BackStory:
basic idea of backstory.
Caracotl grew up in a grippli village in The Mushfens. As far as his childhood he spent his time fishing and working to feed the village as was expected of him. When he reached adulthood(12years) he was expected to pass down the knowledge and skills that he had learned to a new set of froglings. Always a bit more of a free spirit than he fellow villagers he often ranged far from the village to fish. There were several fishing hole he knew every inch of farther out than any grippli from his village had ever gone. He didn’t know why, but the journey there and back always felt special. Like traveling was what he was meant to do. In this vein he hoped to instill this idea and feeling of wonder at the open road in the new army of froglings. The first few of these trips went fine, no interruptions, injuries, or tears. The final trip, however was much different. On the journey there 3 froglings fell from a tree branch they were eating lunch on and were injured. The three were uninjured enough that they could make it back to the village alone. Continuing on with the remaining froglings, their luck didn’t get much better. The weather turned on the group. An frigid rainstorm came off the ocean and battered them. It was decided that the group should turn back, and that’s when they stumbled into an ancient graveyard. It seems the state of disrepair, the lack of attention, and for all Caracotl knows evil magic had caused the once humans to rise again.None of the remaining froglings survived. How Caracotl survived he was not sure. All that he remembers is fighting trying to save the young ones, but failing. When the last one died he turned and ran. At several moments he was sure that he would be caught as well, but he kept getting lucky, the zombie tripped, there was a tight section of trees the zombies could not get through. Throughout his flight events like these happened. Eventually he returned to the village alone. For losing almost an entire group of froglings Caracotl was banished from the village. At first he was distraught, but eventually as he traveled away from his shame and the Mushfens the familiar feeling of joy returned. Eventually(almost a year later) he made it to the border of Utslava there he met a curious man named Professor Lorrimor the two traveled together for some time. After describing his life and the feeling of joy he got from traveling the Professor told Caracotl of Desna. In fact the professor did more than that. He taught the grippli everything he knew about the priesthood and on top of that eventually made sure that Caracotl was put together with a true priest of Desna for an apprenticeship. Luck, travel, chaos, good and the duality, or reverse of these domains made perfect sense to Caracotl and the young grippli devoted himself to this goddess. He was glad he could find a way to help people, he had tried fighting once. It did not work out. Now he had the power to help the sick, the needed, fighters, anyone he wished. Upon their part the Professor knelt down to the Caracotl’s level like an adult does with a child, and told him ”For all this help I have given you. I will expect compensation, a return, an act, or five in kind."
It turns out that Caracotl was too late, as a wandering cleric of Desna the message of the Professor's passing did not reach the young grippli until the man was in the ground. In his travels he has acquired some experience, but still knows that the front line is not for him. Caracotl knows that even if the professor is in the ground that the threat/bargain made still stands. He is ready for whatever plots the professor may have made prior to his death. Character/personality/goals:
Caracotl does not have many true wants in his life. Among the few are to learn as much as possible about undead so they can never catch him off guard again. Another is to atone for the death of the froglings by helping others. He will speak openly about the event as it is what eventually lead him to his goddess, but still feels shame about the event.
Personality: In these foreign lands The young cleric tries to avoid making too much of an impact the societies around him are already suspicious of outsiders, even more humanoid ones. Then there are boggards which he is sometimes mistaken for. He is quiet at first, but will offer his aide and wisdom to any that will take the time to know him. If others speak of home a small sadness may be seen in him. He does not wish to return home, he knows his place is the road. But some aspects of home such as having a brood of froglings of his own and a continual place of relaxation are not in his future and these things he misses. |
