DM Alexander Kilcoyne's Sargavan Saga

Game Master Alexander Kilcoyne

"What is this place? Puzzles in Azlant, more magic than you see in a year in Absalom. Wheels literally within wheels. Bound demons and wax golems? The expense must have been enormous. But why? To what end?"

How very kender-like. :-)

Your Humble Narrator

I think the Halfling only pre-requisite dates back to one of the characters that played with Gygax and Arneson (to my shame, I don't remember her name. A cleric I think, played by a girl?) who was always carrying equipment for every eventuality.

I dislike the Halfling only restriction though, its very arbitrary.

The races were much more pigeon-holed back in the day, but now that you can be an arcane archer without being an elf and a "stalwart" defender without being a dwarf, the racial restrictions left in the game are jarring in their specificity.

I could definitely envision a Well-Prepared dwarf. Don't they always have the right tool for every occasion?

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

I think most race restrictions need to go the way of the Dodo.

Hmmm now I am thinking a Dodo style feat chain.....hmmmm

Considering Jakob's backstory, he should be having some uncomfortable flashbacks right now. Is it just me, or if we hadn't burned the webs, wouldn't the swarm be taking energy damage now? :P

Your Humble Narrator

In their infinite wisdom, the builders of the structure may have made the swarm fire immune... or perhaps there was a delay of a single round between spark and swarm ;).

Oh yes, very much yes.

Your Humble Narrator

Hi all- off to a wedding tomorrow morning, will be out of action until monday most likely.

Not only have I never cast this spell, I've never actually seen it cast in-game, either.

Gust of wind:
School evocation [air]; Level druid 2, sorcerer/wizard 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range 60 ft.
Effect line-shaped gust of severe wind emanating out from you to the extreme of the range
Duration 1 round
Saving Throw Fortitude negates; Spell Resistance yes
This spell creates a severe blast of air (approximately 50 mph) that originates from you, affecting all creatures in its path. All flying creatures in this area take a –4 penalty on Fly skill checks. Tiny or smaller flying creatures must make a DC 25 Fly skill check or be blown back 2d6 × 10 feet and take 2d6 points of damage. Small or smaller flying creatures must make a DC 20 Fly skill check to move against the force of the wind.

A Tiny or smaller creature on the ground is knocked down and rolled 1d4 × 10 feet, taking 1d4 points of nonlethal damage per 10 feet.

Small creatures are knocked prone by the force of the wind.

Medium or smaller creatures are unable to move forward against the force of the wind unless they succeed at a DC 15 Strength check.

Large or larger creatures may move normally within a gust of wind effect.

This spell can't move a creature beyond the limit of it's range.

Any creature, regardless of size, takes a –4 penalty on ranged attacks and Perception checks in the area of a gust of wind.

The force of the gust automatically extinguishes candles, torches, and similar unprotected flames. It causes protected flames, such as those in lanterns, to dance wildly and has a 50% chance to extinguish those lights.

In addition to the effects noted, a gust of wind can do anything that a sudden blast of wind would be expected to do. It can create a stinging spray of sand or dust, fan a large fire, overturn delicate awnings or hangings, heel over a small boat, and blow gases or vapors to the edge of its range.

Gust of wind can be made permanent with a permanency spell.

Since it doesn't say "Fortitude partial," I presume all the listed effects can be avoided by making a Fort save, including the -4 to ranged attacks and Perception checks? What about extinguishing the torch? Usually, an attended object gets a saving throw. Tiny flying creatures get first a save and then a Fly check to avoid being blown back and taking damage? Seems a bit unfair that they get two chances to negate the spell.

I will be out of town for the next week or so for some much much needed vacation, so internet access will be a bit sketchy. I will not be able to post at all during this weekend, but I should have some access to a computer from Monday onward. Please feel free to DMPC Kieran if necessary.

I see you posting in Crimson Throne, AK. You've updated Kingmaker and Slumbering Tsar since you have us, so it's our turn whenever you get back at it. ;P

Your Humble Narrator

Sorry for the snail pace. My dissertation is due on the 17th of September and my word count is still close to 0... Out of 15,000. Within the next week i'll be announcing a 2-3 week hiatus from the games I DM, in order to clear the time I need to finish it. Its the final step of my MSc so pacing should be pretty good after that for some time :).

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Thanks for the word AK and good luck with the word count.

