There's been a lot of interest shown in taking Cal's spot thus far. If you'd like, Brainiac, I'll start up a running tally of the finished applications tomorrow. Would you be alright with me sending an occasional PM with my thoughts on the applicants?

Gideon Ross |

Cool! I'll get started on that sometime this weekend.
As far as all of our loot thus far goes, are we all agreed on saving the +1 longsword and the glaive for Cal's replacement? Weyve has claimed the breastplate and that was the only other thing I could see maybe going to a new frontliner.
Per Weyve's suggestion, Gideon will take the ring of protection and I'll add a cloak of resistance to that, as well. Heck, the silver mirror too, as a gift for his lady friend.
Weyve, maybe you should take the saltspray ring? You don't even really have to use it for the concealment, you could just turn it on every few hours to make sure you never have to deal with the drying out part of being a gillman. Y'never know when you might not have access to water for a while, even if we are on an island. Keep all the healing potions too, of course.
Aside from those few things, unless Tobar wants something in particular, I say we liquidate the rest and divide the loot amongst the three of us and whoever our fourth party member is, just to give them some extra start-up capital. Is that agreeable?
Assuming it is, and that we get half value for selling stuff, here's what I've got so far:
Gideon - Ring of Protection, Cloak of Resistance, Ioun torch, silver mirror
Tobar - +1 Trident(?), Alchemist's Fires, Cloak of Resistance(?)
Weyve - Saltspray ring(?), +1 Breastplate
Assuming we keep all the healing potions, that leaves us with:
Buckler x 2 - 5 GP
Dagger x 6 - 6 GP
Shortspear x 2 - 2 GP
Defoliant x 2 - 30 GP
Star Candle Firework x 4 - 10 GP
Thunderstone - 15 GP
Meridian Belt - 500 GP
Shield Cloak - 500 GP
Trident x 3 - 22.5 GP
+1 Trident - 1,105 GP
Books - 5,000 GP
Gem - 1,000 GP
Wand of Mage Armor - 112.5 GP
Mwk Longsword - 157.5 GP
For a grand total of 8,319.5 GP. Those numbers look ok to everyone?
I did leave out the spellbook, just because I have no idea what it'd be worth, and if we did get rid of the saltspray ring or other questionable stuff, that would add to the overall total.

Weyve Murkwater |

I actually could pass on the breastplate if someone else needs it. It only improves my AC by +1.
IIRC, Calvin had:
+1 longsword
ring of protection +1
amulet of natural armor +1
ring of ferocious action
Is the new character going to get all of that?
GM: what are the odds that Mithral items will become available? How soon?
At this point I am saving up for a Mithral Agile Breastplate.
I am indifferent about the saltspray ring. It is not something I would ever spend money on buying. It would be awesome for a character who has other means of pinpointing enemies other than sight, but we don't have that.
So I am cool with selling it if you guys want.

DM Brainiac |

Missed your questions earlier, Weyve. The new character should get any of those items that you three don't want to put them on an even playing field with you.
Mithral items are available when you can afford them. You can assume the next supply ship will arrive with enough to craft the items you want.

DM Brainiac |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

A better illustration for Kulena. Just imagine her with long, waist-length braids.

Terana Murkwater |

Thank you very much for the selection - from reading the gameplay thread you all come across as a great bunch of roleplayers and I look forward to joining your game!
I'll sort out Terana's proper crunch tomorrow but a couple of quick questions...
1. GM: would you allow the Stand Still feat to work with a reach weapon? It's not allowed RAW but I can see an argument being made for it.
2. Whole group? What divine bond do you think would be most useful? I like the idea of a celestial Orca as a melee partner, but bonding the weapon is always useful and would open up the Tempered Champion archetype... any thoughts would be much appreciated!
Thank you again :D

Weyve Murkwater |

1. GM: would you allow the Stand Still feat to work with a reach weapon? It's not allowed RAW but I can see an argument being made for it.
You now what, I hadn't considered that it wouldn't work with a reach weapon. But the wording is this:
When a foe provokes an attack of opportunity due to moving through your adjacent squares,
My initial reaction is that the person who wrote it was a little fuzzy on the proper wording since it doesn't mention the term "threatened square" at all. And instead of leaving a threatened square it says "through" an adjacent square which implies that not only does the square in question have to be adjacent but that the enemy has to move into and then out of it for the feat to work. So if an enemy started adjacent to you and moved away you could not use Stand Still either.
However, I found this post that seems to indicate the limitation on reach is deliberate.
Mind you, it seems like you can make trip attacks at reach with an AoO without any feats at all.
2. Whole group? What divine bond do you think would be most useful? I like the idea of a celestial Orca as a melee partner, but bonding the weapon is always useful and would open up the Tempered Champion archetype... any thoughts would be much appreciated!
As I said in the recruitment, there have been a number of dungeons with narrow corridors so far. that doesn't mean there will in the future, but... probably.

DM Brainiac |

As Weyve said, Stand Still won't work with a reach weapon. But you can still try to trip! Of course, that won't help much underwater.
A mount will be useful in the later stages of the campaign, when more encounters take place underwater. I'd say you would be able to use it 50% of the time, but there will be times when it would be impractical or impossible to make use of it (such as the land-based encounters). A weapon bond is always useful. The choice is yours.

