Jokum sighs in relief as the second monster dies, then sheathes his sword and scoops up Tess's still-unconscious body, gently carrying her back into the light in the direction they came from.

"Brother Karthak, Ce-Eshna looks like she's breathing easily, but she needs your help too, if you can give it. Pollux, Xaivan--follow the sound of my voice, or follow the cave wall toward the direction we came from, and you'll get out of this darkness. It should melt in a few minutes."

Gently setting Tess down, Jokum squats next to her and lights a torch from his pack, illuminating all but the magically-created darkness. "There is some good news: those monsters, darkmantles as they're called, like to prey in tunnels closer to the surface world than the deeps. Those tend to have the most prey moving through them. So...we may be getting closer to our goal."

He frowns. "But I'm not sure how much we can push on right now...several of us have been seriously wounded. I don't want to risk any deaths."

Xaivan feels his way around the walls until he finally reaches the light once more. I don't care what they are or where they tend to live. We do not belong down here. We need to get out of here as fast as we can. Xaivan looks at the party's injuries. I don't see how we can move with everyone being so hurt but if we linger we'll die to the next thing that comes along.

The halfling starts pacing nervously. I vote we keep moving. Its harder to hit a moving target, so to speak. And the sooner we get out of here the sooner we can help those of us that need it.

Shaking her head Ce-Eshna comes up with a start, drawing her blade and casting around for an enemy. Her lips pursed in a thin grim line of suppressed rage. "Where is it, What happened, Who, why?" The effects of the magic not quite enough to fully heal her she falters and staggers a bit, seeing the corpses she sighs, "I'm sorry I failed you this time. I will do better." She moves over the the mantle next to her and begins trying to skin it. Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Jokum purses his lips, glancing down at the unconscious girl beside him. "Very well--I will search ahead. I'll see if there's anywhere we might rest. If not, we should not rule out going back to the temple...it's an easily defended spot, if nothing else."

As he passes Xaivan, he murmurs, "Keep an eye on the child," and proceeds through the darkness. To Ce-Eshna he adds, "You have no shame to bear--those monsters surprised all of us. You just happened to be closest."

Jokum's going to proceed very cautiously, taking 10 on Perception checks every 10-15 feet if he can. He'll turn around if he finds another large cavern or a fork in the tunnels. If he needs rolls, I'm making Perception and Survival below.

A small campfire and a well-used bedroll, along with a few utensils and tools, sits near another cave opening in the far wall of this cavern.
A dwarf sits be the fire, his knees pulled to his chest slowly rocking back and forth mumbling something to himself.

Jokum pulls up short when he sees the dwarf in the cavern ahead, throwing out an arm to catch Karthak before his companion can head into the chamber. Trying to stay in the shadows, the big man carefully takes in the room searching for something--anything--that might be more of a threat than the dwarf.

The dwarf flinches as Karthak yells. His eyes seem to stare past you as if lost in thought as he stumbles to his feet. He shrieks like a man possessed shouting "No I wont go! You cant take your blasted crusade with you to your graves!"

I had indicated that I would move up to the room after hearing we had trouble but I see nothing on the current map. I assume I'm now in the room?

Xaivan sees the wrestling match that has suddenly broken out. He yells out to Jokum, What do I do? What do I do? The halfling has his bow out and draws a blunt arrow and aims at the mad dwarf, intent on helping to subdue the dwarf.

"Pray your next arrow aims true for his heart." Pollux says to Xaivan, moving uneasily into position 15' away from the dwarf. He looks at Millorn, clearly disgusted.

"You stand here sick, dwarf. For you, a swift death will be its own reward." he then gives a rousing speech that I can't elaborate on because I'm at work right now.

Move to one above and to the left of Jokum, activating inspire courage. Actually, since he goes before me just throw me somewhere reasonable that's '15 feet away from him and activate inspire.


If he attacks and Pollux survives, have Pollux acrobatics to 15' away from him and activate inspire.


If Millorn attacks Pollux, don't forget his + 1 to attack and damage rolls from divine favor and + 1 to attack from Bless in addition to the bonuses from inspire courage after the AoO goes off... Come at me bro.

The ragged dwarf steps back again, getting closer to a smaller tunnel leading out of the chamber, he pulls a vial from his robe and raises his hand again, his voice is dark and nearly trance like as he casts another spell. Two missile of magical energy darts forth from his fingertip and strikes Xaivan in the chest.

Still at OwlCon but checking in. Looks like the halfling took a couple MMs to the chest so it doesn't matter much. This dwarf is rough.


Seeing him self clearly out numbered and feeling the sting of their blows Millorn leaps backwards from the fray. AoO Ce-Eshna: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 missing him. Karthak however manages to land his blow. Dropping the dwarf to the ground, bleeding. Pollux and Karthak see nothing suspicious as the move in around his unconscious form.

Millorn's spellbook is a ratty old and stained thing, singed on one corner and many of the pages near the end contain nothing but inkblots and smudges, however within the other pages you find the following spells:
