those going into the hold:
as you decend the ladder to the cargo hold the first thing you hear is the sound of metal banging against metal with the mild movement of the ship. as you cautiously appriach you discover the cage holding Vincez is empty and the banging is the cage door.
you easily find the crate that you presume are from the pirate lord as it is the only crate that is currently open already.
investigation reveals that the crate contains fine china but it was also rumged through and lying on the deck next to the crate is a small box opened and empty. it appeared to have contained 5 viles.
there is movement from behind some of the other crates trying moving toward the ladder out of the cargo hold
searching the empty box there is a hidden compartment. inside you find a folded up parchment.
Lady Daresh, here are the ingredients you requested be sure to not mix them up, I expect payment of the coin by the end of the fith night in blood cove. I trust you have obtained the services of the alchemist
there is no signature on the note

Come out now.
Balthe moves into position to hit the ladder with color spray

Grung Knife Tongue |

Meanwhile......
Grung grabs Kimmy by her ankles and walks her across the low ceiling in the captains quarters...
"You magic walks not on floor girl!"
They criss-cross the room several times before Grungs shoulders get tired.
"We turn round till we gets dizzy!"

Valdric can get anither perception check DC 15 and +2 bonus for Balthe identifying something with a color spray spell
If you make it then you can act before Vincez does

DM of the coins |

Valdric was near the ladder but didn't see Vincez sneaking about but you did and cast color spray which would have alerted Valdric to possibly seeing vincez .
by my calcs I believe he made the save against the color spray spell.

Valdric notices Vincez skulking about the crates looking for a way to get out and chants out his wiches curse hexing him with misfortune.
then just as if things couldn't get worse for our poor escaping prisoner, Espy cracks his whip and snares Vincez's leg droppong him to the ground.
vincez lays there on his back, his hands raised in a feeble attempt to defend himself form any more damage.
Please no more I need to escape Vincez pleads for his life.

Balthe Synder |

Spill it all. NOW!
Then
And what kind of fool are you. We are on a SHIP a BOAT if you are as stupid as you look. Where are you going to go? Did you want to go to the ship filled with corpses, some of them still moving? Or just down to hang out with the sharks.

DM of the coins |

Vincez cowers on the deck please no, I didn't feeel the ship moving I thought we were in port. at least that is what she told me. or maybe she said when we get to port, I don't remember. Please you got to help me, I'm innocent. they mean to hang me when we get to port. no trial or anything
Vincez will try to stand (unless anyone prohibits him from standing) he puts up no resistance to your demands.
he seems very accomodating to your demands
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
He seems a little too accomidating to eager to follow your commands

Meanwhile in the cabin
** spoiler omitted **
Grung are you and Kimmy in the captian's cabin or the party's cabin (Impy and Kimmy had thier own cabin since they were female passengers.)
I am aassuming the party cabin since the captain's cabin was where there was adead body not to long ago and Selene still is staying there.

Grung Knife Tongue |

For what is taking place there it makes little difference, though I was trying to make sure that no mutiny occured while the guys were below decks...Your call (and Grung would see no problem with playing on or near a body).....

Kimberly Snow |

The body is out being prepped for a burial at sea, and while you don't have a [roblem with it Kimmy feels uncomfortable in the cpatan's cabin so I will just assume you moved to the "partys cabin" (as we can call it for now).
Kimmy enjoys playing with Grung, she seems to harbotr no fear or ill will toward Grung being a hobgoblin.
Grung? Kimmy seems to want to ask him something but seems unsure how to word the question.
when we get to Haanex, will we ... I mean can we.... will you ....
finally she picks the right words will you and Impy still be friends and come visit me?

The air around Balthe seems to thicken and smells slightly of Ozone as he begins to summon his powers over the weather.
[b] Time to be honest.[/b[

DM of the coins |

Ok , no need for the torture and your hexes, I made a deal with selene, started long before this ship left port. I need some items for someone and she knew how to get them. in return I would see to it that her and her captain Fenn would be set for life. Of course we never really discussed when that payment was to be made. Oh well her loss
this here was a part of the plan, she would pass the items on to me and late tonight she would lower a longboat and off i go over the side and on to freedom. now of course you guys and the Captain diein really wasn't in the plans, kind of fouled things up that stuff did.
Vincez looks at all of you same deal for all of you help me escape tonight and I can make sure each of you will be well rewarded in the new regime

Balthe Synder |

What items? For who? What is the payment? You are being far to vague for my liking Vinny.

