
- bottled lightning
- shard gel
- magical items
- amulet of mighty fists
- boro bead (level 1)
- formula alembic
- hybridization funnel
- mithral shirt or mistmail
I think an archon's torch would be sweet for Anton.

Anton Klasnic |

An archons torch would be nice but 750 for a one use item is steep at this point. Plus if i have to hold it for it to work i cant shoot my bow :(
Antons short term shopping list:
Masterwork bow
Ioun torch
Efficient quiver
Cloak of resistance
Medium term;
Magic bow
Dex boost
Mithril breastplate
Bracers of falcons aim

B'yelka Morfaine |

Dantrian, Boots of the Cat are *blue* not my color at all ;) Besides, a Ring of Feather Fall is not much more expensive and works more effectively :p
Otherwise,
Mithral Chainshirt, until 7th, then Mithy Breastplate. the chainshirt would give her 4 points of AC, a dramatic (and drama is everything!) jump up for her.
MW Scorpion, it's a cheap +1 to trip with
Handy Haversack (at least *one* in the party, if not specifically for B'yelka)
CHA headband or Circlet of Persuasion. Because B'yelka needs more gravitas
And, not least: a regular expansion of wardrobe!
I think that is the 'wishlist'. However, I am an old player and the idea of 'shop at your leisure' still sits oddly with me.

Tibideau Maroon LeClerc |

Top of Tibideau's wishlist is a Headband of Vast Intelligence. A Ring of Protection would also be nice. More longterm, a Metamagic Rod of Bouncing. Short term, scrolls and wands.
Do we have a Bag of Holding?

DM Jelani |

This is what they have spread around town:
Minor items: masterwork full plate, +1 light steel shield, +1
silver morningstar, +1 rapier, incense of meditation, dusty rose
prism ioun stone, ring of feather falling, wand of cat’s grace
(13 charges), wand of cure moderate wounds(19 charges)
Medium items: flesh golem manual, scroll of restoration,
wand of slow(6 charges)
Mundane weapons and armor also available. None of that alchemical stuff is.
How much money does the part have after liquidating everything Dantrian?

Dantrian Almaeus |

Selling just the masterwork armors, 4 of the 5 longswords, all the maces, and Janos' scale mail would net 2,554gp. Another 2,000 gp if we sell the spirit planchette as well.
Once ol' Splatty is dealt with we should still have a week or two before we're to leave for Leipstadt if we follow the Professor's will explicitly. I can attempt to craft some of those alchemical items at 1/3 the cost during that window, so those things not being available isn't a big deal.

Dantrian Almaeus |

That morning star is really attractive - especially since I'm sure we're bound to run into some lycanthropes at some point in this AP. I reckon Drosil wouldn't mind that rapier either.
Sadly, the ioun stone remains beyond our current funds - but otherwise that'd be amazing. There aren't many things that grant insight bonuses to AC, so that little stone would stay useful for ages.
The more I consider it, we may want to keep some of the masterwork items we have and get them enchanted later. Along those lines, I think when we get to Leipstadt we find a caster who can cast masterwork transformation on Anton's bow. That'll probably be easier than trying to find a masterwork bow that also has his desired strength rating.
---
Immediately though, if we only sell the equipment and keep the spirit planchette, I think that ring of feather falling would be a very worthwhile investment for 2,200 gp.
The wand of cure moderate wounds should work out to 1710gp if my math-per-charge is right. I wouldn't mind trading the spirit planchette for that, to be honest.

Dantrian Almaeus |

We did try it - with the furnace. It's really hard to present a single yes-or-no question and have it be very helpful. We'd asked if burying the bones we found inside the furnace would put it to rest and the answer was "No."
The more expensive versions would be a lot more useful in my opinion.

B'yelka Morfaine |

I say the Wand of CMW will be a good choice *after* we get the Rapier (assuming Dros wants it!) and the Morning Star. More magic weapons for hitting incorporeal makes me happy! That was a frustrating fight against the Lopper... :/
Also the idea of holding onto one or two of the MW weapons for later enchantment seems like a pretty good idea. Do we have any weapons in inventory that we would want to enchant?

Dantrian Almaeus |

Presuming the wand of cure moderate wounds is at the Unfurling Scroll, would it be possible to barter for say the wand and 300gp worth of scrolls in exchange for the spirit planchette, Jelani?
(looking at you, Tibideau, with regard to the scrolls - maybe a scroll or scrolls you could convert into spells known by Bonbon?)
I'd be down with selling the rest of the spoils and picking up either one of the magic weapons or the ring of feather fall if that's cool with the group.

Drosil the Grey |

Just to confirm - this includes getting rid of the marauder's hammer (it's a +1 light hammer?) as well as the +1 Heavy Mace? If that's the case, then sure, Drosil will take the rapier. If the marauder's hammer is a light hammer, though, it's finessable as well, so I'd just as soon say keep that, rather than spend the extra money for the rapier.

Dantrian Almaeus |

Actually, no - neither of those items are factored into the figures for selling stuff off. Neither are the Piper's flute or Father Charlatan's holy symbols (each will sell for 150gp).
I think the Marauder's hammer is just masterwork and it gives bonuses to Craft checks if I recall correctly. I don't think it has a magical enhancement bonus though.

Drosil the Grey |

Ah, then yeah - no need to keep the hammer as far as Drosil is concerned. That can definitely be added to the pot.
As for the +1 Heavy Mace, Drosil will add it to the pot if everyone's up for him getting the rapier, but it doesn't make much difference to him. After all, they're going to be done tomorrow as far as he's concerned, right? :-P

Dantrian Almaeus |

We've already learned that the Whispering Way murdered the professor. Dantrian sees resolving the spiritual unrest at Harrowstone as a necessary thing to complete prior to pursuing the professor's true killer(s) - so he in no way thinks things are nearly finished. Not by a long shot.
---
Ok, so if Drosil's off-loading the +1 heavy mace, maybe that can pass to Dantrian, Dantrian can add his morningstar to the sell pile, we can get Drosil a rapier, the group a nice wand, and (hopefully) a scroll or two for Tibideau to add to his already wisely chosen spell list.
(Seriously, Tibideau, glitterdust was an inspired choice. If I had to pick a single moment so far as a "Best Play of the Game" for chapter 1 - you picking that spell and using it on that poltergeist would be it.)