Weyve Murkwater |

On the subject of gear - could I keep the +1 trident that's being sold, and put the +1 longsword in instead? Terana's never used a sword really so the trident would be much more fitting (and the longsword might be worth a bit more?)
I don't see why not. If you also have the glaive then you have a slashing weapon too.

Gideon Ross |

I'm a little bit late to the party, but welcome to the game, Terana! I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we're happy to have you and we're eager to kick off book two!
Just to throw my two coppers in, I see no reason for you not to keep the trident as opposed to the longsword, especially since the glaive would already give you a slashing weapon.
I think the weapon bond is a good decision, too; as you pointed out, an aquatic companion is not going to be useful 100% of the time, whereas a bonded weapon would be.

Terana Murkwater |

On the subject of gear... I'm currently statted just with what I started with. What am I picking up from Cal? Don't want to spend your hard earned cash for you!
+1 Trident,
1 Seabourne Glaive,
+1 Ring of Prot
+1 Am of Nat Arm
all from Cal right? Is there anything else? I mentioned some armor in game because there was talk of buoyant full plate?

Weyve Murkwater |

That looks like a correct list to me. There was talk about buoyant full plate, but we never actually found any that I recall.
No, though we can probably afford some. We are selling a bunch of stuff.

Weyve Murkwater |

It'd be 4.5K to get it all together - that's a lot for me to ask.
Full plate - 1.5
+1 - 1
Buoyant - 2If we can afford the full plate that would be very helpful, enchanting it can wait. :)
Since the armor has to be masterwork, it's actually 4.65 kgp.
But in my mind, it's an expense that we ought to get out of the way. Once it's done you should be good for AC for several levels, and we can buy stuff for everyone else a bit later. There's not a lot of stuff that Weyve needs at this point.

Gideon Ross |

If that's the way we'd want to go, let's take the total of 8,319.5 gold and subtract out that armor for Terana. That would leave 3669.5 to the other three of us which divides up to 1233 GP, 1 SP, 6 CP each. Sound good to everybody? I'm totally cool with it, for the record. Our tank wouldn't be much of a tank without good armor.
Most of the stuff that Gideon would spend money on wouldn't be weapons or armor at this point anyway, so I'd be fine with just picking up some masterwork tools and some magic gear.

Weyve Murkwater |

There are a few other things we're selling off so I think we have more cash.
The saltspray ring.
The ring of ferocious action.

Terana Murkwater |

From what I gathered thats up to us, unless Leuwin gets a few more levels and picks up master-craftsman. If I wasn't a. trading out spellcasting, b. short of feats and c. almost empty on skill points... then I'd offer. Maybe the priests can do some of the low level crafts like CWI?
I'll put the armor into profile then. Your tank thanks you all!

Gideon Ross |

If we are getting rid of the two rings, their values are a total of 3,750 GP; that would add 1,250 GP to the spendable total for me, Tobar, and Weyve. That alright with you two guys?
Either way, I'll go through and list my purchases tomorrow. I've got a list based on the initial cash we had, but if that works, then I'll have to revise some things.

DM Brainiac |

The following NPCs have crafting feats you can take advantage of: Alba Divenvaar (Brew Potion), Eamon Caranth (Craft Wondrous Item), Kurvis Nurpico (Scribe Scroll). The next time Luetin Calewick gains a level, he'll take Master Craftsman.
Keep in mind that you'll still have to pay full price for items the NPCs make.

Weyve Murkwater |

Oh, okay. I thought we had someone who could do magic weapons and armor.

Terana Murkwater |

If that's the way we'd want to go, let's take the total of 8,319.5 gold and subtract out that armor for Terana. That would leave 3669.5 to the other three of us which divides up to 1233 GP, 1 SP, 6 CP each. Sound good to everybody? I'm totally cool with it, for the record. So total of 2,483gp, 1 sp, 6cp for you Tobar!

Weyve Murkwater |

Guys, I recently developed a loot spreadsheet for a game I am running and I plan on making a version for this game. The only issue is data entry so give me a bit of time.

Weyve Murkwater |

What is the scale of the Ancorato map?
Was the "Spindlelock Tower" where we found Eliza? I thought that was on the coast?
The Ulfen settlement seems to have the clearest location of the group. It should be easy to find.

DM Brainiac |

The map of Ancorato was part of a larger map of the region, so it didn't include the scale. I've edited it to add the scale.
Spindlelock Tower is where you found Eliza and Rayland. It's in the foothills of the northern mountain as indicated, not on the coast.
Seems like the vote is for Joskadlar! I will post in the gameplay thread soon.

Gideon Ross |

I've completely forgotten to actually update my profile with the new stuff for Gideon. I'll get that done tonight for sure. The only major thing was a masterwork composite (+2) shortbow; most of the rest of it probably wouldn't have an immediate impact on the adventuring.

Gideon Ross |

Got my purchase list done! Man I really need to get a Handy Haversack off the next ship. A masterwork backpack is only gonna offset the weight problem for so long.
Masterwork Artisan's Tools - 55 GP
Masterwork Thieves Tools - 100 GP
Masterwork Backpack - 50 GP
Ioun Torch - 75 GP
Darkwood Shortbow(+2 STR) - 545 GP
Silk Rope - 10 GP
Antitoxin x 2 - 100 GP
Climber's Kit - 80 GP
TOTAL: 1,015 GP
EDIT: Brand spankin' new and that fancy armor is paying off in a big way!
