Apologies Skipper - up to my eyes and postmonster has been snaffling my intentions...
Will get this one done and dusted (have visions that Ol' Kauly will become a big chew toy...)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Apologies for holding things up skipper - heaps in me porridge bowl at the mo...
Cheers for chivvying me :)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Was thinking the same thing :) Given how we normally find ourselves neck deep in it, perhaps we should break out the breathing straws?

Dibbets |

Meta wise I'm suspecting that the Grackle is working for the Siren, and was charged with recovering the mask... but Dibbs hasn't the nous to figure that out in game.
He's also just feeling a bit put down that we've never had a fair shake of the lamb's tail with respect to any of our gambits. Every time we've tried to be smart, the tables have turned on us and buggered us over. He's just decided just to sit back and take it, better to smile with incredibly low expectations than expect something slightly higher and be disappointed.
'Sides - as long as he's drunk while he's riding the Humiliation Conga Line it all works out ok in the end like.

Cap'n Voodoo |

well, what's a pirate story without skullduggery? but if you think I'm being overly unfair I can ease off a bit.
I can say that Dibbets sensed some honest trepidation from the Grackle about crossing the Siren. Seeing as y'all put the squeeze on the bird pretty hard initially and screwed up his deal, he doesn't mind grabbing and running. opportunist pure and simple.

Cap'n Voodoo |

to answer Jim's question better, there are two separate items: a chest and the black stone sculpture. Before the mist moved in, the statues were holding the black stone. Now it is sinking into the sand as the waves wash over it and a chest has been left between the statues. It looks like you interrupted the exchange.

Dibbets |

No need to back off Cap'n - as you say it's traditional :P
I know that we kind of epic fail in the planning department half the time as well. Dibbs is just joneseying for his gun. I've been carrying the EWP (Musket) for a couple of levels for no real purpose to date :P
To be fair on recollection we can go back to the Cyclope who said Bring us the Black Rock Heart and we will answer your questions - and get a bit of a steer in the right direction?

Cap'n Voodoo |

To be fair on recollection we can go back to the Cyclope who said Bring us the Black Rock Heart and we will answer your questions - and get a bit of a steer in the right direction?
of course! is there a right direction? I missed that part...
seriously, i don't have a master plan. I'm making this shet up as we go along. I've got a couple adventures I'd like to run if it works out, but whatever y'all are game for is cool with me.
you could just say screw Plumetown, let's go home. I prolly wouldn't recommend just leaving that blackstone laying around though. Bad things tend to happen... but who said you had to fix everything?
your call ; )

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

No, I missed that completely. It was a creepy piece of work, wherever you got it from.
What I'm thinking is that the Grackle is waiting out there for us to run afoul of the statues, then he'll come back and take out whoever's left standing and get the chest, the sculpture, and the rest of the loot.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Cap'n - don't reckon yer being to hard on us at all - I love the fact that most of the crews enterprises go totally pear shaped :) Its like slapstick comedy with cutlasses lol.
Corpse raft was plain nasty - right up there with the skinbag and stumpy for creepiness...
Aye Grackle's the carrion kind - will pick over the bones and nad the shineys (tis in his nature). After Kauly's latest humilating run of luck (bested by the House of Inch & browning his breeches at Motley) methinks he'll be glad to see the back of the wee basterd...
Right - time for our Kaul to orc up and do some remodelling of the statues...

the Groom |

Didja catch that the carrion golem raft was an homage to Meowzebub's tale of the raft of dead guys?
Did I ever tell the tale of diamond puppies, that are cute and adorable, and they run up and give little kisses and when they do, diamonds appear? Try to work that into the story next.
<mumble> I got watch what I say around this guy....

I went back and looked for the corpse raft post, right before we got to Sentinel Island, and Dingus' comment about the raft ride--
"I'm ready to get off this piece of trash raft as well". "Maybe they'll have areal ship on this island". "Plus I've heard every shanty and bad joke you guys have so many times my head is about to explode". Dingus then picks up a paddle, and actually attempts to speed their progress.
--got me thinking about what Day Three must have been like:
Jim: I spy with my little eye something that begins with "o."
Dibbets: Um, ocean?
Jim: (dispirited) Aye.
Dibbets: I spy wiv my little eye somethin' that begins wiv..."m."
The Groom: More ocean?
(Cut to Dingus, doing his best impression of this.)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Meanwhile Kaul is entertaining himself with this

Cap'n Voodoo |

On the aid spell, duration should be 4 minutes. Figuring we've already seen near a minute and a half of combat and a couple minutes spent looting corpses and staring down statues, I'm going to say expired. The statues aren't evil so prot. from evil is moot.
Also, I'm going to say that flank is already aiding another so I don't know if there is an official ruling, but I'd say that the bonuses don't stack.
So it sounds like Kaul should have a +7 (BAB and Str) +2 flank and +2 from Jim's aid. That's still enough at +11 to hit AC 14 in round 4 so i'll include that damage.

