The color spray goes off just as Vincez unleashes a scorching ray at the archer bounty hunter.
Vincez will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
vincez range touch: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Vincez is slightly distracted by the color spray but it has no effect on him the scorching ray flies striking the archer.
damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 3) = 9
definately wounded by the ray the archer takes a shot at Vincez
archer attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
arrow damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
the arrow stikes vincez and a burst of gas explodes around him and he collapses unconcious.
The bounty hunters stow thier weapons and go to retrieve him the swordsman tosses a coin pouch to what appears to be a militia captain and then tosses another pouch to Balthe
thanks for the assist
inside the pouch is 100 gold coins
Balthe Synder |
You will ALL accompany me to the magistrate to see this is settled. Grung would you mind picking up our friend here? Lead the way gentlemen. Diplo 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Balthe will divide the money amongst 5 of us
DM of the coins |
the swordsman, who by now you can deduce is the leader. starts to voice an objection but stop before he speaks.
very well then. besides my friend could use a bit of healing anyway.
he looks to see if there any city guards around and feeling sure there are none he tells Balthe do you really trust the magistrate here? in a Pirate town? hell the guards work for the highest bidder.
I have a better idea he suggests, since you have an interest in this. take this writ to the Captain of the Albers, a Captain Fenn, passage for this prisoner has already been arranged. you and your friends can be his escort. see him safely delivered to the house guards which will be waiting in Bloodcove. you will know them by this amulet.
He hands you an amulet that has the same symbol as the rune old pete was inscribing on his chest.
As for us He takes Vincez's Spellbook, this should be plenty compensation for us.
Vincez is placed in Masterwork manacles as he speaks to you.
So what is your answer
DM of the coins |
the bounty hunters take his spell book but you do find a pouch with 25 silver and a letter.
I will post the info in the letter later I don't have all my notes handy at the moment
Balthe Synder |
Give us a moment. Gents? Balthe looks to his companions for their thoughts.
Espy Kismet |
"Well, might as well do so." Though Espy is skeptical about this. The scoring ray didn't do well to convince him of Vincez's innocence, but taking the spell book.. poison gas arrows, that symbol.. his bardic senses tingle that there is a mystery here.
the man screaming at the bar was going on about a ghost ship before he started carving the symbol. The same symbol these men were wearing. A prisoner who may or may not have done a bad thing.. Heck the spell he used.. was it more clerical or arcanic.. spell book.. arcanic. Not something an initiate mage could cast. For the two hunters to take him out, that would normally mean they were fairly well trained, though the gas arrow might come from a skilled alchemist.. Epsy holds his head in frustration. "Lets get him to where ever they say he's suppose to go"
Balthe Synder |
Agreed. We agree Balthe says to the hunter's Is that all the info you have? Give us the history.
Impatiens Pallida |
Impatiens raises one skeptical eyebrow. Weren't all magistrates corrupt everywhere? And the difference between piracy and commerce was generally the ability to get away with doing the dirty deed.
She comforted herself and her feelings of injustice by sheathing her sword and glowering at all concerned.
Since it appeared that they were all about to take an ocean voyage she rather hoped the meals on whatever ship they selected sucked. She just knew she had gained weight. Again. A fortnight of bad meals and sea sickness and she would be back to fighting trim. Of course that would be very hard on Kimmy...
Grung Knife Tongue |
"Is others comes to help prisoner man? How him run into Grung fist?"
Grung hands a folded paper over to Balthe.
"This yer shopping list, you dropped it."
Balthe
Balthe Synder |
Balthe glances at the paper... Lets get back to the church and I will look at this there.
He also gives everyone 5 silver. a total of 20 gp and 5 sp for everyone
Valdric |
"An escort to the ship seems easy enough, but we don't know much about Krakas so should be very cautious when dealing with guards that openly bear his symbol"
Valdric looks at the soldier with concern but after what he overheard in the bar he is hesitant to opening use his gifts in public. He does stop to check the wound however.
