Having recently been passed over for playing in the Curse of the Crimson Throne AP it got me itching to run this AP using my conversions (Whiterose's Curse of the Crimson Throne conversion (3.5 > Pathfinder)) for it so I’ve decided to start up another campaign. To that end I’m looking for four players (a 5th spot has already been reserved) to join me in the Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path.
Recruitment will end March 12th @ 6pm. CST.
The Rules:
• Races: All standard races from the Pathfinder Core Rulebook will be allowed. Any other PC race will be considered on a case by case basis.
• Classes: All classes from any Paizo publication will be allowed as well as any archetype for those classes. Any 3PP material you wish to use will have to be approved by me prior to acceptance.
• Alignment: Characters can be of any Good or Neutral alignment. No evil alignments will be allowed.
• Abilities: Characters will be based on the High Fantasy (20 point) buy, found in the PFRPG Core Rulebook on page 16. No ability can be raised higher than 18 (prior to racial modifiers). Only one ability may be lowered below 10 and that ability cannot be lowered below 8 (prior to racial modifiers).
• Feats: Any feat from any Paizo publication will be acceptable. Any 3PP material you wish to use will have to be approved by me prior to acceptance.
• Traits: Character's will start with two traits, one of which MUST be from either the Crimson Throne’s Player's Guide or from the Varisia, Birthplace of Legends player companion.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level. Thereafter characters will have the option to roll for their hit points or to accept the average for their class (rounded down on even levels, rounded up on odd) whichever is greater.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with Maximum starting gold for their base class.
If you have any questions, feel free to post them here or PM me and I'll answer them as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your interest.

@Game Master Scotty - As long as you can keep Player Knowledge and Character Knowledge separate I have no problem with people who own the AP or who have played/GM'ed it in the past.
@Dragoncat - Sorry, no drawbacks.
@Jesse Heinig - I'll let those selected decide if they want to use background skills or not. Right now build your character as if we are not using them.
@rdknight - some kind of arcane caster. The player hasn't decided just yet.

Excellent!
I will have a character prepared for submission in the next day or so.
I hope you will allow background skills, they are nice way to round out characters.

VERY INTERESTED! I have a character almost complete for it: Pellius Zenderholm, a human of mixed Chelaxian and Shoanti parentage and paladin of Sarenrae, planning on taking levels of Oracle to build to the Holy Vindicator prestige class! Just need to do a few tweaks.
How do you feel about the Background Skill system from Pathfinder UNCHAINED!?

Dragoncat |

Now that I think about it, the character concept I have in mind wouldn't fit well with a Sacred Fist. I think I'm going to submit a rogue--with a twist!
I'm thinking of an unchained Eldritch Scoundrel rogue who was expelled from the Acadamae after being framed for murder.
I swear this is the last time I'm going to edit this post.

Aleziella Libuyaza |

I'll be submitting Aleziella, hopefully Tyrek will post later today. I'll have to change her stats around to fit your requirements. I'll also change over to a regular summoner rather than unchained if that's ok? The background etc should be mostly complete though and the sheets won't change massively either. Some feedback on what you think of her fluff would be kinda nice.
A master summoner should work just fine with another arcane caster in the party, though maybe not if the player will focus on summoning as well. Would be nice to know what the preselected person is going for so we can avoid overlap.

stormcrow27 |

I would be interested, but I have three series of questions.
1. PC race-Are planetouched such as aasimars, fetchlings, tieflings, etc allowed, and do you allow the feat or background that allows you to select specific parental backgrounds for the planetouched, ie angel or devil spawn? Since it is in Korvosa, the link to Cheliax and the devil spawn from the Acadame is quite strong.
2. For 3rd party material, will you allow Dreamscarred Press's psionics and/or their conversions for the older 3.5 Tome of Battle and Incarnum systems? (called Path of War and Akashic Mysteries respectively) Or 3.5's binder from the Tome of Magic, or the occultist from Radiance House? I have access to Occult Adventures and the material in question.
3. Is it possible to have Scarzni or other faction ties?

Vrog Skyreaver |

Assuming you're still taking applications, Would you allow me to app with a vigilante (of the playtest fame/infamy)? I know that this adventure path is geared towards staying in the same city, and I've been wanting to play a vigilante for a while.
for theme, think the count of monte cristo meets batman.

Aleziella Libuyaza |

I mostly updated Aleziella to match your specifications. However there is a slight problem. She obviously had an unhappy childhood, but neither religious nor tortured fit completely (though they both actually fit somewhat). Could I take an alternate version of that trait instead:
I understand it if you don't want to change stuff like this, but I really like my background and I'm not sure changing it to more closely fit with one of the traits would be for the better.

