Barek slide a pie across the floor to the goblin. "Are there any in the cell who are not from Thistletop Tribe? Someone from a different tribe?"

He whispers to the others. "We should see if a different tribe has a different story."

Somewhat taken back by their eagerness to slaughter the captured goblins, Mirela turns incredulously towards Thorn and Tunder. Raising her voice slightly, a note of empathy is apparent in response.

"Oh for pity's sake, are we savages now? Murder one in-front of the other Thorn? Honestly, unarmed and chained goblins are a threat to no one." Shaking her head, Mirela throws up her hands fruitlessly in frustration "You know what, do what you will gentlemen... but I'll have no part of it."

Storming from the room, Mirela stalls a moment at the door and looks back at goblin, crossly adding "I don't have anymore questions for this creature Ziza. You'll have to excuse me now, I've had enough talk of execution. I'll see you all at lunch."

"Actually Miri, I agree with you, I'll have nothing to do with summary executions either, thank you very much!" Aziza says, glaring a little at Thorn. <No point glaring at Tunder, he made his opinion clear from the very start, but I thought Thorn would be a bit more civilized.> "I hate goblins too, but I'll not murder a helpless captive, no matter how revolting the creature may be!"

Turning to Barek before she follows Miri out the door, she says "I agree that it may be worthwhile asking any goblin prisoners from other tribes to cross-check this one's answers." Aziza waves back at the bound goblin she has been questioning, "However I'm finding the air in here a bit too thick for my liking right now, so perhaps you and I... just you and I... can come back later for that. Thanks for your assistance, Barek."

That said, the little gnome stalks out after the Varisian acrobat, although she does thank the guards as well before she heads back to The Rusty Dragon. If she can catch up with Miri, Aziza will apologize to her. "What I said to the goblin at the start of the interrogation was just to get it's attention; of course I don't condone killing a prisoner! But goblins are base and violent critters, and nothing short of that kind of threat would have gotten it to speak with us. It was only a ruse on my part."

Thorn can get healed in the Cathedral. Since he is a hero and saved the church, the normal "donation" is waived, this time.

Seldon is all decked out in his new armor.

They and the rest all meet back up at the Rusty Dragon for lunch. Shalelu comes down from her slumber at exactly the appointed time, looking refreshed. She still carries the distant and cold manner however. She hugs Ameiko, it's clear they are old friends, but the Tien bard does not stick around long.

As Bethany lays out lunch, Shalelu unroll a map of the areas around Sandpoint for your reference, she then begins speaking.

"I am glad you came for this briefing. I wanted to give you a little more background on the goblins in the area."

"There are five major goblin tribes operating in the region. The closest to Sandpoint are the Birdcrunchers who live along the western edge of Devil's Platter, here." She indicates the portion of the map. "These guys have been around for years, but have never been aggressive to settlements before."

"There is also the Licktoad Goblins of the Brinestump Marsh. Their chief is obese monster called Rendwattle Gutwad. He is so fat it is said he never leaves the throne. These pests are good swimmers, and have been known to waylay caravans on the Road from time to time."

"To the east are the Seven Tooth goblins of Shank's Wood. If you look close you may see them raiding the junk and garbage piles at the bottom of the cliff near the Old Light. They had a champion named Koruvus, who used a man-sized longsword, but rumor has it he found a cave to hideout in, and hasn't come out."

"Farther east are the Mosswood Goblins, led by a tall muscular beast named Big Gugmut. This is the largest tribe, and the most aggressive, but they fight more among themselves than against any farms or towns.

"Finally, the Thistletop Goblins, led by Ripnugget a fierce chieftan. Their lair is on an island near the Nettlewood coast which some say bears resemblance to a decaptiated head."

"As if that weren't enough, there's also Bruzathamus. That bugbear ranger has a particular hatred for elves, and he and i have scrapped many times in the past. I promise he'll fall to my arrows sooner or later. He leads a small group of outcasts and they often raid caravans or farms taking what they want by force and using violence indiscriminately."

"Now, I must get back on the road, but have a few moments to spare as Lars and Hosk prepare my mount. Since you're the newest crop of goblin-slayers I want you to be fully informed, ask me what questions you have."

