Rah the Reincarnate |
Rah nods to Quiven. "Yes, this should restore our physical bodies to their original forms. Good thing too, as I wouldn't feel right leaving this one in a different shape then it was when I arrived."
Reflecting upon their adventure, Rah wonders if the village of Blackcove will ever be able to return to normal after all it has been through.
I think this was a challenging module with many parts that require a lot of attention, and I think you did a great job with it. I don't think this is a module that can be quickly run or played. The only thing I'm a little unsure of is the motivation for the aboleth. What was it trying to achieve? Tansform the villagers into skum slaves and get them to free some ancient Cthulhu evil to take over Golarion?

Glad you liked it! The aboleth, Mohl'omog, had been imprisoned by its fellows under the island since before Earthfall, and had actually been influencing the scholars of Nal-Kashel since the city was founded. (There were clues to that in some of the literature you found in the archive; the Seventh Column was actually trying to kill the aboleth when they were caught and executed.) After Earthfall, though, it went into hibernation, and remained there until Gerlach happened by. Gerlach nursed it back to health in return for the promise of a cure for the skum transformation that afflicted the 'Covers. This did not end well for Gerlach, as under Mohl'omog's influence he turned into a skum himself (though not before he devised a cure). Mohl'omog then sent out a call for the ulat-kini, and they in turn captured many of the 'Covers to dig a tunnel for Mohl'omog to free itself. (It's not clear to me, thinking about it, why Mohl'omog didn't drink one of the levitation potions and escape up the shaft. Maybe it was too tight a squeeze?)

The pounding sound was the skum by the aboleth, and the aboleth itself, trying to break through the wall. The wall had 90 HP and a hardness of 8; if they'd managed to break through, it would have flooded the area even more, and the aboleth would have been able to swim to freedom. It kept one skum back near it in case it needed to talk to the party--it doesn't speak Common, and it's not telepathic. The others it sent to try to buy it some time.

Thanks for running this Carbide, I appreciate your attention to detail.
"What a bizarre place, we will certainly have much to report back in Absalom!" Maddie says with some excitement at the prospect.
