Hi guys - quick question for the GM. If I play a dhampir cavalier can I take a wolf as my ghost mount rather than a horse? It prevents me actually riding it until later levels but I feel that a wolf has a lot more synergy with a dhampir background (planning to play up the vampire side of the heritage) - mechanically I don't think it makes much odds but I do love a fluffy choice! Would that be ok?

Also - are Dhampir variant heritages permitted?

Also, also - would taking two racial traits be a problem? There are so many fluffy dhampir ones I want them all!

Yes on the wolf mount Nicolaus - love the flavor.

Yes and yes concerning the heritages/racial traits.

The gypsy lady smiles at Govannon. Indeed, her sweet tenor of a voice certainly fits within the spectrum of sultry, "A pleasure."

She extends her hand, palm down, in greeting. Twin silver bracelets and a bejeweled leather strip encircle that wrist, and the scent of sweet perfume now rises into Govannon's nostrils, displacing the scent of his tobacco.

"Oh, I'm Aliseya. But you can call me Ali."

Ali...

Clearly not well versed in how to handle a proper lady Govannon sputters, grabs her hand meatily, and shakes it heartily. He rolls the cigarette to the side of his mouth and replies, "I'm Govannon. I, uh, folks call me 'Gov most of the time, er, once they get to know me. I guess Govannon is too much work for some folk." he stammers.

Think you idiot! Don't talk about you, talk about her!

"Uh." he looks around a little color coming to his high cheekbones, "Come here often?"

Oh yeah, good job idiot. Like she's never heard that before.

He rushes on, "Er, I like those bracelets. Where did you get them? They're very fine."

"Well, well. Aren't we in charming company?" The speaker, a woman with flowing black hair, stands from her stool at the bar and crosses the floor with a grace equaling Aliseya's own. Approaching the young woman she takes Ali's still outstretched hand and bows over it, leaning in to kiss the knuckle. When she straightens again there is a tiny scratch on Ali's hand which beads a small droplet of blood.

Looking the Varisian girl straight in the eye she speaks, her voice clear and melodic, with a compelling note which draws every eye towards the conversation. "My name is Sariana, I'm here to help."

This is my official submission of Sariana Nightsong. Couple of things to mention about the crunch - I'm not sure how a Sohei wearing armor interacts with the monk AC bonus. At the moment I've not included it but the FAQ rulings seem to state that a Sohei can use the 'unarmored' monk features while wearing armor. It certainly wouldn't be a great archetype otherwise! Could I get a GM ruling on this? :) Secondly I haven't calculated saves because I wasn't sure whether to use fractional saves or not - they're from Unchained and make much more sense so I prefer them but thought I should check first.

Finally a confession. I have broken one of the character requirements... Sariana is LN not good. I just can't see her character as actually being outright good since drinking the blood of sentient beings is specifically called out as an evil act if they are not consenting. Sariana does live by a strict code which governs her actions, one which has been reinforced and expanded by her time in the Order of the Palatine Eye but she isn't 'good' by any stretch of the imagination. I hope that's not a problem.

Sariana's Background:
Do you know what it’s like to die before you are even born? No? Then you can’t judge me – I’ve seen, been and done things most people could never consider. That makes me different, and that gives me the right to make things different too. You wouldn’t understand, your hearts beat normally, you breathe deeply, you’re lucky and you don’t even realise it. Not everyone is.

My mother was unlucky – she was young, pretty, well connected and married to a powerful nobleman, but she was walking in a quiet palace garden on the wrong night. He attacked her there, drained her dry and left her body under a severed wolf head. I found out later that it was part of a ritual that he’d obtained, meant to bring ‘the night’s hunters under death’s dominion’. It worked, just not how he planned.

My mother was heavily pregnant when she was attacked and I was delivered from her dead body by the palace doctors after the alarm was raised. At first my father thought I was a miracle and cared for me, but when I grew older and screamed every time a priest blessed me, when he took me to the estates and found me in the slaughterhouse watching the butchers, he grew cold and fearful. When my fangs finally appeared for the first time he snapped and disowned me. He was the first man to let me down, I don’t blame him though – he at least tried.

So there I was, little more than a girl, alone and lost on the streets of Caliphas – trapped between the mists and the great dark lake. I’ve always been beautiful, all of my kind are, but being beautiful, young and female is not a good combination. I killed my first man two nights in, he pushed me up against an alley wall and I tore his throat out while he was fumbling with his britches. That night changed everything – not because I now had a knife or money but because I tasted the first real pleasure of my life, the intoxication of blood.