"The goblin we questioned was the Thistletop tribe. Long way from home. He said a man in a hood led them all to Sandpoint offering looting and killing. The man was on a separate mission, though. We know he led some goblins in looting a grave." He looks at Shalelu.

"Do you have any idea why a man would try to coordinate all the goblin tribes?"

Miri and Aziza, I had spoken that in Dwarven to Tunder. Plus it was a tactic on a beast, let alone you would not know what Thorn had said. I guess I need to spoiler it in the future.

Shalelu turns her cold eyes on Barek sizing him up. "You say a man united the goblins? I had wondered what the catalyst for their dropping their normal internecine ways and working together was. These are chaotic beasts, anyone who can hold them together must be powerful or have strong motivations. What was in this grave you speak of? Are we dealing with a necromancer here?"

Sorry I got the idea to build a Shalelu alias after posting the wall of text above. Don't sweat it Thorn let's just say your intent was clear to all. They won't hold it against you, i bet.

Heck, I simply missed the bit where Thorn stated he was speaking in Dwarven to Tunder, and since Aziza doesn't speak Dwarven, her response obviously never happened. Even if she had understood, by lunchtime she would have gotten over it.

Perching on the edge of the table so that she has a better view of the map, Aziza replies to the elven amazon "The crypt that was forced open contained the bones of Father Zanthus, the priest of the old cathedral, who died when it was burned down. And there were a pair of animated skeletons left behind as a surprise for anyone investigating the desecration, so whomever did it either knows some necromantic magic, or had a device or scroll with which to create those undead."

She continues to munch away at a large piece of pie left over from lunch, but tries to avoid getting crumbs on Shalelu's map. "I can't imagine why anyone would want the old priest's bones if they didn't have something nefarious in mind. But until we can identify the 'longshanks' concerned, or find out where he took the remains, I don't see much we can do about it." Aziza looks around at the others seated at the table to see if anyone disagrees or has any suggestions.

"Who says someone is holding them together, just offering them the chance to kill, burn and eat what they want. I am going way out there, but what if the daughter of the cleric did not die, and has turned against the town, gaining power and has collected her father's bones? There were three skeletons left in the crypt, likely ordered to attack anything that entered. Though there was no other graves unsettled so they were probably brought in, necromancy possibly, though a divine caster definitely."

"Hmmm. I remember the old priest and of course I remember the fire, but I do not know about this daughter you speak of. What do you know of her? Your guess strikes me as far-fetched but it is possible, I suppose."

"Find out what you can about this mystery man in town, and I will start sniffing around the goblin's lairs. I will start with the Birdcrunchers and Licktoads since they are closest."

"I will ride soon unless you have other questions. You have done well so far." This is the height of praise considering the source. Shalelu makes ready to depart as Daviren Hosk comes in announcing her horse is saddled and ready outside.

BTW, Father Zantus is still very much alive (so far...) The old priest is Ezakian Tobyn. Don't sweat it...

Meh. I'm bloody awful at remembering names in real life, let alone IG... :)

Aziza will thank Shalelu for the information and her words. "Meirr Desna riaina irrui, eln Gozreh rseld irrui lleais waedhas, ul irruis dseyarr."

Elven:
"May Desna guide you, and Gozreh grant you fair weather, on your travels."

After bidding the elven ranger farewell, Aziza will seek out Ameiko, or if the bard is busy, Bethany or Lars in the taproom. "Were you here when the old cathedral burned down? If so, do you remember the old priest and his daughter, and can you tell me anything about them which may suggest why someone would want to dishonor their remains?"

"Must you truly leave so soon?" Seldon says, clearly saddened by the news. He pulls her into an embrace. "We will do what we can, mellonamin. Safe journey."

Seldon motions for his kinsman to keep his voice down.

"The... cleric's daughter? How do you figure? Didn't the priest say she perished in the fire? And I do not think one of Desna's pilgrims would turn away from her like that..." Seldon says, cocking an eyebrow.

