I read a few pages and saw the last post linked another gameplay thread. Will this campaign post in both threads? How does this all work?

Edit: OK. I saw it was for big events.

Yeah, the second thread is for crossover events. We're just wrapping up the first of them. Those that follow should be a little less chaotic.

I stayed out late last night so I was unable to complete a character. I will have a one built tonight. Do you guys have a preference between:
1) Tiefling (Foresight) Diviner
2) Strength Based Scout Rogue
3) Fighter or Barbarian

Also is the new Slayer class an available option in this campaign?

Slayer is fine.

The tiefling would get along well given their natural skill at deception. Something that will come in very handy working with this group :P The advantages of a full arcane caster likewise cannot be ignored.

The Scout is also a strong choice, especially if you have a decent disguise skill :) This campaign is fairly skill focused, at least thus far.

A barbarian would provide us some excellent muscle which we are somewhat lacking. With a couple levels I'll be a little more suited to stepping into that role though.

I would hesitate to suggest the fighter, not only because we already have one but simply because they traditionally suffer from a tragic lack of skills outside combat...

In the end it's up to you, all of those characters can find a place in our little group, the important part will be keeping up with our more colourful personalities :P

Edit : Slayer also a very solid choice!

I figured skills would play a HUGE roll in this campaign! That is why I wasn't sure about the fighter. Thanks for the feedback. I'll get to working on something!

Ha, I had been thinking about multi-classing into the slayer. Guess if we'll be getting one that that won't be necessary! ;-)

I will probably be able to post some crunch on it tomorrow, but since you seem to be looking for some heavy hitting, as well as some arcane power, I was pondering the possibility of giving the Eldritch Knight a go :)

I am assuming the starting level is 1, which does not make for a particularly powerful character at the onset, but that could become quickly decent. Feral, how do you see the possibility of starting as a class (say Warpriest for example) that only gets into arcane at level 2 (am thinking Wizard) - could he perhaps be lugging around a spell book inherited from an ancestor, and only get around to decipher it at level 2, or something like that? I'm always hesitant regarding arcane casters that do not start their careers as such, and start mastering magic only later on during their life.

I am not going to be able to get a build together until tomorrow night or Saturday. I would really like the chance to be in this, but if you need to pick someone sooner and get a good application I understand if I lose my shot.

I worked on it for awhile tonight, but couldn't get into any of the characters I built. I don't like joining a campaign unless I love the personality of the character and have them well fleshed out in my mind. I has been a long week and I just don't have the inspiration tonight.

Ok. I think the reason I struggled last night is because I really want to build a bard. After reading the gameplay thread, I feel this would be the perfect fit. Both Kalam and Abramov should be putting up some good damage in a few levels, not to mention Halsanna's archery! Combine that with Yolanda's undead companion and I think you guys will be ok without another dedicated melee.

Wizard would be good, but I really want to have a diverse skill selection (not just knowledge skills). More importantly, bard is just where I see myself in this campaign (like a spy). He will be built to buff the party and control the battlefield while providing important skills out of combat.

If no one is selected today, I will try to have the crunch and blurb no later than tomorrow morning CST US. I maye be able to finish the background today at lunch :)

Kalam/Abramov-How do you guys feel about a bard? What would you like to see in one for this campaign? Inspire courage? Disable magical traps? Spells? (Definitely haste!)

*And Abramov could MC slayer if he wanted!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A bard sounds excellent! It's my favorite class for a reason :D

As far as things I'd personally like from a bard, solid disguise and inspire courage are high on the list. Though it's a bard, just have fun with it :)

Honestly? Play whatever you want. A bard would be just fine, but so would a wizard or slayer :)

I have decided. I am going to play a female bard whose mother was a maid in a decently high ranking politician's house. She lived with the family too. Though she received a decent education from the family's tutor, she was treated poorly by the man's wife and daughters. During coming of age, her mother died. Jealous of the girl's relationship with her husband (who had taken an obvious liking to the girl), the wife threw the girl on the street. Wanting to protect (and keep her close), the man secretly set her up to intern with one of the politicians he did daily business with. She and the man of the house started a secret romantic relationship. Not that she wanted it, but she was desperate and cared for him since he was the only "father" she had known. Her new boss taught her the ins and outs of politics and the elitist lifestyle. He had her trained in deception and espionage. She thrived in this position.

Things were going well until her boss was assassinated. She found out he had been dabbling in things he was not supposed to be involved in. Fearing for her life and trying to get out of the unwanted relationship with her former "father", she has now gone into hiding. She has made some underground contacts from her time as an intern and is trying to get back on her feet.

This is just brainstorming on my phone at lunch. I'll rewrite it tonight into a quality background with city details and then provide the crunch. I just wanted to get it on the table!