Only human blood though. Elf is too thin, a vintage past its best every time. Dwarf, conversely, is more like stew, it’s grainy and sticks in my teeth. Only human blood carries the richness of experience and the subtle tang of urgency. You can learn so much from blood, hopes and fears, dreams and secrets. The more I drank the more I learned – my eyes were opened to the powers that lurk in the corners of the eye, the shadows behind our hands, the nightmares in our minds.

Chasing those shadows nearly killed me. I pursued a man I saw in the blood, a stalker and a killer who branded his victims with signs before ending them. I was young and confident, too confident. He trapped me, caught me with his mind when I leapt from the rooftop above him. That was when I met Luca. He leapt out of the night and caught the man by the legs. I fell and by the time I recovered the man was gone and I was facing Luca, alone. His experiment worked – just not how he planned. Luca was mine, my very own ‘night hunter', we both knew that at once. Together, we lived in the nights as we pleased.

Now don’t think of me as a savage like you hear of in the bulletins. I am not, and never have been, a wanton murderer. I can’t survive on blood, I still eat like the rest of you – blood is like wine, the most potent and perfect wine you could ever taste. You may crave it but even a drunk can’t survive on wine alone and my father raised me well – he taught me laws and morality and I remembered them, even fifty years later with him cold in the grave he shared with my mother. So I preyed only on those who would prey on me, never pregnant women or children. I will never create another to suffer as I have. I promised that to myself – that’s what makes me better than him, possible the only thing.

So I chose carefully, only taking from the ones who deserved it. The thieves who would take my coin, the pimps who would take my pride and the thugs who would take my virtue. I let them in close and took from them instead, left them drained but alive. I think it was that, more than anything else that saved me – the fact that I didn’t kill out of hand.

When the hunters came, with the Eye on their chests, I fought back but neither of us struck to kill. They took me, bound in silver and iron, back to their mansion which has been my home these last sixty years. At first I was a prisoner, a test subject, but gradually they relaxed and I became something more, a guest of sorts. I shared the secrets of my abilities with them, Luca and I demonstrated what we could do and the Order watched and took notes. In exchange they taught me of the things I had seen, the secrets and the shadows. They taught me how to use my gifts and beguile the weak, and how to defend the fools on the streets against the greater evils in the dark. There are far worse monsters in this world than I.

Now, finally, they’ve let me go. They sent us out, Luca and I, on a mission for them. Collect the tomes from Professor Lorrimor and bring them back to Caliphas. They’ve promised me initiation in return, access to all their secrets, all their resources. With the Order at my back I’ll finally be able to do what I’ve wanted to ever since I was born from my mother’s dead body. I’ll find him, the vampiric father who birthed me into this wretched world between and, once I’ve thanked him for Luca, we’ll tear his gods-damned throat out.

The gypsy feels for poor Gov. Her eyes widen and contract again with every stammer and stumble for the right words. But a kind smile remains constant. Her eyes sparkle with glee at the mention of her jewelry. But as she is about to answer his last question, an enchanting woman with black hair interrupts.

Ali's eyes remain transfixed by her rather sultry and enchanting greeting. She replies with a mellow, "Help? How?" It is then that her eyes gaze down to the blood on the back of her extended hand. With a delayed reaction to the prick, she suddenly jerks her hand back. "Like... ouch, lady. That wasn't very helpful." Her brows furrow as she nurses her scratch by sucking at it.

She just needed a drop of your blood, to get a 'taste' of the kind of person you are :D

Just had a character miss on another CC recruitment. I'll have to do some retooling, but I'll definitely have a submission for y'all.

I'd have to make some adjustments mostly buffing up to level 3 for this character. Anything specific your party might need?
This guy is a grippli cleric of Desna focused on party support and healing, through his agile tongue feat he can apply touch spells as 10ft away.

Indeed, any specific holes that need filling? What is the current party makeup?

Hi all. I'm one of the players, and I thought I'd answer the question of what we have right now at least, so you can better ascertain what we lack. I'll let our GM Oak tell you what he's looking for, though.

We've had four regular players thus far:
- a barbarian,
- a magus,
- an oracle (variant medium), and
- a rogue.

We also have just heard from a returning fifth player, a spiritualist.

This is Ouachitonian's submission; Aleksander Albus, Dhampir Paladin of Alseta. He's not a high-damage guy, at least at the moment, but that will change as his fighter bonus feats (as a Tempered Champion) pile up. The Hospitaler archetype will allow him to serve as a subsidiary healer and/or massacre low-level undead with extra uses of Channel Energy. Finally, the Ghost Hunter archetype is basically made for this AP. I hope you don't mind the archetype-stacking.

Right now, he's more of a Dex-based, low-damage but hard to hit character. At some point, I'll get around to taking the Racial feat Life-Dominant Soul, allowing him to benefit from his own Lay on Hands and Channel Energy (TWF and Weapon Finesse are more important right now though). I've tried to keep his skills up so he isn't a total waste of space out of combat, but it's hard on a 2+INT character with no use for INT, lol.