Kimberly Snow |

Meanwhile in the cabin...
Grung seems confused.....
"Me an Impy err friends?......Err you sure she likes me?"
"Did she say something to you?"
no silly, i mean friends with me I won't have any friends when we get there and it would be nice to have some while I'm there, at least for a little while
Kimmy then whispers to Grung
I do think Impy likes that Ox fellow, you know the big dark skinned guy, I was helping her do her hair so she looked nice for him earlier

DM of the coins |

Vincez stands and brushes himself off .
glancing around be sure they are alone.
I am in the employ of a wizard, she goes by the name Daresh. from what I gather she found something very rare and has learned the formula to use what she found to create a very powerful magic item. there were a few more ingredients that were needed which I happen to know how to obtain, which is how I camae to be in her service.
Vincez pulls from a pocket in his robe a small vials. This is what she is after.

DM of the coins |

Vincez hands Balthe the vial. in contains some thick dark red liquid.
possibly blood.
I don't really know what the item is or what it looks like. I was tasked to obtain that for her. She was going to obtain the services of an Alchemist or wizard, which actually seemed strange considering she was a wizard herself and am I.
Vincez indicated the Vial he handed over to Balthe when he referenced what he was to obtain.
That vial contains the blood of a demon Vincez tries to take a step away from Impy as he says this unsure about her response.
I arranged a deal with Selene for the passage, but the only way to ensure passage unquestioned was to be a "prisoner". Selene had the vial sealed with things from her father, nobody would dare open a crate belongong to one of the Pirate lords.
of course assuming what you say is true, a ghost ship and no winds, that was not a part of the plan, unless the demon who spilled that blood wants it back, that could explain what is happening
you can sense that the last sentence is purly speculation and he is attempting to sound more informed than he probably is

Balthe Synder |

Sense Motive1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Allow me to do the speculating. You stick to the facts. I think it might be time to open that crate. What do you think folks?

DM of the coins |

Allow me to do the speculating. You stick to the facts. I think it might be time to open that crate. What do you think folks?
the crate was already opened that was where you found the empty box that looks like it once contained vials (which you now have) and found the note in the hidden compartment. the rest of the items in the crate appeared to be fine china ware (valuable yest but not suspicious)
you never determined how many vials, while the box could have held at least 4 but, there was no evidence that it actually did contain that many

Balthe Synder |

OOOO. If I was half as clever as many of my characters I would know that.

DM of the coins |

meanwhile in the cabin with Kimmy and grung...
Kimmy gives grung a big hug
thanks grungie. I hope that when we get there I'll find out who my mom and dad are.
You think, out of the corner of your eye you saw Kimmy's teddy bear start moving. looks like its arms are waving

Kimberly Snow |

Kimmy looks at Grung curiously like that was a dumb question.
but the look definately does not match her answer
yes, sometimes, when there are spirits nearby or my spirits with me are trying to say something. but I don't know how to talk to them so I just let them wave and move stuff. don't your toys move?

![]() |

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 Sense Motive
Well well well.. In that case, I'm sorry, but we need to sacrifice you. Thats the thing about demons.. you took their blood aboard the ship, now you have to pay the price of blood. Though.. we could.. help you. Maybe. But honestly.. we need to know what it would be worth us for it. No imaginary regimes rewarding us. I'm not a man of faith. Especially not a man who puts faith into humans." he pauses for a moment.. "Or elves, dwarves, goblins, fairies.. you get the picture. Mortals lie and betray far more than gods ever do."

DM of the coins |

Vincez looks around to make sure its just you guys.
I'm not sure what exactly this magic item is, what I do know it the fact that there are only two known alchemists that learned the secret to craft it. Now Daresh has secured the services of one them. the other, who knows. That blood is the final ingredient to needed.
with the item she intends to use its power to overthrow the pirate lords of the shakles and restore some sense of law and order to the region. ahe seeks to return Port Peril, and the rest of the shakles to a hub of commerce and a starting point for exploration. and after she removes the pirates her next target will be the Red Mantis Assassins.
Vincez appears to to truly believe his words nothing indicates deception

Kimberly Snow |

"Bear waves arms like this....."
Demonstrates
"Seems says not do something, no Grung had no toys."
Kimmy looks at her bear and it isn't moving.
He probably just was saying hi, he probably likes you. the only other time he would do that is if there were a ghost in the room, and that isn't possible

Balthe Synder |

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
He seems honest. What do you propose Vincez. We aren't letting you flee.
