As Crystal gazes out the window, she notices some figures having dinner across the street. For a moment, she makes eye contact with a woman who looks strikingly similar to the sorceress from the fight in the streets. However, the woman quickly pulls her hood down over her eyes and goes back to her meal.
Victor Ravenport |
Victor, despite of being the curious sort, simply ignores the hooded figure, seeing as law enforcement and bothering the heroes isn't his task. Instead he goes back to the game of chess he is playing with Fate's little board of heroes and villains.
Marcello Wintrish |
Just going with it being in the Alley here... Sry if I have misunderstood, but here goes...
Moving towards the cloaked figure, Marcello moves closer to it to get a better look.
Grabbing his sword hilt he moves slowly and tries to be, if possible, less intimidating.
Marcello Wintrish |
Does the cloaked figure react to Marcello's advance?

Marcello Wintrish |
If successful, he would move towards it while making a demand "Show yourself! Captain of the Keep demands it!"
If less successful he would instead stay at the entrance and wait.

Having satisfied his curiosity for now, he moves back to his original spot and returns to his impression of a statue.

Victor, having fetched a bucket of water and a suiting rag, begins cleaning and cleansing his bones systematically. He washes away the small pieces of lingering flesh and dips his exposed ripcage and cranium with sweetly fragranted perfumes instead. And as he does so, he leans back in his throne, in all of his skeletal glory, muttering a satisfied:
"Ah, this is the good life."
Marcello Wintrish |
"Who goes there?" Demanding to know, Marcello tightened his grip on the weapon, ready to cut deep. "Come out in the open or I will cut you down before you get to draw a weapon!"
Ready a charge if weapons are drawn or magic is being casted... Is that possible? Of course if they come out in the open, no reason to run into them... Yet.
Crystal Shalhoume |
After informing the others of delivering the invitation for dinner, Crystal immediately goes to the throne room. Sitting in the larger throne (if no one currently rests there), she takes command of a large force of the sentinels. She takes a moment to scan through their collective views, until she finds the largest place of worship in The City.
She then commands the sentinels to clear out the temple, staying on the throne to oversee the work. Any of the priests who leave peaceably are spared, but those who resist in any way are immediately set upon with fire.
DM-Kal |
Minor retcon here.
Crystal considers her plans to purify the local temple to Abadar as she walks the dark, mostly empty streets and alleys back towards the Keep. Marcello walks beside, ever vigilant against whatever gutter thugs may appear to perpetrate good or misplaced evil.
Although you see nothing, suddenly Marcello is struck by a sudden feeling of painful withering. Initiative!

Making the manly equivalent of a suffering raise of voice, some might call it a yelp of pain, Marcello's helmet keep's his face well hidden.
*Did those eastwards attack me first?* Deciding not to let it pass, Marcello stops dead in his tracks as he shouts a warning to Crystal. He went with a simple one... "AMBUSH!"
oh, well at least it isn't a 1

Marcello Wintrish |
Turning around to get an eye on his attacker, he pulls out his word, readying himself to charge at someone. His entire body hurt from the bombardment of magic...
Can I see whoever shot the magic at me?
Crystal Shalhoume |
She casts a quick enchantment, slapping Marcello on the back at the spell's end. The burly warrior vanishes from view, at this point. Kicking off her heels, the priestess moves as quickly as she can down the street, hopefully away from whatever was attacking them.
Cast invisibility on Marcello, move 30 ft.
Marcello Wintrish |
For good action, Marcello makes a last sweep, trying to see anything.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Whatever he might see, wouldn't be enough for him to stay and fight. Running to fight another day... As something more powerful.
Perception check, then running 20 ft. after Crystal.
Crystal Shalhoume |
As Crystal flees, she finds herself entangled in suddenly-appearing magical webbing. She panics, looking behind her frightfully as she struggles to free herself, only succeeding in getting the web more coverage on her person.
My rolls in this game are abysmal...by far my worst game, roll-wise. The Law of Big Numbers states that my luck has to turn around at some point, right?
Are we up?
Crystal Shalhoume |
Concentration: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Tried to use Firebolt...another 1 in the books!
Marcello Wintrish |
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Suddenly feeling the sheer power grapping hold of him and stopping him in his tracks, Marcello starts to ponder in a more... Explosive train of thought.
"Crystal, How is your relationship with fire?" The voice seemed to come from somewhere behind her.
Is it also a concentration check to use supernatural abilities? And the law is more like "After-the-thread-has-shown-you-who-is-boss-it-will-prolong-your-misery" Also known as "ATTHSYWIBIWPYM", if you are a fan of shortening it down.
Marcello Wintrish |
Breathing heavily, Marcello tries to relax as the fire is building up. He could barely move his arms more than an inch, and he hadn't done this without the swing of his sword, but they had to keep going.
"I'll clear a way, just keep running through the fire!" Not waiting to hear her consent, Marcello deemed her without any injuries, so this shouldn't really be a problem for her to move through... He hoped.
Feeling the fire come to life in him, moving like it's own, he shouted out something. FOr those listening, it as no fancy arcane mumbling or praise to the One God. What it was, was simply a primal warcry, something to shout for no other reason to shout. It seemed fitting at the moment as fire erupted out from the palms of Marcello and burned 30 ft in front of him.
Crystal was hit, but so was all the webbing in front of them. Small price to pay in Marcello's mind.
As the webbing broke of in fiery small strands, Marcello made a run for it once again.
Devastating Blast: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6 Dc 12 reflex to half, I suppose.+ 2d4 fire damage for standing in burning web.
Oh... now that I have done Direct damage, does that break my invisibility? And seeing as I am not setting fire to my own square, do I need to make a CMB or a CMD check?
CMB to break free?: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
CMD to break free?: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
DM-Kal |
You're both up again.
Marcello Wintrish |
Well... thanks for letting me keep the roll, makes everything a lot easier. Didn't think the Actions through.
Breaking the bonds with a grunt Sarcon would be proud of, Marcello moves through the fiery strands with ease and the small bit of grace that the heavy metal lets him have.
Crystal Shalhoume |
Another Save, yay!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Standing in fire damage: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3 Total 6 damage
As Marcello becomes visible 10 feet behind her she feels the searing heat of flame scorch her. However, it also scorches the webs around her, leaving her free to move once again. She wastes no time in questioning her good, yet charred, fortune, running as fast as she can down the street.
Run action...full speed ahead!
DM-Kal |
As Crystal bolts from the burning webs and down the street, she is suddenly swept from her feet by an invisible force and collides with the ground hard.
Marcello only makes it a few steps before he is struck by another barrage of magic.
Damage: 4d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 3) + 4 = 16
You guys are up! Except you're both down. But y'know.
Crystal Shalhoume |
Marcello Wintrish |
I am disliking everything about this encounter. At least it doesn't have acid traps.
Striding forward doesn't really help you much when you get shot in the back. Curious thoughts to have as Marcello becomes great acquaintances with the ground. Headfirst and with a pure shout of agony, Marcello is down on the ground disliking magic more and more as darkness swept over him.
Con Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 Made it by the skin of my teeth!