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

Don't mind us; we'll just be catching our breaths here after the fight. Have a good holiday, mates! And thank you, Cap'n, for a memorable and enjoyable voyage thus far.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Hearty agreement by me Jimmer. Great holiday to one and all, and a special thanks to the Ca'n for guiding this crew of miscreants this far! Here's to more high jinx on the high seas in 2013 :)

Dibbets |

Semi-Hiatus is right fine by meself as I'll be off to Aus next week on the 21st Dec through to the 10th of Jan. Posting will continue while I'm there on a sporadic and unreliable nature... just like Dibbs :P
And aye - another year under the belt and onwards to Freeport with wind in our sails!

That would be nice. Seems like there should be some warm sand involved.
And at least at this rate we get a couple weeks (of our time) to hold onto our ill-gotten gains before our next f*@kup sends us back to being paupers.
Happy Holiday All!

In roughly twelve hours I will willingly subject myself to an eight hour period of physical exertion, sleep deprivation and general sanity slippage.... that is to say I'm flying down to Australia with two kids on a red eye. I shall be doing the christmas thing, familial visitation thing and even attending a ten year University re-union... which should be interesting to say the least.
That will mean that I shall not be my usual self when it comes to internet connectivity and PbP response. I should still get online here and there, but it's unlikely to be every day - and even when I do time will be short so you will have to endure a lesser amount of my usual sesquipedalian loquaciousness. If at any time you feel I'm holding things up, feel free to DMPC... or you know have Dibbets get drunk, pass out then piss himself quietly in a corner.
I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Krazy Kwanzaa or even Positive Emotion Non-Religious Holiday Vacation Day... depending upon your own predisposed proclivities. I look forward to further electronically shared adventures in the post-Mayan calendar New Year.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Am thinking we bury the coin and shift the sculpture lads - perhaps leave Tum as a marker/guardian? (iffen he's at all complient o' course lol)

the Groom |

I posted Groom's gloomy thoughts. 10,000 sails is a lot....enough to buy quick passage off this rock I would think. We need to deliver the Heart, but not have everyone know it is us ...delivering a big black squid heart statue....and then get the Hells out of here.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Threadjack Alert!
As an aside (and since I'm clearly a glutton for punishment) I'm looking to run a Kingmaker game in the near future.
Long story short, did a shed load of prep for my (now defunct) RL group and never ran the game. Mixed in elements of Old Margreve and Karameikos (from Old School D&D)
Drayen is already on board with a Human Fighter (Aldori Swordlord), and I've offered a slot to a fellow submittee, Thanos Maximo, from another game that really impressed me (Elf Diviner).
Planning on 4-5 players (max) so wanted to sound out any of the old faithfuls... Not planning on an open recruitment as I've just not the time to sift through the entrants.
If anyone knows any players from other games they want to shove my way then please let them know.
Kaul aka DM Black Dow out (cheers Skipper)
PS - Happy New Year Mates! :)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Nah doesn't matter too much - especially given the sandbox nature of Book 1 (and given I'll be shaking things up a little from the get-go)...
What character did you play Scranford?

Dingus Mack |

I played Janku Toliver, who started out as a Cleric of Gorum, but had a crisis of faith, and became a worshiper of Melani. He was either my first of second PbP character. I'll have to give some thought to what to play if I did it again...so many cool options.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Cleric/Follower of Melani is pretty cool. Have a think - nothings set in stone as yet...
Will fire up a placeholder Campaign so to avoid unnecessary post clutter on the good Cap'n's decks :)
Invite extends to you too Skipper!

Cap'n Voodoo |

Thanks for the invite, Black Dow. Good idea throwing in some Margreve. I ran the first book and found it needed a bit more development. I'm gonna have to pass as I'm pretty familiar with this one and fully busy coming up with new ways to torment players in three campaigns.
I think only Carrion Crown would lure me into another game at least until Jade Regent finishes. We're about halfway through. I'm on a slow boat in S&S so that one may be going for a while :/

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

No probs Cap'n, agree the first book does need a little more something.
Am planning to amp up the slavic and fey elements of the campaign. Might even throw in some easter eggs relating to my Iobarian Saga too :)
Dibbs - figured as much lol, didn't want to presume given your already hefty dance card, impending Reign of Winter AP and new bubs...
However if your game... there's always room at my table mate :)

Like the Cap'n, I've been running the first part of KM, so I'll also beg off. I've been playing up the fey elements as well, trying to emphasize what an odd place the Stolen Lands are.

Dibbets |

Apologies for the absenteeism, holiday evenings are basically consisting of me welded to the couch with an eight month old on my chest and I've not been able to wrangle posting time until late at night (generally past midnight). Normal service will resume in three-ish days once I'm back at home base.