![]() |

This is Tyrek, the other half of Aleziella's pairing :)
In terms of mechanics he will be aiming for Enlightened Paladin 4/Sorceror 1 into Dragon Disciple. He'll be heavy combat with an assortment of useful spells (buffs, battlefield control, not too much save/suck). Definitely more of a front line fighter than a serious spellcaster.

Appearance
Kayleigh is a pretty if not striking young woman with pale skin and short blonde hair. She has a kindness that is reflected in her eyes and her face projects an element of naivety.
Personality
Kayleigh’s a friendly person, if not particularly outgoing with strangers. Once someone’s earned her loyalty, however, she’s a friend for life. Kayleigh’s something of a bleeding heart, often caring more for the poor and downtrodden than she does for herself. She currently dwells in a small apartment in the Bridgefront area of Old Korvosa, spending much of her time ministering to the poor and downtrodden.
Kayleigh’s Backstory
It was two years after Kayleigh’s parents had perished in a fire. She’d been taken in by a friend and neighbor of her mother’s, an unmarried woman poor in looks but rich in kindness. One day that winter, her new guardian didn’t wake up one cold morning, and Kayleigh was alone in the world. She was taken in by a man named Ghaedren Lamm. This mean tyrant had a pack of kidnapped and ‘rescued’ orphans who worked for him in exchange for meager food rations and a roof over their heads at night. Ghaedren was a lowly crime lord, the children his pickpockets and thieves.
Well, Kayleigh’d been an awkward, somewhat uncoordinated child at the time. She was a terrible pickpocket, a hopeless thief or lookout, and an even worse liar. She was destined for a short-lived apprenticeship under the merciless Lamm, but things escalated when the girl found a wondrous silver amulet attached to a fine silver chain wedged in a crack between the street and a damaged curbstone. She recognized the piece of jewelry to be a holy symbol of some kind: The pendant featured a delicate rose growing out of a crack in a cobblestoned street. Kayleigh traveled all the way to the Pantheon of Many in South Shore to learn more about the holy symbol and the faith it represented, and to return it to the priest or priestess who’d lost it, if she must.
Her inquiries were met with blank stares from many priests at the multidenominational shrine, but when she showed the silver rose to the priest of the god Iomedae, he recognized it as the holy symbol of the goddess Milani. He told the waif what he knew of Milani’s faith before asking where her parents were. Kayleigh stammered something unintelligible and was preparing to flee when the priest smiled and said, “You keep that necklace, little girl. May it protect you and give you courage….”
…and that was all the priest managed to say before Kayleigh fled, running most of the way back to Midland and Lamm’s headquarters. Certain the cruel man would steal her treasure if she brought it into his hideout, Kayleigh held the holy symbol in her hand, thinking hard of a safe place where she could stash it. That’s when Ghaedren Lamm’s bony fingers closed hard on her shoulder.
The crime lord broke the holy symbol before the girl’s eyes before beating her to within an inch of her life and tossing her body in an alley just off Harborview Boulevard. Kayleigh would have died if the Iomedaean priest she’d met hadn’t decided to follow the obvious orphan street urchin when she fled north. The girl had lost him shortly after entering Midland, but luckily he’d found her again before she’d breathed her last. The cleric took the child back to the Pantheon of Many, healed her wounds, and offered her a job cleaning the temple and helping out with other odd jobs and errands. Kayleigh remained in South Shore at the temple for roughly a third of her life, until Milani heard her fervent prayers and granted her the powers of a Merciful Healer. Kayleigh then moved to Bridgefront in Old Korvosa—one of the city’s poorest neighborhoods—to better care for Korvosa’s most needy: the sick, poor, and underprivileged.

@Anya it's a trait signature moves. Most GMs don't allow it. So you risk not getting picked for the game if you choose it. There is also rich parents. Another trait GMs don't allow. In my table top games I only allow one character to have one of those traits. As they can unbalance the game if abused,

![]() |

Tyrek has been tweaked to match specs - quick question GM. Would you allow something similar to Sin Seer in order for me to get Detect Evil back as well as Sense Perfection? Tyrek is more of a classic paladin than his mentor would have wanted!
Also took the trait Missing Child (Son or Daughter) rather than sibling because Tyrek does feel that he was 'charged with protecting' Aleziella and failed. Hope that's ok :)