Healing skill: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
DM of the coins |
Valdric
the wounds are minor burns from the scorching ray not very serious to someone of his sature and abilities.
Unless there are objections you escort the prisoner back to the church where Balthe reads the paper that Grung gave him.
Vincez, I have found all the ingredients needed and have aquired the services of an Alchemist. and he is perfect for the task. Have you been able to keep them from using the sacrifice? so long as they don't complete the cerimony they will remain vulnerable.
Meet me at the designated point I will have the coin completed by then and I will have all the power I need.
Daresh
you notice that the "I" is crossed off and replaced with "We"
Kimmy is packed and ready to go she only has a small sachel for her belongings.
Kimberly Snow |
As kimmy joins the group she notices Vincez in manacles.
she stares at him for a bit then approaches slowly
Uncle Vinny?
Vincez replies with a growl Get away kid, I don't know what your talking about.
Balthe Synder |
Sense Motive 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Balthe reads the paper to his new friends.
I need a drink...
Valdric |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
"Daresh? I've heard that name before. There were 2 sailors in the tavern, sounded like they were from the Albers, who were talking about how Captain Fenn had refused passage to a woman named Lady Daresh. They called her.....a practicer of the black arts. They seemed to think her mad, and they were quite afraid. Talked about how the captain was afraid of her too."
"So quite the trip to the market: we have a man who isnt as innocent as he claims, being in the employ of a dark wizard of questionable sanity but who seems to be working against a 'sacrifice', and who we are supposed to turn over to a ship captain who is probably part of an evil cult dedicated to an ancient sea god."
Valdric's shoulders slump a bit as he looks around the group, his hand drifting up to grasp the amulet around his neck. He says in a soft voice, "Almost makes you miss the kobolds........"
Grung Knife Tongue |
"Maybe someone wit a pretty face should find sum tings out an ask around fer whats goin on."
Grung rises from the table and walks over to the bar...
Grung gives it a shot with the bartender...
"Im not from round here an managed tah get right in tha middle o tings, what is yer advice?"
DM if you need a roll instead of roleplay let me know
DM of the coins |
see discussion thread for summing up the scattered information I ahve given/tried to exlain
Kimberly Snow |
Kimmy looks at the cleric
I thought I did, but I was always told that Uncle Vinny was killed by giants 3 years ago. He does kinda look like him though. Maybe its just me wiishing he was still alive
Kimmy seems a bit down, remembering her uncle.
Balthe Synder |
Vin keep your trap shut. When I want your opinion I will give it to you!
To Kimmy Don't worry sweetheart. Nothing to be sad about. Balthe then dives into a humurous song about the Hero Hobgoblin with pink bows in his hair
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Well I guess we have a boat to catch
When they arrive Balthe will present the pertinent info to those that need to see it, being very clear that he is a cleric of Besmara.
Grung Knife Tongue |
Here comes Grung Knife tongue! Hero Hobgoblin with pretty pink bows in his hair.....Have no fear her comes.....
Or
Grung, grung Knife tongue does whatever a knife-tongue does!, Whatch out here comes a Grung!
Valdric |
Kills a cyclops, any size......
"That is the trick isnt it? We are clearly in the middle of something...something important.....but which path do we take? Sounds like we have a chance to make our ancestors proud.....or cause some ill if we're not careful."
He looks to the priest again. "Your position seemed to sway those guards a bit. Do you have enough influence to keep us on to guard Vincez instead of just hand him off to the Captain? We've got time on the ship to keep asking him questions, he might be able to provide us some insight..... does your goddess grant you gifts that can help us cut through his lies and half truths?"
Impatiens Pallida |
Impatiens begins playing her lute while the others discuss probabilities.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 Perform
She plays mostly simple catchy tunes of a popular vein with the odd sea shanty thrown in for good measure.