Full fluff, crunch, personality, and appearance are in the alias's profile.

I love your dhampir paladin concept Aleksander - please introduce yourself in the discussion section.

Caracoti, I think the party would be well served with a cleric of Desna. Please make your adjustments. You may also introduce yourself in the discussion section.

I will pm you each in the next several days with further instructions.

Hi there!

We're looking for a replacement GM for our Carrion Crown game. We might be interested in a new player as well, as we're down to four.

We just completed the second chapter, Trial of the Beast, when our GM announced he had to take his leave. We're therefore looking to start the third chapter, Broken Moon.

The current party lineup is:
- Aliseya, the tempestuous free-spirit (changeling oracle/medium)
- Naught, the uncanny bohemian (changeling bloodrager)
- Zelda, the artful artificer (human rogue)

We have a fourth player, but his character was killed at the end of the second chapter. So he needs to either get resurrected or create a new one.

Regarding play style, I'd say we're more into story and role-playing over roll-playing.

If interested, please let us know here. Thanks!

I'd be highly interested in playing. I have yet to play Carrion Crown and I've always been interested in it. I tend to be active through most days and easily post 2-3 times. Not sure what the party would need but it looks like an arcane caster and possibly a ranged/melee mix would be best. I got a few ideas along those line I can flesh out quickly.

I was playing the recently-deceased Paladin. We also formerly had a Magus and a Cleric, who dropped out earlier. Our Magus was, I think, doing quite a bit of our heavy lifting, both in terms of damage and arcane resources. My Paladin was more of a Dex build, TWF-ing with Daggers (though using an archetype that progressed their damage Warpriest-style). He was a bit overspecialized; he tore through undead, but against anything else, especially anything with DR, he wasn't great.

I may wait to hear from the new GM before I build a new character, sometimes the options a GM permits can make a big difference in terms of build viability. But I'll probably go for some sort of martial or gish, since I think damage-dealing is something we were kind of lacking.

Is the rogue an effective scout? I have a decent scout built I'd like to try but if the rogue is pretty traditional then it would be redundant. I was considering a magus or an arcanist. Thanks for the information. I'll keep my eye on here an work on some more ideas.

Hey J,

If you like horror, then Carrion Crown's the game for you (I love it).

You should be more than good regarding posting rate. Once per day is our ideal.

She is a straight-up core rogue I believe, so we do have scouting covered. Either an arcanist or magus sounds like a great fit.

We'll be starting at either level 7 or 8 btw. While our former GM gave us the go ahead to level up to 8, Paizo's online blurb on chapter 3 indicates we are to start at 7th level. So, I guess it's up to our new GM.

Well, thank you all for the warm welcome. I figured it might be more of a submit a character situation, but I welcome the chance to play the heavy horror theme of this AP. I have a few ideas for characters that I am kicking around but there is one thing I want to mention before going further as it may be an issue.

While I have never ran nor played the Carrion Crown AP, I have had a subscription to the APs since Crimson Throne was first published, and have access to all and have read almost all of the APS. That includes Carrion Crown. It has been some time, I'd say at least 4 or 5 years, since I read it entirely but I have used it for reference occasionally during that time. I don't remember all the details but I would say I will know most of the major plot points.

I have decades of experience in RPGs, so I am proud of ability to not use player knowledge but I know to some people even having a player with that knowledge can be a deal breaker. Just want to be up front on this in case it is an issue for any one. IF it is an issue, no hard feelings guys and girls. I appreciate even the consideration.

Let me know.

I don't think it would be an issue ^w^

Yeah, I agree with Naught. Any one of us who've been playing for a short time has probably come across published material previously, including me. I previously played and also ran the first chapter of CC before joining this game, so I can't really be the judge against others anyway, lol.

Now, hopefully, we can attract a GM too...

Well, thank you.

In anticipation of our new GM, let me introduce you to Dorijann vom Mear.

So the long and short of it, I may take over. I am in the process of moving and need to find, AP. I need to read over the thread, and I need to go on vacation starting wednesday for two weeks.

I may also be too busy if work doesnt hire some new blood soon. but im hoping i can help out.

Sovereign Court

Why thank you!

Thanks Nine! Moving is enormous work and stress, I know. I don't mind waiting a few weeks. Just let us know when you're more certain.

...

Maybe the rest of us can take it over to the Gameplay thread and roleplay a bit in the meantime? I don't mind setting the backdrop; I'll post there soon to set the scene. As far as I'm concerned, you're in Dorijann, so feel free to join us there.

Sovereign Court

Yeah Nine, take your time. Moving can be a real pain, so get settled and see if you can make the commitment. Pretty sure we'll be here.

