Looks like we've got 3, but just for flavor. Sorry I'm late to the game

Iagon follows along behind the group, stunned at their absolute mastery of the wilderness and finding their way through it. He watches from near the back, following the path and trying to pick up on the same signs as the others. Alas, he more often than not finds his mind completely wandering to some nearby plant, and he often strays off of the path.

Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

You guys got it, I'll have a post up later today. What that rule means is, say your PC tries with Survival and fails the DC. You need one more success to pass as a group, so you can try again, but you can't use Survival again. Someone else can try Survival, but you have to come up with another skill to use. It wasn't necessary this time around, as the first 3 checks were successes. We'll play with this more later.

My ruling on using Eir in the Skill Challenge is that she can provide an Aid Another check for Kytes. Kytes rolled high enough on this one that it didn’t matter, but for next time...

Attai, Turante, Kytes, and Eir work together synergetically, locating the bog amid the dense forest in seemingly no time at all. Iagon, Liamae, Ashilia, and the donkey follow behind, sometimes offering insights moments after the others, but mostly getting lost in wonder.

Following the lay of the land, the group treads downhill through the forest undergrowth. The soil beneath their feet grows damp, then sodden, then mucky. Lush ferns give way to low palms. The moss hanging from the dark oaks grows dense and low. Purple irises sprout triumphantly from the black mud.

Soon, the group stands at the muddy edge of a forest bog. The trees thin out, and a standing body of water, murky and stagnant, impedes the way. Beyond an arrow’s flight through the trees is a low, rocky hill, rising above the still water in the center of the bog.

Perceptions:

Attai: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Iagon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Kytes: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Liamae: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Túrante: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Eir: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

GM Screen:

Standing there, surveying the scene, Kytes feels a sensation coming from Eir. The hawk lifts her wings and lowers her head, eyes fixed on a point out in the bog.

"I think Eir spies something out there in the bog. I can't see it, but seems like she can. Don't know what it is, but I'm guessing it ain't friendly. Prepare accordingly."

He draws his longsword and moves to the front of the group. He gulps a bit not exactly sure how moving through this brackish water is going to go in heavy armor but stands resolute nonetheless.

"She doesn't indicate that yet, just a general feeling. How deep is this bog, do you suppose? My armor makes me not a great swimmer, if it should suddenly deepen."

Kytes, sword and shield in hand, takes a tentative step ahead, trying out the firmness of footing before placing all his weight ahead.

Any kind of check to help with knowing about depth or footing here?

campaign info | maps

The ground approaching the water is soft and muddy, and Kytes finds as soon as he steps into the bog, his boot sinks into the soft black mud up to his ankle. He can see the water appears to be at least a foot deep to about ten feet out, but the murkiness makes it hard to perceive past that. He realizes the thick mud at the bottom of the bog is going to make tactical movement difficult. Making it to the island from this approach will be difficult and slow going, but not impossible. And that doesn’t factor in whatever danger Eir caught a glimpse of.

As Kytes tentatively wades into the bog, a mist begins to rise from the water several yards out, gradually obscuring sight of the island.

DC 16 Spellcraft:
This is not natural fog, but the effects of an Obscuring Mist spell.

”My friends, can we not wait out the sorcery? Surely it cannot last forever, and entering water we cannot see down into while wreathed in fog we cannot see through seems...suicidal?” Attai’s voice is faint and a little nervous.

GM - can Attai’s wind ability (“Once per day you can channel this wind into a single gust, making a bullrush or trip combat maneuver attempt against one creature within 30 feet“) be used to make a 30’ channel of clear air, however temporarily?

At Attai's words, Kytes stops tromping through the mud. He is loathe to move forward anyway, so if his partner has some way to clear the confounding mist, so much the better.

Liamae holds her bow at the ready as Attai clears the fog.

campaign info | maps

Attai needs to wade into the black water ahead of Turante and Kytes to effectively reach the cloud of mist. He finds that the water depth remains level, to the top of his shins, and the mud is especially thick. He trudges about 30 feet out and unleashes a gust of wind into the mist. The blast cuts a tunnel through the vapor, but doesn’t have the velocity to carry all the way through. The mist begins to cave in on itself and it seems to be dissipating slowly. From what I can extrapolate from certain spell descriptions and Attai’s ability, it should take 2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 rounds for the mist to clear.

GM Screen:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
1d4 ⇒ 4

Perceptions:

Attai: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Túrante: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Eir: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28

While Attai tries to clear the mist, Eir cocks her head to and fro, having lost sight of whatever she was tracking. Then, with a crackling and popping sound, in the air around Turante and Kytes, a swarm of bats suddenly appears, summoned out of seemingly nowhere.

Ashilia, Iagon, and Liamae are still standing ashore. Turante and Kytes are about 10 feet from shore amid a swarm of bats. Attai is another 20 feet out, at the edge of the mist. The bog-water is difficult terrain. I’m still working out the map. Will post with it soon.

At the edge of the mist cloud stands a dark oak, dead, branches bare but covered in hanging moss, roots submerged in the standing water. A sudden flickering of motion appears next to the tree. Iagon, fully unfamiliar with not being able to see, is hesitant to do anything. Memories of his power hitting the wrong people make him pause, and instead bolster his own defenses. After all, he has no idea if someone is about to attack him.

Stand still, use Flesh of wood and accept another point of burn to make it a +2

Kytes accepts the goodberries from the druid and serves one to Eir first, stopping her bleed. If time permits, and there are enough, he consumes one of his own.

I assume that is move action to feed Eir, and Standard action to feed self?

However you want to delineate the action economy, sounds like a fair spend of your turn Kytes.

1 is a miss: 1d5 ⇒ 4
Liamae’s arrow disappears into the clearing mist. Attai hears and feels his Morningstar connect, as the cloud of mist begins to dissipate. Now he stands face to face with his current foe, who wields spear and shield against the Sylph.

Kytes and Turante feel the curative effects of the little berries Ashilia produce, their wounds becoming less bothersome now. Ashilia, too, eats a berry, leaving one more left for Liamae. He trudges through the muddy water to bring it to her.

Liamae: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Túrante: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Eir: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

The elf Druid warns Attai once again, “Listen to me while you still can. This is a place of danger. It’s too late for me now.” He then thrusts forward in attack.
Spear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