DM of the coins |
you make your way to the pier you were told and see the merchant ship, The Albers, docked there. several men are loading some cargo on board.
you see a young sailor overseeing the loading of the cargo with a large muscular man with dark skin seemingly enforcing the yourger man's orders.
as you approach Old Pete (the man you saved at the tavern before he carved himself).
Ahh I see you are here, that is good, yes? capn' Fenn is a bit preoccupied but first mate Huxley be avaialable if'n ya need ta talk
He shows you over to the twop men overseeing the cargo.
Mister Huxley sir, these be the people I be tellin ya bout.
the younger man turns to greet you.
That they are, and a Motly crew they are. Well we'll have ta see what yer needin before we negotiate cost.
he looks over his shoulder to the larger man Ox, take charge here, and be extra carful with the marked crates, their the Captain private stuff
Ox responds with the traditional Aye!
He looks back at your group So, where ya needin' to go? and whats yer cargo?
You can't help but notice that the Alber's has no large weapons to defend from pirate attacks (considering you are in pirate cenral) only a railing swivil gun.
Balthe Synder |
I am Balthe Synder, Cleric of Besmara. We are here on business with your Captain. Send him our way if you would.
Balthe Synder |
SM 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 then Sailor 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Valdric, have no fear, we will be fine on this ship. I have spent many a year on board before Besmara took me. Now where is that captain?
Balthe drinks some wine from his wine skin.
DM of the coins |
I am Balthe Synder, Cleric of Besmara. We are here on business with your Captain. Send him our way if you would.
Huxley looks over the cleric sizing him up "so to speak"
I am the captn's authority, as first mate he has entrusted me to run the day to day affairs. anything you have to say to the captain can be said to me.
Huxley seems unimpressed by your station at the church.
But he does respect your position.
there is are signs of both in his tone.
did you bring Vincez with you at this time?
Balthe Synder |
He is at the back of the pack of us. If he looks he will probably see him, but if he is speaking with me he probably has not noticed him yet
Very well Huxley. We have a writ for your captain granting us passage with our prisoner Vincez aboard your vessel. As you can see the details are here in this document. I am an experienced sailor and I will offer my services aboard your vessel as well. Balthe shows Huxley the writ.
DM of the coins |
Huxley looks over the writ.
Hmmm. seems in order... he hands the paper back
Welcome aboard the Albers. We sail tonight with the evening tide. We wait for no one.
I fyou wish you can escort the prisoner to the brig on board for safe keeping
Impatiens Pallida |
While the talky people are talking, Impatiens does a quick scan of the ship and crew. She pays special attention to their weapons and armour, checking to see what quality they are and how well maintained..
Essentially she is taking 20. But if that is not appropriate, here is a die roll
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
DM of the coins |
Taking 20 is fine for this
the crew seem your average mechant ship crew. little or no armor (if they could afford armor).
the only weapons you see would be knives tucked into a belt on some of the men. you surmise that there might be a weapons locker on board where the crew could arm themselves if required.
You notice a woman on the deck looking down onto the pier, dressed in black pants and white shirt, long black hair and a wide brimmed hat. the deck railing hides some of her so you do not get a view of any weapons she may be carrying.
she looks down at the group then turns to head into the ship out of your view
knowlwdge local check
it is currently late morning to mid-day you have several hours before needing to be on board.
DM of the coins |
By the time people look up at where Impy is pointing whatever she was pointing at is gone.
Huxly looks up. in that direction as well.
You probably are talking about Selene. She is the the Captain's...ahh...err...business partner. fumbling for the right words to describe her presence on the ship.
Valdric and Espy when they start to scan the deck area where Impy was pointing, while they do not see the girl she was describing they do notice what look like two men boarding the Albers. both appear to be well-to-do "Pirate Captains"
knowledge local checks please if you have it
Balthe Synder |
Diplomacy 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Anything we should know before we set off?
Balthe says while fingering his belt pouch, suggesting there might be a coin reward for info.
Balthe Synder |
hahahahahaha! That is true Sir Tongue!
Balthe offers Grung some of his wine.