For the record, Tunder is all for treating prisoners with decency. He is, however, against taking goblins as prisoners. Also, don't forget that prisoners do get executed sometimes, including ones involved in raiding a town and trying to burn it to the ground.

Tunder listens attentively to Shalelu's rundown of the goblin tribes. "That prisoner of theirs said he was of the Thisteltop tribe and stayed on the head island. Do you know how they get to the mainland from the island? Swim? Boat? Bridge?"

Thorn keeps his voice down, whispering his thoughts. "I am just theorizing, her body was never found. Who else would want his remains? She likely would want to bring her father back to life, I know I would. So then the question was did they turn from the faith of Desna? I know these are hard questions and I am likely barking up the wrong tree but I don't know of anyother people that would want to burn the town to the ground and collect those bones."

"Shalelu, we are the figure heads at the moment, but when you get back I think I would like to ride out with you next time to cull the goblin tribes. Don't take any risks out there, be safe!" He speaks with affection and care of a kinsman.

"Seldon would you be willing to speak with Father Zanthius, or would you rather we brusque ones deal with it in our cumbersome ways?" Thorn says a bit teasingly.

Plainly Thorn says, "I know I can't help much in the interrogations, and such, so I am willing to talk to those around town, possibly read a few books to gather some information on my wild guess, unless someone does not want me to waste my time?

"While you do that, I'll be preparing to leave in the morning. Your prisoner said that a 'longhshanks' was with his tribe. We know his tribe is the Thistltops and we know the Thisteltops stay on head island. To me that be the place to solve whatever mystery you folks are trying to figure out."

"Hmm... together with what Shalelu has told us, and what we gleaned from that goblin prisoner this morning, I doubt we'd get much more, if anything, out of the other yrch in the cells at the guardhouse." Aziza muses out aloud. "Perhaps we should go and speak with Father Zanthius like Barek suggests. Maybe there's something he can tell us which may shed light on why Tobyn's bones were taken."

She starts staring at the half-eaten slice of pie which Shalelu left behind. "Also, I think Tunder may have the right idea; if this 'longshanks' is hidden amidst the Thistletop tribe, maybe we should go and try to smoke him out. Possibly nip any further trouble from the goblins in the bud, so to speak... but later, not tomorrow." Giving in to her sweet tooth, Aziza half climbs over the table, reaching for the remains of Shalelu's dessert.

Now mumbling through a mouthful of plum and crust, she says "We want to be ready before we go the tribe's lair. There could be dozens, if not hundreds, of the little buggers on that island. More than enough to swamp us if we get trapped or ambushed by them. Besides, we can't go haring off now - we promised to stay around Sandpoint and reassure the townsfolk while the sheriff is away. Once he gets back, then we can go goblin hunting, so in the meantime let's get as much done here as we can."

Now delicately licking the last crumbs from her fingers, Aziza looks around the table and smiles. "That's what I think at least, not that anyone has to worry about my opinion if they don't care to. Oh, and Thorn? I've no idea why you think Tobyn's daughter has anything to do with recent events, since everyone believes she died in the same fire as her father, but if you think you have a hunch, by all means, let's follow it up. It's never a good idea to ignore a gut feeling."

Listening intently to Shalelu, Mirela appears both interested and concerned at the same time. "Five tribes. I think the people of Sandpoint can expect more harassment if they have indeed united, or at least come to some kind of truce."

Following along with the conversation, Mirela raises an eyebrow somewhat skeptically at Thorn "You're right Thorn, that is pretty out there. No proof exists of the daughter's involvement, if indeed she did somehow survive the fire." Leaning against the wall, Mirela ponders a moment "Nevertheless, Tobyn and his daughter's death is a strange tale, as was the theft of his remains." With a tone of resolve, Mirela adds "I think maybe while Seldon speaks with Father Zanthius, I'm going to speak with the townsfolk, see what I can dig up about the late father Tobyn and his daughter. People in small towns know everybody else intimately; I should think there might be more than meets the eye with respect to Father Tobyn. Anyone care to join me?"

