Game Master GM Darkblade

The Giantslayer Adventure Path begins in the fortified town of Trunau in the southern part of the Hold of Belkzen. A series of strange events trouble the beleaguered town. At the town’s request, the PCs must uncover the source behind these events and step in to save the town from forces which seek an end to Trunau and it's peoples.

Regarding equipment, GM Darkblade, are we allowed to keep rolling for stuff until we don't have the funds for it any more? For example, since I didn't get the Efficient Quiver, can I turn around and try now for a Handy Haversack?

I suppose so, as long as it is an item no one else has already purchased. Trunau is not a major trade route and multiple instances of items valued over 750 gold are not likely.

Ah! No, I didn't notice us finding them before or I'd have certainly gone ahead and added them. Thanks for pointing out my error, though. That's going to bring my final purchase list up to the following:

So far I think my favorite of the presented PCs in the recruitment thread is Maslyn. I like the focus on knowledge skills and feel that would be quite beneficial to our group.

For Maslyn:
Nicolae "Nic" Plamen was a Varisian pathfinder known for his involvement in researching Thassilonian artifacts and magicks. He was involved a few years back with a band that was reputed to have had several successes in retrieving a variety of artifacts from fallen Thassilon. He was a vocal critic of the merger between the Sczarni faction and the Exchange, choosing to become a semi-retired agent at large but he remains a friend and ally to the Society. Some whisper he is an agent of the Decemvirate despite his oft times vocal criticisms regarding the overly political nature of the group and it's various venture captains.

The symbol crafted by the connected twisted wire loop is that of a sihedron.

Cham and the staff of the Ramblehouse can remember little else about the missing pathfinders. They were three weary travelers, a bit roughed up from a recent battle; a pair of dwarf siblings lead by a burly human cleric of Cayden Cailean.

A guardsman recalls the group you described, mentioning that there was also a fourth with the group, a half-orc hunter who had come to town selling hides and trophies. They left together heading north towards the Kestrel River.

Maslyn has 9 Faction/Prestige Points with the Pathfinder Society, to be used as appropriate for the Society.

Is Maslyn a member of a particular faction with the Society, or is he a member at large?

To everyone else, this may be the last chance before the next AP to join up with an organization. This is not necessary, but as it had been offered previously I thought I would mention it one more time before we get underway once more.

Crusaders of Lastwall:
The Crusader of Lastwall were founded with a singular purpose in mind, to keep watch over the Whispering Tyrant, Tar-Baphon, imprisoned in Gallowspire, and to assure the orc hordes of Belkzen never grow strong enough to free him.
The Crusaders of Lastwall are represented by the paladin Brantos Calderon. He will be in attendance at the farewell dinner as Tyari Varvatos' escort.

Green Faith:
The Green Faith (also known as the Old Faith) is a naturalistic philosophy based on the belief that natural forces are worthy of attention and respect. Followers of the Green Faith meditate daily, commune with natural forms of power, and show respect to nature in all things. Although the Green Faith is based on nature, one need not be a druid to value its tenets, nor do all druids necessarily count themselves as members of this philosophy, although almost all of them appreciate its values.
Silvermane is the Green Faith representative in Trunau. He will be in attendance at the farewell dinner.

Ninth Battalion:
The Ninth Battalion is an inter-clan group of dwarf warriors dedicated to defend the remaining dwarven enclaves on Golarion. When enemies threaten a clan home, the Ninth Battalion will soon be there, answering the call for aid. The headquarters of the group is the Earth Axle, a massive stone fortress constructed on an island at the center of a mountain lake, and said to be close to a Sky Citadel.
Agrit Staginsdar is the default liaison to the Ninth Battalion in Trunau. She will be in attendance at the farewell dinner with Sara Morninghawk.

Pathfinder Society:
The Pathfinder Society is a globe-spanning organization based out of Absalom, the world's largest city. The membership consists primarily of Pathfinders, adventurers who travel throughout Golarion—usually inconspicuously—and explore, delve, and otherwise experience the lesser-seen parts of the world. They send journals documenting their travels back to their venture-captain, who also assigns them new missions and suggests new places to explore. The most exciting and illuminating of these journals are compiled in the Pathfinder Chronicles, an ongoing series of books which collect the history and mystery of Golarion for their membership.
The Pathfinder Society has no appointed representative in Trunau, though a former member and agent is currently at the Barterstones with his Varisian caravan, one Nicolae Plamen.