Your Humble Narrator

Hi all. Please consider me officially on hiatus until the 18th/19th of September in order to do my 15,000 word dissertation...

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

Good luck! Remember to add "It was as if an occult hand had…" somewhere in the 15K.

Male Human (Ijo) Monk 4 (Zen Archer)

and that "The Aboliths did it"*.....wait! no! reserve that. Make sure the Aboliths had nothing to do with it.

*Good way to get round-filed with a Paizo submission

How's the dissertation going, AK?

He's done, just working through his threads in alphabetical order as of earlier today. Hasn't gotten to us yet. :P

I was actually curious how the dissertation writing went, too. Even if I am looking forward to getting back to spelunking into the Pyramid of Doom.

Sovereign Court

I think its ok. Not my best work.

I'm actually delayed because my Maptools won't let me add new tokens to any of my maps and when I reported this at their forums they patronisingly asked me if I was sure I was left clicking upon the token...

Sovereign Court

Working on Sargava Saga now. Will likely be in a few hours, after lunch and after giving me some time with Maptools :). Fixed now, I just need to finalise some details in my pyramid of doom.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! *wiggles fingers*

Tebati is truly wise. ;>

Male Human

I will be away from a computer for the next couple of days or three. Please DMPC Kieran as needed.

Bump!

Your Humble Narrator

To be completely honest i've been feeling pretty low this week and have completely lacked the motivation to update, despite having an abundance of time.

I'll try to keep momentum up once more. Sorry about that.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling the best, AK. I was starting to get worried something had happened to you! I think we lost a player in another one of my PbPs; he never came back from a vacation that was supposed to end two weeks ago. It sucks not knowing what's happened to people!

Your Humble Narrator

No issues on that front. My partner has strict instructions to inform my PbP's if something untoward should befall me. On my way to my hometown today, will update from there.

Male Human Haunted Nature Oracle 4 (Ac 20 Cmd 20 Will+4 Ref+2 Fort+4)

I'm with you. Allergy season here on the Salish sea. Pollen count down but spore counts are through the roof. Sigh....

Hmmm I should make sure someone has my online id's so they can alert folks should something untoward occur.

Your Humble Narrator

My housemate tripped over a cable and broke our router; out of action for a few days. Will try to post via Ipad if urgent.

Female Elf Wizard (Manipulator) 15/Archmage 7 Portrait

Sadness. :<

Your Humble Narrator

We have a new router as of today. Will be updating this evening.

Male Human

Happiness. :-)

Your Humble Narrator

Sadness. My laptop seems broken too. I've ordered new one. I think the hard drive is salvageable.

Good grief, AK. xD

Male Human (Ijo) Monk 4 (Zen Archer)

Good luck with that! Fingers crossed.

Your Humble Narrator

Ok back in action fully now, for as long as this current laptop lasts. New one comes in a few days. I also got lots of work done on the map so i'm quite far prepped ahead now; sorry for the (several) slowdowns; i'm really looking forward to getting into the meat of this game so no one is more disappointed in me than myself. Lets get to it!

Sovereign Court

Move to new PC successful. Need to reinstall Maptools but everything else operational.

Your Humble Narrator

There is far too little decent information on the Azlant.

Your Humble Narrator

Sorry gang between jobseeking and my 4 year anniversary with Alina I didn't find the time to update today. I'm on it first thing tomorrow morning.

Since I don't know if we're aiming for a set update schedule right now, I wasn't really expecting an update Tuesday. Thank you for keeping us in the loop, though!

Your Humble Narrator

I'm trying to update daily but we always seem to have guests and/or trips to other cities at the moment! Hard to claim my desk back for me sometimes. Is the group gathering for Qhude opening door or is he going to continue being the guinea pig? ;)

I play Ansha too cautiously sometimes. I have to remind myself that she's a lot more impulsive.

"You must gather your party before venturing forth."

Hah! I hadn't realized we were in Baldur's Gate III: Pathfinder Edition.

That would be awesome. Who's going to be the party member who gets stuck behind a counter and takes twenty minutes to find the door?

Btw, AK, I presume these things are speaking Azlanti and no one but Qhude can understand them?

I really miss BG2 and Temple of Elemental Evil-style PC games.

Your Humble Narrator

No; you can all understand them. Should have made it clear sorry.

Ooooo can I get a miniature giant space hamster for a bonded mount?

1 person marked this as a favorite.