Bonus Feat: Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.
Skilled: Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.
Ranger 1
Weapon and Armor Proficiency
A ranger is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with light armor, medium armor, and shields (except tower shields).
Favored Enemy (Ex)
Humanoid (Human)
At 1st level, a ranger selects a creature type from the ranger favored enemies table. He gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of his selected type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. A ranger may make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures.
At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger may select an additional favored enemy. In addition, at each such interval, the bonus against any one favored enemy (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by +2.
If the ranger chooses humanoids or outsiders as a favored enemy, he must also choose an associated subtype, as indicated on the table below. (Note that there are other types of humanoid to choose from—those called out specifically on the table below are merely the most common.) If a specific creature falls into more than one category of favored enemy, the ranger's bonuses do not stack; he simply uses whichever bonus is higher.
Track (Ex)
A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow tracks.
Wild Empathy (Ex)
A ranger can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person (see Using Skills). The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.
To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.
The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a –4 penalty on the check.
--------------------
Backstory
--------------------
Age: 23
Hair: Auburn
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 120 lbs.
Backstory: Ceril was born in the city of Korvoso, and was raised follow the rules and keep his nose clean. He worked hard, studied hard, and was well on his way to the elite Sable Company. It was his dream to ride with one of those magnificent beasts, the proud gryphons.
But now, because of Gaedran Lamm, he'd probably never get the chance. An accusation of murder doesn't leave you untarnished.
It was a case of being in the wrong place, at the wrong time, but spending a week in custody was enough to ward of Sable Company's recruiters as his folks ran around collecting bail money. Even now, with his name clear, his blemished reputation is smeared all over the dirty boot of the real murderer, Gaedan Lamm.
And Ceril is going to get some payback, even if he has to track him past the city limits.
Personality: Ceril is undergoing a personal crisis. Before his life was sent spiraling, he actually was a very law focused citizen. But now, a personal vendetta has driven him to question if the law's of his home are truly all they were built up to be.
Often, you'll find him looking skyward, still a shred of hope that one day he'll be flying with a bestial friend someday.
Ceril is a Ranger that focuses primarily on Ranged attacks and a variety of trick arrows for special circumstances. While normally very lawful, a recent event (his framing for a murder) has caused him an internal conflict of deciding if staying true to the law is really worth it. He is planning (and I am hoping) to get a gryphon animal companion at some point so he can protect his comrades from the sky.
A question as well. Could I modify the Framed "Dropout" trait to adjust another skill other than spell craft as that's very spell caster specifc. I don't mind keeping it as it works, but just wondering.

GM Wulfson |

@Sara Ran - Recruitment will remain open until Saturday, March 12th @ 6:00 pm (CST)
@stormcrow27 - 1 Yes, the plane-touched races are acceptable.
2 No, no Psionics. You may, however, use Paizo's Psychic Magic from Occult Adventures.
3 While your character can claim ties to the various PFS faction you won't gain any special advantage from doing so.
@Vrog Skyreaver - Since the Vigilante is still in playtesting I'm not going to allow it.
@ Orannis - Yes, I'll allow the Variant Multiclassing system.with the caveat that you cannot take levels in your secondary class.
@Tyrek Archaos - While I can see the similarities for Sin Seer, since Sin Seer only works with Detect Undead I'm going to disallow it or any other variant thereof.
@Ceril Surefoot - I don't mind people reskinning the fluff of a trait to fit their background but I have to draw the line at changing the crunch aspect of the trait.

Aleziella Libuyaza |

I mostly updated Aleziella to match your specifications. However there is a slight problem. She obviously had an unhappy childhood, but neither religious nor tortured fit completely (though they both actually fit somewhat). Could I take an alternate version of that trait instead, something like:
Unhappy Childhood: Devil Binder::In order to escape from Lamm's clutches, you convinced a Devil to help you. While the pact might come back to haunt you, that doesn't change your skills of persuation. You gain a +1 trait bonus on diplomacy checks and diplomacy is always a class skill for you.I understand it if you don't want to change stuff like this, but I really like my background and I'm not sure changing it to more closely fit with one of the traits would be for the better. Mechanically the trait is a bit weaker than Missing Child: (Sibling).
@GM Wulfson: Did you miss my question about the trait?

![]() |

I think I'm going to withdraw from this. Best of luck to the rest of the applicants, though!
Oh hell, I just realized I floated exactly the same character concept as you! That was entirely unintentional, result of me not paying close enough attention, I am sorry.. I will gladly drop that for something else. I hope it wasn't a factor in your decision to drop from the running. :(
