The Giltmen touch the menacing zombie, and a bright flash causes the undead to recoil. Nicolae moves up the downed sorcerer and fends off the zombie, though he fails to his the shambling piece of unlife.

Leb pulls out a vial and drains it in one gulp. Then, he says, "Giltman, you might want to leave a little space between yourself and these things."

Giltman takes a hit... 2 is copy: 1d2 ⇒ 1 and it hits him, not his copy.
He Swiftly heals himself (using another Fervor as a Swift action, this time on himself.) Fervor: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Then he smacks the zombie that he hit with his fervor.
light hammer: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 = 21 (+1 from bless)
damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
He will then take a five-foot step backward, free action to drop his light hammer, and then finally use a move action to pull out his wand of cure light wounds readying it to touch the zombies next round.
Leb Unin |
Leb waits until the Giltmen step away from the creatures, and then he leans around the corner to lob a bomb at the one in the center.

@Leb: Don't you also get splash damage on the other zombies with that? And I thought the reflex save was only for the splash, not the direct hit on the one you targeted?
DM Kludde |
That's what I did: the direct hit did not get a save, the RFX was for the one zombie next to it (the other was already dead). Direct hit took 5 damage, splash saved and took 2
Leb Unin |
Giltman's right. That's what I get for posting when I'm in a hurry. So 5 damage to the one I hit, and 4 damage (w/DC 13 Reflex save for half) to the other two.
DM Kludde |
Nicolae hack with fervour at the zombie. His first swipe goes wide, but the second one buries deep into the putrid flesh, and brings the zombie within an inch of its end.

Leb attempts to squeeze around Giltman, even though this leaves him vulnerable to the zombie for a moment. He then lobs a bomb, taking care to aim away from his companions.

Nicolae takes another hack at the zombie, and it staggers back just enough to be hit by the blast of Leb's bomb. The putrid flesh is ripped apart in a nasty spray on decay and rot.
Combat over. Mordack, Giltman, Nicolae, please all roll a fort save (DC 11)
There's an old backpack sitting in the corner of this room, that holds a potion, some rotten rations and a piece of paper, a faded note that has a notice of employment, telling all those interested to meet at 'The Rangers Lament'
Leb Unin |
Leb walks over to the backpack and grabs the potion. He holds it in his hands, attempting to understand its magic.
Craft (alchemy): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
DM Kludde |
Leb quickly identifies the common potion as one of 'cure moderate wounds'
Leb Unin |
"Hey, guys, we should heal our buddy Mordack over there. Does anybody want to take care of that, or should we use this nifty healing potion I found? Might be overkill, though. This one is more powerful than the ones I can make for myself."
Giltman Pennywhistle |
"Save the potion for dire straits, my friend. I will heal him."
Giltman walks over to Mordack and hits him several times with his cure light wounds wand.

Ranger's Lament, where have I heard this name before?..
Nicolae scratches his beard thinking. By the looks of it this guys were adventurers. They did not come to seek the flame, they were hired to come here. For what? And by whom?
Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
DM Kludde |
Nicolae remembers the 'Ranger's Lament'. It's an establishment in Timrad, the capital of Nimrathas, of which Kassen is a border town. Whatever the case, these zombies (that is, the men they used to be) were not from here.
It seems Giltman has been badly exposed to the putrid cloud.

There's a door to the south.

A shallow reflecting pool divides this long chamber, running from one end to the other. The water looks cloudy and stagnant. What must have once been marvelous murals covering both walls are now scorched and ruined, the original subject lost in the destruction.

Nicolae finds no trap on the southern door, and moves into the southern room.
From the spoiler:
A shallow reflecting pool divides this long chamber, running from one end to the other. The water looks cloudy and stagnant. What must have once been marvelous murals covering both walls are now scorched and ruined, the original subject lost in the destruction.
There's a gate to the south. However, upon inspecting the room, he cannot help but catch a glimpse of himself in the reflecting pool. He sees a horrid, rotting version of himself that slowly turns to murder the others in the room.
Can I have a will save?
DM Kludde |
Nicolae is overcome by pure fright, and wants to get away from the vision as fast as he can.

Back at the crossroads, the corridor to the east slopes downward slightly, and water has settled in. The passage comes at a juncture, with two corridors, one to the north and one to the south, splitting off.

Mordack follows, but he closes his eyes and moves along the walls so he doesn't fall in the water. and he doesn't want to look in the water, so his eyes are closed.