As Shalelu prepares to depart, Mirela thanks her for her help and information. After she leave, Mirela turns to her companions "I think Aziza has the right of it; we did promise the good Sheriff we'd look after things here until his return." Her mischievous grin returns, Mirela states with some determination "When he gets back, then we can deal with the Thistletop."

I think Miri will go about town inquiring into Tobyn and the girl; Miri has a good diplomacy score, and local knowledge, which makes her suited for the task of fishing for information. Aziza and Barek also have decent diplomacy and local knowledge respectively, so maybe they can join along to help?

Shalelu turns her cold eyes on the dwarven ranger:"The Nettlewood is dangerous and hard to navigate. I have only seen the Thistletop Island once, and that from a distance. It is not far from the mainland, a hundred feet or so as I recall, and I believe there was a bridge connecting them. It could be approached by sea, but the island is raised on a cliff and that approach may be treacherous."

"It is possible that your mystery man is not even at Thistletop, but with one of the other tribes or elsewhere. I will find that out with time. You should await the return of Hemlock, but I will not stop you."

To Aziza: "You are right. If you go into any goblin lair, prepare for a fight, there will be dozens of goblins inside and they are devious and cunning little rodents and will fight hard to protect their nests."

"Thank you for your blessings. The road is long and difficult, but I hope to see you all again under happier circumstances, when these troubles are behind us."

With that, she mounts her horse and gallops off for Tanner's bridge and the road towards Devil's Platter.

It seems some of you are going to see Father Zantus. Who? Mirela give me gather information (Diplomacy) rolls but also tell me (if you know) who you might go speak to. You have been introduced to or heard about several NPC's (there is a list on Campaign Info tab of some) and some may know more or different than others. If you don;'t know where to start I'll give you some random folks. What about the rest of you? Doing nothing is okay too...

Aziza approaches Lars and Bethany regarding the daughter of Father Tobyn. "She vas real beauty. Almost like angel. But wery quiet. I never spoke wif her." Lars says.

Bethany nods as you ask: "I had just come here with Miss Ameiko then. I did meet Tobyn and his daughter at the market once. What was her name? She was quite beautiful and someone told me her mother was a goddess but I didn't go in for that nonsense. Only met her that once though."

Barek grabs two more pies. "You all talk to the priest and anyone else who might have known Tobyn. I'm going to try and crack these goblins more. They might not know much, but they're the only ones who can tell us anything about their leader. Besides he had goblins with him at the tomb, right? Well, the usual suspects have been covered by Seldon and Aziza... so maybe Mirela could speak with some of the people we haven't spoken with at length yet. An obvious place to start is easy to track down folks like shop owners Rynshinn Povalli and Chask Haladan. Sandpoint notables like Mayor Deverin, other council members and town officials will be next on the list. Lastly, Miri will seak out people like Gorvi, and Naffer Vosk, and other miscellaneous citizens as even they could have some useful information. I'll generally look for older folks who might remember something.

Resolved to make a day sleuthing throughout Sandpoint, Mirela grabs something to eat before heading for the door. "I'll meet back with you all later this afternoon. Hopefully I can turn up something useful. Any suggestions on who I should talk to before I go?"

Sure, now you're gonna make me work for it...

Mirela the Detective:

Mirela goes out sleuthing with a stop at Vernah's (detail map Area 30). There she meets Rynshinn Povalli, a beautiful young half-elf. The shop owner is happy to have a Hero shopping at her store and smiles warmly when you come in. As a bonus the shop is filled with fine, hand tailored clothing some modest, some scandalous all of which is attractive to a wardrobe fiend like Miri.

When you get around to asking her about the priest and his daughter she says:"Sure I knew Father Tobyn and Nualia. The Father presided over my mother's funeral after she was...you know, The Chopper and all that." She frowns but continues. "Nualia was about my age and we knew each other a little. People acted all weird around her like her touch could cure disease, and it freaked her out a little. Some said she was an angel come to earth. She did date a local boy Delek Viskanta; her father didn't like him at all, but he took off before she got sick. Not long after the fire killed her and the good Father."

"If you see Seldon, would you tell him I said 'hello' and that his cassock is ready if he wants to come by sometime?"

