Aye, PF1 is likely off the list purely from overfamiliarity and bloat.

5E is still relatively new to me - not played it that much (or as much as I'd like). There's a bunch of conversation stuff for the campaign I'm looking at in 5E and also some options to grim it up.

OSR systems - Looked at Swords & Wizardry, Blood & Coin and mulling Shadowdark

No problem at all so long as you keep up with the gameplay . I get antsy to see what will happen.

On that note, given y'all's complaint about having to be Big Dumb Heroes lately, I thought I'd offer a potential heist adventure. Given that discretion is not something you all seem particularly interested in. General mayhem instead is always an option.

Not hijacking... but I'll probably wait till pathfinder 2.5 comes out in December before starting up. Gives me time to pick out an adventure and digest it. Might start up one of their one-shots sometime in the next few months to start getting a feel for the system though.


Feel free to chat about whatever in this space. Doesn't have to be game related.

But I will say that I totally enjoyed the recent D&D: Honor among Thieves film. I'm not sure why it didn't do better. It was really well written, the actors seemed to be having fun, and I thought it truly captured the spirit of the game.

Welcome back, Jim! I don't think that you've missed much :/

Soo I'm torn here. I feel like this is really dragging on and I'd like to resolve it and get everyone involved again. I guess I should have come up with something else for Corliss and Dingus to do in the mean time, but I didn't expect Kaul and Jim to try and take on a major crime organization by their lonesome. I was hoping for more Yojimbo than Rambo. But since C&D ambled in fashionably late, I feel like Kaul's rampage needs to be resolved first.

Let's say Kaul will be nauseated for another 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 rounds. Seeing as he can't do anything but stagger around really in that state, should I just play them out and if he's still standing, go from there?

I'd like to take the temperature too- do you think the game is getting too railroady or heavy-handed? I know everyone has limited free time so I want to keep things enjoyable.

I'll admit Corliss is kinda walking on eggshells right now. Part of it's metagamey (from reading what happened) and part is in-character (Corliss thinks Jim is the only non-nutter in the crew and wouldn't do what he's accused of, but, then again, Kaul is Kaul). :)

I'm good with whatever you decide, Cap'n. If that means my PC takes a backseat for a week or so while you handle Kaul's rampage, I can manage. (It might even be more entertaining: Corliss likes to think he's a civilized fellow but in truth lives vicariously through a lot of Kaul's more thuggish actions.)

I'm fine with the way things are going. Kaul tends to be Dingus's partner in chaos... so his reactions are what he would expect the lovable lug to do. He is concerned that Kaul in particular might be digging himself a deeper hole, but understands that he might do the same, just in a different manner.

A spacial split of the party is tough enough, but asynchronous gets even tougher. Jim and Kaul gave it a good run, but we can finally sync everything up and get everyone back in.

Still learning PF2. Been running it at a tabletop game and so far everyone is digging it. It's a bit crunchy, but very logical so it's easier to grasp. As long as the players don't depend on the GM to know all their nuisances it works pretty well.

I know I mentioned "Blood Lords" but the following is really giving me the motivation to run a game. Again, I'll probably wait till the release of the revised Pathfinder 2, but this looks like something fun.

So I've hauled out my old AD&D campaign of choice - Night Below, in prelude for another tilt.

I'm still mulling over the system to run it in... an old school reskinning of 5E is likely the winner - but as to the (re)version I'm not 100% yet. Am open to any suggestions from shipmates well travelled upon the seas of systems :)

Taking a cue from our illustrious Skipper am delving into old issues of Dungeon for side quests and adventures to crowbar in. Created a bunch of more interesting hooks for the original adventure as much for my own nefarious interest as much as tightening up the source content.

Will defo be a PBP over the 3 parts and with bonus material :)


Don't think ive ever run a dwarf outside of a one-shot so undergroundy stuff sounds interesting. Though a boney bard still appeals.

So anything else in the game thread or press on?

BTW I'm traveling the first week of July and since I left my computer at security check last time, I'm leaving it at home this time. O.o

So not much from me the first week or so of July.

Hadn't heard of Night Below. Sounds interesting. How would you time the light sources on a PBP?

Yeah its a monstrous campaign (if you let it run away from you). I played it in RL couple of times - has sandbox flavour and I've fleshed out the surface dramatics and regional storylines/intrigues quite a bit for the Shadowdark version.

Timing light sources will be a key mechanic... currently leaning toward every 4 (or possibly 5) Crawling Rounds will effectively be 15 mins of a Light Source consumed.

Will keep a visual track in gameplay thread by some means also...


Anything else or should I move along to the next morning?

Me too. I guess I'm being a bit dense... but I'm not sure what we're supposed to do next. Am I supposed to just show up the next day for more chores, or do we have a plot to follow that involves everyone? Just trying to figure out where we go from here. Guess I need to be railroaded a bit. :-)

Sorry am here too - was pushing on with Kaul seeking out Croat but am also mindful (as Scran suggests) that we're dispersing and potentially forcing you to herd these mad cats Skipper.


Yeah, it does seem a little less sandboxy helps keep things moving. Still, I'm happy to throw out a few sand castles for you all to push over.

Kaul- feel free to follow your thuggish bliss.
Dingus, Jim, Corliss- Feel free to plot amongst yerselves while Kaul is doing Kauly things.

TO RECAP-

In return for freeing the two crew members that were caught cheating at the Gold Goblin and and returning the gear being held for the damage Kaul and Jim caused, the Lixies made most of you all sign an agreement that you'd steal a valuable elixir from Zincher. It's to be smuggled into Riddleport in a few days and you all are supposed to infiltrate Zincher's operation to figure out where and how and get it if you can.

Just so we're not waiting for each bit to play out, do you all think that we can run the next day concurrently; figuring Jim deals with the mercenary angle on his own and Dingus and Corliss take on the crafters.

I believe Kaul is taking an alternative tack so I think we have everything covered to proceed.

Jim- I'm guessing that was deceptive strike. I looked a bit harder at the generic swordlord NPC I pulled from a random site and the math wasn't adding up. Among other things that didn't jibe, they missed a +2 to initiative. Sveteski would have beat your initiative, bedazzled you and your disarm would have been at -2 and miss anyway. How about we call it a wash and move on? I'll reduce your shaken condition to one round, but you notice that your opponent has taken a more cautious two-handed grip on his blade now.

Also, remember what you overheard last night from the mercs...

It's an Organized Play online event, the equivalent of a gaming convention. In addition to the usual PFS/SFS scenarios, there are also three specials--multitable games, where the success or failure of one party can affect how others do. This is my first time running a specials table, but I've played in a few over the past several years.


I hear COVID is making the rounds again. Feel better, Kaul.

Jim- Sounds fun. I played a special at a convention many years back. PFS Year of the Demon maybe. pretty cool. have fun!
