"Because, quite frankly, I'm not certain. I seem to be terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought. That is a LOT of bony mouths to feed!"

"FINALLY! Something that ISN'T immune to my favorite thing!" Justin chortles almost hysterically into the din of battle. (Surely it only sounds that way due to the effects of Merle's Haste spell. Yes.)

"EKUUR! It's NOT immune to fire! Show it some Heavenly love!"

Reposting my actions from last page here, it fits better now. :)

Justin starts casting, his motions speeding up as Merle's spell kicks in and everyone begins moving faster. Seeing Hamar, Arnav and Karrin already engaged, he picks his aim carefully.

"Time to start this party off with a bang! Fuego! Maximus!"

Fireball, Intensified (+5 levels), with all bonuses, it is a 14d6 fireball. Picking a target spot BEHIND the hydra (will move forward if needed, with haste it should be easy) hopefully catching all of the heads in the blast, and NOT the front-liners. :P

Justin makes an arcane gesture involving crossing his hands, then uncrossing them with fingers spread, creating an opening between his hands, like a serpents eye opening. His amulet glows in response. He then makes a few, familiar gestures that trail brief flames before punching a single finger forward and shouting "FUEGO! EMPOWERUS!"

The various attacks tear into the insubstantial foe, although doing less damage than one would expect facing a corporeal enemy. Still, the creature is dispersed greatly, blobs of ectoplasm spinning off and fading into thin air. It howls and throws a whip-quick pseudopod at 1d8 ⇒ 4 Justin. The skinny wizard has just a quick impression of darkness covering him. A wave of dizziness threatens to bring him to his knees.

Justin's usual look of self-satisfaction (his usual look when faced with something that's attempting to eat him. That, or sheer panic.) melts into a wide eyed look of surprise when he notices the lack of damage his fiery lance failed to inflict as it passes harmlessly through the necromantic creature.

"Well s,... oh that's bad!" is all the wizard has time to blurt as a lightning-quick psuedopod of darkness snaps towards him.

Sadly Justin does not currently have anywhere near a 26 AC. :P Hit the Wiz

No dice! lose 5 pts CON, do not pass go, do not collect 200GP ;P I'll figure out how much net HP loss comes with that drain this afternoon :) (I presume that the ioun stones we are using are full time protecting us against the plane itself, so no protection from attacks? Never thought to ask that before.) ;P

The psuedopod swiftly but gently touches the wizard, smothering him in soft, cold darkness. He winces at the cold touch as it pierces his meager defenses. The psuedopod withdraws as swiftly as it came, and Justin stands there for a moment, still braced for the attack that has already happened. He grins maniacally, his burst of harsh laughter half relief, half panic and shock. He waves at the others.

"I'm okOWWW!" he cries in pain, staggering as the necromantic energies that simple poke left behind surges through him, draining him of energy and life.

Justin shivers from the cold and he bursts into sweat as if he has a fever worthy of the plane of fire. He coughs harshly, small wisps of darkness escaping with each hacking breath. His knees turn into pudding and he stumbles, clutching at the nearby floating Memnon in a desperate attempt to stay upright.

"Huh. You don't look so good." Memnon observes dryly, his usual strident voice muffled by Justin's gloved hand. "I should warn you. Necromantic energies and you mortal fleshbags don't usually mix well. WHY so many of you want to become specialists in Necromantic energies I'll never knooow" Memnon whoofs as Justin uses his precarious grip on the floating crystal skull to push himself more or less upright again. Memnon spins to once more hide behind Justin's skinny frame. His crystal face exudes extreme displeasure at being used as a crutch.

Arnav sees the fragments of the wraith preparing to drain more life force. He fixes his gaze upon it, "You will feed no more."

"Get away from our wizard!" Karrin chimes in as she competes with Hamar for the title of 'Whirling Dervish-Axe Edition', Slicing at the necromantic cloud with a speed that should not be possible at her 'fun-sized' height. Even if she is magically hasted.

"Yeah. What she said!" Justin coughs, more or less upright under his own strength once more.

"Unless you have magics to aid in hitting incorporeal creatures, try to time your attacks with it's attacks. It has to turn solid in order to hit us!" Justin shouts hoarsely. The creature's attack on him having provided a, painful, lesson into one of it's (hopeful) vulnerabilities.

Merle, would you mind giving Justin a piggy back ride? You can just drop him when danger starts, I'd do it but I'm kind of front line and anything that can reach me would just smoosh him in the state. One thing I learned about wizards though, they can be old and feeble and still blast things. Just means we got to be more careful about letting monsters through to get him from now until we can get him fixed up."

"Hardy Har har. Very funny." Justin says dryly, giving both Karrin and Merle a flat look.

The wizard touches Nari's shoulder gently in thanks for the ectoplasmic shield.

"Your wits can join my feeble, wrinkled arse in the old-wizards nursing home and keep me company." Justin calls vaguely in Karrin's direction. (He winks at Nari and gives the mentalist a swift, if weak, grin.)

"All kidding aside, try not to let those blasted things touch you. It hurts. A lot. I'll be fine. Just,..." His hand flops like a fish out of water as he hunts for a phrase. Finally he gives up with a final flutter.

",... Give me a minute." He finishes lamely.

A swift self-examination shows no actual wound left by the creature's attack. Unless you count the rapidly spreading bruise on his chest. But while not cut and bleeding, Justin most assuredly looks pale, weak and haggard compared to his usual energetic self.

Justin glances at Memnon, still floating nearby, and then at the stoic Ekuur. (Who could probably have taken the same hit and laughed it off. Figures.) He sighs softly. "We're gonna need more diamond dust real soon at this rate." He grumbles.

"Maybe. Maybe not. We haven't seen much indication of the occupants patrolling the chambers. The only 'wanderer' we've encountered is Memnon's new necromantic girlfriend."

"HEY!?!" Pipes the afore-mentioned crystalline voice in tinny outrage. Justin continues without missing a beat.

"Seems like the occupants are waiting for something. Or someone. We may have time. BUT, the hourglass is running on our defensive enchantments. And we started this little side quest by upsetting a hornet's nest of demon-ghosts in the midst of a ritual. How long before something notices that isn't finished yet and goes to investigate?"

"Do you have a spare? If you do I vote for moving on. I'd like to stay ahead of whatever it is that's going on around here."

Justin frowns. "You know, it's a simple charm I know of, could probably fix any mechanical device or object in less than a minute. Unfortunately my traveling spellbook is more focused on breaking things than fixing them. I'll need to remedy that when we get back to Sigil."