Later, Mirela stops by the Curious Goblin (area map 22) and meets bookstore owner Chask Haladan. He is, like usual, buried in a book, but is happy to see a pretty lady. He smiles a leery grin at you as you ask about Tobyn and Nualia:"The Father was an exemplary individual. He was univesally admired by all. His daughter, she was a foundling, as I recall not his birth offspring, was Nualia. She was exquisite in every way. She was aasimar, I concluded. Not of this earth, indubitably. Too bad about her demise in the conflagration."

He reaches out and touchs your leg. "Perhaps you would like to tete-a-tete in a more comfortable environ? Over a Chelish wine perhaps? We could retire to my apartments if it please you."

Chew on that for a bit, and I'll get further inquiries up soon.LMK if you ahve follow ups.

Barek the Inquisitor:

Barek goes to see the other prisioner goblin (there is just one more). He brings pies as a reward. The goblin has heard from is mate that you answer some simple questions, they feed you sweets. He is veritbly giggling when you show up.

Curious how you're going to talk with him since he only speaks Goblin (and that crudely) and you don't. Going to bring Aziza or find someone local?

Aziza the Inquisitive and whoever else goes to see Father Zantus:
After waiting a while in the anteroom of his office at the new Cathedral, (which is richly furnished and fabulous, btw) he emerges.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. Heroes don't come to see my every day, but do have a higher power to keep happy." He smiles jovially at this comment and ushers you into his office.

[b]"Now what can I do for the famous Heros fo Sandpoint?"

Shoot your questions and give me a Diplomacy roll (or other skill if you play it a different way) and we'll see what he spills.

Seldon and Aziza:
Father Zantus says:"I did not know Father Tobyn. I came to Sandpoint once he died. I have not heard nor can I imagine the old Father having enemies who would wish him harm, unless they were enemies of the Faith. By all accounts he was a generous, loving, and kind man."

"If you wish it, I can let you speak with Brother Eamon who was here during the time of the prior Father and knew him well, serving in his household."

Seldon:
Your persual of the Cathedral's artifacts is very fulfulling and uplifting, but your research in the library is not. The only thing of interest you find is a certificate of adoption (or it's like) in the church records, showing Father Tobyn adopted a foundling girl baby and named her Nualia.

Just shoot me any further questions you have for Zantus or Eamon, ok?

Barek and Tunder - give me rolls for Bluff, Intimidate, or Diplomacy depending on how you play it with goblin #2. Also, give me your list of questions.

Thorn:
As you are working in the yard on your strokes and swordplay, the buxom red-head, Shayliss, from the prior evening arrives and interrupts. "My that is a big weapon, and you sure know you to swing it." she says, eyeing you up and down.

"I need your help, if I may be so bold. Can a hero like you spare a few momemnts for a girl in need? You see, I was in the cellar of our store this morning, and I saw a big RAT! As big as a goblin, it were!"

"I tried to tell my father, but he's so distracted by Katrine, (that's my sister), shacking up with Banny Harker from the mill, that he plumb left without doin' anything about it. I need things from the cellar today, but I am afraid to go down there with that big rat about. Will you come see about chasing it away?" She smiles sweetly and sincerely, but you can see she's plainly agitated by the whole affair.

Detective Mirela:
Your next visit is to the Town Hall to see the Mayor. Kendra Deverin welcomes you into her office:"Whereever did you get that smashing outfit? It's quite becoming, but you must hear that al the time, regardless of what you wear..."

She smiles sincerely. "Now, how can I help you?" As you explain about your interest in Father Tobyn and his daughter she says:"Father Tobyn was a close friend and confidant of mine, in addition to being my priest. He was an anchor to this community from the outset, and his loss was felt immeasurably. Our new Cathedral is nice, but I would trade it to have my friend back."

Regarding the daughter: "I know Ezakien had trouble with the girl. She was seeing some local boy, and he made a big deal of it. He wanted her pure to join the Sisters of Desna at Windsong Abbey, but like most youth she had other plans. I know they had a falling out over the boy, and he basically locked her in the church rectory, away from everyone, until she got sick. She had only just recovered when the fire came...Sorry, it still makes me quite emotional. We have all been through so much." She chokes out the last few sentences, but quickly blinks away tears choosing to appear strong. "Oh dear, what else can I help you with?"