Looks pretty good to me!

Here is my bard. I will finish the background in the morning. It will flow roughly with the one I posted today at lunch. Thanks.

Diplomacy and sense motive will increase to +10 each next level due to Well Versed.

That's reasonable.

Since I was slacking and missed Edeldhur's questing (which I presume is why I didn't see more of an application), I'm going to give him the weekend to get something together.

Thanks Feral - I am on it now. I assume level 1, correct?

Background:

Ceinwynn was born in the Alabaster district. Not as an aristocrat mind you, but instead the bastard daughter of a house servant. Her mother had been "employed" as a maid in the house of Telvis Vandervale, first cousin of Mivonis Vandervale, for over fifteen years before her untimely death. Ceinwynn was only nine years old. With no known family outside of her mother, Ceinwynn continued living with the Vandervale family. She was responsible for many of the tasks her mother had been assigned. She worked hard for the family and earned the favor of the man of the house. He made sure his children's Halfling tutor would spend time in the evenings educating young Ceinwynn.

Born with graceful beauty, she attracted the jealousy of the women of the house, especially Vandervale's wife and two daughters. They treated her poorly, often mocking her as she cleaned. The daughters would parade around her when they received new ballroom gowns and discuss their social activities keeping Ceinwynn in ear shot. As time progressed, the jealousy increased. To make matters worse, Lord Vandervale's favor became more obvious as the half elf continued to grown into adulthood. On Ceinwynn's nineteenth birthday, Telvis' wife had seen enough. She demanded that her husband throw Ceinwynn out on the street. Knowing the girl had no where to go except Underbridge to eake out a meager existence and possibly have to turn to prostitution, the Lord secretly sent Ceinwynn to work for one of the local politicians who supported the Merchant's Guild. At this point, he offered the help only if Ceinwynn would meet have a romantic relationship with him. Though she despised the ultimatum, she did care for the only father she had ever known and wanted to please him and protect herself.

As the next two years progressed, she worked her way up in the the Merchant's guild and political scene of Magnimar. She found favor with several powerful men. She was trained in the art of deception and disguise. Her natural good looks and charming charisma aided in the success of her new career. As she progressed in power, she started refusing to meet with her former master though. This infuriated him, but she had gotten to a point where she could dodge him. Things were going well. She had always desired to be one of Magnimar's social elite, like the family she grew up with, and now she was attending important social events. She would work the room and report her findings to her boss.

Everything suddenly changed when she returned from a political dinner one night to report to her boss and found him dead. She immediately went into hiding. Over the next few weeks, she contacted the very few she could trust. She is now in disguise in Dockway renting a room at the Old Fang. She awaits word from one of her contacts on her next course of action.

Questions:

Share how often you can post/contribute to the game. I don't want to put unrealistic expectations on the group, but I'd like to shoot for one post per day on weekdays. If we go faster, I'm down with that.

I can post throughout the day and evening on mobile devices. At least three (plus) posts a day.

Share why your character is in Magnimar — is he/she a newcomer to the city or a lifer? What is his/her "day job?" Why would he/she be looking for taking on less-than-reputable work? What is her/her longterm aspirations for advancement in the Consortium (it's possible that he/she wouldn't even know that they are initially being hired by the AC, so it's ok if they're just looking for an immediate payout to start). This is also known as your back story.

Ceinwynn is looking for a way to survive. She now understands the "business" of Magnimar. She has worked with multiple less-than-reputable groups including the city's Merchants Guild, the political establishment, and members of the elite. Right now, she is looking for a place to start over while using her unique skill set.

GM Feral:

Would you possibly be willing to do some side (in spoilers) role playing for a day or so before I join the group to get me up and running? This is if I am picked of course. It is often hard to join a current campaign without getting a start. Nothing big mind you. Maybe just a meeting with my new AC contact in the Inn with news of what is happening with my back story and a hook for joining the current group. I could meet the group shortly after. This is just an idea. I am OK if you are against it.

The crunch is in her profile. I would be willing to tweak any of this if it helps the mechanics or story of the game. Thank you for allowing me to provide an application. I am a team player and really enjoy role playing. I work hard to include others in my group to develop camaraderie and help make the game successful. Please let me know if I am missing anything.

Thank you for the extra time to apply Feral - I do have a character and a concept, but most of the time I used to read through the gameplay and the connected threads. It seems to be an amazing play experience, and also one deserving a level of commitment I cannot put forth right now.

As such, and unfortunately, I am bowing out of the selection process, and leave room for others that will most likely be able to join and fully engage the game as it develops, instead of trying to join, risking not being able to keep up, and ending up more of a spectator than an actual player. I will keep on lurking around the gameplay though.

Good luck, and good gaming to you guys.