GM Darkblade mentioned that we do not have take it all but I like to be prepared and I have lots of room in the Bag of Holding for now.

I know that the group had a mass loot sheet for the first chapter of this AP but going forward we should be adding all treasure and gear we pick up to our character sheets. If it gets to heavy we may have to leave some of it behind.

Okay everyone, sorry for the delays. As I said previously with the work schedule change I am pretty much unavailable Mondays through Wednesdays dealing with that. Yesterday my soon to be legal age son decided to go off on a dangerous, wild streak that ended badly. Nearly treated as an adult type bad. So yeah, I was dealing with the aftermath of all that.

Hopefully things are calm enough now to get back to this, an escape of sorts.

I believe everyone has responded about their interests in Factional groups so I will next post to the particulars.


Green Faith Faction:
Over the past few days Adir and Delia have had several private meetings with Silvermane, detailing the events they experienced and learning lessons from those interactions as Silvermane sees them. In doing so Silvermane slowly began to indoctrinate them into the deeper teachings of the Green Faith. He expresses to them the importance of the environment and nature around them, the lessons it offers and the messages it may convey to those keen to it's subtle voice.

You have a current equivalent standing of 10 Prestige amongst the community due to your actions during the Battle of Bloodmarch Hill. You have 5 PP remaining after receiving the below benefits.

You are currently an Initiate of the First Circle and considered a worthy member of the Green Faith community in Trunau and the surrounding communities. This entitles you to the following benefits.

1) Your affiliation with the Green Faith has given you special insights into the natural world, providing you a +2 circumstance bonus on all Knowledge (nature) checks. {Membership: Green Faith}

2) You gain a bonus language from amongst the following list: Draconic, Elven, Fey, Giant, Ignan, Orc, Sylvan, or Terran. This language is being taught by Silvermane and is rudimentary at the moment, but enough is known to be understood by a native speaker, if only as a pidgeon mash of phrases. {Initiate Level 1}

3) You gain a +2 bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks against native speakers of the above chosen language. {Initiate Level 1}

If desired, you may apply some of Silvermane's teachings to become an Ovate, cost 1PP to gain the title of "Ovate" and learn how to invoke the right of safe conduct as a full-round action once per day. It is similar to a language and concentration dependent Sanctuary spell.

Adir may spend 5PP to add Rage as a second level spell to his Druidic Spell List.

Additional options will become available as you earn additional prestige points for actions taken during the campaign.


Pathfinder Society Faction:
While Trunau does not have an active Pathfinder Society chapter house, there are those who are familiar with the Society and friendly to it's goals. One such example is the former Pathfinder Nicolae Plamen, a varisian evoker, trader and caravan owner. His traveling wagon train sells a variety of goods and services to the communities he visits, including his well crafted alchemical concoctions and mechancial devices. Nicolae often acts as a courier and go between for many groups and individuals, with those secrets he gleans well protected and shared only with those involved in their stories.

Nicolae has also slowly indoctrinated the Messon's of Trunau, lady Jess and her husband Gorkis, into the Pathfinder Society as sympathizers and express agents, entrusting them as a relay station for his vast information network. Both he and their shops, That 'n' such and Meeson's Goods & Salvage work well together passing pathfinder missives and agent reports back and forth with Absalom as well as receiving specialty orders for affiliated members back to Trunau for local distribution. It is through the Meeson's that Songan was offered tenative membership in the Society and that Maslyn has been able to check-in with the Grand Lodge and receive his latest assignment.

Maslyn has his Prestige and PP already. Songan has submitted his first journal to the Society for review and consideration. In the interim Nicolae has offered him probationary membership with the organization. Songan has 10 Prestige and 10 PP to be used to purchase benefits from the Society. These are included in the Pathfinder Society Guide, available from the Paizo website. I can link to it if needed.


Ninth Battalion:
A few days after the Battle of Bloodmarch Hill Agrit Staginsdar sent a special message to Dundin requesting his presence at a special meeting at her shop, the House of Wonders. The shop was closed after the recent battle for renovations but a small meeting room in the back was cleared save for a few chairs, a table of food and pair of kegs, and three dwarves waiting for the weary ranger. Agrit introduced Dundin to the other pair of dwarves, an aged, battle scarred mountain dwarf named Chardson Helmrunner and a slightly younger hill dwarf known around Trunau as Holgarin Stoneshield. Helmrunner is a distant relation to the general of the Ninth Battalion while Stoneshield is a commander for forces located in the "Conquered Lands," the stretch of plains from the former Hordeline to Lastwall's current borders.