Before she leaves with Seldon to go speak with the new priest, Aziza says "Barek, if you want to try questioning the goblin captives again, I'll head over to the guardhouse from the cathedral once Seldon and I have spoken with Father Zantus, if you want an interpreter?"

At the cathedral, after Father Zantus has suggested speaking with Brother Eamon instead, Aziza will apologize to Seldon. "Um, I think I may leave speaking with the Brother to you. You know how to speak with the clergy, and since you want to peruse those scrolls, I'm guessing that you'll be here for some time. Sorry my friend, but religion is not real interest of mine, unless there's pies and games involved, of course!" She smiles to indicate that she is, of course joking about the last part. "Besides, I think Barek will need my help as an interpreter with the goblins over at the guardhouse, and that's probably a better use of my meagre talents than trying to assist you, when you clearly don't need any help."

So after seeing Seldon ensconced with the cathedral's scrolls and waiting to speak with Brother Eamon, Aziza will scuttle back to the guardhouse to find Barek. "Sorry for the delay, Barek. Father Zantus couldn't tell Seldon and I much himself, and Seldon is still there waiting to speak with a Brother who was in Sandpoint when Tobyn and his daughter were still alive. I thought that I could be more useful here. What do you want to ask these little buggers this time?" She frowns at the giggling goblin on the chair...

Barek walks back into the jail with Tunder and Aziza in tow. He tells the guard to retrieve the other goblin and sits the little devil down. "So I gave the other goblin some pie for talking with us. Again for the sake of readability I'll dispense with flavor text and spoilers in goblin, since everything Aziza says here is being translated back and forth.

Aziza will translate any questions from Tunder and Barek into goblin to the captive being interrogated, and likewise relate the answers back to them in common. Every non-hostile and useful response from the goblin will be rewarded with a slice of the pie she brought with her. Hostile or evasive answers will be met with a tap on the head from her staff. Aziza has a few questions or her own that she'd like to ask too;

  • "Where all you goblins sneak into town? Climb over walls, climb up cliffs, or get in some other way?"
  • "Longshanks which lead goblins on raid, they only longshanks help goblins, or other longshanks help goblins too?"
  • "You have warchanters with you on raid, we kill some of them. You have more warchanters or magic in your tribe?"

Once Barek, Tunder and Aziza are satisfied that the captive doesn't have anything else useful to say, she'll politely ask the guards to take the goblin back to the cells. Since she's curious, she'll also ask the guard "What's going to be done with all these goblin prisoners? They're too dangerous to release and they can't be trusted to keep a parole. Will they be tried somehow, sent elsewhere for detention, or executed?" Oh yes, since she doesn't want the guards to be upset that the filthy yrch are being given pie, she'll bring several pies and a flagon of ale for them too...

I'll deduct 15 silver pieces from Aziza's current wealth to pay for the pies and the ale.

  • so much to post, so little time. I spent most of the day driving back from the beach in thick traffic with gobs of rainfall, so I am not getting much posted today. Will get responses up tomorrow sometime, good stuff all of you...

The goblin glares as Tunder makes his threat about killing the prisoner,a dangerous light n his pale eyes, but he does not say a word in reply only licks the last crumbs off his long fingers.

Any more follow up questions for this guy?

When asked about the fate of the goblin, the guard shrugs. Hemlock will decide what we do wit 'em when 'e gets back from Magnimar. Bin too good to 'em already, ya ask me. Tie 'em to a stake an' burn 'em I say."

    Thorn:

Here is a pic of Shayliss

The girl playfull pushes your hand away, but leans close brushing against teasingly as you as you walk towards her family's store (Area 26 on Sandpoint Map). "I am so grateful a big strong hero like you can help me with my rat problem. It's down there, I'll show you," she says as you arrive at the General Store. She leads you to the cellar stairs and lights a lantern. As you descend, she stays close behind, saying: "I need to show you where I seen him last."