Scarab Sages

It may take me longer than I had anticipated to finish the move, train people at work, then digest what you folks have done and where you are at.

In other words, if some other DM has the time and wants to run for you folk by all means speak up. I would hate to see you languish waiting on me >.<

Thanks for letting us know, TheNine. Best wishes with the move and all.

I suppose then we should continue to search...

Anyone want to GM for our group? Pretty pretty please? :)

Hi again. We are still looking for a replacement GM for this game.

We just completed the second chapter, Trial of the Beast, when our GM announced he had to take his leave. We're therefore looking to start the third chapter, Broken Moon.

The current party lineup is:
- Aliseya, the tempestuous free-spirit (changeling oracle/medium)
- Naught, the uncanny bohemian (changeling bloodrager)
- Zelda, the artful artificer (human rogue)

And introducing two new characters to our group:
- Nox Copperscale (tiefling alchemist)
- Dorijann vom Mear (human staff magus)

Regarding play style, I'd say we're more into story and role-playing over roll-playing.

If interested, please let us know here. Thanks!

If you can be patient for about a week or so, I might be able to assume the reigns. Hate to see a CC Campaign that has made it this far go under, particularly one I enjoyed playing on once upon a time.

Thanks DMBleedsGreen!

Yes, we've really enjoyed playing together for a while now. So I am certain that I speak for everyone when I say we can be patient. :)

I started up a short freeform roleplay session to keep us occupied in the interim between GMs. But that can end whenever, and if, you're ready to take over.

Thanks! :)

*hugs DMBG*

Greetings!

We're looking for a new player to join our merry band of adventurers. We will soon begin Broken Moon, book #3 in the horror-themed Carrion Crown AP series.

After completing the second book, Trial of the Beast, our GM announced that he had to take his leave last fall. As one of the players, I've decided to take up the mantle myself. Our play style is more about story and role-playing over roll-playing. While I've not GMed on Paizo much, I do have many years of GMing experience with both in-person and PbP games.

The current party lineup is:
- Aliseya, the tempestuous free-spirit (changeling oracle)
- Naught, the uncanny bohemian (changeling bloodrager)
- Zelda, the artful artificer (human rogue)
- And, introducing a new fourth character, Brud (changeling sorcerer).

So we're looking for a new fifth character to round out the crew.

If interested, feel free to apply here. If we get a few or more interested players, I'll consult with the other players to choose who we might believe will work out best. Everyone will start at level 7. Please read all the House Rules located in the Campaign Info tab before creating your character, and feel free to ask questions here.

Thanks, good luck, and happy adventuring!

Silver Crusade

Hi there!

I’ve submitted a character to another Carrion Crown game that’s in progress, starting book 4, but I would be very happy to get in a campaign at an earlier point, if you’ll have me. I’ve never played in a Carrion Crown campaign before.

Here she is. Obviously, I will rebuild her to 7 if accepted and adjust her to the house rule requirements.

Welcome to our recruitment, Hrothdane. :)

I enjoyed reading your profile. A therapist, eh? Sookie would certainly have her work cut out for her with the nut jobs in this party, LOL. By "nut jobs," I am particularly referring to Aliseya... She has three personalities, at last count... :o

Again, welcome!

Silver Crusade

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Tsukiyo is more about accepting those society views as “mad” than about trying to push people into a narrow socially-constructed concept of “normal,” so she would actually love the opportunity to work with a group of nutjobs :)

Tsukiyo’s paladin code is a lot nicer and less militant than most paladin codes, which is part of what drew me to it. I love me some paladins, but an alternate take that leans more neutral good in many ways is very appealing to me!

I do very much appreciate creative approaches to classes. Especially one like the paladin, which tends to be stereotyped a bit too often. Very nice. :)

I don't think we'll spend too much time waiting for more recruits. I'll give it until this weekend and, if anyone else does pop in to apply, we'll decide then.

Hi guys, bit late to the party, I have posted this character for another Carrion Crown's game as well, probably the same as Hrothdane.
He is a Lantern King cleric, a bad touch build. He is kinda mad, as his visions are driving him crazy. He likes to speak in public about incoming doom and stuff like that. Feel free to look up here more about Jeremiah

Hey! I'm getting back into PbP after a long (long) break, and I'd love to be considered for your campaign! Full disclosure: I have read through most of Carrion Crown before, but I've forgotten basically all of it. My brain's only got so much holding space, and weird song references pushed it out. ;)

Is it all the same build rules as the initial recruitment posts, or is there anything you've changed your mind on as the new GM? EDIT: Since it didn't exist at the time of the original post, thoughts on Occult classes? They seem quite appropriate for this campaign, and I've wanted to play around with them for a while now.