The trio spends the remainder of the day and much of the evening drinking with and informing the young Hero of Trunau about the history of the Ninth Battalion, the importance of dwarven solidarity, and what role Dundin himself can play in protecting the future of dwarves, both in Trunau and the wilder lands of the Hold of Belkzen. Dundin learns of small units of battalion forces operating behind the scenes striking out at orcish raiders and related operations across the region, as well as larger groups patrolling the mountains waging a guerilla style campaign against an upswing in giant tribe migrations. While no useful information is available, the group hopes that if Dundin discovers anything of importance in his travels he will quickly and openly share it with the Battalion.

The group mentions that while Agrit has turned her back on her own martial heritage she is still a true and loyal daughter of the citadel and will act as the ranger's contact with the Battalion. The group then spends the remainder of the night feasting, singing battle songs, and honoring those dwarves fallen to the blades of their enemies, past and present.

Power of the Giants: From the energies leaking into the darkness below Bloodmarch Hill and liberating the artifacts lost there, you have found you now have the mystical ability to match their size and strength when fighting them. Once per day, you can cast Enlarge Person (self only) as a spell-like ability. The caster level for this effect is First Level.

Siege’s Resolve: Through your trial by fire, you have proven capable of fending off overwhelming numbers while defending allies. As a free action on your turn, one time only, you can gain a +2 insight bonus to your Armor Class for 1 minute when threatened by three or more opponents. Against creatures with the giant or orc subtype, this bonus increases to +3 and also extends to any allies that are immediately adjacent to you.

I understand and have no desire to force anyone into belonging to anything beyond their wishes. The organizations presented only offer minor boons in exchange for certain roleplaying interactions and are not necessary to resolve the AP and ultimately slay the Storm Tyrant. They may be helpful along the way but everything could still be achieved without them.

Then again, Han Solo never really joined or even cared for the rebellion either, preferring to remain a scruffy looking nerf-herder and part-time smuggler, albeit one with a fancy schmancy General's rank to go along with it.

I will also spend the extra 1 PP for Ovate title. That's a rather interesting ability. Delia will gladly accept the additional abilities.

Since no one has spoken up about Brinya's Love, Delia will keep it.


A successful Knowledge(Religion) check would give you some insight into how to lay the tortured spirits of the Plague House to rest. It would require a higher check, but it may also be possible via a successful Knowledge(Arcana) check, as it does deal with necromantic or negative energies.


As she was the only player to make the Wisdom check, Delia is the only character to remember the mercenaries from Freedom Town which aided the orc saboteurs, as well as Skreed's connection to one of them, the female from his letter and the locket he wore around his neck. The locket was replaced by the noose thanks to your testimonies, and now is in the custody of the militia at the Longhouse.

Sorry for the timer there folks, but I thought it would be a simple way to determine who was paying attention, and who was distracted by "real life" around them. This encounter is to make up for the skipped assassination attempt I rewrote in the first book, and helps provide some context for things yet to come in this book.

It was also a sort of homage to an encounter I experienced early in my gaming career, a feast from Tomb of the Lizard King. Our group was playing weekly at the local library, in a spare conference room. The librarian was a gamer who did not play with us young teens but understood we needed a safe space to let our imaginations run free, without the nervous fretting of parents in the early 80's.

We were starting a new adventure and had all chipped in for pizza and sodas. The DM used that meal as our introductory "feast." We sat there ad-libbing talking to angry and scared merchants, occasionally answering a question or two from the baron and basically not paying attention to what was going on with the infrequent comments the DM made about guards coming and going, priests mumbling blessings, the busty serving wench flirting with our paladin, etc. Then as the pizza was down to it's last slice and we were looking to soon take a biology break the DM pushed back his chair, gave his "Death to you all" or some such line speech and counted down from ten. Only one of us caught on quick enough to jump back from the game table and look around for the guilty attacker before the Flame Strike hit and slew several of our fellow guests. Luckily none of our party fell to the attack, and the lord's healers readied us up before we left the town, but it was a great pre-LARPing experience we all enjoyed.