The light from the lantern illuminates the cellar poorly and you see crates and boxes of dry goods and several barrels and casks. There are racks of jars along the walls and some old furniture and odds and ends in one corner.

"The rat was back there, behind the salt barrels. I'm sure there's more of 'em if I seen one." She points to a spot behind several of the barrels near the a dark corner.

Seldon, do you go see Brother Eamon or head back to meet up with the others after your research? Mirela, any more folks you want to see specifically?

Sorry for the delay, was away up north for the weekend.

Meeting with Rynshinn and Chask Haladin had proved most informative, albeit awkward with the latter. Realizing the bookworms intent, Mirela laughs in a not unkindly manner but takes her leave of him "While Chelish wine does sound lovely Master Haladin, you'll have to excuse me, for I have an appointment with the Mayor Deverin." Of course, that was a half truth; no such appointment existed, but Mirela did intend on meeting with the Mayor.

Leaving the shop, Mirela scribbles down a few key words on a sheet of paper Nualia. Aasimar. Boyfriend Delek Viskanta. Illness. Rynshinn attracted to Seldon. Finishing the last note brings a quick and mischievous smile to the young acrobats face. "Off to the Mayors."

At the Mayor's residence, Mirela soaks in the praise... she always loved praise, especially from her social betters. Looking herself over, Mirela laughs lightly "What? This old thing? It's Chelish. They may be an overly decadent society, but they do have the most fabulous fashion sense." Quietly, Mirela immediately cursed herself implying any connection with the Chelish, be it fashion or otherwise. Why did I say that? I need be more careful.

Listening to the Mayor intently, Mirela jots down a few more notes. Over bearing father. Nualia rebellious. Convent at Windsong. Recovered from illness. Fire. Seeing the Mayor in an emotional state, Mirela puts her quill down and places her hand over the Deverin's to comfort her "I'm so sorry Mayor Deverin, I didn't mean to pry. Listen, I've got everything I need. We're just trying to figure out why the Goblins wanted Tobyn's body, so we're piecing together any possible motives. Standing up, Mirela gives a quick but polite curtsy "I think your worship. I'll be on my way now, I have a few more people to speak with.

After speaking with a few more folks, Mirela will head back to see if how the interrogation is going. If the others are gone when she gets there, she'll head back to the Inn.

"Did any goblins in cells here enter town through secret sneak way, and if so, which ones?" asks Aziza (still speaking in goblin), "And did longshanks you say smell like elf, him same one in hood lead you into Sand town? Did he smell like elf too?" Depending on the goblin's answer to the first question, she may want to question more goblins about the other route they took to get into the town. Otherwise, Aziza will translate any further questions Barek or Tunder may have, and give them any replies from the prisoner.

@Aziza: There are only 2 goblins held in the cells. You have questioned them both. When asked for clarification, Goblin #2 says:"Longshanks, same same. Smell like elf, but when talk, sound like man."

I think that clarifies, but ask any other questions while you have a chance.

After so long sitting in the Cathedral, Seldon begins to get antsy. He sits down among the standing stones a while to pray, for Ryinshinn's missing father, for justice for Father Tobyn, and for fate to speed along his next journey. As Barek, Tunder and Aziza leave the guardhouse, the little gnome excuses herself from the two warriors. "I'm just going to go up to see the cartographer, Elder Parooh. If there's a 'secret way' into the town, maybe he has some old maps or charts of the place which show any tunnels or such which the goblins used. Probably won't find anything, but it can't hurt to ask. Also, I want to see if the armorer has any weapons made for someone my size. Never hurts to be prepared. See you two back at The Rusty Dragon for dinner?" Aziza gives the pair a brief bow before turning away and heading past the town hall towards Savah's Armory. She pauses after a couple of steps, then turns and calls back to them. "Silly me! You're both warriors... why don't you blokes come with me as far as the armory? You can advise me whether or not the wares are worth spending my coin on."

Aziza is going to upgrade from a quarterstaff to a spear, if Savah's Armory has any small-sized weapons of decent quality. She won't be able to use it any better than the staff, but the goblins should still get the point... <waits expectantly for everyone to groan>.
