The girl freezes in her motions, glancing sharply at Sorua. The fox's hackles are raised, and he is silent, but his tail bristles in his wariness.
Tess scoops up the bundle of red fur, making soft hushing noises to calm him. She turns to Jokum, eyes wide behind her spectacles. "Something wants to get in here, and Sorua doesn't like whatever it is..."

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Ah, we're in their little guard post. Well that makes things much more interesting...
"Something definitely wants to get in," Jokum says, before moving to listen at the other door, "but I'm not sure what it is....it's not impossible that it might be a prisoner or the like."
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Xaivan Slingblade |

Only one way we're gonna find out. Xaivan readies his bow and waits for somebody to open it. He'll be 25-30' away from the door.

![]() |

Pollux moves 15' oppposite the door and prepares his spear. "I'll weather a charge if whatever is on the other side wants a fight. Two others should flatten themselves on the wall near the door and flank it. If it is a prisoner, our positioning will still be good."

Tesseract Squires |

Tess hovers near the door uncertainly, then looks around and darts back near Pollux. She places a still-wary Sorua on the ground near her feet and wrings her hands nervously. "Oh, I hope it's someone friendly...

Tesseract Squires |

"Wait! Don't open it! It's going to eat me!"
The words burst from her mouth before she can contain herself. She blushes darkly at the unintended exclamation, but snatches up little Sorua in the blink of an eye.
"Let's-- let's leave it. Whatever it is. Please? Can we... can we just leave this door shut?" Her voice is fragile, and she's close to tears-- still haunted by the overwhelming fear that had surged so powerfully from the tiny red fox she clutches tightly to her chest.
I know this is an adventure, so we'll probably still open the door.
As the others prepare themselves, Tess moves far from the door with Sorua, keeping an eye on the party, but hoping to keep her frightened fox calm.

Ce-Eshna Lightfoot |

Ce-Eshna gives the girl a look of sympathy but steels her resolve. "If it is that dangerous we can't leave it at pur backs to come at us when it gets itself loose. Better to take it now, on our own terms, when we are ready."

Pollux puts his spear away and takes out his mace. "What good are tactics if no one cares enough to carry them out?" he opines as he walks toward the door. He prepares to open it, saying a small prayer for guidance. He then kicks open the door, prepared to bring his mace down on anything hostile on the other side.
Taking about 2 rounds to do this, my actions play out like so.
Round 1: Move to door, standard action to cast guidance.
Round 2: Open door, ready standard attack if the thing is hostile on the other side.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Tesseract Squires |

As Father Pollux strides forward, Tess attempts to swallow her fear. "Hush, little one, nothing's going to eat you...." Her murmurs are directed toward Sorua, but they seem to help slow her racing heart as well.
She tucks away the kit in his special bag, and takes a deep breath, summoning her courage. You're not a child-- you've got to learn to act like you're not, at least!
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Round 1: Place Sorua in Satchel, move to within 20 feet of the door
Round 2: If whatever is beyond the door is hostile, Tess casts an evil eye (DC 14 Will: -2 to AC) upon them before Pollux attacks.

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

"Well," Pollux says, flinging the lizard guts from his mace, "That was a thing."
He walks into the pantry and searches around for anything useful.
Perception(search check): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Tesseract Squires |

pink-scaled, pink-eyed lizard
It was a one-eyed, one-horned flying purple people eater!
Tess blinks at the efficiency of the slaughter, then frowns. "You were afraid of that?" she murmurs to the bag where Sorua is curled up. She feels him squirm in protestation of her disbelief, and she pokes at the tooth-filled head with the toe of her shoe. "Well, he was kinda bitey..."

Xaivan Slingblade |

Was it Jim Marshall, Carl Eller or Alan Page? Roy Winston perhaps?
Yeah, it was a thing but not anymore. So, what was it doing in there? And where are these mongrelmen? We should keep moving.

![]() |

Pollux sniffs some stale bread and tosses it behind him. "Why keep such a beast in a pantry hole?" he asks no one in particular. "And why are you in such a hurry, cutpurse? Come, let us be scavengers together."
He tosses a random widget to Xaivan, almost playfully inviting the halfling to search the room with him.

Xaivan Slingblade |

Well, it is odd to keep such a beast in a pantry... maybe there is something to be found. Xaivan will indeed search the area while no enemies seem to be approaching. Maybe I'll find something to make all of this worthwhile, assuming there is anywhere left to spend it.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Jokum snorts. "It might not be a guardian at all. Perhaps just a poor lizard that wandered in there one day and got stuck. Come, we should proceed. Pollux...do you intend to try to speak with all the mongrelmen?"
As he waits for the diabolist's answer, Jokum heads over to the northern door and presses an ear to it, carefully listening.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

![]() |

"At this point we've already broken into their home, ransacked their kitchen, and shot their poor dog." he says, still searching the shelves. He looks back at the headless lizard with a sneer. "I believe we've forfeited our chance at diplomacy."
He then thinks back to what Karthak said. "Would someone mind checking the ones we've felled so far for religious icons?"

Xaivan Slingblade |

I had said I would check the bodies before we even opened the door but I do not think he mentioned anything of the sort.
Sure. I gave them a one-over but I wasn't looking for such things really. Unless they looked valuable. The rogue will go over their belongings again to see if he missed anything.

Xaivan Slingblade |

That's... distasteful. The halfling cant muster any further comment concerning the meat. Hey, this way doesn't seem to smell so foul, Xaivan says pointing east. Let's try this way.
Perception on door for traps and such things: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 Oooook. Once the group is ready to move on and is in position, Xaivan will open the door and prepare to move on.

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Jokum shrugs slightly. "Either way is acceptable to me. Let's be ready for a fight if it comes to that."
He nocks another arrow to his bow, and prepares to be the front line if anything should come flying through the door.

![]() |

Pollux walks out, having pulled a handkerchief over his mouth. He gives Karthak a reassuring pat on the back. "Its all yours." he says.
He then looks east. "I have no problems going this way... After you Jokum." he opens the door to let the point man through and then follows, sighing as his mind drifts back to what appears to be proof of cannibalism. "Perhaps they all need to be baptized in hellfire, and turned back from their wicked ways."

GM Striker |

Xavian opens the door to the next room, an arrow arcs just above his head, the fletching brushing his hair. The curse of the female mongrelman is audible as well as her astonishment at the size of the man that opened the door. Longbow: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 4 = 5

Seeing that the woman means business with her bow, Jokum will sling his own bow onto his back and draw his greatsword, stepping forward to engage with her.
"Get around her," he growls at Karthak as he hustles toward her.
Two move actions, one to put away the bow, one to step forward/draw sword. Should put me right in front of her and next to Karthak. Want to try to set up a flank (if whatever's about to happen doesn't screw with us)?

Move Tess to Pollux on her next round? You don't have to, but I hope it pulls her out of trouble at last for now."

Jokum of the Breakbones |

Jokum glances sharply over his shoulder when Pollux shouts. "Ce-Eshna!" he bellows in rage. Seeing that Ce-Eshna is down, he turns to Karthak and snaps, "Press this one." Dashing away from the wary mongrelwoman, he launches himself at the other cultist as Pollux's spear takes the first one. They harmed a pack-mate! Death! Shred them!
